BERLIN - A sculpture depicting a mosque with missiles as minarets was pulled from a German art show Monday after threats were made, the director of Duesseldorf's art academy confirmed.Titled "Aggression", the work by a Swiss art student was removed from the show at the request of the artist, said academy director Peter Lynen.
Lynen said there had been no pressure from the academy itself to pull the work and that every artist had to be given the freedom to address what he termed "contemporary themes".
The design of the mosque with rockets as its minarets was very "low-key", said Lynen.
He did not say what kinds of threats had led to removal of the sculpture.

What's the big deal, Sadam has done it already. Perhaps the "art work" should be booted out because it's a copy:

If I were an artist, I would be inclined to use phalluses rather than missiles for the minarets. This usage would symbolize Islamic misogyny, the use of rapine as weapon to subjugate non-Muslims, and the use of demographic warfare to spread the faith.
He should have titled his work "Finsbury Park" instead of "Agression." To bad this happened in Germany, under US law he would then have had an excellent case under the first amemendment denying the right to express artistically documented fact. It could not be claimed as an overgeneralization or stereotype, since he specifically identified a particular mosque as the focus of his critique.
Cowardice in this war will only get you killed.

The work in question, and now obvously so out of the question, merely wittily reified, put into physical form, and thereby made literal the figurative meaning of minarets suggested by so many Muslims themselves. It was Saddam Hussein who noted the similarity of minarets at the Mother of All Mosques mosque he was building, en train de batir, and he was not alone. It was Erdogan, the present Prime Minster of Turkey, who famously said (changing the weapon but not the martial imagery), that "the minarets are our bayonets, the domes our helmets, the mosques our barracks" ("Les minarets sont nos baionnettes, les coupoles nos casques et les mosquees nos casernes" -- the telling quotation with which Anne-Marie Delcambre chose to end her "L'Islam des interdits"). Erdogan, Hussein, and so many others are allowed to point this out. Why not a poor art student, simply preparing his truth-alluding project?
Could the exact words of those gently pressuring pressurers be made known to the wider Infidel public by the art student so pressured? That way, the next time any artwork, or work described as "art" is about to go on display at any museum or gallery, and that work offends people other than Muslims, for example Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, or that group that may overlap one or more of the aforementioned, people of taste, they will know the precise verbal formula that apparently managed to do the trick here.
The Reverend Bowdler, Mrs. Grundy, even the compilers of the Index librorum prohibitorum, not to mention the security services of the Western world trying to keep The New Duranty Times and its fellows from spilling state secrets in order not to put Infidel lives in danger, could learn a thing or two from these "gentle pressurers." Pressure-cookers indeed, and cooking with gas. Oil, and gas.
Let's see ... Islam dictates what you can print in the newspapers, defines what you can call art, and what holidays you can celebrate.

The first time I visited Germany in the early 1980s I came across an "art show" in West Berlin... This was just as Reagan proposed forward deploy deploying Pershing Missiles in Turkey, and perhaps Germany to counter recent Soviet transgressions... Now keep in mind, this was in the still partitioned Berlin -- the one which featured a wall -- not to keep the West Berliners out of East Berlin, but put up by the East Berliners and their Soviet masters to keep the East Berliners in... (so much, by the way, for any comparison between the Berlin wall and the wall in Israel or the proposed wall along the southern border of the USA...) Anyway... this "art show", in the city which America nearly single handedly saved from complete Russian usurpation, featured items such as a giant plastic toothbrush sculpture where the bristles were all nuclear missiles and the toothpaste was an extruded blood drenched American flag in the shape of a toothpaste dollop -- There was a "portrait" in sallow yellows and lurid greens of a cadaverous US President Reagan -- his skin consisting of maggots and various other corruptions... There was an etching of American bible belters slaughtering and beheading frightened helpless Russians with their crucifix handled scimitars... I was dumbfounded at the content, and the vitriolic hatred embodied in this "art work". There were endless other hateful anti-American items, which I have largely forgotten, but these stuck out.
How brave, then, the Germans! How glorious to see them so fiercely and fearlessly voicing their animus towards America! How inspiring to see them repudiate their evil arch enemy! The one which salvaged their cesspool nation from one of the worst atrocities ever committed in human history! It was so impressive to see the German sophisticates confronting the heinous nation of American who was so brutally, thoughtlessly, and wickedly holding the rest of the hapless world hostage under her terroristic iron fist -- The German artists were venting their spleens, their rage, and their hatred at a vicious and tyranical America, one filled with religious fanatics rampaging, pillaging, murdering and calling for murder!
Those were halcyon days in Europe, my friends! They are quite amazing when they know you won't hit back...!
Now fast forward 32 or 33 years... We no longer find artists in Germany willing to stand vicously and steadfastly confront fascism as they perceive it... Despite my opinion that their hate filled propaganda of 3 decades ago was insulting, wrong, and altogether misguided, it would appear in these two cases that some Europeans only express themselves rudely and brazenly when they have no fear of retaliation -- If it's against America and Americans -- ANYTHING goes! But pertaining to those Muslims? Softly! Softly! We don't want to get anyone riled up now, do we?
Hypocrites! Liars! Cowards! Craven fantasists! The Muslims smell European blood and European fear -- Muslims are expert carrion feeders, and opportunistic hunters...

It is a peculiar aspect of US Political Correctness that says "You can't talk about my people that way, only I can talk about my people that way."

So, to me, it feels familiar that the Muslims would be OK with other Muslims making missles out of minarets but they would be upset if others did.

Threats? I'm sure that the artist received reasonable advice regarding his representation of Islam and his lack of sensitivity for their plight to be understood and accepted. It's representations like this that gives Islame a bad name. Why not direct his talents towards something more relevant like the Pi$$ Christ and leave this oppressive, fascist and aggressive religion of peace alone.
