Muslim Boycotts of Danish Products Costly

All right, you shirkers. Enough about your cholesterol. Why aren't you having a bit of havarti on a cracker, or a nice warm roll with Lurpak butter?
Buy some today. If nothing else, you can donate it to the local homeless shelter.
From AP

Consumer boycotts of Danish goods in Muslim countries in protest of the publication of caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad are costing Denmark's companies millions, and have raised fears of irreparable damage to trade ties.
From Havarti cheese to Lego toys, Danish products have been yanked off the shelves of stores in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and other countries around the Middle East as Muslims await an apology for the cartoons, which the Copenhagen government has said it cannot give. The boycotts have also spawned counter-boycott campaigns to "Buy Danish."

I bought my Arla Foods Havarti at Costco.
It is quite good melted on toast with a cup of tea.

Does anyone Know if the banning of danish goods by the mammoth French supermarket chain CARREFOUR is worldwide or only in Muslim countries?
We need a list of western collaborators to decide on out own boycott.

To my knowledge, the decision to remove danish products from Carrefour stores was made locally in the various mid-east countries they are represented in. I think its run like a sort of franchise operation where local business partners actually run the stores, and it was those that pulled the danish products.

At least that was the original story, and I havent seen any updates that indicates they have removed danish products in the EU countries as well.

I know Denmark is one of the markets that Carrefour was looking to expand to, but after this all I can say is: Good luck getting danish people to shop in your stores!

You cannot depend on unstable people in the Islamic world for business partners or consumers.

Let them make their own buttercookies.

No trade with traitors.

Folks, slightly OT, but a University of Toronto student paper has published a cartoon which is supposedly Mohammad and Jesus in a Tunnel of Love hugging each other. Check it out here
http://www.thestrand.ca/news/2006/02/16/Editorial/

Also OT, that Italian politician who wore the Mohammad cartoon T-shirt has now resigned http://edition.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/africa/02/18/cartoon.roundup/

I have been buying Havart and danish feta cheese. A good beer is tuborg which was one of my favorited before this. It is danish. And if you need anything for home shop at Jysk's it is a danish store.

Neither my local Giant or Safeway carries Danish canned ham (the best there is, even when not camping). Or Tuborg beer.

Any ideas?

Canadian Muslim shop owners Association call for the boycot of all Danish products in Canada, and as a result, all Muslims shops do not sell Danish products. They proudly display a board in front of their shops"We do not sell any Products made in Denmark". So We( My family,my friends and my relatives do not care to buy anything from these shops,,and we also decided to boycot all Muslim businesses. We tell all our friends, their relatives, office colegues, and our sons and daughters friends in schools and collerges.
Majority of Muslims thrive on business only in the West, and mint dolloers in millions..If all of us jointly boycot their business, they will automatically pack their bags back to the caves in the desert land.

I can't find Lurpak butter at my local Woolworths. Neither can I find the butter cookies. I can only find Rosenberg Camembert, which is what I am buying.

Arla foods has completely caved to the muslims... They're willing to do anything, including blowing off religious leaders, in order to have muslims buy their products again... Fucking sellouts!

If you trade with Muslims and you are a non Muslim - well you have to expect to get screwed once in a while.

All this belly-aching about lost millions is like the Australian example of Aussie farmers getting screwed over by Muslims.

First it was the Saudi's with the live exports (which is cruel anyway - and no I am not an environmentalist - I love fishing and really want to experience hunting - but our stupid gun laws make it difficult), and then this current Australian Wheat Board debarcle with the Iraqi's now refusing to buy our wheat (probably with a little pressure from USA wheat farmers)

In the end, yes the ordinary man gets hurt. But that's the price you pay for dealing with Muslims. Better to be hurt this way, and heed the wake up call, than to become a permanent Dhimmi.

The better solution would be to stop ALL trade from the West towards Muslim nations and boycott any Western nation that continues to trade with them - especially stop FOOD trade with ALL Muslim nations. It would help the demographic situation somewhat, and put a hole the the culture war they are waging in our own back yard (you can't eat oil. It's about time we showed them that food is more important than oil). I bet they would drop the price of oil ASAP once the hunger pains kicked in and they discover that Allah provides didly squat!

If you can't find Tuborg in your local bottleshop you may find that Carlsberf beer is easier to obtain. I think that Carlsberg is carried in more bottleshops as it is the dominant brand. They are both made by the same company and Carlsberg is also a very nice lager without a bitter aftertaste. Its the best beer I have tasted.

If you live in Australia you may find Arla's Harvati cheese may be obtainable at you larger local Coles store. Don't know about the butter. I don't eat a lot of cheeses but I have found that Harvarti is my favourite. It's true that Arla has caved in somewhat to the frothing loony muslim brigade however buying anything danish has got to help.

oh yeah one other thing watch out for halal meat a lot of hot dogs or lamb chops in Canadian supermarkets are halal. Let your supermarket know these products are offensive. Or just leave a piece of pork over top of them. Let the muslims then complain to the store.

Stopped in at my local World Market earlier this week and encouraged them to stock more Danish stuff in response to the boycott of Danish goods in the Middle East. All I could find was the Tuborg beer. It's a big store; they can do better.

The lone Arla product at my local Albertsons seems to be the Dofino havarti; no luck at all at Kroger or WalMart (bastion of gourmet foods that the latter is). Now, I do love the havarti, but if they stocked some other stuff, I'd buy that too.

Can you believe I'm having trouble finding Carlsberg beer in New York City?? Arla products, no problem.

Also, a major pharmacy chain here used to always have the Danish butter cookies around; no sign of them now.

Very irritating, but I'll keep looking for both.

Pissedoffcanadian says:"..or just leave a piece of pork over top of them"
Those days are slowly diaappearing brother!.. The second generation Muslims have got the taste of pork and beer,-you can see them in dark corners of bars, dance floors, and night clubs. You ask any student, they will tell you the facts. They lead a double life, anddue to their immigrant parent's compulsion, they go to namaz on fridays.(that is also dwindling day by day).

rafia good point a lot of muslims eat pork and drink. In fact when it comes to alcohol and wild behaviour they are amongst the worst in society. But these people are not moderates. I have seen it time and again the same guys who dont think about religion when they are younger, trick western girls into marrying them. And when they get older they almost always revert to there default psycho state. My brother told me years ago the reason their religion is so strict is because without it they are animals. I think he is right. Seeing how they behave when they leave their countries and when they are exposed to "western decadence" they go crazy like girls in a girls gone wild video.

I think you're onto something there, PissedoffCanadian (tell me that isn't fun to say!).

If you never treat someone like an adult, their development will remain stunted. So, why is political Islam incompatible with democracy? Because self-government begins with governing one's self.

And governing one's self requires a sense of self-control, a sense of self in the first place, and an ability to think for one's self as something more than part of a collective-- a mob, actually-- acting on mullahs' orders to run amok after Friday prayers. The protestors' own explanations don't begin with "I believe," or "I think," but rather, "Islam says..."

Tangent time! (To the tune of "Twilight Time.") Then, the motivation to "behave" is from the outside: threats, rewards, and approval, but mostly threats. The first two are the most primitive and animalistic-- think of obedience school for dogs, for example. So, in the absence of external incentives and punishments, pious habits fade, and immorality turns on like a switch.

And its a problem that keeps compounding itself: As self-restraint falls by the wayside (e.g., thinking an unveiled woman is a target for "justifiable" rape), external restrictions become more severe (e.g., purdah), and society becomes more like a kindergarten, only more stridently savage, and without juice, cookies, and naptime.

Load up on Havarti cheese and Tuborg beer. They taste great.

Also, boycott anything French. Wanna know why? Go to www.fuckfrance.com.

Shinoliite-

And don't forget that doing anything 5 times a day, other than breathing and kissing, leads to robotic behavior.

And the 1825 instances of "prayer" in Islam every year (365 days times 5 sessions a day) is a cunning form of self-hypnosis and post-hypnotic suggestion / reinforcement. Burning the dogmas into the neurological system through unquestioned repetition. Short-circuiting the conscious mind.

A suicide belt would almost be a relief to break out of this Islamic zombie-ism.

It's no wonder they are so happy to die.

Islam sucks so much.

shinoliite good post. You are right their lack of individualism is the main reason for their mob mentality.

If one could figure out how to convert havarti, lurpak, tuborg and other such Danish products into automotive fuel, we'll be well on our way. Get rid of our addiction to Islamic petroleum, and let the Danes prosper as a result of such an innovation. Come to think of it, even other dairy producing countries could benefit too.

None of which are Islamic.

Or even better if we can convince all the liberal bleeding hearts that nuking every muslim city with over a million people is just another form of post birth abortion of right wing homophobic lunatics. Maybe are governments would find a lasting solution to world peace.

You may have meant this as a joke, but there is some truth to it. Unfortunatly the west has choosen to spend our money in the wrong places. Invading Iraq has cost countless billions in order to secure oil supplies, when those billions could instead have been spent on research into other forms of sustainable energy.

Do you have any idea what a difference it would make if the US spent 80 billion $ on research into non-fossil fuels? Here in Denmark, those things are a fairly big thing and we achieve pretty impressive results by spending less than 1% of that amount on the research. For example, we are the worlds leading country when it comes to development and manufacture of wind-mills for power generation.

There are so many alternatives out there that could be developed if only they got funded with a fraction of the money that is spent on searching for new oil deposits. And unlike the oil, these options will never run out once discovered.

IN Austria, they use cooking oil from restaurants to fuel buses. It's amazing, but it's true. I saw it on BBC.

Excellent post, Shinolite. It is EXACTLY my individual liberty (the ability to govern my own life) that I fear losing under Islam.

Infidel Pride - true! Don't it break your heart? A half trillion dollars will go down the toilet of Iraq and the world prestige of the U.S. and its allies will depend entirely on whether some Sunnis and Shiites can pretend to get along. A half trillion dollar 'Manhattan Project' to replace oil. What a dream! Our leaders have brains the size of walnuts.

I know a guy in the Ozarks who fuels his car with used McDonald's cooking oil - it works great but his exhaust smells like french fries!

I read somewhere that without oil or opium the entire total of exports of the Moslem world would be somewhat less than Spain!

I think you misunderstand something. ARLA is a commercial operation, not a political party or a government, so seen from their perspective "the customer is always right" and they will do whatever they can to regain their marketshare in the Middle East, apologizing, explaining, bowing and scraping ect. They have NEVER been interested in human rights or democracy, otherwise they wouldn't have been doing business there for 40 years.

They are not surrendering because they have never been fighting Islam in the first place. I hate to say it but thats the way things are...

I'm considering taking about 200 squares of 1 lb. Lurpak and doing a life-sized sculpture of Mohammad in butter. (Like the kind you see of cows at country fairs.)

Does Lurpak make a camel butter?

(I would guess the statue would stand about 5' 6 1/2" tall, judging from the average examples of male skeletons from 7th century graves.)

Any artsy venues anyone knows of that would welcome it?

I'll contact the MOMA in NYC and put out a feeler.

(I know the idea of using bacon strips for his henna-dyed beard is tempting, but I'm a purist, so it would be butter, and butter alone, from curly crown to calloused toes.)

Plus, the audience could eat the statue at the end of the exhibition to dispense with any ideas of possible idolatry, therefore how could Muslims obect?

BYOB. (Bring Your Own Bread.)

Sorry ExpatriateDK but the potential for wind generation is over blown. Denmark is able to have a large generating capacity of windmills because it is a little country hooked up to a very big grid next to it. Germany's grid is mainly powered by coal. There is clean coal and there is enough coal for hundreds if not thousands of years. Wind will always be a fringe player. Spending money on this wont solve a damn thing.
