NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- About two dozen Muslims picketed the offices of the Philadelphia Inquirer Monday after it reprinted a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad.According to a report in the New York Times, the Inquirer, owned by Knight Ridder Inc. (KRI) (KRI), was the first major U.S. newspaper to run the cartoon, which has sparked fury throughout the Muslim world.
The Inquirer reported Tuesday that Executive Editor Amanda Bennett and Deputy Managing Editor Carl Lavin talked with the protesters outside the building.
"Neither I nor the newspaper meant any disrespect to their religion or their prophet," Bennett said in the report on the Inquirer's Web site. "I told them I was actually really proud of them for exercising their right to freedom of speech."
But Bennett stood by the decision to publish the cartoon, saying it "is one of the things newspapers do to communicate directly with people" about issues important to all communities.
According to the report, the Majlis Ash'Shura is calling for a boycott of the Inquirer until it issues a public apology to its Muslim readers. If the newspaper does not, the group says it will be back with more protesters mustered from Friday afternoon prayers, typically the most well-attended service of the week.
This is what I have been waiting for ...an Amrikan newspaper showing the caricture(s).

There can be no peaceful protest by Muslims, as long as they are tainted by their association with Muslims who have, in relation to these cartoons, been violent and/or who have made violent threats.
At this point, any peaceful Muslim protestors are, either unwittingly or wittingly, taking advantage of their more aggressive "shock troops" who are violent and/or who threaten violence. Any peaceful Muslim protest at this point has, whether intentionally or unintentionally, behind it the weight of an implicit violent threat.
Just as Christopher Hitchens wrote in a piece today: once he was involved in a debate on TV with a Muslim about the Salman Rushdie affair:
"I went on Crossfire at one point, to debate some spokesman for outraged faith, and said that we on our side would happily debate the propriety of using holy writ for literary and artistic purposes. But that we would not exchange a word until the person on the other side of the podium had put away his gun."
Of course, the Muslim he was debating was not himself literally holding a gun. But this was the principle upon which Hitchens stood in terms of this debate: as long as that Muslim did not show his absolute distance from the death threat against Rushdie, there was no debate.
Hitchens continued:
"(The menacing Muslim bigmouth on the other side refused to forswear state-sponsored suborning of assassination, and was of course backed up by the Catholic bigot Pat Buchanan.)"
What, they haven't burnt down the Philadelphia Inquirer. Have they gone all squishy?
The only reason they are being "peaceful" in America is because they haven't yet reached the critical mass we see elsewhere in the world...
Rest assured, when Muslims begin numbering in excess of 1% of the US population, we will begin to see the exact same kinds of "demonstrations" of Islamic "peace and tolerance" the rest of the world is treated to now...
The best estimates of the Muslim population in America is around 2.3 - 2.8 million... If we are insane enough to allow this dangerous population to reach 4 or 5 million, we will see violence. HAVE NO DOUBT! I reject the smug self satisfied assessments of various analysts who maintain that the assimilation of Muslims in America is somehow superior to that of Muslims in every other nation which they infest... We would see the same thing here as anywhere else if they were allowed to increase their numbers... We'd see the same hoards of "disaffected youth" shouting "allahuakbar" and rampaging, we'd see the same "protests" (read terrorist rallies) observed in London, Berlin, and Paris and Madrid.
It is better to think of individual Muslims as dangerous and unstable radioactive particles -- akin to atoms of uranium or plutonium. If distributed in sufficiently dilute amounts -- no large scale danger, though they may be the cause of grievous sporadic cancers...
But if concentrated above a certain threshhold -- exactly what that may be -- 2%...? 4%...? 6%....? I'm not sure, but dangerous reactions would begin to occur... In those areas of the world where the density of Muslims approaches 100%, all bets are off -- anything will and does happen regularly -- It is a CERTAINTY -- in such high densities, the toxic reactionary meltdowns will only need ephemeral little things like cartoons and fairytales in Newsweek to set of cascades of nuclear reactions and meltdowns as we're seeing today across the globe in Muslim lands.
I continue to miss something here in all this rage against the cartoons.
I thought that suicide bombers are considered as revered heroes and martyrs in Islam.
If that is so, than why is the image of Mohammed as a suicide bomber considered as a denegration of the prophet Mohammed?
If he is the leader of Islam and the spokeman for all of Islam through the Quran, and the hadiths, than why should he not lead the Islamic people by example?
It seems to me that his example which is demonstrated by the cartoon from Norway should have been viewed as a positive image, and if is not the case than all those suicide bombers who have been acting in the name of Allah have apparently done the wrong thing when it comes to the teachings of Mohammed.

That was a brilliant analysis of the percent of population reaching a "critical mass". You've obviously thought this through very thoroughly. I would be very curious to hear your analysis of the following factors integrated into your theory.
1. During the riots in the 70's people in Philadelphia and New Jersey flocked to stores to buy guns and ammunition to defend their homes and properties. Could this damper their rioting potential?
2. Living in the Philadelphia region, I've noticed that the Italians, Polish, Germans and other groups are "clustered" in neighborhoods and are very close knit. How would this influence the equation? Much of the police force is drawn from these groups.
3. Philadelphians consider themselves living in the cradle of freedom. Do you think that they would let themselves be Dhimmified?

2 things here.
1) Suicide is not allowed in Islam...period.
What is allowed is "Shahada"...i.e. to die for one's faith. This is considered different to committing suicide ..which has nothing to do with faith and is considered cowardice.
Now the end result may be the same...but Shahada is considered holy and to be revered.
The modern "Shahada" was brought back into fashion by a 13 year old Iranian boy soldier during the Iran-Iraq war. He attacked an Iraqi tank with nothing other than a couple of hand grenades.
He ran towards it (grenades primed) and slipped under it whereby the grenades blew and disabled the tank.
In many ways this was a bit of a watershed in the battle...as stories of the "Shadaha" spread, hundreds of young boys wanted to do the same...it was at that time Iran knew it could not lose the war.
A plaque, picture and fountain sprouting red water is in Iran, ...there in his memory...with his parents and sisters looking on in pride. Also accompanying this are pictures of other boys who went the same way.
2) Whether true or not Muhammed (pbuh) is revered as a man of peace and generosity...and this is believed by the whole of the muslim world. The turban bomb cartoon is in ghastly contrast to this...something they don't want to see and cannot begin to understand. Denmark is an enemy of Islam ...for ALL TIME now. I explained on another thread how this image would disturb the muslim from praying and how this could not go unpunished.

Yes, indeed! I may betray a certain perversity in the matter, but I'm mezmerized by this poster's psychological writhings... It/she bounces between a qualified candor about Islam's heinousness, and a jubilant exultation at the prospect of our collective Western demise under the domination of her/its "religion" of hatred and darkness.
It/she is a curious specimen, but then, aren't all the exotic Muslim posters here? She/it and all of them provide fantastic windows into the chimerical, puerile, and tortured Muslim soul...

The 2nd Ammendment is central to America's survival -- and certainly enters into the issue here regarding Islamic Jihad. I think Muslims must be viscerally aware of the counter threat average Americans wield against them in their barbaric Jihad against us -- they are aware of it, but I don't think this changes the basic calculus of my points -- After all, it serves their purposes to have violence, once their Jihad has successfully brought the Muslim population up to a certain number in target "infidel" lands. This appears to be part of the time-honored successful Islamic Jihad strategy.
Once their numbers reach a certain threshold -- through the application of a little terrorism here, a little mob violence there, and a constant application of political pressure and demands, the Muslim finds he can make constant inroads against his "enemies" in the "House of War" he considers "infidel" lands to be... Under such a recipe, it's only a matter of time.
Of course, pushed to it's logical limit -- if the Muslims reach a certain density in America, and begin fomenting for more violent and dangerous methods in their Jihad -- they may be met with sufficient American force of arms to be pared down and defeated.... But then again, perhaps not... In our current condition, with our borders largely unprotected, a larger population of Muslims in America would certainly pose a grave threat... Also, they have proven their willingness to kill and die for their so-called "religion". If their numbers were sufficient here, the fact that we would begin firing back is not guarantee that they would stop their Jihad... I believe at best it would simply become dormant again for a time, until the Muslims thought they could begin again...
Since 9/11, the Muslims have correctly intuited that we law abiding, tolerant, and patient Americans are over a certain barrel regarding increased numbers of Muslims in our midst, and the threat they increasingly will pose. Immigration continues unabated. Infiltration continues unabated. Birthrates among Muslims in America have continued unabated.
They believe they can count on our forebearance, which, to date, has largely been true. Do you think any Muslim in America didn't hold his breath for a time in fear after 9/11? But despite the centrality of Islam in the atrocity, did we rampage and murder them in their thousands? NO! Had any similar cataclysm ocurred in ANY Muslim land -- say a group of Chistians had blown up one of Islam's greatest symbols, even without a wider conspiracy among Christians for the annihilation of Islam as the Muslims have to annihilate Jews and Christians from the world.. do you think that we would, even today have seen the end of the horrific bloodshed and vengeance wreaked on all of those the Muslims could associate, rightly or wrongly, with the deed? They are murdering and rampaging now over some dang cartoons -- what would have happend if a symbol of Islam had been destroyed -- an attack on the Kabaa? Or the destruction of the Dome of the Rock? It would be a gore-fest of gargantuan proportions in every Muslim nation, and wherever Muslims could exact revenge on those they hate... And have no doubt -- they would blam every murder, every torture, every barbarity on all of US -- the hapless infidels...
It is speculation on my part, of course, but I believe a similar atrocity in Muslim lands would result in the deaths MILLIONS of "infidel". Entire enclaves of people would be genocidally exterminated across the Muslim world. The death toll would be in the millions, and may even reach into the 10s of millions...
Anyway -- the fact that Americans own lots of guns probably helps to tamp down the reactionary tendencies among the Muslims in America. And it's probably that American fury at Muslim transgressions such as those we see in Europe and elsewhere might mitigate their rage partially, and impede it from spreading in a similar fashion... But in the long run, we'd only postpone their Jihadi intentions until a later date... They are ultimately willing to die in order to subjugate and annihilate us...
If they are allowed here in sufficient numbers to begin collective violence against us, our guns will probably only be effective if we reduce their numbers down below the threshold I refer to above... Would we kill them on such a massive scale if they numbered 12 or 19 million here? Would we really be willing to kill 6 million Muslims in order to save ourselves from annihilation? I worry very much that many would confuse such a number with another similar number -- and this would only fuel the Jihad. There is no similarity between the aggressive Muslim in the infidel domains, and the assimilated Jew... But the Muslim would exploit every opportunity while waging war against us with one hand, to claim victimhood and oppression with the other... Once claimed, the Muslim will then use this distortion as a pretext to wage more war against us with the first hand -- so on and so on...
This is why their Jihad is a successful tactic. This is why they must not be permitted to grow here, or come here in sufficient numbers to set off the chain reaction of violent Jihad.
Guns and ammo in America against their Jihad == A very good thing.
Fewer Muslims in "infidel lands"? == Priceless.
