Is such an image any more or less blasphemous than--say, having an image of a pig on a box of tissues?

Today's date isn't februari 4 2006, but september 1 1939.
The long-term impact of all this rage depands on how the rage ends - in a physical manner. Of all countries, even Sweden is a bit less dhimmified now. Sure, the majority is still multi-culti believers, but they are less certain now. I've read Swedish blogs, and the leftist bloggers are not their cock-sure selves. Right as well, the small anti-dhimmi minority is now growing. Of this follows that the physical damage done to Danes will dictate the long-term impact. The longer the riots in mid-east continue, the more people get curious of what is all the rage about anyway.
I would not like to sound opportunistic, but so far I can see it appears obvious that this is not going to end in a bloodless manner. I suspect that will be a terror act in Copenhagen. Such an outcome would be a disaster for islamic PR - after all, the cock-sure politically correct media is now weaker than it claims to be. I know people who - after actually seeing these fairly tame pictures - are asking what the hell is the blasphemy in these, and what kind of people can really get pissed of that. The muslims are thumping their chests now - and I'm sure the PC media will declare muslims the winners - but for the muslims this will be a Pyrric victory, at best.

The attacks in the Modesto area were very odd. A Catholic church, a synogogue and a protestant church. Slurs and hate seemed tailored to the place of worship: "Back 2 the ovens" for the synagogue and "666" for the Christians. Likewise in Alabama, black and white churches were hit; it seemed that any Christian church would do.

This is only going to get worse. Chances are that Israel or the US will attack Iran within the coming weeks then all bets are off. We should all prepare ourselves for an increase in terrorism up to and including catastrophic attacks in major western cities which may be accompanied by a disruption of vital services including food, water and electricity. If we really are committed to freedom of speech, it must include even speech with which we disagree. Muslims holding placards calling for jihad are exercising their right to freedom of speech. Of course, we both know what the result would be should a Christian or Jew try the same thing in Riyadh, but if we in the West recognize that freedom of speech is what enures all of the other freedoms which we take for granted, then we have to allow dissenting voices to speak, even when we loathe what they're saying.

What if every religious group held the opinion that their believers do not have to obey the laws of the country they live in? You can't have different laws, rules and regulations for all the different religions practiced in western countries. Chaos would, as we are seeing in Europe, quickly ensue. Social order would unravel. It might be fine to impose sharia on the population of a country that is 100% Islamic but this cannot happen in the western world with its level of pluralism.
What most observers find very offensive is Islam's hypersensitivity to critical debate on the merits of Islam as a religion and way of life in the 21st century. It may have been fine for a wandering band of Bedouins in 700AD but most outside of Islam find the religion / belief system violent, racist and sexist. It is a religious way of life that believes it is superior to all others and as such treats any one outside Islam as inferior.

Someone posted above how the US MSM is ignoring this story. I have found this to be very frustrating. I have watched FOX, CNN, and MSNBC for the last two nights. There was absolutely no mention of this story, zilch. Yet they cover the most assinine stories like the Entwhistle guy who fled to the UK. Who cares?
The good news is that this story is really breaking through in talk radio. I heard both Michael Graham and Jay Severin discuss this story in depth as I drove home last night. Michael Graham called the Boston Globe a bunch of cowards for covering the story on the front page but not showing any of the cartoons in the paper or on the Globe website.
Jay Severin has recently gone national, (I believe with Clear Channel) and he really lit into the Muslins on this issue. If anybody gets a Clear Channel station, I recommend you listen to him, he is quite entertaining.

Call me cynical, but note the "damage" to that desk - minimal doesn't begin to desribe it. My take on this is that it is yet another play for sympathy. This happened in Montreal, after Jewish schools were firebombed- a couple of mosques and Muslim-owned businesses were 'firebombed' as well. No damage, done at a time when no one was inside, widespread sympathy for the poor downtrodden Muslims.

There's a limit to anyone's acceptance of freedom of speech -- generally it stops at the point where the knife touches one's throat, and the messages on those placards urge Muslim fanatics to swing that knife closer and closer to our collective throats. I, for one, say that those messages have crossed the line from freedom of speech to incitement to kill.
I'm disappointed that such hate-filled, explicitly violent messages are allowed in such a great city as London -- more so, in light of the deaths of innocents there last July.

As far as the London demonstrations are concerned, I don't consider it free expression. It is rather incitement to murder and insolent display of those who have already murdered innocent people in July. As if in NY city, some people were demonstrating saying: "There will be another 11 September, be prepared for the real thing".
We let them demonstrate and show their hatred and threats and on the other hand, some of our politicians claim that the Prophet's cartoons are "criminal". The Prophet's cartoons have a political message which is: "look guys, in the name of Islam some crimes are perpetuated". The aim of the caricatures is to make people think, not to kill.
So we are swimming in total contradiction and it is very obvious that FEAR dominates the West, as it dominated Europe in the 30's when people were saying "let us not provoke Hitler". I hear the same on the French radio and TV: "let us not provoke the Muslim world".

Thats not a matter of opinion which they do indeed have a right to express, nor an idle threat, said in the heat of the moment. I read recently that there were about 20,000 Muslims in the San Joaquin Valley. That would be the central part of California. Also, don't forget the San Francisco Bay Area.

This book outlines concrete steps we in the west must take to prevail in the conflict with islamofascism. One of the most important and obvious things we must do is address the fact that regimes who fund and support wahabbi islam (namely Saudi Arabia) have us by the economic balls. About 4 years ago on LGF, I raised the question of BBC bias against Israel. This bias is not just anti-Israeli but pro-muslim.
Even now and after 7/7, this bias continues and one has to ask, who governs the BBC and who defines its policy.
The BBC is paid for by the tax payers, the money coming from Foreign Office coffers, but it is the government that really controls the BBC. The BBC and the "established" Anglican Church as well, have to follow the government line.

There is also the matter to consider that there are thousands of British troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Their task is difficult enough without having the entire population of both these countries turning on them. If that happens their task will becomne untenable, and withdrawal will be the only choice. That will mean victory for OBL and muslims everywhere, and they will loudly proclaim it.
I do not find it surprising that the President Bush and PM Blair, and official announcements of these countries have been restrained in this matter. It would not surprise me as well, that editors of newspapers in the UK, Australia and the US, have been asked to restrain themseles, as our soldiers are over there.
This is a burden of responsbility for the lives of our troops, as well as the outcome of the fighting war, that we have not considered so far.

DP111 - Britain lost all it's finest in WW2. The Neville Chamberlains of Britain bred like rabbits and are now in a majority (after all what's their motto? "Make love not war"). Those who came home from WW2 left it up to the "educational institutions" to educate the next three generations (you know the same ones that like Saudi Oil money "donations").
The same has happened in all Western countries to varying degrees. Besides - if this Islamic invasion and cultural war is not dealt with within the next 10 years - it's all over. With out infidel birth rate being the biggest weapon the Muslims have.

Above all, the birth rate and hence TIME is on their side.
Call me a pessimist, but is this war really winable? They die because they believe in Allah. What does an atheist die for?
As for our "Christian countries", well we haven't been a Christian country since the "Flower Power" generation took hold. So there won't be to many "athiests in foxholes". Trouble is, they won't be Christian either!
Isn't the proper translation of "Allahuakbar" "ALLAH IS GREATER?" not "God is great"?
This confuses Westerners into believing that the Muslims are chanting about the Abrahamic God, and not some nightmare invention by their false "prophet".
I believe this slight sounding difference may be significant - But I am certainly no Arabic scholar. But I do believe that, despite Muslim claims, that their god "Allah" is NOT the same God that the Judeo/Christians worship. It seems that the comparitive phrase "Allah is Greater" begs the question "Than whom?" -- The Muslims may be clearly saying "Allah is greater than your God" and this would certainly fit with their triumphalist supremacist fantasies...
Any Arabic scholars around to shed some light on this speculation?

A decade ago when the muslim population was expanding fast and no real understanding of the nature of the people we were allowing in, I thought that the West would die with a whimper.
Now I'm not so sure. I think we will win, for when push comes to shove, the muslims will blink. It is still going to be tough going but the population of the West is waking up. For too long we in Britain have been a fed BBC propaganda or celebrity pap. Even this I'm glad to see is changing.
You are right that the WWII generation was a different one altogether, but all it requires now is for one man or woman to rise to the occasion. We are not quite finished yet.
I think we are goading muslims to do something really stupid. The Europeans who are not involved in any major way in Iraq or Afghanistan are doing it at home, while we, and I mean the US and the UK, are needling the sensitivities of muslims by invading their countries.
As democracies, both Britain and the US have historically required a BIG reason to go to war i.e., for the type of war we engage in - Big ones. And when they do, there is no further talk until complete victory.
We are now in the process of trying to get that reason. All it requires is for some muslim nation or group of terrorists to do something stupid.

What does an Atheist die for? For starters we prefer to make others die for their beliefs. Freedom is well worth fighting for god beliefs or not.
Just because someone is willing to die for their beliefs doesn't mean they have the winning hand. There are still plenty good Christians so don't count them out either.
