And why? Probably because they actually believe their own Tiny Minority of Extremists line. From Insight Magazine:
The U.S. intelligence community has been shaken in its failure to predict Hamas's victory in Palestinian legislative elections. The intelligence failure came despite a Saudi assessment relayed to the United States that Hamas would win the elections. Officials said the CIA was influenced by an Israeli assessment that predicted a victory by the ruling Fatah movement led by Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.
"There are a lot of questions going to be asked when the dust settles," an official said. "The biggest question is: do we really know what's going on out there?"
Nope. I think they should read Jihad Watch.
I'm not too distresed by the Hamas victory, or by the cartoon riots (that phrase cracks me up - what a fragile bunch muslims can be!), because they let the world see that we are not barking up the wrong tree with islam. It really is as bullying, as intolerant, and as violent as we say it is.
DON'T CALL THE PROPHET A TERRORIST, OR WE WILL BEHEAD YOU AND BURN YOUR EMBASSIES IN HIS NAME!
I guess logic is not their strong point. And they certainly have a unique form of diplomacy. Well, not QUITE unique - it has a whiff of 1930s Berlin about it.
Asked by Jim Lehrer tonight about the Administration's failure to predict the Hamas victory in the "Palestinian election (of course, the constant skewing of the opinion polls by pollster, Fatah (the gentler, slower Lesser Jihad) supporter, and Brandeis teacher Kahlil Shikaki, were not a good guide for the Americans to rely on. But Cheney continued to console himself with the misleading explanation that while everyone had been aware of the corruption of the Arafat years, loyally continued by the corrupt wolf-in-accoutant's-clothing Abbas, they had not realized the depth of resentment of what Cheney much too easily called simply a "vote against corruption." He still does not understand the whole point about "democracy" as mere vote-counting in the Muslim countries. It will always lead to Islam, for there are always far more primitive extreme Believers than there are Makiyas, Chalabis, and Allawis, who themselves may be "Muslims-for-identification-purposes-only" Muslims who wish that they could jettison all of it, but out of filial piety, political or careerist calculation, cannot jettison Islam altogether (memories of a pious grandmother's cooking, solace sought in some mythical past of a millennium ago so wrongly identified with the putative greatness of Islam when whatever emerged of value was despite, not because of, Islam.)
Yes, there was corruption in the "Palestinian" territories. And there is corruption in Egypt, and in Saudi Arabia, and everywhere in the regimes run by those despots in the Arab and Muslim world. But the point is this: the entire universe is seen through the prism of Islam. There is Islam and only Islam. The good government party, the party of the disaffected, will always be Islamic. That is the point.
Until conditions are created for Muslims themselves to see that the lords of misrule that they endure have been fostered by the tradition of despotism that Islam (and its "uswa hasana" model for all time) encourages, as the habit of mental submission and discouragement of free and skeptical inquiry is naturally, at all times and everywhere, against the creation of a free citizenry (for god's sake, we are not asking for the sturdy English yeomen to be created -- just some sense that the legitimacy of a government resides, believe it or not, in the consent of the governed, and not in a despot or the Shari'a, which is simply despotism reduced to rules), they will suffer from Islam -- and so will we. Do nothing to change them. Leave them be. Don't help them. Don't invade (but make sure they don't acquire major weaponry). Don't let them have easy access to Western goods and services. Work to reduce their funds, so that they cannot employ the "wealth weapon" to fund the world-wide Jihad. Allow whatever divisions that exist within Islam to grow, and grow, and grow -- do nothing to discourage that growth.
That's it. And don't find solace in the notion that some Muslims were "voting against corruption." So they were. But they were also voting for Islam, more Islam, naked Islam, no longer the pretense of something else which in any case was purely for the consumption of the non-Islamic world.
It's time for the Senate to seriously consider shuttering the CIA and transferring its duties over to the Pentagon.
And this should be done not just because of the CIA's stupendous incompetence, although that alone is breathtaking. It should be done because the it is politicized and disloyal to the Commander in Chief. Which is unacceptable for an organization in the military chain of command.
DISLOYAL CIA DISLOYAL STATE DISLOYAL WHITE HOUSE DISLOYAL CONGRESS
I was a social event the other night with a business columnist for a major American daily newspaper. Naturally, he's a Leftist who fervently believes that this whole Islam thing is a terrible misunderstanding and a failure on our part to communicate.
When I mentioned that the CIA had become a laughinstock because of its storied disloyalty, he said, "Well, I for one am glad they're disloyal because I hate the guy in the White House."
I responded, "I hope neither of your sons serve in the armed forces, because with an ethos like that the soldiers and marines around them would be unsafe.
He scowled, Moslem-style. I went on to remark, "But your kids would never serve in the military anyway, now would they."
I hate to admit this, but until the United States government, people, and institutions FINALLY come to an understanding of the TRUE, non-PC and unsanitized nature of Islam (in all its horrific and evil glory) they will continue to be collectively taken advantage of and made the laughingstock of the entire world as we have witnessed here with the CIA's most recent debacle (all along being unable to see the direction Palestinian elections were heading--which was terrorism).
Gee, Americans don't understand Muslims or Islam much of the world is probably musing. Don't Americans look like imbeciles? (Yes).
And this is ironic since I am a PATRIOT!!!
the opinion poll results so obviously worked over
Am I reading this right? They considered polls "intelligence?" That's just lazy.
The Saudis and Abbas' people got it right because they had people on the ground with their finger on the pulse of what was really happening.
"Human intelligence" is desperately needed, in both the literal and intel-jargon sense.
from the article
But the administration plans to oppose the bill. Officials said President Bush has quietly decided to continue aid to the PA to prevent an Arab backlash as well as Iranian efforts to take over the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
"The president will tell Congress that helping the PA is an integral part of the U.S. withdrawal strategy from Iraq," an official said.”
Boy this makes me angry. I hate American money going to Sieg Heilers. Maybe Congress will enforce it.
If you begin from several wrong premises, such as
1)"there is nothing wrong with Islam, just with those who would pervert this noble faith" and
2) voting for nakedly Islamist (as opposed to slightly disguised Islamist) parties everywhere merely reflects disenchantment with the current government and its failure to deliver the goods
then it follows that
The Infidels should deliver those goods themselves, through the Jizyah of foreign aid, and that will dampen the enthusiasm for the nakedly Islmaist parties which, presumably, will represent some kind of fantastic gain for Infidel interests.
Exactly why it is a fantastic gain if, because the Americans and Europeans keep supply in ghtat jizyah, Fatah can finally triumph over Hamas, all the better to what? To more cunningly pursue precisely the same goals, on a slightly more leisurely timetable, in slightly less obvious fashion? Exactly why is it a great achievement if more Jizyah aid keeps being fed to Egypt, so that Mubarak (or his waiting son) can stay in power, along with that Friends-and-Family plan that we are all so familiar with, the better to soak the Americans for more aid, but not in any way to diminish the official encouragement, at every level, of anti-Americanism and antisemitism and now anti-Copt feeling that helps, the Mubarak regime believes, stave off the critics in the Muslim Brotherhood. Nor is it clear why other sums going to other Muslim regimes is money well spent, as if there is really some great difference, as far as Infidels are concerned, which kind of Islamic regime is offered by the rulers -- the really obviously bad, or the really less obviously bad.
Once it is clear that the Americans have no business supporting a Hamas regime, a regime of open terrorism, whatever pretense it may now offer, in the hope of what -- of bringing back a mere variant on the same theme, when it now has a chance to kick the Jizyah habit -- America is "addicted to oil" as Bush observed and then failed to offer anything serious about that addiction, but America and Europe are also now "addicted to payment of the Jizyah." And that addiction is much more easily ended.
Just go cold turkey. You won't regret it. It will change all kinds of Muslim attitudes, and rather quickly. And make the ending of that Jizyah permanent. It's a new world -- or should be. Time to demonstrate that something has been learned these past few years, something a bit more realistic than this "Iraq the Model" business that is such a waste of our resources, such a clumsy attempt to keep avoiding, evading reality. It can't go on.
But for god's sake, take baby steps if you can't see why Iraq only works for Infidels if those Sunnis and Shi'a are not forced to lie down with each other, but to deal with each other as comes so very naturally.
Baby steps: stop Jizyah.
Next step: Out of Iraq.
Next step: Damage, as much as it can be damaged, and perhaps coming back for more at intervals, the Iranian nuclear project.
Next step: make NATO a different kind of alliance, where any kind not of "armed attack" but simply of "attack" on a member state, as that being conducted now on Denmark, will be treated as an attack on all the member states.
Renew the Atlantic Alliance. Undo the last 30 years of Muslim propaganda that has played so successfully on the pre-existing mental conditions of anti-Americanism and antisemitism.
Next step: do something dramatic to show black Christians in Africa they will no longer be abandoned. And include those black Muslims who have been victims of Arab supremacism, in the form of the Janjaweed. Seizing the southern Sudan and Darfur might be accomplished with ease, would hearten black Christians in West and East Africa, and especially in Ethiopia, where Egyptian bullying has prevented the perfectly reasonable use of Nile waters by the government of Ethiopia for irrigation projects.
Next step: revise the citizenship laws in all the countries of Western Europe and North America, so that loyalty to the nation-state, and to its basic principles, must be clearly sworn. And evidence of either perjury, or future disloyalty to such principles, should be grounds for removing that citizenship which is not a right but a privilege.
Next step: Monitor the use of money from abroad to support mosques and madrasas, especially from Saudi Arabia.
Next step: This should actually start right away, and be the kind of basso ostinato that one hears throughout: work not for "energy independence" but to reduce all oil-consuming nations' reliance on, and transfer of wealth to, the Arab and Muslim members of OPEC. Whatever achievements are made, by any Infidel countries, in nuclear, solar and wind energy, or in new kinds of automobile engines, or in any other energy-related matter, should be promptly shared with the rest of the oil-consuming nations, for they have a joint stake in lessening such consumption.
Next step: Okay, your turn. You come up with a few.
None of this is likely to happen until larger numbers of Infidels, all over the Western world, and especially by political figures and journalists, take the time -- about as much as they routinely take to study the stock market, or the sports pages, or Consumers Research to find out which toaster or washing machine to buy -- to study, with appropriate scholarly guides (not of the living, apologist variety) the Qur'an, the Hadith, and the Sira. And in addition, they should study the history of Islamic conquest and subjugation of non-Muslims, from Spain to East Asia, over 1350 years, for they will find that a remarkable similarity in the impulse and nature of such conquest, and such subjugation.
OT,
Scroll down and see the picture of a baby with a pacifier in his mouth, covered in blood...a true death cult, abusers of babies, stupid religion.

Over the Scopes Monkey trial, in the 1920's, was a banner:
"Read Your Bible".
We need one now that says:
"Read The Koran"
But with the opposite intent.
To disabuse the p.c. pixillated of the "religion" of peace delusion.
Until people put down their tv. remotes and crack the (remarkably short, so quite easy to finish in a few sittings) "Holy Book of Islam", they'll actually think there's something inside worth respecting.
Let the mass disillusionment begin!
On Hugh's comments on re-structuring NATO, I agree with that, but would do it differently. First of all, make this a worldwide organization, instead of a North Atlantic organization: change the name. This is no longer restricted to Europe and North America.
Following that, make it a worldwide infidel alliance: countries that are on the frontlines of Jihad - Israel, India, Australia, Singapore, Phillipines, Ethiopia should be included in such an alliance. On the other hand, Islamic countries like Turkey should be dropped. The criteria for membership should not be the positions of the governments in power, but the popular opinion. One isn't likely to encounter Jihadists from India, Israel & Phillipines; otoh, Uzbegs, Uygars and Chechens figure prominently in al-Qaeda. For this reason, countries like Uzbegistan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Kyrghyzstan shouldn't be included.
This would, and should require major policy adjustments by all involved. The US should stop being allied with regimes like Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Egypt, and cease criticizing Russian operations in Chechenya and the Serbs in Kosovo. Russia should stop backing countries like Iran & Syria, and the US and Russia should come together. Similarly, India should stop supporting the Arabs on the Palestinian issue, and Iran on the nuclear issue (the latter has already been done, despite communist opposition). Ditto for the EU, if they are to be included in such an alliance.
Only other criteria for being admitted to such an alliance should be democracy: countries like Zimbabwe need not apply. But neither should Islamic democracies, including Afghanistan and Iraq.
Once all these things happen, then have all members involved withdraw from the UN. No point having an organization that is a total farce. Since the remaining members would mainly be OIC regimes, that would make the UN completely irrelevant.
"Am I reading this right? They considered polls "intelligence?" That's just lazy."
I wonder if those conducting the exit poll had a big sign on their backs saying something like,
"I am a stupid kafur, deceive me!",
on their backs.
Bukhari:V4B52N268 “Allah’s Apostle said, ‘War is deceit.’”
Qur’an 4:142 “Surely the hypocrites strive to deceive Allah. He shall retaliate by deceiving them.”
Bukhari:V7B71N661 “Magic was worked on Allah’s Apostle and he was bewitched so that he began to imagine doing things which in fact, he had not done.”
Qur’an 33:11 “In that situation the Believers were sorely tried and shaken as by a tremendous shaking. And behold! The Hypocrites and those in whose hearts is a disease said: ‘Allah and His Messenger promised us nothing but delusion; they have promised only to deceive us.”
Bukhari:V2B24N555 “I heard the Prophet say, ‘Allah hates for you for asking too many questions.’”
Qur’an 89:5 “There surely is an oath for thinking man.”
Qur’an 92:8 “We will make smooth for him the path to misery.”
etc, etc, etc.
What's this? Israel predicted Fatah would win and was WRONG?!? What happened to the all-powerful Jewish-Zionist conspiracy that "rules the world by proxy"? What are Mahathir's Muslims going to use now as an excuse as to who really pulls the strings on world events, making life impossible for the ummah?
Robert: "Nope. I think they should read Jihad Watch."
Now aint that a fact...And thank you for providing it, so that the blind can begin seeing, and deaf can begin hearing, and the mis-understanders can start understanding.
After the beast of Iran was elected prez, and it appears that Iraq gets a muslim gov, why would anyone be surprised by Hamas win? The whole point is for Islam to take over, and thats what they are doing. When Eisenhower was running for prez a lot of people thought that the times called for a military president. In most cases where elections are held, muslims are doing the same thing. They need militant activists/terrorists, like beasty boy in Iran, in power to accelerate this phase of the plan.
I dont think it's long till 'beasty' and his cohorts 'appoint' someone Mahdi. When this 'Mahdi', real or fake, starts talking everyone listens...all muslims obey...
Bush, rice and the rest of them have had it wrong from the beginning. They seem to think that democracy transformed hitler's germany. But hitler was also the result of elections.
What transformed germany was the total catastrophe it was subjected to (idem for japan). And this is the only thing that will transform the muslim world.
I am extremely distressed that this article goes on to state that President Bush intends to oppose bills being introduced in the House, seeking to limit or withhold assistance to the Palestinian Authority.(Two bills currently "in the hopper" are H.R.4668.IH, & H.R.4681.)
I have emailed both my senators & my representative this morning expressing my concern, & asking that they support ending aid to the Palestinians.
The President once said that anyone who supported terrorists would be considered a terrorist themselves. By continuing to funnel money to the Palestinians, he would make the US. a terrorist state under his own definition.
Please take the time to let your reps & senators know where you stand on this issue. If we make enough noise, they may stand behind us.
I find this story a little hard to believe. The CIA actually thought that Hamas was going to lose? When all independent observers were predicting a clear Hamas victory before the election took place?
After the election, I was surprised at the MSM and Administration's feigned surprise. This was talked about and predicted for weeks, if not months. They knew it was coming, but after chanting the "democracy-solves-all-problems" mantra for years now, they were powerless to stop it.
finnschick, I will be following your advice. Thank you.
