The "moderate" Sheikh Al-Qaradawi weighs in on cartoon rage, and in effect calls for more riots and irrational violence. From MEMRI:
In a February 3, 2006 Friday sermon, Sheikh Yousef Al-Qaradhawi, who is head of the European Council for Fatwa and Research, president of the International Association of Muslim Scholars (IAMS), and the spiritual guide of many other Islamist organizations across the world (including the Muslim Brotherhood), exhorted worshippers to show rage to the world over the Danish paper Jylland Posten's publication of cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad. The sermon was aired on Qatar TV on February 3, 2006. The following are excerpts from the sermon:[...]
"The nation must rage in anger. It is told that Imam Al-Shafi' said: 'Whoever was angered and did not rage is a jackass.' We are not a nation of jackasses. We are not jackasses for riding, but lions that roar. We are lions that zealously protect their dens, and avenge affronts to their sanctities. We are not a nation of jackasses. We are a nation that should rage for the sake of Allah, His Prophet, and His book. We are the nation of Muhammad, and we must never accept the degradation of our religion.

"The governments must be pressured to demand that the U.N. adopt a clear resolution or law that categorically prohibits affronts to prophets - to the prophets of the Lord and His messengers, to His holy books, and to the religious holy places. This is so that nobody can cause them harm. They enacted such laws in order to protect the Jews and Judaism. Like some Danes have said: 'We can mock Jesus and his mother.' They were asked: 'Can you mock the Jews?' Here they stopped. The Jews are protected by laws - the laws that protect Semitism, and nobody can say even one word about the number [of victims] in the alleged Holocaust. Nobody can do so, even if he is writing an M.A. or Ph.D. thesis, and discussing it scientifically. Such claims are not acceptable. When Roger Garaudy talked about it, he was sentenced to jail, according to the laws. We want laws protecting the holy places, the prophets, and Allah's messengers."
There is no comparison here with fantasies of Holocaust denial. He wants to choke off free discussion of the connection between Islam and violence -- which would in effect allow the jihadists a free hand to work in Western countries.

Muslim scholars holding emergency talks called for a change in the law to stop insulting pictures of the Prophet Muhammad being published.
Officials from the Muslim Action Committee (MAC) meeting in Birmingham also called for the Press Complaints Commission code to be tightened to restrict British newspapers from following European media in printing the caricatures.
A protest march from Trafalgar Square to Hyde Park on February 18 involving around 50,000 Muslims would be staged, Shaikh Faiz Saddiqi, spokesman for the MAC, said.
Speaking at a press conference held at a mosque in Small Heath, Mr Saddiqi told reporters that discussions among hundreds of Muslim Scholars from around the UK resulted in agreement of a number of changes.
They included the modifying of the Race Relations Act to give Muslims the same rights as Jews and Sikhs along with the tightening of the Press Complaints Commission Code of Conduct.
He said the code should include rules stopping the publication of the Prophet of Muhammad.
"Insulting the Prophet of Islam is worse than insulting your wife, children or sister. It happens once, it happens twice but a third time you are going to take action. Enough is enough, we have to get back to being a civil society."
He said there had not been such an insult to Islam since Salman Rushdie published his book, the Satanic Verses.
"There has been reports of very deep offence because of the cartoons, and also deep anger and frustration that once again we have not learned the lesson from the last time the Prophet Muhammad was insulted.
"It is as if the media around the world just don't get it, the publication of an image of the Prophet Muhammad in itself is a deep insult."
Islam cannot handle criticism, it cannot handle dissention, it cannot handle tolerance. Unless you are psychotic and intellectually dishonest, the life of Mohammed cannot be compared favorably to the life of Christ. Comparing the life of Mohammed based on the Koran (Quran) and the Hadith to the life of Christ based on the Gospels shows the inferiority of Mohammed. It is laughable to think that God would write a book (the Quran) that condemns and attacks his own children (Christians and Jews). I do not believe that Mohammed was a prophet. I believe that the Quran was written by humans. It is not the word of God. It is my opinion, and Muslims would kill me for it.
Christianity can handle the criticism and, in fact, has reconciled faith with reason and science and philosophy. Islam tried its hand at that in the past, but the fundamentalism won out.

To accept such an illogical responsibility guarantees your future arbitrary punishment at the hands of the offended, who have shown their lack of maturity and restraint. As J. B. Kelly showed in "Arabia, the Gulf, and the West," the blague of Faysal was simply part of the smoke-and-mirrors about a nonexistent "oil weapon." Had the Arabs and Muslims managed to create modern economies, after having received the largest transfer of wealth -- every bit of it entirely unmerited -- in human history, then perhaps they would be in a position to tell the West to go to hell as suggested above. But they didn't. They failed everywhere to develop more than Disneyworld economies, with giant towers in Dubai, and private palaces, each one more disgustingly decadent than the next (see the American television cameras allowed iinside Prince Talal's modest garconnniere, the one with the nine separate restaurants). Saudis despise work. Arabs have traditionally despised certain occupations, including farming. Looting was considered so honorable to Muslims, that in the Persian poet Hafiz there is a description of the Feast of Plunder, a banquet which the guests had earned, but which they swooped down on horeseback to enjoy, because only if they had it as a result of plundering could they truly enjoy it. There is no work ethic in Islam. There is the right to exploit the non-Muslims, whose contributions -- from Christians, Jews, Hindus, Zoroastrians -- helped support the Muslim state, as did whatever loot or slaves could be seized on constant raids within dar al-Harb. The United States and the Netherlands, both relatively pro-Israel, actually received more oil from the Arabs than did Britain and France, both falling all over themselves in pro-Arab statements and policies.
Today, what would or could the Arabs do? They have assets all over the Western world. Those assets can be seized, and sold, just as the assets of enemy aliens were promptly seized during World War II. It is not only real estate that is illiquid, though there are plenty of private apartments owned by the princes and princelings and princelettes that could be taken. There are also bank accounts.
And what would it mean to the Arab and Muslim world if they could not buy Western technology? Western armaments? Western consumer goods? If they could not, or at least the ruling classes could not, travel to Europe and American combination brother-cum-funfair that the Lands of the Infidels have become? Who, in his right mind, would condemn himself to the solitary confinement of Dar al-Islam for the rest of his life? Al-Qaradawi maybe (though his children are studying in the West -- perhaps it's time to send them home, and thereby make a point?), Ahmadinejad certainly.
But all those worldly, wealthy, corrupt Saudis, or others from the Gulf statelets? Do you think, with their apartments in Belgravia, or the Avenue Foch, or in McLean, Virginia, they are quite so willing to never again see the world of the Infidels, so wonderful, so seductive, and so -- well, just so Infidel.
Of course not.
But I like Al-Qaradawi's idea. I like that camel-and-dates notion. Return to the thrilling days of yore, with raids on that oasis over there, and camel races over here. Go ahead. Leave us alone. Why is it, do you suppose, that except for Malaysia, where until recently half the population -- the productive, entrepreneurial half -- was non-Muslim, Al-Qaradawi naturally lists the countries of East Asia, all of which were at one time as poor, and some much poorer, than any of the Arab or Muslim states? Doesn't he realize that South Korea in 1950 was as poor as Egypt? That China was much poorer?
Why don't we ask the Muslims to explain how it is that despite all the non-oil Muslim countries being the recipients of vast amounts of outside, Infidel aid (i.e. Jizyah), with $60 billion going to Egypt from the United States alone, and despite the Arab and Muslim oil states having received some $10 trillion dollars since 1973, not one of these countries produces goods or services for themselves -- which is why, in issuing his threat, he says that

The rulers, and the ruling classes, put up glittering Las-Vegas palaces (see that Dubai Tower for the display of Arab taste in modest living), indulged in the most fantastic personal debauchery, bought yachts to moor off the villas in Marbella and the apartments in Monte Carlo, and the estates in the Home Counties, and all the rest. While the taste for luxe of th erich Arabs is world-famous, at the same time they are completely indifferent -- that should be a matter, in their view, for the Infidels to handle -- of the state of the non-oil Arabs and Muslims. Indifferent, contemptuous, or even full of murderous hatred. No rich Arabs dropped a tear when Saddam Hussein massacred Kurds and Shi'a, nor do they drop a tear now about poor people in Pakistan or Indonesia or Bangladesh, and as for poor black Muslims in Africa -- well, more power, as far as they are concerned, to the Arab Muslims in the Janjaweed taking care of that little problem.

In his view, if the Arabs and Muslims, don't buy it from the West, they have another option. And that other option is to buy those goods from countries which, without OPEC money, and scarcely fifty years ago, were as poor or even poorer than any Arab or Muslim country. But Al-Qaradawi and his Muslim audience know, they can't offer to be independent, to produce things themselves. Because they haven't done so. And they won't. They won't produce or create or offer anything to the world. All they have is that oil they happen to sit on. And those camels. And those dates.
That is what is being admitted. That is al-Qaradawi's view of the Arabs and Muslims. What contempt he has for them, and for himself, though he would not see it that way.
And yet he blusters about these "lions" who roar, and who will make the whole world do what they want, for they are the world's commander.
A fascinating look into that famous psychology of the Muslims. Megalomania, and yet, at the same time, a recognition of their helplessness.
But no recognition, none, that the cause of that helplessness is to be found in the inshallah-fatalism that Islam itself encourages, in the habit of mental submission that Islam itself encourages, in the fear of free and skeptical inquiry, so necessary for the undertaking of science and of much else in the world, that Islam itself discourages.
So they are going to drink the milk from their camels? They better be able to tell the male camels from the female camels! :-)
Seriously, this insane rage about some rather tame and silly cartoons is proving to be an eye opener for some people. Already a couple of people to whom I had tried to talk to about the dangers of Islam but didn't want to hear about it are suddenly telling me maybe I was right after all. I think what some earlier posters noted is true: Islam fears the future and it is in its death-throes. This is why we are seeing more and more hysteria and violence from Islam and less subversive quietude.
We must strike before the 'barbarians' get the 'bomb' and we must rid ourselves of this thirsty need for oil.
I believe they have shown us their cards with these comments. All of this, "we are not jackasses, we are lions" b.s. sounds very much like the insecurity of people who believe they are inferior, but WISH to be thought of as fierce and great.

Never watched the show (only saw adverts in passing so I know the schtick), preferring Lucius Apuleius' "The Golden Ass- or Transformations" instead. About a young Roman fellah who is charmed by a seductive sorceress and ends up enchanted into the form of a jackass (Shakespeare stole the plot for "A Midsummer Night's Dream").
Lucius the Ass must eat roses to break the spell, and the raunchy comedy of his getting to that elusive bouquet is a fun ride. (Robert Graves' translation is nice.)
Islam is the modern day stand-in for the asinine sorceress, and all who are charmed by its dangerous magick seem to become compleat asses.
Although not so goddamned golden.

We are not a nation of jackasses, I’m sorry to tell you but you’re dead wrong! The Arabs spawn from the nation of Ishmael and in Genesis 16: 11-12 it says the following:
16,11 And the angel of the LORD said unto her: 'Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son; and thou shalt call his name Ishmael, because the LORD hath heard thy affliction. 16,12 And he shall be a wild ass of a man: his hand shall be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the face of all his brethren.'
Now you tell me, does the bible account lie? There’s something to this because even before Muhammad’s time, the Arabs had continuous infighting and jockeying for power through clan on clan brutality. There was never any peace except in Mecca, which became neutral ground where the various Arabian tribes would have their treasured pagan idols housed in the Kaaba. Yes you heard correct—the Kaaba, that tent which Moslems now bow down towards, everything old is new again. The Kaaba was just a tent that contained the mystic ‘Black Stone’ which fell to Earth, no doubt it was just a plan ordinary run of the mill meteorite. But the ancient and very superstitious Arabs thought it was a piece of the heavens, so they erected a tent around it. But later in history, somehow the Arab tribes began filling up this tent with various idols, each representing the god(s) of the different Arabian clans.
But wars for the scarce resources in the sands of Arabia were constantly being fought over, there was no such thing as sharing, just plain out right ownership of water wells, women, camels, land, etc. The only thing Muhammad changed was to throw out all the idols from the Kaaba, the “Black Stone’ remained but now he forced all his followers to bow 5 times a day to this tent! Muhammad’s entire belief system to unite all the Arabs into one super tribe called Moslems was all in vain. The Ishmaelites can’t change their genes, they were born to be wild asses, getting into everyone’s faces, taking what they want without ever sharing. They demand total control of the world while expecting absolute obedience from all challengers to their logic, power and greed. And as a result, for every action, there’s an equal an opposite reaction; that’s why the bible says his hand shall be against every man and every man's hand against him. This type of behavior leads to entrenched ignorance, stubbornness and constant battles with outsiders who challenge this very type of infantile emotional reactionary group think that is attributed to tribal societies.
After Muhammad’s death it didn’t take long for his followers to split apart and go on killing sprees over who should lead this new nation called Moslems. The entire split of Shiite and Sunni Moslems came about as various parties jockeyed for power. Because women had no power, their only power came by bolstering their males to represent them in their cause. The two girls in this case were Fatima, Muhammad’s daughter and Aisha, Muhammad’s child bride. The feud began because Fatima wanted her husband, Ali to become the next caliph while Aisha wanted her father, Abu Bakr to take over the reins of power. The Arabs that sided with Fatima’s cause became the Shiites while those Moslems that preferred Abu Bakr became known as the Sunnis.
But the bottom-line is that it never really mattered who became the caliph because the Ishmaelite heritage of all or nothing was too great. You can take the tiger out of the jungle and try to domesticate it but you can’t fight thousands of years of genealogical behavior (Roy, the magician learned that the hard way). You can’t tame Ishmaelites, their genes of being wild asses is too ingrained in their culture. This recent cartoon fiasco demonstrates this principle, this Imam Al-Shafi' said, “Whoever was angered and did not rage is a jackass. We are not a nation of jackasses.” See what I mean, their first response is to violently express their collective message to outsiders, to actively lash out against anyone who doesn’t respect them. But how can you respect a culture that fights for dominance with absolutely no concept on power sharing of views, thoughts, ideals and resources. The answer is you can’t!
That is why Muhammad reacted so violently to the Arabian Jews, they rejected him so he did what his culture had taught him, to lash out and dominate the outsiders! He banished most of the Arabian Jewish tribes, wholesale slaughtered others and took all their land, possessions and resources for his own. Then he redistributed his wealth among his newly minted tribe of Moslems. That’s why when Muhammad died, his followers fought among themselves, Sunni verses Shia to claim absolute dominance of the Moslem tribe. But this brain damaged religious schism demonstrates the absolute folly and downright illegitimacy of Muhammad’s utopian vision of a united Arab society.
The ultimate example of this schism, clan on clan violence and utter intolerance is epitomized by the Abassid clan verses the Umayyad clan. The Umayyads were the more liberal Moslems, experimenting with progressive ideas and were the clan responsible for that so-called golden era of Islam. It was the Umayyads that expanded Islam’s reach into the heart of Europe all the way westward to Cordoba in Spain. They’re the clan responsible for those magnificent libraries in Spain and for entertaining the idea of mixing Islam with modern European culture. Whereas the Abassidians began a puritan rebellion in Mecca and Medina not unlike the present-day Saudis who took over all Arabia for themselves under the religious guidance of the intolerant and autocratic Wahhabi sect. The Abassid went to war against the Umayyads and in the end massacred every living male Umayyad caliph from Egypt to Spain. Why, you ask? Because of those pesky Ishmaelite genes, they couldn’t help but act like wild asses and kill other Moslems. For the Abassids, the Umayyads were treated like outsiders even though they were Moslems because the Abassids saw Islamic adoption of liberal European ideals as threat to their religion. The Abassids assassinated all male Umayyad caliphs and all their immediate male descendants in order to maintain a pure form of Islam. Doesn’t this remind you of our modern-day world with the various forces of Islam struggling to fight for their vision of Moslem dominance and religious purity?
One hand you have the Saudis who are puritanical Sunnis fighting to fund Jihad and building fundamental Wahhabi mosques in as many countries as possible. They are also financially funding their own brand of terrorism in order to bring about a Sunni utopian world that includes the elimination of Judaism, Christianity and Shiites. Whereas the Iranians are Shiites, praying for their long lost leader, the Mahdi, the last line of Ali to miraculously appear in order to eliminate Judaism, Christianity and Sunnis. See this is the sheer stupidity of Muhammadism, these followers are trying so hard to pretend that they’re civilized but when push comes to shove, their true Ishmaelite genes burst through the surface. There can never be unity of the Arabs because of their entrenched Ishmaelite culture. The Sunnis and the Shiites are both saying the same thing, we’re entirely civilized anybody can see that and once the world follows exactly our thinking there will be peace. But see, that’s being an ass because there’s no way in hell you can make the world be all Sunni or all Shiite unless you kill everyone that opposes you and then you really will have hell on Earth.
That’s exactly where we are today both Sunni and Shiite are fighting each other for Moslem dominance, killing one another as well as killing as many Jews and Christians as possible. Now don’t dare tell me that these descendants of Ishmael aren’t still wild asses, striking his hand against every man and as a result, every man is striking back at him. Thus, today’s Moslems dwell in the face of all people and nations as a result of Muhammad’s followers trying to pretend to be something that they’re not-- a nation of jackasses!
The bitter irony is that Iranians are Persians, meaning non-Arabs descents of Ishmael and yet they are fighting for dominance in order to run an Arabian religious cultural and political apparatus. The Iranians keep saying to the western press, we’re not Arabs so stop labeling as Arabs. But if you’re not Arabs, then why should you care about bringing back an Arabian Messiah? Why do you pray in Arabic? And most importantly, why are you bowing down in the direction of the Kaaba, an Arabian cultural voodoo mystical tent? Talk about insanity! Talk about jackasses—let’s begin with the Iranians. See unlike the Saudis, the Iranians want ‘The Bomb’ in order to bring about the Mahdi! The Iranians are so fixated on fantasy that they are willing to institute a third world war in order to eliminate all Jews, Christians and Sunnis so that the Mahdi can rule the world of just Shiite Moslems! Now that’s asinine logic, which goes to demonstrate that once Ishmaelites invade a culture, that society soon becomes to resembles wild asses too. And thus, Iranians have become like Ishmaelites, as long as their will is to destroy most nations in the world, these nations in turn will be against Iran. And as long as Iran plays this doomsday card, they will forever dwell in the face of the civilized world, which just wants to be left alone and live in peace.
Thus it can be truly spoken that Islam is a nation of jackasses!

Yes,,it is a very valid point. Mo ain't no role model for anyone,,compared to most other religions.
Also,,I am wondering if Israel will be the acid test for the world. If they get away with destroying it,,as they claim, then they will be so emboldened I shudder to think what will happen next.
