T-shirt wearing Italian Minister asked to resign, refuses

"Berlusconi Demands Minister's Resignation After Libyan Protests" from Bloomberg:

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi asked Reforms Minister Roberto Calderoli to resign late yesterday after a mob attacked an Italian consulate in Libya angered about the T-shirt worn by the minister on Feb. 14 depicting a Danish cartoon of the prophet Muhammad.

About 1,000 protesters staged two attacks on the consulate building in Benghazi, Libya, yesterday, the Italian foreign ministry said. While fire was set to the front of the building, the Libyan police stopped the protesters from harming the six Italian staff, according to the ministry. Eleven protesters were killed by police, Corriere della Sera newspaper reported.

``I respect all faiths and support dialogue between religions and civilizations,'' Berlusconi said in a statement published on the government's Web site early today. ``Senator Calderoli's position isn't that of the government and it's evidently incompatible with an institutional role, so he's invited to resign.''...

Calderoli, a member of the anti-immigration Northern League party, earlier this week had T-shirts made with the Danish cartoons stamped on them. Calderoli said the shirts weren't meant to provoke Muslims, but instead to invite ``real dialogue.''

``It's time to stop making up stories about looking for dialogue with these people,'' Calderoli said on Feb. 14. ``They only want to humiliate people, full stop.'' Calderoli said it was ``hypocritical'' to distinguish between ``terrorist Islam and pacifist Islam.''

Calderoli refused to resign last night, the minister said in an interview published today in la Repubblica newspaper that was confirmed by his spokeswoman, who asked not to be named.

``I may even be sorry for the victims, but what happened in Libya has nothing to do with my T-shirt,'' Calderoli said in la Repubblica. ``That's not what's at stake. What's at stake is Western civilization.''...

We have much to fear: the end of Western civilization. Who are they to tell a free people what to say or do. Burlusconi neither obviously doesn't believe that Italians or free or that he is moving into a position of dhimmitude. Erroneously, as do most Europeans and Leftists, he believes that dialogue will solve everything. "Le'ts talk," as if this were a talk show, will end badly for the Italians and anone else that attempts the same. The men across the table may not be sporting weapons, but weaponized thugs are waiting in the shawdows.

Creeping Islamization has already changed their way of life. Now law-armed thugs will finish them off.

Calderoli for Prime Minister!! Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi does'nt know what side his bread is buttered.. lol .. http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/news/story.html?id=34cbfbb7-eb95-4e77-a155-3904297e45de This is the good news.

Calderoli's words are those of a TRUE prophet- not that violent, beheading pedophile that passes for a prophet in much of the world.
We are beyond talk -- Islam is a tumor, a cancer festering on the world. Sadly, Those in power seem to say, "ignore the cancer, it will go away, it will become benign...eventually...maybe...." imagine if you had such a tumor and your physician talked about it like this.
I say, the time has come for surgery -- lets cut this tumor out of western civilization.

Fiinally! A european leader who talks sense.

ITalians will be the first to stand up i believe, rarely do they stand for this shit

Islam is a murderous religion. Is this statement itself free speech or a hate crime?

It is free speech! The Danish cartoons constitute free speech. Free speech means a right of a person to offend, criticize or even ridicule. You have the right to criticise Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Scientology, anything! Concerning Islam specifically, any person has a right to claim that Islam is a murderous religion; that the Prophet was the devil or worse. All these statements whether you agree or not is simply the exercise of free speech. You are free to claim Moslems have beliefs reminiscent of small children, ninnies or even lunatics.

Free speech becomes hate speech when the speaker incites violence against someone specifically because of their religion or race.

Our world has everything on its head. The provocations of speech are not the Danish cartoons. It is the Moslem rioters in Pakistan, Libya, Turkey, Indonesia, Egypt, Palestine, UK, Denmark, Washington, NY, etc. who are attacking free speech. These rioters have a right to offend, criticize, or even ridicule Islam’s detractors or the Prophet’s artists, but their demonstrations against the publishers of the cartoons constitutes hate speech because the rioters intend to intimidate a specific group, in this case non- Moslems. Non- Moslems are being intimidated not to criticize Islam.

These are the hate speakers. Show your support for free speech. Insist that newspapers everywhere publish the cartoons. I am Calderoli. When a Moslem comes to kill Calderoli tell him you are Calderoli. Criticize the hate speakers intimidating your rights to free speech. If one is lobbying for legislating against hate crimes make sure hate crime is defined as we suggest that the crime consist of intimidating those who would publish or republish the Danish cartoons, not the other way around.

After Britain declared war on Nazi Germany in 1939, the whole of Europe was dragged into a war after Germany, quite reasonably, took offence at the declaration. If only Britain had appeased Nazi Germany a little more (the requests were quite reasonable) then war could have been averted and Europe could have avoided bloodshed.

Same with Islam, if only we did not continually provoke these fair minded people by outrageous actions such as: not hating Jews, defending free speech, not killing homosexuals, refusing to accept Islam as the superior idealogy, not treating women as second class citizens then all these problems could be avoided. Oh, I forgot to add, not mocking a 54 year old man who had sex with a 9 year old girl and whose idea of an afternoons entertainment was watching hundreds of men and boys beheaded at Medina.

Churchill wasn't Prime Minister when he was warning about the Nazi plane factories and being scoffed at.

It seems to me Calderoli is a Churchill of our own times.

"That's not what's at stake. What's at stake is Western civilization."

Bravo, Calderoli!

I have no respect for a "religion" that has none for me.

I have no tolerance for a "faith" that is intolerant of my different vision of the world from theirs.

A vision that respects freedom of thought, freedom of expression, freedom of belief (as long as the creed is not a murderous cult), compassion for other people who are struggling for enlightenemtn themselves (as long my compassion is not reduced to a delusional suicide trying to aid those working to kill me), love of all fellow creatures, including dogs and pigs, and a belief that everyone should be free to doubt anyone's chosen "faith" -as long as they don't get violent and fascistic about it.

Imperialistic Islam would destroy my hard-worn human freedoms, -its uncontradicted leaders call out for just that, daily- so how can I not oppose it?

Muslims will battle (and often kill) anyone trying to enjoy this life's pleasures of "wine, women & song" (as well as art, music and the further increase of our natural intelligence) here, now, in this world, so they can enjoy these same things, to excess, themselves, in the next.

Pure hypocrisy of desire masked as righteousness.

The shameless condemnation, on Earth, of what they most deseperatly long for in Paradise, times 72, leaves the Muslim Umma in a strange position:

-ordering us- in the free world- to behave like slaves to their dogmas while they rampage out of control -contemptuous of our laws.

All because we are doing - in the real world, -this delightful and painful planet around us- what they will only permit themselves to do when they are dead.

A more upside-down cult I can't conceive of.

I think they need to re-read the Koran, and see if somehow its core message got inverted by a typo somehwere along the line.

Hate others should be love others.

Forbid the joys of this life should read spread the joys of this life.

Women are only worth half of a man should be women are spiritually worth twice of a man, because only through her can come life into the world.

Just take what Mohammad said, turn it on its head ("Deus est demon inversus") and the truth comes out.

So, let them complain all they want about my intolerance of their intolerant "religion". That's what we fought for in the West for millenia:

Liberation from the tyranny of any one Vision.

If Muslim don't like our freedoms, then they can return to Mecca and plot our doom.

I'll be more than glad to meet their challenge.

And more people in the West are waking to the Mohammedan threat to bring back the living hell of the 7th century, and more are mentally joining the Resistance of free peoples everywhere to crush the despotic drive of these arrogant fanatics.

They state their war aims.

We need to state ours.

They want a holy terror state.

We want freedom from tyrants and terror.

Let the T-shirts express our "line in the sand".

"The cartoons were right!" would be one to spread.

(And no images even needed.)

Italian Minister Quits over Cartoon Row

The Italian minister of reform has resigned after stirring the anger of Muslims by wearing a T-shirt decorated with Western media cartoons satirising the Prophet Muhammad.

Minister Roberto Calderoli stepped down a day after rioting outside the Italian consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi led to at least ten deaths. Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi had also urged him to quit.

Tsk tsk tsk.. The Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is obviously another politician lacking a backbone, no doubt we'll be hearing a lot more from Roberto Calderoli.

That's not what's at stake. What's at stake is Western civilization.''...

Western Civ. is at stake - but it's not the muslim world that has our way of life in a stranglehold. We could wipe our feet with the entire muslim world if we had to.

The real issue is whether or not the western world, already beaten down by socialist ideals and PC crazed liberals, will be 'allowed' to respond to the encroachment of these radicals and their hateful ideology. So long as we have liberals pushing an appeasement agenda, the ACLU suing anyone who opposes the left fringe and the MSM advertising their agenda, we'll be hard-pressed to find politicians like Calderoli, who'll stand up instead of taking evasive action.

Berlusconi should resign.

The new Berlusconi electoral program includes full stop to immigration. Berlusconi is only trying to play it safe.

I hardly call getting rid of strong and right-minded leaders like Calderoli playing it safe. I call that Dhimmitude.

Hypotheticals:

Would a T-shirt with passages from the Qur'an, Sura 9 -- oh, let's just take 9.29 for example - be acceptable? What about various Hadith -- say, "Islam must dominate and is not to be dominated" or the hundreds and thousands of others of that ilk? Or the description of the deaths of Abu Afak or Asma bint Marwan, or what happened to the Banu Qurayza?

All with appropriate attribution, of course. Wouldn't want to worry about copyright problems.

You know, I don't know much about these Northern
League guys, but the statement from Calderoli is
promising.

I undertsand why Berlusconi has to fire him, it
isn't just mohammadans he has to appease. If
immigration to Italy from Muslim lands is being
stopped, that's a good thing. First, quit making
the problem worse! If you need immigrants, pay for Central and South Americans, and nonmuslim
Asians, to come to your country.

ExpatriateDK,
I understand the earlier meanings of the word
liberal, and I'm a liberal in that sense too.
But the word means something different now. Sort
of like the way "right wing" means racist in
European parlance. Maybe we can make words
meaningful again, who knows?

Free speech. Our most leathal weapon at this point of enlightenment in the battle against a murderous cult whose goals are stated openly against all infidels. We must press on even in the event that we become silenced by law.

Our Founding Fathers would..

"Calderoli, a member of the anti-immigration Northern League party"

Google the Northern League party of Italy. It is a "far right" political party. This is Right/Left issue, whether or not it "shouldn't" be.

When it does occur, it's mostly politicians on the far right who have been the ones to do and say the right thing about the problem of Islam. When the rare exception happens (Pim Fortuyn, Ayaan Hirsi Ali), they are vilified and ostracized by their own Leftist colleagues.

This is Right/Left issue, whether or not it "shouldn't" be.

And when neo-cons like Bush and Rice are delusional enough to repeat the absurd mantra that Islam is a "noble religion of peace", and when even Donald Rumsfeld can assert (last night on Feb. 17) emphatically to interviewer Charlie Rose that "it's only a small number of Muslim extremists who are the problem: the vast majority of Muslims are moderate!" -- it is because their minds have become infected with a general, amorphous intellectual pollution of PC Leftism that has become dominant culturally in the West in the last 50-odd years.

This is Right/Left issue, whether or not it "shouldn't" be.

An offensive t-shirt: Too casual. Time to upgrade to an offensive necktie.

These people are all playing politics with the lives/futures of our children and grandchildren.

"I hardly call getting rid of strong and right-minded leaders like Calderoli playing it safe. I call that Dhimmitude."

Calderoli is expression of a xenophobic movement. If he had been left in place, this would have given the pro-immigration left, composed by post-communists, room for extensive anti-Berlusconi and pro-Islam rhetorics. With elections imminent, Berlusconi was left with two options:

1) keep Calderoli and lose elections, or lose votes to Calderoli's extremist party, winning elections in a position of weakness before the EU and other international institutions who already hate Berlusconi.
2) send away Calderoli, who's also famous for his racist comments, and then implement stricter policies after the elections.

The Italian left is hugely pro-Islamic. Infact, they want immigration, and would sign with their blood to sell their children to Islam. Today in a political demonstration, leftist representatives have been openly calling for terrorism against Italian troops in Iraq. They are already blaming Berlusconi this way for Iraq peacekeeping as if it were a war of aggression.

Berlusconi = dhimmi is the comment of someone not using his mind. Calderoli with the 5% of votes, cannot be PM, as he would have no majority, being considered justly an extremist, although he is right on this issue. Berlusconi with 25% and the support of his coalition, won't have problems implementing measures against Islamic immigration, which he has already put in his electoral program. The alternative, is a post-communist and neo-communist governement, destined to give voting rights to Islamic immigrants. Pick your choice.

In a war, most important is to strike only when one is ready.

I'm not a very religious person at all. I know religion because i went to a religious school. But the sad fact is the more i read about Mohammud (piss be upon him) the more i truly belive he was an Anti-Christ. I belive there have been more than one! I mean if anti-christ means to "do the opposite" of What Jesus did then I can't find an anymore clear Example than Mohammud. NOt only of the Life and actions of Jesus himself but also of the Actions of the "Religions" after their initial leader died!
While jesus said "love your enemies" Mo said, "kill the infidels". To spread their religion the Christians did it through Martydom and witness, Mo did it through wars of conquest forcing "Dhimmis"(christians and jews) to live as second class citizens (apartheid) or convert. For pagans the fate was even worse, convert or die or be enslaved. Jesus never killed anyone, mo killed hundreds. Jesus never ordered anyone killed, Mo ordered the death of thousands. As far as we know, Jesus never owned slaves nor did he condone it. Mo turned it into a religious institution and high art form. Jesus never married becuase he had a higher calling. Mo had 11 wives and many "sex slave" concubines. Jesus was a virgin. Mo had sex with a 9 year old girl. Jesus said render unto caesar, Mo said, "I am Caesar". When a Christian does violence or evil he is doing it in direct CONTRADICTION of what Jesus did or said. When a Muslim kills an infidel or joins war against infidels or threatens to kill a person who insults Islam, he is doing Exaclty what Mohammd said he should do! I could go on and on but i think it is clear how Mohammud stood in relation to Is-lame. He was an Anti-christ.

"Politics today have grown far beyond the stereotypical left/right struggle."

I'm not talking about the classic, stereotypical left/right struggle. I am talking about a more amorphous cultural phenomenon: the dominance of certain (not all) Leftist ideas in the general sociopolitical culture.

One of those Leftist ideas is that Third World cultures are beyond reproach and whenever they exhibit pathologies, it is the fault of Western Colonialism and "neo-Colonialism".

A closely related Leftist idea is that Islam, as a Third World culture par excellence and a "noble religion of peace", cannot be substantively criticized unless you want to be smeared with charges of "Islamophobia", "racism", "neo-Colonialist Orientalism", "xenophobia", etc.

These are Leftist ideas that have percolated into our modern Western worldview and have become sociopolitically dominant, causing even some people on the Right to have to submit to them (or worse, to actually believe them).

Nevertheless, the Right retains a higher degree of rationality, and that explains why so many politicians on the Right have dared to say the right thing about Islam, and why so few on the Left have, by comparison.

MataMoros

I would love to turn around all the things in the Koran that I don't like.

But I am afraid - under the Shari'a, that I might be killed.

Looks like Mohammad's derogatory words - against women, will last as long as Islam does.

By the way did anyone find out about that bump on his back. You know the one they used to tell if he was a prophet or not.

My list for international leaders against Islam is growing:

Pia Kjaisgaard
Roberto Calderoli
Tom Tancredo

Any others?

Minister Roberto Calderoli stepped down a day after rioting outside the Italian consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi led to at least ten deaths. Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi had also urged him to quit.

Calderoli should also withdraw his party's support to Berlusconi. After all, Italy has had ~50 governments since WWII - what difference would one more make?

A POLITICIAN WITH BALLS. I'M GOBSMACKED BUT OH SO HAPPY...SOCK IT TO 'EM BABY!

Pass It On-

The "prophetic lump" on Mo's back turned out to only be a blood-filled tick.

Just like the Koran.

(Or is that now forbidden to say?)

Then I'll laugh it instead.

And that the Black Rock of the Ka'aba is actually just a large, petrified prehistoric leech.

Humor is the disinfectant for all crazy cults.

metamoros, dont tempt me, please

"Calderoli should also withdraw his party's support to Berlusconi. After all, Italy has had ~50 governments since WWII - what difference would one more make?"

Calderoli is not even the leader of his party. The leader of his party infact, approves his removal, quite wisely.

Why wisely?

Because he picked the perfect moment not to do this, and he did it. Italy has, as I was explaining above, elections in 2 months, and the left may win (which means unrestrained immigration, anti-american politics, anti-Israeli politics, vote for non-citizens = Islamic immigrants).

Hugh,

I like your idea about the T-shirts. Perhaps we could take 5:51 and paraphrase it (turn it around) to read: "O ye who believe, take not the Muslims for your friends and protectors, They are but friends and protectors to themselves." The we cans see if CAIR tries to sue us for spreading hate and anti-Islam rhetoric.

Woodrock

"You americans really need to learn what the word liberal means and where it comes from, so you can stop using it to label a group of people that are in no way liberal in the true sense of the word."

Unfortunately for folks like yourself, ExpatDK, these are the terms which many Americans use to define themselves and they have become, in the US, synonymous with the behavior I described.

Consider that Neville Chamberlain, advocate of appeasement, was a "conservative".

As this post shows, a dispute over etymology is the least of our worries.

Do a google on PAULINE HANSON from Australia, she's one who would make things right if given the chance.

Don't forget the obvious choice of that Dutch politician, Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

Italians, you know who to vote for.

French can vote for de Villiers or even Le Pen.

The British have the BNP.

Australians have Peter Costello, Bronwyn Bishop, Sophie Panopoulous, Tony Abbott, Danna Vale, and maybe even Kevin Rudd.

Voltaire-

John McCain, in America, at least sounds a little more aware of the need for openly resisting Imperialistic Islam. Tom Tancredo and Kurt Weldon are also pretty cogent concerning the militant Mohammedan threat.

For the rest, it is the usual gang of idiots. Or outright Quislings in Their Own Private Oz -like Carter, Clinton and Gore. (The Scared Crower, The Cowardly Liar and the Tin Ear.)

Drifting in the Cloud-Cuckoo Land illusion of 'Everyone is Really the Same', if we could just all pray together.

They fail to grasp that Islam is saying 'prey' while our people say 'pray'.

Semantics is killing us.

Along with the semiotic swindlers in the universities, intent on cultural hari-kiri, while greasing the sliding board to hell for their hapless students.

As Blake said:

"If the fool would persist in his folly, he would become wise."

(By banging up hard against indifferent reality enough times to finally learn to change course.)

Edouard Ballaman of the italian Northern League has been touring Northern Italy with a conference featuring Theo van Gogh's Submission as the mainstay.

He is under constant police protection.

The Northern League is the most outspoken anti-islamist political party in the whole Europe, with the exception perhaps of Denmark.

You seem to have mistaken me for something of a moderate.

On the issue of Islam I am as far right as they come. I think most readers here recognize that, so when you imply I'm not using my head when believing that a man who is correct in his reasoning when it comes to standing up for Freedom of Speech in the face of Islam (i.e. Calderoli) should be protected, no matter what his political leanings, I just shrug. We live in a time when the boldest of the West are being pushed into corners by the calculating Eisenhower types when it is beyond obvious that we could use a lot more Pattons.

More lives will be lost in the long run the more we coddle Muslims and refuse to look the enemy in the eye. It is no different than the building confrontation with the Nazis or with the later confrontation with the Communists. In all instances we as Westerners have made the same mistake -- we wait until the boiling point.

I hope I prove to be the biggest of fools if that truly saves American lives, but I can anyone see a way off this road to war? If so, please show me the exit now.

It is past time that we started arming our hawks instead of plucking their feathers.

Today all ministers, including those who asked his dimissions, have said that they respect his stance.

There is a difference between being brave and being foolhardy. That difference consisting, I will say again, in knowing when and what to attack.

If Calderoli has chosen any other moment, he wouldn't have been forced to resign. With elections and winter Olympic in Italy, it was a good idea to kick him out.

He'll come in handy after the elections in any case.

Italy we be Moslim control in 25 or 30 years time. Just read Patrick J. Buchanan The Death of the West.
The non-moslim women of Italy arenot have enought babies to replacement level of 2.1 babies per women.
Italy's birthrate has been below replacement level for 25 years now 30 years going by copyright date and time to write and print a book. The brithrate of nonmoslim women in Italy is 1.2 babies per women over her child bearing age. While italian women who convert to Islan and moslim women in Italy have than
highter birthrate of 3.0 to 4.0 babies per woman. Italy need immigrants people who work to bear the load of its deeply indebted pension system.

It doesnot matter what the current government does as any future government can undo it. Than moslim woman doesnot have to wear than headscraft expect when in the place of workship.
