UK press holds back in cartoon row

As does the American press. Out of respect for Islam, they say. Yet they have never been moved by similar respect for other religions. Could it be that they are...afraid? Or is it that they are so befogged with Saidist nonsense that they cannot bear the idea of offending non-white, non-Christian, non-Westerners, and will happily divest themselves of the freedom of the press that they otherwise so jealously guard in order to avoid doing so?

"UK press hold back in cartoon row," from The Guardian, with thanks to JE:

None of the UK national daily newspapers today published the Danish cartoons depicting the prophet Muhammad that have caused such outrage among Muslims.

The Daily Telegraph and the Sun did publish a picture of the front page of Wednesday's edition of France Soir, which featured one of the cartoons, but both blanked out the image of Muhammad....

Two other UK dailies, the Guardian and Times, printed links to websites where the controversial cartoons can be viewed.
The BBC, Channel 4 News, Five News and Sky News yesterday all featured shots of the France Soir front page.

irish tv refused to carry the cartoons, because they didnt want to endanger the lives of many Irish workers in the Middle East, working for charities and such like.

so, yes - afraid is the operative word.

IT IS BECAUSE THEY ARE AFRAID THAT THE PRESS HERE, INCLUDING THE bbc HAVE NOT PUBLISHED.

Let me prove it to you:

The BBC site states that the notion mohammad may have married a miss world contestant was in a written article in a fashion section of a publication in nigeria.

The bbc calls this art in its understated "moslem concerns over art" box.

I quote:
"2002: Nigerian journalist Isioma Daniel's article about Prophet and Miss World contestants sparks deadly riots"

However, these riots were organised weeks later by immans (who presumably don't read fashion sections!!) when rioters were bussed in to burn churches and schools and kill people. The BBC does not say this but knows it to be true.

The press in the UK, BEING COWARDS, asked students who studied with Isioma here to write their opinions.

You see, they wanted to say what an outrage the threats against her are but they wanted some young fresher journalist to do their dirty work so they could say that it was not the opinion of the paper but of the fellow student.

The press hoped to be able to sacrifice some new "baby" journalists.

Fortunately, the Preston Uni course seems to have taught these freshers the wisdom to say no.

I remember for certain that the Guardian was one of these papers. I think the Telegraph may have made similar requests.

This morning on Radio4 I have been told that they had on the guy behind the offensive, to some, jerry springer opera and aparantly he said that those cartoons should not have been published but his play was ok and any christian who watched it and was offended is stupid.

Well, guess he was to scared to say that moslems offended at those lame cartoons are stupid. Maybe he likes moslems because they hate christians as much as he does? Maybe the presenter on radio 4 didn't blast him for his remark because he hates christians as much as moslems do?

Apparently, the moslem speakers were saying cartoons are bad but they may inspire terrorists but that islam is peace...

Ha Ha

ISLAM (International Society of Lecherous Artist Murderers)

Despite the best efforts of the BBC they can't hide how stupid moslems are any more.

"We are a peaceful religion but if you print a cartoon 3 months we will kill you and anyone who looks like you...."

Its really scary... I heard a debate on bbcworld where a muslim british MP told a german editor that Great Britain were 20 years in front of the rest of Europe... means; so no one needs to portray mohammad here... what he of course meant was; now the rest of Europe will learn to be just as afraid as GB has been for the last 20 years.. IT SICKENS ME! Many danes like me feel beaten and lost... we have lost our ability to talk freely about certain things now.. Generation after generation fought for the freedom we have and now fear is taking over.. Well at least som positive news from the danish front: The most influential imams have finaly been exposed as the traitors they are; saying: "we want to end the crisis" on danish television and "continue the attacks" on arabic television. One famous imam (Abu Laban (Laban actually means 'troublemaker' in danish!!) has effectively destroyed himself! Politicians have decided to kick out all these islamofascists (the ones without citizenship! And the danish people have got a much clearer picture of this ideology of lies and hatred!

Solidarity from Greenland! A newspaper in the nothern island of Greenland (formally ruled by Denmark but with their own government)printed the cartoons. Out of a population of 55.000 eskimoes their is 1! - 1 muslim in Greenland.. he he he... he will for sure rock their boat! Boycut Greenland! We want an apology from the entire eskimo population! Also from the eskimos in Canada and Russia! Apologize now! All eskimos out of the Gaza strip! Burn Greenlands flag and condemn all the eskimos for their wrong doings!

Funny, they don't seem to have any trouble printing (and giving prizes to) cartoons like this: http://web.israelinsider.com/Articles/Diplomacy/3020.htm

So it all starts at 2!
"Demonstrators are set to gather at Regent's Park mosque in central London at 1400 GMT after Friday prayers and march to the Danish embassy in Sloane Street."

Ignorant Athiest:

It's always darkest before the dawn. The apparent spinelessness being shown by the US and the UK should be offset somewhat by their commitments in Afghanistan and Iraq, and pretty soon the "outraged Muslims" are going to run out of developed countries they can purchase goods from because of boycotts. I mean they can't purchase goods from Israel, any of the countries that are still part of the "Coalition", and now, any countries that have not taken action against publishers of the cartoons or issued apologies. What does that leave them with?

And then, there's the matter of foreign aid. Anyone want to bet how long it will be before the masses in Muslim countries refuse to accept aid from countries that are either occupying parts of Dar Al-Islam or have committed the "cartoon offense"? What, no Rudy Guillianis among them, you say?

DEMOCRACY -v- ISLAMIC INTOLERANCE

If Muslims are offended by the Danish cartoons, they shouldn't be living in the west. Nor should intolerant, oppressive, Islamic states be trying to dictate to democratic, civilised, sovereign nations.

As for those making death threats and calling these innocuous cartoons blasphemous - the western world isn't subject to sharia law and never will be.

However, this incident has proved one thing, which is that the majority of Muslims living in the west cannot and will not integrate... but should live in any Islamic state of their choosing.

When will we start fighting back?

I wonder, is this perhaps a case for the local treason laws to punish the muslims with danish citizenship who are responsible for this?

To Imli

I have heard 'treason laws' beeing mentioned in connection with the muslim group (Islamisk tros-samfund) who traveled around the middle east with fake pictures and lies and propaganda in a deliberate attempt to stir up hatred against the country that shelters them. Where did these pictures come from? Like the one where mohammad is a pig or hve sex with a dog?! And why did they tell muslims in the middle east that Jyllandsposten was owned by the government? They wont tell us and most of them have now seized talking with the press. They claim to represent 200.000 muslims in Denmark but in reality they have around 800 members - and the majority of muslims hate them for what they have done - many danes are now boycutting pizzaplaces and other muslim shops - local (and innocent) muslims are now feeling the revenge... If Islamisk Trossamfund cannot be evicted according to the laws of treason I dont know why we have these laws..

Ignorant atheist,
It is correct that ALL muslim shops are
boycotted. Until we start seeing signs that the
mythical "moderate muslim" exists, there are
no innocent muslims. Only innocent EX muslims.

The rest should be deported. Benes Decree, as
Hugh so patiently reminds us.

Jerusalem Posts, we have already started to fight back with the truth, just look at the growing success of the many abti-jihad websites such as Jihadwatch and Dihimmiwatch.

Millions of people come here for the truth and as the truth spreads the stage is being set for the subject of Islam to be honestly disused.

In my house we will be being Danish goods and if I could buy stock in the Danish newspapers I would.

Last night I did something that even for me was daring, but I was so inspired by the bravery of the Europeans, that I had to act (peacefully and lawfully); a group of us printed images of Mohammed and put them up near the 96th street Grand Mosque in New York.

I don't know how long they will stay up and we were very careful not to bee seen or cause a blatant confrontation, but let them riot and show their true mature.

Everyone all over the world should do the same I'm sure some of you have already done so.

God bless, we will win if we wake up and everyday more are awakened.

American

Out of my good nature I assume that moderate muslims are out there - I must admit that I did not hear from the the two entire days I discussed with muslims over the net (It was the usual answers: "you only say that because you dont know the real mohammad and Islam which is peace and harmoni" and next line "but we hope you get punished, we will kill all danes, burn your children etc" and these people usually claim a moral high ground!) anyway.. I assume that it is the radicals that are most loud in the debate and many 'moderates' never speaks up because of fear or simply because they are... well moderate.

my local paper has articles on the rage of muslims over these cartoons, but have not printed them yet. l have faxed them a letter of the right of freedom of expression, freedom of the press, etc. will see how if ever the respond. it was better when Conrad Black owned this paper! now owned by @$!$##$$ liberal!

http://www.ekstrabladet.dk/VisArtikel.iasp?PageID=329877

a little link to the fake report by danish muslims to the highest muslims authorities in the middle east (which started the international muslim-show which had already been a danish muslim-show for tree months!)... funny how it is ok to make and distribute pictures of mohammad having anaimalsex when you are a muslim... makes you wonder...

I reccomend pages 34-36 - have fun!

Its not true that the Mohammend cartoons are not being shown in the US.The NY Sun has published two of the cartoons. Fox News had two segments on the cartoon jihad and in one segment several of the cartoons were shown. The camera lingered on each image for several seconds so all could get a good look. Drudge also had one of the cartoons posted on his website.

They can hold back all they like, or, as even, the BBC is doing, organise the muslim demonstration to take place tomorrow in front of the Danish Embassy -- whatever they do,the cat is out of the bag, people can think for themselves.

For the BBC page that advertises the time and place of the demonstration (helpfully mentioning 'after prayer') see this URL: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4676524.stm

BBC Have your say has been up and down, mostly down, since breakfast. The last time I looked there were over 1100 recommendations to the leading comments calling for publication and upholding free speech.
This is the best the website can offer as of 3pm.

This sinking of the Arabia/Egypt Red Sea ferry is dreadfully sad http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/4676916.stm but I wonder how long before it is deemed to be punishment for not punishing the infidel cartoon publishers sufficiently harshly?

Planet Rock News at 3pm says that security outside the embassy is tight in preparation for the demonstration later this afternoon, and that there are fears that the demonstration will be hijacked by extremists.

Ignorant atheist: I'm sure you do feel lost, watching your country slip away. At least there are attempts to stop this.

The only way of course is to expel Moslems from Europe. Hopefully, that will begin sometime soon.

All this reminds me of a novel by Clifford Simak, "City": which covered about 1000 years into the future, with intelligent robots and dogs. But all this (and was good) was threatened by the inexorable rise of intelligent ants, who, worldwide, were undertaking a gigantic construction project. At the end of the novel, a robot seeks out his former master, now in a cryogenic state, wakes him and asks him how he, in his time, dealt with ants. The human answered: ant poison. That caused the robot to recoil in horror; an unacceptable solution even though their existence was threatened.

The novel is really quite beautiful; one of the best (and often overlooked) SF writers of the 1940s and 1950s.

I think his point resonantes very well today.

MOSLEMS AND IMMIGRATION IN THE US

While I agree that deportation might be a good thing in many instances, it will never happen on a mass scale. You have to confront the constitutional challenges, at least here in the US.

Some Moslems are helping in the war on terror. We won't deport those will we?

The more realistic solution, at least for us in the US, is to prevent further Moslem immigration. That would be a lot easier for congress as it has plenary power over immigration matters. As for “non-terrorist” lawful permanent residents or citizens of the US, I am afraid those will stay.

This sinking of the Arabia/Egypt Red Sea ferry is dreadfully sad

The dreadfully sad part gets its edge taken off when you learn the Egyptians have refused help from the Israeli Navy. They hate Jews more than they want to save lives--but we knew that already.

"Its not true that the Mohammend cartoons are not being shown in the US.The NY Sun has published two of the cartoons. ..."

The quite few exceptions prove the rule.

I recommend you check out Michelle Malkin's website for some examples of dhimmitude in the U.S. media on the subject of these cartoons.

" so befogged with Saidist nonsense that they cannot bear the idea of offending non-white, non-Christian, non-Westerners"

Saidist nonsense? Edward Said didn't invent PC Leftism. He simply used it to his advantage. Were PC Leftism not culturally dominant in the West, Saidism wouldn't have the legs it has. Someone else seems to be befogged...

Headline:

Wake Up and Smell the Coffee and Danish!

From the CNN website today:

CNN has chosen to not show the cartoons out of respect for Islam.
Does anyone have any examples of cartoons that insult Christianity or any other faith that CNN has published in the past? I just want to expose the hypocrisy of this statement by CNN and to support my argument that they are not showing the cartoons of Mohamet because they are engaging in self-censorship out of fear.

I am not really in favour of repatriation, ethnic cleanising isn't my thing, know what I mean?

And a lot of MM's are sort of caught up in this as well, because they will be the first to be on the fundametalist's receiving end.

And Islam's victims in the majority are... muslims.

So... let's hope that the cat who escaped the politcally correct bag will catch the real rats.

Imli-

Thanks for the laugh!

I prefer the candy-coated M & M's though.

At least they don't choke you when you bite them gently. (With a little cartoon comedy.)

And are sweet, after all.

My advice to you and all the other "MM"'s.

Just bail out of this warlord's cult!

It's going down under the weight of its own intolerant imbecility.

But what else could you expect from people who would blindly follow a pedophile tyrant?

May a quadrillion caricatures bloom!

LiberalNotQuisling,
Have you been there? It was a bit of a downer...:-( No Danish flags or anti-slogans in support of Denmark. Do you know what the thugs on the other side of the road were chanting? And what did it say on the flags? I went to the Embassy entrance hoping to get some flags but the police stopped me. It seemed to me that there were only reporters (many of them from Muslim countries!) outside the Embassy. Unfortunately I wasn't able to stay longer than some 40 minutes (extended lunch-break) so not sure what happened afterwards. It is such a pity that all "the Danes" (as you said we all are) were not able to organize some sort of demonstration of support with boards and Danish flags. I do not think the Embassy got impressions that many people outside were standing up for them....what do you think? what were your observations?

Yes Pepper,

Someone else is befogged, and it is you. For under both your previous name (probably) and this one, you persist in taking statements by Hugh and by me as something they are not ever intended to be. You think we are continually making exhaustive and comprehensive analyses of our current cultural malady when actually we are just pointing out yet another secondary cause.

This is not the time or place for exhaustive analyses. The only thing exhausting here is your continuous misapprehension.

I found this gem on Asiatimes.com. http://atimes.com/atimes/Front_Page/HB04Aa01.html

In his article the author argues that there have to be limits to freedom of speech; making the analogy to yelling fire in a movie theater; that the "West" has gone much too far. It is amazing how Islam cannot be criticized because it is so "scared". Humourous.

From The Daily Telegraph:

"Demonstrators in London have begun gathering at Regent's Park mosque following Friday prayers. They plan to march to the Danish embassy in Sloane Street.

The protesters held placards, one declaring: "Behead the one who insults the prophet." Another said: "Free speech go to hell."

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2006/02/03/ucartoon.xml&sSheet=/portal/2006/02/03/ixportaltop.html

Jack the Man of Straw showed his lack of spine yet again!

"He said most Muslims believed Mohammed’s teachings were primarily about living in peace and harmony with the rest of the world. So to depict him as a terrorist with a bomb for a turban, as in one of the cartoons, was deeply distressing for Muslims.

He said: "Our own claim to be Muslim depends on our love and respect for the Prophet. If our love and respect is not of the highest level, we are only partly on our way to attaining God’s pleasure."

But he urged Muslims not to over-react.

"We must today stick to our own lives as Muslims as to how much we uphold the teachings of this great person who was a source of guidance and goodness and mercy to this world. Many times we forget some very important things he taught us.

"The Messenger said we must love our neighbour, we must do unto others what we want done unto ourselves, we must care for the poor and needy, we must stand up for justice, we must stand against oppression, we must be honest in our dealings, we must not cheat, lie or swear."

He said every Muslim should be aware of these commands, every moment of the day. "This is where the true test lies. If we love Mohammed and we love our God, we will do our very best to carry out these teachings in our lives.

"Islam is a positive force in our country. It is not something we should be afraid of or alarmed by. I would say Islam is for Britain a welcome thing, but we Muslims have to ensure we live like Muslims, that we live and breathe Islam."

This in my opinion is a clear incitement to religious violence - see the placards:

Let's show them that Brits who love liberty (and whose fathers died in huge numbers for that liberty) that we are not doormats.

All victims of islamofascism should come. Even lefties who actually believe in women's rights, gay rights, etc.

US blasts cartoons of Prophet Mohammed
Feb 03 11:11 AM US/Eastern

The United States blasted the publication by European newspapers of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed as unacceptable incitement to religious or ethnic hatred.

"These cartoons are indeed offensive to the beliefs of Muslims," State Department spokesman Justin Higgins said when queried about the furore sparked by the cartoons which first appeared in a Danish newspaper.

"We all fully recognize and respect freedom of the press and expression but it must be coupled with press responsibility," Higgins told AFP.

"Inciting religious or ethnic hatreds in this manner is not acceptable. We call for tolerance and respect for all communities and for their religious beliefs and practices."

The cartoons have caused an international furore, with protests in many Muslim nations and from Muslim political leaders.

While many European newspapers have turned the publication into a free speech debate no major US newspaper has published the cartoons.

Polish Infideless said

"Islam is a positive force in our country. It is not something we should be afraid of or alarmed by. I would say Islam is for Britain a welcome thing, but we Muslims have to ensure we live like Muslims, that we live and breathe Islam."

Unfortunately, it seems as if our leaders have forgotten that Bin Laden, Zarqawi, Zawahri, Ahmadinejad and their ilk live like Muslims, and live and breathe Islam

hammerhead,
The State Department doesn't speak for me.
Mohammad be damned.

Here are some of the banners carried by British muslims in the London protest march:

"Massacre those who insult islam"

"Europe: Your 9/11 will come"

"Free speech go to hell"

"Behead the one who insults the prophet"

"BBC = British Blasphemic Corporation" (eh?)

The poor, misunderstood darlings. :(

Hopefully the entire world will fall on its ass tomorrow.
Danish secular/moderate muslims are scheduled to meet, discuss and vocalize, in a press-conference, their support and defense of Denmark and freedom of speech.
The long term goal of the group is to create a "Danish" kind of islam, based on Danish values and ethics.
Atleast, that's what's been said thus far. I hope they stick to it, and that the international media covers it and EMPHAZISES the good these cartoons have done.

Do you have links for that information?

Mohammad's policy, and Islamic policy, for dealing with free expression that dares to be critical of Islam. Circulate widely. Great quotes.

see http://www.answering-islam.org/Muhammad/Enemies/index.html

http://answering-islam.org/Authors/Arlandson/free_speech.htm

http://answering-islam.org/Authors/Arlandson/dead_poets.htm

Because the Koran states that Mohammad is an example that (male) believers should emulate (33:21), the killing of critics and satirists of Islam is obligatory.

Spirit Of 1683, you have not by any horrible mistake thought that it was me who have said this??? I was quoting the Muslims!
LiberalNoQuisling, is there a proper pro-Danish demo tomorrow??? I do not understand your message.

Its okay Polish infideless, I know you were quoting the Muslims, and I was simply using that quote to make a point about the blindness of our leaders.

Spirit of 1683 - you are forgiven then ;-)
Anyway, are you the spirit of our brave king Jan III Sobieski?

LiberalNotQuisling, what time is it tomorrow???
Can we at last wave Danish flags? They would not let it today. By the way, have you seen the footage on BBC news tonight? On one hand incitement to violence and murder by the bloody Muslims and on the other hand the policeman ordering in a very dictatorial way this poor man, who had lost his temper and was trying to convey a few words of truth to those lunatic Muslims, back into his car!

UK Press people are cowards. It is sad to think about this 'land where the sun never sets' is passed on into the hands of back- boneless cowards.
O ! Land of Crudaders- where is your sons of valour, and bravery?.When they will get from deep slumber? Wake them up! It is time...The enemy is at your door step to devour your country, and your faith and your children. UK public-arise and overthrow !
Even when they call your beloved Queen Elzabeth as "an enemy,to be killed" your blood did not boil.It is too bad.

I'll have to wait unti Monday to call the State Department.

It is this kind of blanket claim that infuriates me. No rational person who has actually seen the original twelve drawings would state:

"These cartoons are indeed offensive to the beliefs of Muslims,..."

WTFO? A kid at a blackboard stating that "Jyllands-Posten journalists are a bunch of reactionary provacateurs" is offensive to Muslims? How so? And how does the one that says "PR STUNT" offend Muslims? Neither depicts Mohammad, and both were submitted in protest.

And it's not just our State Department that keeps perpetuating that nonsense. Reporters do it. Talk show hosts do it. Politicians do it. Bloggers do it.

There are twelve drawings. Five are not even of Mohammad. One of the five says, in Danish, "Prophet. Daft and dumb! Keeping women under thumb!" The "lineup" drawing says "Sorry, I can't identify him." And one of the seven was so benign, that any reference to it being offensive is by people who either haven't seen the drawings or are just plainly stupid.

How many times are we going to hear:

The cartoon...(singular)

Out of respect for Muslim sensibilties,...(while we watch the protesters with their signs in London)

Muslims believe...(without mentioning that non-Muslims aren't required to play along)

And the increasingly popular, "We have decided not to publish these offensive drawings, because..."

With all of the information that is available on the internet, there just isn't any excuse for perpetuating easily refutable misinformation.

I'm becoming ill.

PRCS,

very good point.

Lets all ask the BBC, and the rest why don't they publish all the cartoons that do not contain mo?

Very good question.

Afterall, whose sensibilities could that possibly hurt?

If the Muslim countries ban the product of Denmark, and West,we must do the same. NO MORE IMMIGRATION OF ANY TROUBLE MAKING MUSLIMS INTO OUR COUNTRIES. TEHY ARE LAZY, A STRAIN ,AND BURDON TO OUR ECONOMY,AND A UNWANTED TERROR . WE CAN GET FAITHFUL.HARDWORKING CHINESE,EAST EUROPEONS,AND OTHER CHRISTIANS. BOYCOT MUSLIMS,AND THEIR BUSINESSES.
