Tehran, Iran, Feb. 28 – The United States and Britain are illegally smuggling arms into the Islamic Republic via its western neighbour Iraq in a bid to destabilise the Islamic Republic, Iran’s police chief said on Tuesday.“100 percent of all illegal arms, alcohol, and unethical items enter onto Iranian soil via Iraq”, Brigadier General Ismaeil Ahmadi-Moqaddam told reporters.
“The entry of illegal weapons into the country is a completely organised enterprise by the big powers based in Iraq”, Ahmadi-Moqaddam said.

Would that it were true. Would that the Kurds in northern Iraq were being supplied with American arms to deliver to fellow Kurds in Iran (and Syria). Would that arms were being shipped to the Azeris in northern Iran (but with a little quid-pro-quo from Azerbaijan about Nagorno-Karabakh). Would that arms were being shipped to the Baluchis so that they might rise up against their Persian mullah-masters. Would that even the Arabs of Khuzistan were to be supplied with, not arms (they can get those from elsewhere) but with radio broadcasts, unattributable, suggesting that the "oil is yours, under your soil" and that Arab resentments of Iranian control, could not merely simmer, but brought to a steady boil.
But are these things happening? I'm not at all surprised that we're doing it (after all, it is the logical solution to the problem with Iran), but I'm amazed that word of it isn't coming from a leak within our own government. I was briefly puzzled at the number of US leaks being published in overseas newspapers, until I realized that a foriegn court is much less likely to punish a foreign journalist in order to make them divulge their source than an American court is with an American journalist.
