CAIR's initiative, details of which will be announced at the news conference, was prompted by the worldwide controversy over caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad and is designed to turn a negative incident into a positive learning opportunity.
"People of all faiths in the West and in the Muslim world can either succumb to a downward spiral of mutual mistrust and hostility or they can view this disturbing episode as a 'teaching moment' that should not be wasted," said CAIR Board Chairman Parvez Ahmed.
Following similar international protests over claims that American personnel had desecrated the Quran at Guantanamo Bay's Camp X-Ray, CAIR launched an "Explore the Quran" campaign offering free copies of the holy text to Americans of all faiths. To date, more than 27,000 Qurans have been requested through that campaign.
CAIR, America's largest Muslim civil liberties group, has 31 offices and chapters nationwide and in Canada. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.

If more people learn about the life of Muhammad we'll all be better off. Let them learn about his "marriage" to 9-year-old Aisha. Let them learn about his call to assassinate poets who dared to mock him with their words. Let them learn about his directive to massacre 800 unarmed men and boys of the Banu Qurayza and to distribute their daughters and wives as booty to those who murdered their fathers, brothers and husbands. I always loved Hagar (although Mr. Payne seems to remember him being fatter than I do) and I'd like to see other more mainstream cartoonists weighing into this. We always thought John Callahan was prepared to offend anybody, here's our chance to find out.
Who wouldn't get a dry smile from seeking how the Spook from the "Wizard of Id" fares under sharia law? Perhaps "Blondie" in a Burqua, Dagwood on hand to dispense beatings for disobedience? Didn't "Crock" sometimes feature Muslims (as such).
Personally, I'd like to see the characters from "B.C." standing around laughing at how primative Islam is.
Whatever the case, I'm sure the Islamic world could inspire a very different version of "Love Is."

"Muslims believe that the Zimmis are Mushrikun (polytheists) for they see the belief in the Trinity as belief in three gods. Islam is the only true religion, they claim. Therefore, to protect Muslims from corruption, especially against the unforgivable sin of shirk (polytheism), its practice is forbidden among Muslims, because it is considered the greatest abomination. When Christians practice it publicly, it becomes an enticement and exhortation to apostasy. It is significant here to notice that according to Muraghi, Zimmis and infidels are polytheists and therefore, must have the same treatment.
According to Muslim jurists, the following legal ordinances must be enforced on Zimmis (Christians and Jews alike) who reside among Muslims:

4)Zimmis are not allowed to install the cross on their houses or churches since it is a symbol of infidelity.
5)Zimmis are not permitted to broadcast or display their ceremonial religious rituals on radio or television or to use the media or to publish any picture of their religious ceremonies in newspaper and magazines.
6)Zimmis are not allowed to congregate in the streets during their religious festivals; rather, each must quietly make his way to his church or temple.

I have an article By Mark Steyn from the Wall Street Journal (somewhere) that says all that about demography: that we will ALL soon be outnumbered. She was right about that!
Her big mistake was connecting it to the abortion pill debate.(innapproriate) And although many must have deep, down agreed with Ms Vale they were not going to do it in public.

A left wing cartoonist who always offends Israel, The US, and the Jews, was most upset as someone sent one of his lovely holocaust cartoons to an Iranian newspaper. He says he didn't do it. This cartoon was pulled from the paper in 2002 by his editor and now it is all over the net and on free-to-air channels!!
They are now tracking down those nasty people. It was good to see leunig squirm from one of his own cartoons (although misused).He is never really funny at all.
