A small step in the direction of common sense, following up on this story. From The Register, with thanks to Richard:
Yahoo! has reversed its decision to stop people registering Yahoo! IDs which include the letters "allah".The Reg was contacted yesterday by a reader - Ed Callahan - who was having trouble registering his mum - Linda Callahan - for a Verizon email address - provided through a Yahoo! portal.
But Yahoo! got in touch with us this morning to say it is now accepting Yahoo! identities which contain the letters "allah". The Callahans will be overjoyed.
Ah, all may now contact me through:
allahsucks@yahoo.com
Or:
"Fighting-the-Bazooka-Bopper-Burning-Rubber-Carburetors-Casino-Steel-Dirty-Callahans", as Judas Priest once put it.
Callahans ho Akbar
That is good news. Now poor allah can get an email.

Planned Exhibit of Cartoons Protested
The caricatures of Muhammad will be displayed at a UCI student forum. Muslims object, and university officials are wary.
Plans by a Republican student group at UC Irvine to showcase the controversial cartoons of the prophet Muhammad that led to violent protests around the world are drawing condemnation from Muslim groups and university officials.

A display of this sort dares to be mounted at UCI Irvine? The brand-new university, just a few decades old, built On the land "disinterestedly" donated by the Irvine Ranch people, who retained all the land around the campus, which land promptlly shot up in value, being highly desirable for faculty housing, etc., the whole transaction thus being a monument to corporate cleverness, while within, its history and literature or whatever they now call those departments hosting, or is it boasting, not a few ward-churchillians and gender-hegemony-postcolonial-discourse not-to-the-manner-but-very-much-to-the-career-born thrusting young faculty members? That UCI Irvine?
Good.
Allah, Allah, in come free.
Let`s go to yahoo and get some really nice allah monikers!

Allahmyfriendsdriveporches
Unfortunately someone can probably claim that as being true...
Well Allahbedamned it's about time. Yahoo!
Remember. Tomorrow, February 26. On February 26th, 1993, the WTC was bombed for the FIRST time.
"That UCI Irvine?"
Hope there's extra security in the event Ward Churchill shows up. That guy is a dangerous loon. For sport, he'd been e-mailing me threatening letters .. he stopped only when I told him in no uncertain terms to do so .. or else the law would be called on him. For some reason, that outlaw abided. Maybe the penalty for harassment by e-mail is greater than for fake professors calling WTC victims 'little Eichmans" and hatching conspiracy plots in lieu of educating UCI's poor young inmates. On the other hand, it looks like the more savvy students have used their oppressive environment well by striking a true blue blow for freedom! Good luck to them. I'll pray for their safety.

Yahoo and another server have behaved disgracefully by censoring themselves to gain access to the 1.3 billion Red China market. They have eliminated any search words inimical to the ChiComs. This is outrageous because the internet can be an agent for penetrating the walls of totalitarian states with the free exchange of ideas and thought and spread democratic concepts among an isolated and oppressed population. But the opportunity to cash in by adandoning principles is more important. This would be analogous to a private broadcaster during the Cold War refusing to transmit news that was offensive to the Soviet Union.
"This would be analogous to a private broadcaster during the Cold War refusing to transmit news that was offensive to the Soviet Union."
Good point, Topdog. It would also be analogous to the MSMs refusal to reprint the Mohammed cartoons out of 'sensitivity' to Muslim sensibilities. Hate to see the internet go the way of the MSM.
