But on November 8, 2005, the London daily Al-Sharq Al-Awsat reported: "The Global Islamic Media Front has threatened [the West] on the Internet by means of its new soldier, whom it calls Rakan Ben Williams, and whom it claims is a white Englishman who converted to Islam." [2]
Also, on November 24, 2005, the GIMF posted on the Islamic websites a similar warning, under the same name, that included an explicit threat to assassinate Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, Australian Prime Minister John Howard, Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, British Prime Minister Tony Blair, and U.S. President George W. Bush, when the time comes, with a clear mention of the possibility of doing so after they complete their current terms of office. Although this communiqué was directed to these leaders, it noted that it referred to all Western leaders, and included special mention of Berlusconi. At its conclusion, the communiqué said that it had been written by "the one who thirsts for the blood of the Crusaders, the secret soldier of Al-Qaeda, Rakan Ben Williams, Italy (the Vatican)." [3]
In the following warning, Rakan Ben Williams warns that, unlike after the 9/11, Madrid, and London attacks, which are still being investigated, "[after] the coming attack there will be no one to analyze and investigate, because the mind and the heart will be unable to comprehend it… This will not be a single operation", the report added, "but two; one bigger than the other, but we will begin with the big one and postpone the bigger one, in order to see [how] diligent the American people is [in preserving] its life. If it chooses life, [it must] carry out the demands of the Muslims, and if it chooses death, then we are its best perpetrators." The warning appeared in Arabic and in English.

It's still scary stuff. And today, I was coming home from Detroit back to Canada. When I was waiting in line to enter the tunnel, a middle-eastern looking man and a woman in burka walked accross the toll plaza and toward the Homeland Security office. That is absolutely *never* done. I don't think I have ever seen people walking toward that office.
Immediately, the American immigration /security booths were closed and armed men ran out of the office toward them. No idea how long the American side of the tunnel was closed, but it certainly caught my attention, and I was happy to finally get to drive through into the tunnel.

Everyone should be racking his brain trying to think of ways to soak up oil revenues that otherwise are used to fund mosques, madrasas, propaganda, to buy up Western businesses (and thus the support of employees and politicians, and gain further entry -- "l'entrisme" -- into the Lands of the Infidels).
One way may be something like this insurance policy suggestion. The Al-Saud family wants to make sure it will be rescued, in case of need? Then an insurance policy may be just the ticket. After all, whatever bases the Americans have been allowed to use in Kuwait (Camp Victory) and Qatar, and whatever use of port facilities that the U.A.E. has permitted, has been done only out of self-interest, and not because any of these countries are, or ever could be be -- whatever Bush hallucinates about -- allies. Qatar and Kuwait and the U.A.E. fear Iran, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia. And that is the only reason for such cooperation.
The Americans do not know how to bargain hard. They can let Kuwait, and Qatar, and the U.A.E. know, that they need more than bases. They need money, and if those countries, or rather if the Al-Sabah and Al-Thani and the assorted Al-Maktoum sheiks of Abu Dhabi and Dubai and the other five constituent sheikdoms of the U.A.E. want permanent protection from the Americans, they will have to pay.

Thanks for that link. 'Rakan Ben Williams' does indeed appear to be a fictional name and a fictional character. This supposed "white Englishman" raised in the west sounds or reads so much like someone who (a) is using English as a second-language, and (b) makes word and phrasing-choices evocative of English-language Korans and English-language translations of Al-Qaeda statements.
This writer (or writers) is almost certainly not a native Englishman, but is an English-as-second-language Islamist trying to distract us and waste our time. At the same time, it is perhaps a lame attempt to give the Islamist movement credibility in the eyes of angry young Muslim males who know English only as a second language.

I guess my point is that, although this "Rakan Ben Williams" (is the name some kind of play on "Osama bin Laden"?) appears to be fictional, it also appears that the real author of the letter was unable to recruit a genuine English editor.

I do worry about them, but I bring him up to raise the point that much of the rhetoric we see coming out of the UK sounds a lot like his. Appeasement to the Muslims, America and Israel are the true enemy. It is very telling how the left, liberals and communists are laying in bed with the Islamists.
When you look at the political slant of the media outlets from the UK, many are pro-Islamist, this is hardly surprising when you consider the demographic makeup of the UK. In a time of war such as this though where are the politicians standing up and saying that Islam is the enemy.
Why isn’t Al-beeb reporting this Raken Ben Williams story, my point is that the rhetoric coming from the UK is sounding very weak, no matter which politician it is coming from.
In light of the proposed threat my solution is we have to roll with what they throw at us and if they do try anything, we should act. My calculation is they will not get much better than the SUV driver the other day, it will not be Armageddon type casualties, but it might give us a bloody nose. However this action should be seen for what it is an act of war and the appropriate response taken. We should have done this with the Embassy burnings and the SUV attack.
We work through the responses in phases, but we need to be ready at every stage to move the US and Europe into successively higher war footings. We need look no further than WWII as our yardstick all the precedents were set then about what and were not acceptable for war.

The current consensus Ali is that the Koran allows killing of the unbeliever, (I leave it to my good friend Archimedes to come up with some juicy quotes, he always seems to have them to hand). The issue here is that although some groups may wish to take a more allegorical than literal approach to the Islamic holy book it doesn’t get around the fact that the words are still written the way they are and could be interpreted by those who wish to do so in their more literal sense.
Your argument that some people are just misinterpreting the Koran could just as easily be used against you. Until this catch 22 is resolved, we need to keep a very safe distance from going blindly down the path of accepting Islam as it is.

Muhammad's life can be divided into two parts - the tolerant years in Mecca and the aggressive years in Medina. The Quran reflects those TWO parts, and that is why at times someone will point out a teaching in the Quran that seems to indicate that Islam teaches its adherents to live at peace with their enemies. When Muhammad began to preach his revelations from Allah to the people, he believed that a peaceful religion was a good strategy for attracting people, especially the Jewish people, to the teachings of Islam.
When Muhammad saw that his attempts to win over the Jews through peaceful coexistence were not successful, he "launched a new strategy, a strategy based on power. This is when he declared jihad (holy war) and went out to convert non believers to Islam by the sword." Muslims today are taught to interrupt the Quran through a principle of progressive revelation known as 'NASIKH'. Any contradiction in the Quran is solved by using the newest reveltion. If anyone denies the continuing revelation of Allah to Muhammad, they are denying Islam itself.
And I would also like to add two passages from the Quran:
"Fight and slay the Pagans wherever you find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every strategem of war."
-Surah 9:5
"The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger, and strive with might and main for mischief through the land is: execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides, or exile from the land: that is their disgrace in this world, and a heavy punishment is theirs in the Hereafter."

So I'm not quite sure where you came up with the idea that the Quran "forbids killing anyone", because as you can see - it encoures killing. And not just any kind of killing, but dismemberment!

195. And spend in the Cause of Allâh (i.e. Jihâd of all kinds, etc.) and do not throw yourselves into destruction (by not spending your wealth in the Cause of Allâh), and do good. Truly, Allâh loves Al-Muhsinûn (the good-doers)."
[Fight them, killing them, until there is no more fitnah, where the category fitnah includes disbelief/polytheism, presence of disbelievers (8:73), etc. Also compare 2:193 with 8:39; they are basically the same sentiment]
8:39. "And fight them until there is no more Fitnah (disbelief and polytheism: i.e. worshipping others besides Allâh) and the religion (worship) will all be for Allâh Alone [in the whole of the world]. But if they cease (worshipping others besides Allâh), then certainly, Allâh is All-Seer of what they do."
[Note: That remark about "in the whole of the world" is added by the author of the Noble Qur'an. Keep in mind that Islam is a mission to all mankind 34:28, and Islam's mission is to conquer all other religions, 9:33, 48:28, 61:9]
Next, 33:60-62 says that those who spread false news, stirring trouble and sedition against Islam (e.g., by criticising or mocking Islam, thereby upsetting Muslims or insulting their prophet) will be summarily executed:
33:60. "If the hypocrites, and those in whose hearts is a disease (evil desire for adultery, etc.), and those who spread false news among the people in AlMadinah, cease not, We shall certainly let you overpower them, then they will not be able to stay in it as your neighbours but a little while.
61. Accursed, wherever found, they shall be seized and killed with a (terrible) slaughter.
62. That was the Way of Allâh in the case of those who passed away of old, and you will not find any change in the Way of Allâh."
[That last statement makes it clear: This rule applies for all time].
Allah not only approves of killing disbelievers, but he goes further and says they should go kill themselves if they don't want Mohammad to succeed in conquering the world (i.e., if they oppose Islam and its goals):
22:15. “Whoever thinks that Allâh will not help him (Muhammad SAW) in this world and in the Hereafter, let him stretch out a rope to the ceiling and let him strangle himself. Then let him see whether his plan will remove that whereat he rages!”
Tafsir confirms that this verse really does say “go hang yourself” (if you oppose Mohammad and his goals). Some translations say cut himself off (means sever his soul from the body and the earth), but this still means kill himself.
Here are a few more:
[Shakir 47:4] “So when you meet in battle those who disbelieve, then smite the necks until when you have overcome them, then make (them) prisoners, and afterwards either set them free as a favor or let them ransom (themselves) until the war terminates. That (shall be so); and if Allah had pleased He would certainly have exacted what is due from them, but that He may try some of you by means of others; and (as for) those who are slain in the way of Allah, He will by no means allow their deeds to perish.”
33:26 YUSUFALI: And those of the People of the Book who aided them - Allah did take them down from their strongholds and cast terror into their hearts. (So that) some ye slew, and some ye made prisoners.
[Shakir 8:12] “When your Lord revealed to the angels: I am with you, therefore make firm those who believe. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them.”
9:111. Verily, Allâh has purchased of the believers their lives and their properties; for the price that theirs shall be the Paradise. They fight in Allâh's Cause, so they kill (others) and are killed. It is a promise in truth which is binding on Him in the Taurât (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel) and the Qur'ân. And who is truer to his covenant than Allâh? Then rejoice in the bargain which you have concluded. That is the supreme success.
9:12. "But if they violate their oaths after their covenant, and attack your religion with disapproval and criticism then fight (you) the leaders of disbelief (chiefs of Quraish - pagans of Makkah) - for surely their oaths are nothing to them - so that they may stop (evil actions).
13. Will you not fight a people who have violated their oaths (pagans of Makkah) and intended to expel the Messenger, while they did attack you first? Do you fear them? Allâh has more right that you should fear Him, if you are believers.
14. Fight against them so that Allâh will punish them by your hands and disgrace them and give you victory over them and heal the breasts of a believing people,"
Muslims must be prepared and willing to kill themselves in Allah's Cause (and will receive the highest reward):
4:66. "And if We had ordered them (saying), "Kill yourselves (i.e. the innnocent ones kill the guilty ones) or leave your homes," very few of them would have done it; but if they had done what they were told, it would have been better for them, and would have strengthened their (Faith);
67. And indeed We should then have bestowed upon them a great reward from Ourselves.
68. And indeed We should have guided them to a Straight Way.
69. And whoso obeys Allâh and the Messenger (Muhammad SAW), then they will be in the company of those on whom Allâh has bestowed His Grace, of the Prophets, the Siddiqûn (those followers of the Prophets who were first and foremost to believe in them, like Abu Bakr AsSiddiq radhiallahu'anhu), the martyrs, and the righteous. And how excellent these companions are!
70. Such is the Bounty from Allâh, and Allâh is Sufficient as AllKnower.
71. O you who believe! Take your precautions, and either go forth (on an expedition) in parties, or go forth all together.
72. There is certainly among you he who would linger behind (from fighting in Allâh's Cause). If a misfortune befalls you, he says, "Indeed Allâh has favoured me in that I was not present among them."
73. But if a bounty (victory and booty) comes to you from Allâh, he would surely say - as if there had never been ties of affection between you and him - "Oh! I wish I had been with them; then I would have achieved a great success ( a good share of booty)."
74. Let those (believers) who sell the life of this world for the Hereafter fight in the Cause of Allâh, and whoso fights in the Cause of Allâh, and is killed or gets victory, We shall bestow on him a great reward.
75. And what is wrong with you that you fight not in the Cause of Allâh, and for those weak, illtreated and oppressed among men, women, and children, whose cry is: "Our Lord! Rescue us from this town whose people are oppressors; and raise for us from You one who will protect, and raise for us from You one who will help."
76. Those who believe, fight in the Cause of Allâh, and those who disbelieve, fight in the cause of Tâghût (Satan, etc.).[] So fight you against the friends of Shaitân (Satan); Ever feeble indeed is the plot of Shaitân (Satan).
77. Have you not seen those who were told to hold back their hands (from fighting) and perform As-Salât (IqâmatasSalât), and give Zakât, but when the fighting was ordained for them, behold! a section of them fear men as they fear Allâh or even more. They say: "Our Lord! Why have you ordained for us fighting? Would that you had granted us respite for a short period?" Say: "Short is the enjoyment of this world. The Hereafter is (far) better for him who fears Allâh, and you shall not be dealt with unjustly even equal to the Fatilâ (a scalish thread in the long slit of a datestone).
78. "Wheresoever you may be, death will overtake you even if you are in fortresses built up strong and high!" And if some good reaches them, they say, "This is from Allâh," but if some evil befalls them, they say, "This is from you (O Muhammad SAW)." Say: "All things are from Allâh," so what is wrong with these people that they fail to understand any word?"

Sahih Bukhari Volume 1, Book 3, Number 125: Narrated Abu Musa: A man came to the Prophet and asked, "O Allah's Apostle! What kind of fighting is in Allah's cause? (I ask this), for some of us fight because of being enraged and angry and some for the sake of his pride and haughtiness." The Prophet raised his head (as the questioner was standing) and said, "He who fights so that Allah's Word (Islam) should be superior, then he fights in Allah's cause."
Sahih Muslim, Book 020, Number 4684 (also 4685, 4686, 4687):
It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Musa Ash'ari that a desert Arab came to the Holy Prophet (may peace be upon him) and said: Messenger of Allah, one man fights fgr the spoils of war; another fights that he may be remembered, and another fights that he may see his (high) position (achieved as a result of his valour in fighting). Which of these is fighting in the cause of God? The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: Who fights so that the word of Allah is exalted is fighting in the way of Allah.

Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 2, Number 35: Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "The person who participates in (Holy battles) in Allah's cause and nothing compels him to do so except belief in Allah and His Apostles, will be recompensed by Allah either with a reward, or booty (if he survives) or will be admitted to Paradise (if he is killed in the battle as a martyr). Had I not found it difficult for my followers, then I would not remain behind any sariya going for Jihad and I would have loved to be martyred in Allah's cause and then made alive, and then martyred and then made alive, and then again martyred in His cause."
Sahih Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 53, Number 352: Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "Allah guarantees him who strives in His Cause and whose motivation for going out is nothing but Jihad in His Cause and belief in His Word, that He will admit him into Paradise (if martyred) or bring him back to his dwelling place, whence he has come out, with what he gains of reward and booty."

As thorough as ever, I am putting that post aside for use in further transcripts, your analysis is also much appreciated.
I had an interesting discussion yesterday from someone who had just served in Iraq. This was a boots on the ground soldier and his insights were very useful. His take was that in the long run to win requires the majority of Mohammedans to accept separation of church and state, his opinion was that Shia Islam provided the best avenue for doing this.
However he conceded that it would be very difficult due to the tribal nature of the peoples to get them to accept doctrinal changes to the Koran. This conversation left me both encouraged and discouraged especially as interventionist Shia Islam is driving the politics of Iran. It seems to me that he is either familiar with his Koran and is lying to us (in which case he may be a very devout and good Muslim to other Muslims -- but a horrible Muslim if you're an infidel...) or he's utterly ignorant about Islam, as you have proved.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that once a person is offered the revelation of Islam, and then chooses to remain ignorant of that revelation, one is an apostate. Also, persons who sincerely put forth lies or ignorant versions of Allah's will are committing a grievous crime in Islam, and must be punished SEVERELY. Does his post, if he's simply ignorant, rise to the level of apostacy in your opinion?

Hey -- maybe this Islam thing isn't so bad after all -- if we can limit the Sharia to Muslims only as many of them propose in the West, and then use that same Sharia to prove they're all apostates -- then wouldn't that allow a pretty effective way of "dealing" with them? After all -- it's their rule set... and they are asking to be allowed to live by those rules in our midst...

No, I don't think so. The apostate is someone who genuinely believes, but then loses that belief or transgresses in some significant way (and then refuses to repent). (You may be thinking of the offer of Islam to non-Muslim which, if refused, is punished with either subjugation (dhimmitude) or death?)

Those who "hide scripture" or blaspheme can of course be punished severely. Many of these issues are disputed due to the ambiguity of the Koran. But unorthodox interpretations can land a Muslim in trouble in Iran or Saudi Arabia, where the authorities have the power to enforce their interpretation of the Koran. For example, one socially progressive cleric-scholar in Iran was going to be sentenced to death for saying the wearing of the hijab was not mandatory according to his interpretation of the Koran. (The authorities actually classified this as "War against God" and "corruption on earth", which receive the death penalty). But from the examples I've read about from the Hadith and Sira, Mohammad generally doesn't kill anyone except non-Muslims and apostates. (I think there were a couple of exceptions, but that's all).

I don't think so, but people like Abu Hamza would be calling him a hypocrite. But Muslims are given opportunities to repent.
Intersectarian differences are another matter. As you know, the orthodox Sunni and Shia generally each other to be heretics and apostates/hypocrites, and you know what they do to each other.
I guess what bugs me the most about apologists like Ali is that so many non-Muslims, in the interest of tolerance, want to believe them.

Archimedes - I'll lay off it now, seriously. No doubt it is annoying. But this image got formed in my mind a while back and it was hard to shake. I will always think of you now as "Sir Archimedes" for the reasons I stated :-)
Of course it IS in fact true that you are always the one who rides in here with all the ammunition for the Usual Arguments and Counterarguments. It is utterly invaluable for the site but it must also get very tiring for you! I think the website idea is terrific. You can create an archive of the same old same old and simply create a link to the requisite arguments in lieu of having to continuously start from scratch each and every time these same old arguments come up here. It's a terrific idea and if you manage to pull it off I will be very excited to see it!

Something's definitely got to be done about that regime in Iran. I don't know enough about it to give you an intelligent answer, but one thing has been in the back of my mind, which is that a majority or near-majority of Iranians actually do not want that regime. They hate it. There's the mad mullahs, and then there's Amedinejad, and neither are liked by over half of the Iranians. Surely something can be done with this significant opposition within Iran? Exactly what, I'm not sure.
