Clarke criticises Danish 'mistake' over cartoons

Britain's Home Secretary criticizes Denmark's Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen for not throwing freedom of speech overboard and rushing into dhimmitude. From The Guardian, with thanks to Sr. Soph:

The British government has accused its Danish counterparts of making "a serious mistake" in the way it handled relations with Muslim countries after the publication of cartoons depicting the prophet Muhammad.

The home secretary, Charles Clarke, criticised the decision by the Danish prime minister, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, to snub a request from 11 Muslim countries for a meeting after the cartoons were published in the Jyllands Posten newspaper in September.

Mr Clarke told a public meeting in Willesden Green - primarily held to discuss law and order issues - that Mr Rasmussen had not even responded to the request.

Admitting it was a "political point", Mr Clarke said: "I think that was a serious mistake which you could not imagine happening in other countries ... certainly not in this country. It is a question of respecting others, and that means do not provoke or challenge the deeply-held views of others."

His comments appeared to contradict Downing Street's supportive line towards the Danish government.

The prime minister, Tony Blair, last month said it was important to be seen be standing alongside Denmark following worldwide protests and riots over the cartoons last month.

The foreign secretary, Jack Straw, said he had never, and nor would he, criticise the Danish government.

However, it appears government officials hold private misgivings about the Danish failure to restore relations with the Muslim world last autumn. Mr Straw's office this morning said Mr Clarke's comments chimed with his own views.

Straw is a weasle who relies on Muslim votes for his parliamentary seat and a friend of Iran (well so he thinks)

Clarke is a bully who in his pursuit of the terrorists is doing their work for them by limiting and taking away our freedoms.

"Mr Clarke told a public meeting in Willesden Green - primarily held to discuss law and order issues - that Mr Rasmussen had not even responded to the request."

So Mr. Clarke simply doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. It's lovely how misinformation is being spread by officials all over the world(incl. Denmark).
Anders Fogh Rasmussen DID respond to the god damned ambassadors. Maybe I should send that moron a copy of the PMs letter...

I wouldn't be surprised if those two sold their own mothers just to look good to the Arab eye.

Unfortunately this sort of behaviour is widespread in Europe. I wonder how many politicians are on the Arab pay-roll? I know of a (formerly wise centre-right) Portuguese political commentator that is now following orders from his Arab masters. Recently he adopted an extreme-left speech concerning "Israel's crimes" in a debate about the Danish cartoons, Islam and Palestine.

In terms of Muslims expansion, my country is not important:

- it is poorer than most countries in Western Europe (no significant social security freebees for parasites)
- the Muslim community is still too small to be vocal (for the most part, African and unneducated thus unappealing in any attempt of conversion)
- my country has a minimal political power within the EU, which make it a lesser target

Now, my point is the following: if the Arabs have bothered to use their oil-tainted thirty pieces of silver to bribe a few Judas over here, I wonder what the situation is in countries like Britain, France, Germany, Holland, Denmark, Italy and Spain. On a slightly diferent sidenote, there are even rumours that Charles (the future Charles III of England) converted to Islam. These are sad days, when the common folk has more common sense than the donkeys that decide their future.

Charles Clarke is a mental Pygmie.

The British government has accused its Danish counterparts of making "a serious mistake" in the way it handled relations with Muslim countries after the publication of cartoons depicting the prophet Muhammad.

Really?! Who is making a mistake you say? Those who fight for freedom and democracy or the ones trying to demolish it? Thank you Mr. Clarke for showing your true face..

I can not put into words what I feel, disgust, anger, hate and the profound need to apologise to my Danish brothers for this un-British like behaviour.

There was the need to hold back from publishing so as not to un-ravel some of the relationships that the US and UK have developed, which I sort of understood, however this is a step too far.

They have managed to make me truely ashamed to be British, a feeling I last had in the 70's, well done Mr Clarke and Mr Straw.

Talk about Lions being lead by Lambs, but I wish even this was true, I am begining to think its more like sheep being lead by lambs.

Maybe I haven't caught up yet? Are the democratic traditions of free speech evolving that fast?

When the Islamic world kicked their rampaging protests into high gear months after these cartoons where published, Denmark's Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen stated, and stood by the free world and democratic principles that the Jyllands Posten newspaper operated independent of the government and there was no censorship or control of what is printed short of yelling fire in the theatre. Now months later we see these British dhimmis trying to get Rasmussen to apologize for the independent newspaper in Denmark. Maybe it is not so far fetched a step to understand why, since the British believe in free speech and freedom of the press, however their largest media operation, the BBC is financially supported by the British Government and maybe that is where the rub is on these ignoramuses.

Slightly off-topic: any JW/DWers in Toronto attending the pro-Denmark rally this Saturday at noon in front of the Danish consolate?

Waterdragon: I will certainly be there. Can we find each other somehow?

I also apologise to Denmark for Clarke's behaviour, it makes me squirm.
We need British bulldogs not bloody lapdogs.
Where are the people with some brains and some guts to stand up to this most terrible and insidious threat to the world's future.

Well the reply I got from the Home Office last month when I wrote about the cartoon protesters who were calling for more tube bombs was laughable. This explains why.
I complained about feeling threatened with being murdered; I got a reply explaining that they recognise how hurt the Muslim community is. I'm not going down the route of complaining about how my complaint was dealt with, I'll leave that to my MP.
Willesden Green is a slightly surreal venue for such a statement; Neasden would have been better.
The man is a pillock. A prize pillock.

"In terms of Muslims expansion, my country [Portugal] is not important..."
-- from a posting above

At present that may be true. In the past, the Portuguese were instrumental in checking the expansion of Muslim power, through Muslim traders, in Asia, in Hindustan and points east.

Anders Fogh Rasmussen could well become the Churchill of our time.

It has been hard for him to be so politically correct as he has been over the past few months. It has been mistaken for dhimmitude - I think it isn't. He is the first politician I have heard actually mention 'Clash of civilizations' in this debate.

I think he won't bend his head a second time. He knows that this is war.

- I hope.

Granny:

Not that this is any reassurance, but whichever dorky civil servant was charged with responding to your letter clearly didn't understand what you were putting forward. (I deal with escalated complaints in a large life insurance company, most of which get passed on to me because front line staff are a bit thick.)

It is a question of respecting others, and that means do not provoke or challenge the deeply-held views of others.

Well, Mr. Clarke, what if those deeply-held views, even of religious faith of any faith, contradict established historical faith? Are we then not free to challenge such belief or are we to discard willfully the fact for superstition? These are questions that the proponent of any belief must confront, irrespective of the belief being scientific, religious or ideological.

Mohammed was a man, a historical figure, there is much written in religious and secular historical texts about his life and times, from both Islamic and non-Islamic sources. Jesus was a man, a historical figure, there is much written in religious and secular historical texts about his life and times, from both Christian and non-Christian sources.

It is more than a deeply held belief, it is the very foundation of Christianity itself, that Jesus was the son of God conceived of the Holy Spirit, arose from the dead and ascended into heaven. A Christian can offer no factual basis for this belief, I can't, even the Pope can't. But the belief endures despite factual evidence to the contrary that the corpus upon death begins to rot and decay, and in view of historical chronciles of the first century AD that depict Jesus in less than flattering light.

It is more than a deeply held belief, it is the very foundation of Islam itself, that Mohammed was a messenger of Allah, the perfect man for all time. A Moslem can offer no factual basis for this belief, I can't, even the head of the al-Anzar ISslamic University can't. But the belief of being a messenger of Allah endures despite factual evidence to the contrary and in view of historical chrinicles of the 7th cnetury AD that Mohammed was a typical tribal leader, a 7th century Arabian warlord who murdered, ordered executions, and pillaged and plundered other tribes and peoples, he was just more successful at it than other tribal warlords.

Christians confront the evidence against their deeply held faith, debate it, provide contradicting evidence in support of thier views, write articles, attend symposiums, all without resort to public hysteria and violence. The same statement can be made for Jews, Hindus, Bhuddists, Taoist, Mormons and Rastafarians. Moslems confront the evidence against their deeply held faith with mass insurrection, riots, and civil disobedience, threats and intimidation to force the non-believer to forgo fact for fantasy.

Sorry Granny

And apologies to all for being parochial. Willesden Green isn't slightly surreal - it's all too appropriate a location. Great changes over the last 30 years, don't you know. These days, simply to get a hearing anywhere between the Spotted Dog and the Cricklewood Crown, dear old Charlie will need to vie in dhimmitude with the incumbent, youthful Lib Dem MP who knows exactly what plays well in her particular constituency. Instincts much like those of Red Ken, her Cricklewood neighbour.

I have had enough.

The sooner we get the Tories back into power the better.

Mr Clarke:
"It is a question of respecting others, and that means do not provoke or challenge the deeply-held views of others."

Many Muslims have the deeply-held view that they should dominate the world, that adulterous women should be executed, that Jews are the progeny of apes and pigs, that blowing up innocents is the delight of Allah, etc etc.

Mr Clarke doesnt want to challenge these deeply-held views?

He is a moral imbecile.

"that means do not provoke or challenge the deeply-held views of others"

Like the Islamic view on peace?

There is our idea of peace and there is their Koranic peace – after the holy war.
___________

If for example this deeply-held view is trying to force others to accept it - then you better believe that, we are going to challenge it.

The best outcome is that the Islamic people also begin to challenge these deeply-held views.

Turbinehead

I agree that this is definitely - a vote thing.

I was talking to someone in the Respect party (UK) / Islamic sympathy party.

With their leader George Galloway – a quasi-Muslim

I mentioned that George Galloway along with supporters were held up in a hall - by a group of Islamic men in balaclavas – during a political speech – citing the he was a 'false prophet' and that they should - hang him!

This member of the very same party - seemed almost unaware of the incident - and said that he had only just heard of it (at the time) but the Islamic vote was very important to them???

I think this was before the 7/7 bombing - and I wanted to know how he thought that they would be able to negotiate with people who possibly wanted to kill you?

Votes were what he had on his mind. What they would trade in for this is amazing.

Pass it on:

Harry's Place had lots about that infamous all candidates meeting in Bethnal Green and Bow. Not sure about the balaklava part, but believe the perps were members of Hizb ut Tahir.

Daffersd posted: I can not put into words what I feel, disgust, anger, hate and the profound need to apologise to my Danish brothers for this un-British like behaviour.

I feel ashamed that my government, the government of the UK, has stooped, nay fallen into the gutter, and criticised a small country in the defence of freedom.

Charles Clarke, Blair and Straw - we remember their statements that 500 fanatics were to be deported soon. NOT ONE SO FAR. NOT ONE.And oh yes, "the rules are changing". The rules are indeed changing - freedom is to be outlawed.

Mr Clarke said: "I think that was a serious mistake which you could not imagine happening in other countries ... certainly not in this country. It is a question of respecting others, and that means do not provoke or challenge the deeply-held views of others."

What about the deeply held views of the people of Britain Mr Clarke? Are they to be ignored? And why so? Is it because they are unlikely to use bombs as a debating point?

The home secretary, Charles Clarke, criticised the decision by the Danish prime minister, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, to snub a request from 11 Muslim countries for a meeting after the cartoons were published in the Jyllands Posten newspaper in September.

HE IS WRONG. The PM of Denmark made every effort to defuse the row short of banning the newspaper article, which he just cannot do.

Mr Clarke said: "I think that was a serious mistake which you could not imagine happening in other countries ... certainly not in this country."

From Clarke's words one surmises that the British government would indeed have put a clamp on any paper that decided to publish the cartoons.

Good point sonnyboy.

archduke posted; I have had enough. The sooner we get the Tories back into power the better.

Its going to be tough for the Tories to break through. Labour is making every effort to get the muslim vote in the bank.

In going to Iraq, this government had imperriled its muslim vote bank. It is now doing everything possible to compensate, including selling the country to the islamofascists, to regain that vote.

Chimed? The comments chimed?

O tempores, o linguae! The death of language is the death of thought.

It is a question of respecting others, and that means do not provoke or challenge the deeply-held views of others."

Ah yes, he thinks like a fascist. Remember, Mussolini made insulting someones religion a crime.
I hope the UK doesn't follow countries like the Netherlands into the abyss. It looks as if politics there is shifting back to the left, which means appeasing the Islamo-mafia is quite popular with some voters, particularily the mohammedian voters..

I have had enough.

The sooner we get the Tories back into power the better.

Your living in a fantasy if you think they are going to help. You need a party that is going to name the enemy. And I know of only one.

Even in the US people are starting to latch on the we need to be calling this a war on Islam not a war on terrorism.

Until you can name the enemy you are destined to loose.

Whether it was a mistake or not depends on how you define a mistake. If it's more important for you to make money doing business with peopel who treat you with contempt and try to scare you into submission than it is to defend the principles of the civilization you represent then yes, it was a mistake.

Personally I have no regrets, though...

cruzado,

Here's one portuguese king that you can be proud of:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sebastian_I_of_Portugal

All the Brits and Europeans are doing such a nice job of fisking this blathering insanity by Mr. Clarke that I've just been lurking and learning...

And then, as if the UK is determined to pile horror upon heinousness, I noticed this disgustingly dirty and filth filled article about an equally filth filled "project" -- sponsored by your "Home Office and the Department for Trade and Industry..." Your British and EU tax dollars at work!

(Still wiping the barf from the vicinity around my computer...)

From the inimitable Guardian:

Charting the lost innovations of Islam

Paul Lewis highlights a new exhibition that reveals the inventions made by the Muslim world (italic sneer is mine...)

It is the thread that links cars, carpets and cameras and is also responsible for three-course meals, bookshops and modern medicine.

and it goes downhill from there. You guessed it -- ISLAM brought us all of this and much MUCH more -- We owe them everything!

the most insidious part...:

"Tailored to appeal to school children and their teachers..."

Full bore Da'wa conducted by the UK Government...

or:

"Meanwhile, it was Caliph al-Ma'mum's interest in astronomy that led to the development of large observatories, sophisticated astronomical instruments and a rigorous analysis of the stars."

Never mind the Greeks. Never mind the Egyptians. Never mind the Mayans or the Chinese or the Natives of America -- all of whom devoloped "large observatories" and "sophisticated astronomical instruments" and in some cases even "a rigorous analysis of the stars...."

Oh the horrors and distortions go on an on, and so could I, but I won't...

Britain is doomed!
