Defamatory? Certainly not. Some of them showed a connection between Islam and violence, which Muslims around the world have daily been bearing out -- not least by means of cartoon rage itself. Injurious? Yes, they were, but only indirectly. They did grave damage to the image of Islam as a religion of peace and tolerance, by giving rise to an orchestrated campaign of violent intimidation and an ongoing assault on the principle of freedom of speech. The eyes of many have been opened.
From AP, with thanks to Jeffrey Imm:
COPENHAGEN, Denmark - A group of 27 Danish Muslim organizations have filed a defamation lawsuit against the newspaper that first published the caricatures of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad, their lawyer said Thursday. The lawsuit was filed Wednesday, two weeks after Denmark’s top prosecutor declined to press criminal charges, saying the drawings that sparked a firestorm in the Muslim world did not violate laws against racism or blasphemy.
Michael Christiani Havemann, a lawyer representing the Muslim groups, said lawsuit sought $16,100 in damages from Jyllands-Posten Editor in Chief Carsten Juste and Culture Editor Flemming Rose, who supervised the cartoon project.
“We’re seeking judgment for both the text and the drawings which were gratuitously defamatory and injurious,” Havemann said.
Muslims have to be the maddest of God's creatures. Here you have cartoons of their alleged prophet with a lit bomb for a turban. Thus saying that Muhammad was a terrorist. Many of the rioting Muslims went crazy at this imagery they claim insulted Muhammad. How dare they portray him as a terrorist!!
But the fact is that Muhammad was a terrorist. This cartoon was very faithful to Islam and this famous quote from Hadith:
"I have been made victorious with terror"
Michael Christiani Havemann
Souldn't he be called Malik Islami Havemann?
"lawsuit sought $16,100 in damages"
hmm, does that mean they have 161 willing bomb belt wearers all lined up? $61 for the materials and $100 for the drugs and alcohol the idiot needs to be force fedd before he'll blow himself up.
Is there a lawsuit against the Egyptian mainstream newspaper that published the cartoons months before the Danish paper did?
Why is the fact of the cartoons' publication in Egypt (protest-free) months ahead of the Danish publication swept under the rug??? This double standard should be a headline whenever a story is written about the Danish cartoons.

Ironically, I'm fairly certain that the "turbanbomber" which was deemed the most offensive of the original 12 images originally appeared in the middle eastern press in the wake of the 7/7 bombing last summer as an expression of revulsion towards Islamic extremism.
I also wonder about the potential statement of defence and counterclaim that could be filed in reply, especially if the defence introduces the three bogus "cartoons" created especially for the travelling Cartoon Jihad roadshow.
In the war of civilizations in which we find ourselves, we must be as precise as we can about terms. My quibble is not with this story, which is informative, but with its headline. These aggressors are not "Danish Muslims." They are no more Danish than I am, I suspect. They are Moslems in Denmark. Putting it that way makes us ("us" being Westerners generally, not JW/DW readers specifically) ask ourselves why these insolent and pushy Moslems are in Denmark at all, and might start us wondering why we admit them to Western societies in the first place and why we suffer them to remain. Calling them Danish Muslims makes them sound, well, Danish - and therefore a natural, home-grown element of Danish society. They are anything but, and if they have their way there will be no Danish - or, indeed, Western - society. We need to name our enemies so as not to deceive ourselves. HRS
It's time the West was put on a real war footing. On a real war footing, all these frivolous cases fought to secure Islam in the free world would be outlawed. This ludicrous situation cannot be allowed to continue.
Because of these Muslim Immigrants in Denmark(not danish Muslims),Denmark has suffered millions of dollors loss in foreihgn trades.
In fact, the Danish Government should punish the Imams, who took wrong cartoons, published in a pig farms contest, and showed it in the Arab countries, as those pigs are depicted for Prophet Mohammed. These Mullahs should be deported to their original country. Further,no Muslim in Denmark should be paid their free medicals, doles, child care etc,as because of them,Denamrg looses millions of dollors every month.Enjoying all these benefits, they harm the verycountry that gave them refuge, and feeds them. That is the case with them, where ever they go.
Why don't these imams and mullahs and ayatollahs, who have infiltrated the West, do something worthwhile with all of their energies instead of harassing us about cartoons?
Maybe orgami?
Or hand-shadow making? (It's very Platonic.)
Anything!
If we could harness the incoherent sputtering rage of Mohammedans for a year, we could power enough desalinization plants to make the Sahara bloom again.
The sheer squandering of human intelligence and primate vigor for such cosmic nonsense makes me want to throw a custard pie at the Ka'aba.
I wonder if the Danish will be able to demonstrate that Mohammed was indeed violent and that most of this terrorism of today stems from his teachings.
This whole thing with the West and Islam is like an arranged marriage - where I think Islam wants to be the man.
Stop up the government teat and tax them right back to thier own countries.. seditious bas***ds..
