Family: Alleged UNC campus jihadist a “kind, gentle soul”

Gentlemen, start your violins. "Family: Alleged UNC campus crasher a 'kind, gentle soul,'" from AP, with thanks to Doc Washburn:

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. (AP) - The man accused of trying to kill nine people by driving through a pedestrian plaza at the University of North Carolina is “a kind, gentle and pure soul” whose action was completely out of character, his family said in a statement Friday.

Yet, Mohammed Taheri-azar, 22, appeared to laugh during a hearing earlier in the day as witnesses described the attack on the university's flagship campus.

He faces nine charges of attempted murder and nine of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to about 150 years in prison....

Laila Taheri-Azar, Mohammed's older sister, said outside Friday's hearing that her brother was an average person - a NASCAR fan who enjoyed fishing and camping with his friends.

“Please let us echo in your ears that my brother was and always has been a kind, gentle and pure soul,” she read from a statement. “His current actions and words are as much a source of shock and distress to us as they are to you.”

Taheri-azar, wearing an orange prison jumpsuit, appeared to be reading the Quran during much of the hearing and seemed to laugh at times during testimony.

Freshman Alex Slater said he had just finished lunch and was walking to class when he noticed a Jeep in the area.

“He rolled up right next to us and I looked inside the car and there is the driver, and he just stepped on the gas and turned the wheel,” Slater said. “He just floored it right through The Pit.”

It should also be emphasized that The Pit is not an area in which one usually drives through. At the center of The Pit area is just that: a pit, a large open area accessible by steps down. I don't think he could have been driving in that. But even if he was driving around it, his SUV was already far away from anyplace where anyone normally drives -- unless the configuration of the UNC campus has changed drastically since I was there.

Hang him and make sure they bury him in Iran!

He will get a martyr's funeral and all his relatives must no longer fake great pains and deny how proud they are to have such a great warrior for Islam in the family.

Why is it always important for the family members to tell us what great people these clowns are? Just once I’d like to see the mother or another family member say “my son was a nut, I did my best but he is a loon, thank God no one was killed”.

Hmmm.

So he was a "U.S. citizen".
So unless he had a previous felony conviction or a "domestic violence" history(initial checking indicates negatory), he could have purchased a gun legally and easily.
But the letter claimed he tried but could not.

Still suspicious. More-so.

I read also that this nut finished his degree program to show just how intelligent Allah's servants are. Did'nt he just disprove that with his Pit stop?

"a kind, gentle and pure soul”

Obviously, he is a sincere fellow. He sincerely wanted to kill Americans, in America, in an act of jihad.

Yet, Mohammed Taheri-azar, 22, appeared to laugh during a hearing earlier in the day as witnesses described the attack on the university's flagship campus.

Yes, funny thing; how it all turned out. What is a sincere fellow to do after all?

Nah, this couldn't be a rogue-agency psy-op to keep us cognizant of the justification for the existence(and expansion) of a police-state.
No, nevermind that the USA has been transformed from minimalist government into maximalist government over the last 100 years or so. Trusting the government(and media)is wise and prudent. Hahahaha!

Maybe tell put his kind and gentle soul in the general prison population.

Sorry should have been they'll

The code word is that he was reading the koran in court. Thats more than enough to tell me this crazy guy was just being a good muslim. killing some infidals is a holy action by these muslims and you never know when they will go off, like any mass murderer.

Mohammed Taheri-azar was following the teachings of his "faith."

Another case which underscores two things:

1. Western-reared Muslims can revert to barbarianism.

2. The media will not tell the truth about Islam.

This morning, CAIR stated on CBS News that the Koran does not say that apostates should be killed. The idiot interviewer didn't know enough to call CAIR on that one.

Many might agree that Bin seemed gentle as well - as far as we know he did not strangle to death any of his four wives.

This is Islam at its radical end - these high priests of murder peacefully meditate and pray, for the deaths of all others.

This is what the enemy looks like.
Gentle and orderly - yet violent.

As calm and meditative as Bin Laden appears in each of his videos - he always has some sort of automatic weapon positioned next to him. He means to kill.

Personally I think this kid has wasted his life - he says it is for Jihad. OK. Thankfully no one was seriously hurt.

Again it shows how plague-like this ideology is. Taking a person from being a normal college kid to running down his classmates.

Another muslim with a "kind, gentle, and pure soul" who just had a Jihad Day. Everybody can understand that, can't they?

For the rest of us, it's kind of like waking up on the wrong side of the bed one morning in an ill-tempered mood which tends to ruin our whole day. We're better off if we just climbed back into bed and didn't get up because we might just say the wrong thing to somebody and regret it later.

For muslims, the experience is similar but a few orders of magnitude greater. For them, they awake in a teeth gnashing, spittle spewing, hate-filled rage (scientifically known as the 'Jihad Mindset') and, instead of going back to bed, they proceed to go out and ruin the lives of allah's enemies and any other non-believers they encounter that day.

It's not like it's never happened before to a lot of other muslims with kind, gentle, and pure souls. I guess since it's an islamic thing, non-muslims just can't relate the 'Jihad Day' experience.

"Please let us echo in your ears that my brother was and always has been a kind, gentle and pure soul,” she read from a statement. “His current actions and words are as much a source of shock and distress to us as they are to you.”
-- from the article above

No doubt, for a Muslim, much of it true --a "kind, gentle and pure soul" in many ways. But not toward Infidels. There the adjectives begin to jostle one another. The purer his Islam, the less kind and gentle he would be -- as the Qur'an tells him, as the Hadith make clear in their most authoritative recensions, as the example of Muhammad instructs-- toward Infidels.

And when an Infidel experiences mental desarroi or depression, he can blame his parents, his children, his siblings, his karma, The System, Amerika, the stars, fate, his cholesterol level, his serotonin level, or even --- himself. When a Muslim, with that mental vademecum and pocket prism through which to view the univese, Islam, falls into any kind of distress (and this assumes, which may not be true, that Taheri-Azer did not quite take the tenets and attitudes of Islam as much to heart before, when he was merely that "kind, gentle and pure soul") he can blame the Infidel. As Taheri-Azar did.

This kind of thing, this Muslim version of the old immigrant mother in the Jimmy-Cagney movie assuring the police that "my boy's a good boy" is particularly telling. For it happens all the time, with suspect after suspect -- the terrorists in London or Madrid or elsewhere are always being described, by a brother, an uncle, a father, someone, as "kind" and "gentle" and "pure" and the message always is: How Could It Possibly Have Happened?

Now, two things are possible. Both should not relieve, but increase, the alarm and suspicion felt by intelligent Infidels. One possiblity is that this sister is flatly lying, that she knows perfectly well her brother was consumed with the anti-Infidel teachings of Islam, and had given many signs of it. The possiblity is that all these family members (that uncle of one of the London bombers, who first expressed his "amazement" at his nephew's action, and later expressed not amazement at all, but pride in the actions) understand perfectly why their son, brother, nephew, did what he did, and the obvious sources for his attitudes and actions.

The second possibility, far less likely, but still conceivable in a few cases, is that some of these people really are not quite aware of the natural effect of Islam on those who take Islam seriously. Again and again "moderate" Muslims, or those who are not even really Muslims but rather "Muslim-for-identification-purposes-only" Muslims, have themselves been amazed, when they return to a Muslim environment, to see the effect of Islam. How many of those the American government listened to in fashioning its Iraq policies, were of the latter kind, the Allawi-Chalabi-Makiya kind, the essentially secular Shi'a who had spent decades in the West, and became westernized, and forgot or allowed themselves to forget just how crazy, how aggressive, how conspiratorial, how antipathetic to the ideas of compromise and power-sharing and common sense, is the world of Islam, a world that combines a dreamy blend of inshallah-fatalism with the duty of Jihad, which requires action, action, action (not the action of Western man, going to work every day, piling one stone on another to build the edifice of an economy or a civilization), that is not to build but to either destroy (what the Infidel has) or to appropriate it (through Jizyah in all of its disguised and undisguised forms) or to seize it, as Muhammad seized the booty of those he would declare, in order to seize that booty, his enemies, such as the inoffensive Jewish farmers of the Khaybar Oasis.

So which is it? Is it the deliberate attempts by all these family members of all these terrorists to deceive us, which means they are exhibiting the problem with so-called "moderate Muslims" (google, especially if you have just come to this website to see what Brian Whitaker is talking about, "Ten Thinks to Think About When Thinking About Moderate Muslims" or simply go to the "Articles" in the bar above and look under those by Hugh Fitzgerald) whose behavior simply deceives us and keeps us fooled a bit longer?

Or are those family members themselves fooled? And if they are, then how is that Infidels should be expected to detect the Muslim immigrant who is like, or will turn out to be, just like Taheri-Azar, and the one who is like, or will turn out to be, just like his presumably inoffensive sister, the one who tells us, with a tone of great sorrow, how "kind" and how "gentle" and how "pure" he was. If we have no sure-fire method of detection, should we not then decide, in the interests of our own physical security, to simply halt all Muslim immigration? If "only" 10% of Muslims in the West support "suicide bombing" (the figure is much higher in the opinion polls) or "only" 40% of Muslims in England support the imposition of Sharia' law in England which would mean the end of England as it has slowly been fashioned since the days of the Standing Stones of Callanish, and Stonehenge, and woad-painted tribesman, what does this mean?

Why should Infidels take a chance, if the likelihood of their being able to distinguish the "moderate" from the "immoderate" Muslim is even slimmer than that of the closest relatives of those Muslims found to have engaged in would-be, or successful, acts of terrorism, and given that the problem is complicated by the "My Son the Fanatic" problem where the children or grandchildren of "moderates" who may be classified mainly as economic migrants "return" to Islam, with dangerous consequences for Infidels.

The sister of Taheri-Azer (like all the other relatives "amazed" at the "inexplicable" behavior of their relatives, are apparently unable cannot figure out what it is, what doctrines and attitudes, what passages in what set of texts, taken seriously, might have caused her kind, her gentle, her pure-souled brother to do what he did.

She can't figure it out. But we can.

This 'lone-wolf, angry Muslim lashing out at infidels to protest the treatment of Muslims worldwide' phenomenon is just going to increase with time as Muslims become more numerous in the USA. Similarly, there will be increasing numbers of others less prone to emotionalism who will avail themselves to jihadi organizations.

"Their here."

Didn't Jeffrey Dahmer's parents say that about their son? I'm sure A. Hitler's mom thought the world of him.

Family: Alleged UNC campus jihadist a “kind, gentle soul”

Well, Hitler also was a kind, gentle soul -- he was vegetarian because he didn't like the idea of murdering animals, he was a teetotaler and a non-smoker... plus he loved children.

All together now: Awwwwwww.

And now: Ewwwwwww!

sounds the same as every serial killers neighbors. the difference being that dahmer didn't have a billion co-religionists cheering him on. or the promise of paradise.

there's about ten hours of psychopath documentaries on tv every weekend. saw an interview with dahmer just before his death. now, most of his victims were black and asian. but he went to great pains to say that he wasn't a racist. he freely admitted to being a canibal. but insisted that his victims were just a random sampling of his ethnic neighborhood.

always thought this was a perfect illustration of how screwed up we are on race.

The late, great Rodney Dangerfield had a stand-up routine that went something like this:

"Did you ever notice, after they catch some guy with a hundred bodies buried in his basement, the reporters always ask the cops, 'What kind of a guy was he?' and the cops always say 'He was a quiet man, a gentle man...'"

(Adjust tie nervously and look towards audience with pop-eyed disbelief).

Nice to know Ill be off the hook next time I decide to get homicidal.

Im a gentle and caring soul myself, you will of course forgive me for attacking a nightclub because of some perceived dishonor they have brought against my beliefs.

Free pass, just claim your gentle and caring.

I'll bet the young people in the pit that day are kinder and more gentler all the time. The news media should be airing the families of the kids this muslim tried to run down. Get their opinions.

oops. Should just be more gentle.

The foundation for an insanity defense is being laid, and for those who have no personal knowledge of Islam, such a defense will seem viable since they will just lump Islam into the group of just another religion. A Muslim defense attorney will definitely try to make that assertion, and a defense attorney from any other religious or secular background will be too ignorant of Islam to assert otherwise.

It is the job of the prosecutor to learn of Islam, its tenets and its requirement for violent jihad to defend the ummah. Personal experience of the jury pool of benign interactions of all other religions will need to be challenged by the prosecutor. The prosecutor has to put on a case that the defendant's letter is not evidence of insanity but rather evidence of an increased piousness in Islamic doctrine, and piousness in Islam is the polar opposite of piousness in all other religions. If the prosecutor fails this task the jury will consider the letter to be evidence of insanity.

Hopefully, recent news of the interactions of Islam with the rest of the world, from the cartoon jihad to the calls for death to Abdul Rahman, will put a chink in the mental armor of the jury pool that Islam is just not another benign religion. But there is a danger there too. Piousness in Islam can also be seen to lead to insanity. Who, after all, is the insane, Abdul Rahman or the cleric who incites Afghans to kill Rahman if he is freed saying that he is clearly guilty of apostasy and deserves to die.

"oops. Should just be more gentle."

Lol. More gentle and gentler are both accepted comparative forms.

hehehe Eisenhund, it's been a looong time since English class.

Why not put Laila in the pit, and have someone hit her with an SUV. Then tell her, and her folks (dear bro included) that the person who drove that SUV was a kind gentle soul who was just avenging the hundreds of millions on infidels slaughtered by Muslims the world over the last 1400 years.

They'll understand.

He's just embarassed no one died.

What a pathetic excuse for a jihad warrior!

If only Mohammad had been such a klutz!

This is obviously a HATE CRIME.

North Carolina probably has a hate crime law of some kind. Where are the prosecuters when it is really a hate crime?

I get the mental image from this of a movie poster "Gentle and Gentler," starring two stereotypical muslim lunkheads who are on a journey of jihad and "religious fulfillment" (kill themselves, and take out as many "infidels" with them as they can). Of course, comical mayhem ensues. Perhaps Blake Edwards could direct it.

yohannbiimu-

I thought there was already a fatwa against Jim Carrey for "Bruce Almighty"?

(Although I would pay good money to see a pie fight at the Ka'aba.)

Pardon me for being very unconvinced about this family, but in another article the mother was described as not being around, but in Afghanistan. Hmmm. Afghanistan? What is she doing there? On a vacation? A shopping spree? Although she could have very legitimate reasons for being in Afghanistan, such as business or visiting relatives, even those seem somewhat forced. Second, where is she now? unless prevented by some fairly strong issue, how many mothers when faced with their 22 year-old son being charged with nine counts of attempted murder would not come back to be near him? It all seems kind of odd to me.

"Dude, Where's my Carbomb?"

I guess this goes to show that in every Muslim who appears to be sweet and kind and gentle and...oh excuse me while I barf...is just a monster waiting to be awakened by having their hot buttons pushed at just the right moment.

This is what makes Islam like a ticking time bomb. Click and another one is set off to follow without question.

Kinda' like the 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers'. You fall asleep and boom, you're a sucide bomber. Who can ever see that coming?

PJ

If I were to script a movie about a couple of idiot jihadists, I'd have them inadvertantly destroying the "Great Mosque" in Mecca, along with the Ka'ba. I think I'd pay to see that.

"kind, gentle soul"

Did someone say - enable?
