N.J. Democrats dump Arab-American candidate over terror comments

Jihad is jihad. Attacks on innocent civilians are attacks on innocent civilians. He should go farther than just saying that killing innocent people is always wrong; he should specifically say that killing Israeli civilians is always wrong. If he cannot say that, he shouldn't be a candidate for anything. From AP, with thanks to all who sent this in:

TRENTON, N.J. New Jersey Democrats have dumped an Arab-American candidate over comments he made in 2002 about suicide bombers.

Lebanese-born Sami Merhi was a candidate for freeholder in Passaic County before he was removed from the ticket. Freeholders are county lawmakers.

The comment in question was made at a Democratic fundraiser in September 2002.

Merhi condemned the September eleventh attacks as "cold-blooded murders" committed by "crazy fanatics." But when asked whether he would say the same thing about Palestinian suicide bombers who target Israelis, Merhi said there was no comparison.

At a meeting yesterday about his candidacy, Merhi said he told party leaders that he opposes all forms of terrorism and that killing innocent people is always wrong.

Sami Merhi .....
Be careful with this man. His business partner is Jewish and he denies the charges. He might be the wronged party. Go google up his name.

Being from NJ I am glad at least one seat in one county wont be held by a muslim. One down several thousand more to go. Nationally we are up against a tiny minority....for now. Looking at Europe we see our possible future. How can Sweden be saved? Short of targeted and religiously biased legislation and violence by the Infidel majority. What of England where a highschool girl is sueing to be allowed to wear a Proscribed garment(jibhab) contrary to the schools established dresscode. Her lawyer is none other than Tony Blair's WIFE! England is as good as gone. Denmark after growing a set is starting to fight back, Holland and France are waking up to the threat but decades of secularism and socialism have eaten away Europes will to defend itself. It will take a shift in paradigms before Europe can lead us into this fight....and it will have to be Europe, we have our own problems with Mexican Colonization which will be our albatross for the next decade. Make no mistake this is Europes fight and all we can do is keep them out of office here and in the public eye.

At a meeting yesterday about his candidacy, Merhi said he told party leaders that he opposes all forms of terrorism and that killing innocent people is always wrong.

Last time Arafat said this in English, the message to Bhargauti was to step up terror attacks on Israel! Doesn't Mehri sound just the same?

This means nothing. What is Merhi's definition of "innocent people"? What is his definition of "terrorism"? There have been so many examples of those making exactly the same statement, and meaning something quite different from what most of us would consider the minimally acceptable definition of either, that until he asked to spell it out -- in detail, by being questioned about it by alert and prepared questioners, and not the usual simpletons -- there is little point.

And then there is the matter of what he said after 9/11. That was unacceptable. If he changes his story now, why should anyone think it is for any reason other than political ambition? And why should anyone wish to encourage the political careers of such people, instead of resolutely working against all those who give evidence of being more likely, in the end, to work -- soothingly, slyly, and so effectively -- against those who want to do everything they can to prevent the promotion of the Muslim agenda, even if it is promoted by islamochristian Arabs rather than Muslims.

Such candidates should be prevented from acquiring power early on, before they get into positions from which it will be much harder to dislodge them and where they can become, conceivably, local kingmakers. Or, at the very least, help to present a false face and false hopes to unwary Infidels -- who are quite unwary enough.

Big G, you beat me to it.

Yes, the Muslims will always, ALWAYS bray on and on about condemning "terrorism" and claim that "killing innocents" is wrong.

But the Arab League has SPECIFICALLY said that no one in Israel is truly innocent, and that there's no such thing as a terrorist act against Israel. So there's the "out" for "moderate" Muslims.

You pretty-much HAVE to ask them specifically if they condemn the killing of all innocent people, including Israeli people, and including Israeli SETTLERS. Of course, then they'll label you a "Zionist", a "conservative Christian" and other insults.

That's fine with me. I'm proud to be a liberal, and I'm proud to be a Zionist. And for the first time in a while, today I'm proud to be a Democrat. Good for the NJ Democratic party. This is especially noteworthy considering the Israeli guy that was key in outing former Governor McGreevy (D-Brokeback Mountain.)

Despite being on the right, I agree with you. I'd like to see both the Dems and GOP flush out the Jihadists in their ranks, be it Dennis Kucinich or Condi Rice. I'd like to see anti-Islamic candidates for as many offices as possible on both ends, so that one needn't hold ones nose and vote for those they may otherwise oppose simply because the person they are voting for is on the right side of the Islam debate.

yasser arafat was a guest on the famous US television program Meet the Press back in 1975 or 1976. I read the transcript of the program. He said at that time that he was "against terrorism." He repeated the same thing several times in later years, usually in English. If a Muslim does not specifically define what he means by "terrorism" and what he means by "innocents," then he is just trying to deceive non-Muslims.

This is not the last that we'll hear of Sami.
If at first you don't succeed, wait until the bad pub dies down and for liberals to invoke the charge of discrimination towards Muslims, then try again.

The murder of innocents can never be justified. It doesn't matter if you are an Israeli civilian killed by a suicide bomber or a Palestinian civilian killed by a tank. It's inherently evil to try to justify the murder of innocents, it really doesn't matter what side you fall on.

Elyahu, that was not being subtle or double-talking, that was a plain lie. Even if he meant that he was against such terrorism as the Red Brigades, the fact is that, at the time, his men were training dozens of would-be Red Brigade, Baader-Meinhof, ETA, IRA and other villains in the arts of terror murder. At the very same time as he said that.
