A court in Kristiansand, southern Norway, has sentenced a man to 120 days in jail for beating his teenage daughter with straps and a metal rod. The beatings were sparked by her admission that she no longer was a virgin.The 49-year-old man, who emigrated to Norway from Iraq, claimed he'd done nothing wrong. He told the court that he was "much kinder" than many other fathers from his culture would have been.
He claimed most other men would have killed the girl, instead of "just beating her."
Oh. I guess that makes him a moderate.

Two thoughts: obviously he has no concept of needing to fit into a new culture with new values. I wonder why Norway is letting people in under those circumstances.

Not only should we wonder why Norway allowed him to emigrate, but why he asked to migrate to Norway in the first place.
I'm currently reading Bawer's book "While Europe Slept", and this Iraqi immigrant's behavior fits Bawer's descriptions of European Muslims to a tee.
I wonder what punishment is typical in Norway for an assault like this one? We'd have to know more facts, of course, but 120 days seems very brief.

He will NOT get the usual sentence for this sort of crime. Because he is muslim and because that sort of violence is allowed in his creed, then the court will give him a lesser sentence.Such is the impression gained so far from Norwegian cowardice in the face of islamic hostility.
She, of course, is lucky, as many muslim fathers would have killed her.
There should be an automatic deportation sentence for all muslims who commit any crime slightly related to their beliefs.

He migrated because of money, not for a yearning for freedom. He thought he could act like he had back home because his muslim friends told him he could and the MSM didn't say he couldn't.

I doubt that the man in question had realistic view of where he was about to raise his family. He should be blaming his friends and family for mis-leading him as to what a bunch of soft-hearted idiots his host country were to be have made of.
On the other hand, my mother, an emigrate, sometimes blamed her host country for every seeming mis-step her offspring took: drugs, sex, and having friends instead of family. She sometimes wished she had never migrated to the north.
But if she hadn't she probably would have starved along with her sons and daughters. I am glad that I grew up in a free and successful land.
This man could have saved himself (and us) a lot of grief if some one at the border had simply demanded a few clear declarations from him. He might have decided it was better to prosper than worship a false god.

I recall some years back reading in the newspaper that a Muslim (living in, I think, Glasgow) had beaten his daughter to death for eating a packet of smokey bacon crisps. (As it happens, there is no "bacon" in such crisps, merely flavouring chemicals - but that's an irrelevance). At the time I assumed this was a random oddity - as one would - now I see it is part of a pattern.
How sad that there is a "culture" in which beating and killing little girls is regarded as "honourable".
What gets me is the complete lack of remorse these Muslims display after their deplorable crimes and it's all due to that vile and completely repulsive book they call a Qur'an.. Islam is lame..

The fact is that violence against women (and the difficulty in getting justice) is not merely “perverse western propaganda” against Islam but an actual problem in muslim society.
For example in Pak I do not understand why the MMA and other right-wing parties oppose the repeal of Hudood laws in Pakistan. I do not know what kind of religion they are serving by denying equal rights to women?
What could they possibly hope to achieve by pushing women into a life of cruelty, injustice and oppression? Even those who want to repeal these laws seem afraid of being labelled as un-Islamic or even anti-Islam.
The problem lies in attitudes, of Muslim societies. To stop oppression of women we (the muslims) need to not only repeal discriminatory laws but also change our attitudes.
For example, we muslims should start pretending that women too are human beings. Even pretending is a good beginning because if we keep on pretending long enough, we will start believing it.
No doubt the SOB probably beat the admission out of his daughter in the first place.
And JaimeZ you have the motive for immigration pretty spot on, but needs some clarification. They move to Europe for two reasons: social benefits*, and, in the case of the Muslim Brotherhood type, because they are a threat to the totalitatian governments of the countries from which they came.
*Figures from Denmark show that although the Muslim population is 4%, they collect 20% of the welfare benefits, an amount far out of proportion to other immigrant populations as well as the Danish-born population.
IMHO, there should be laws in the books, that an immigrant who breaks the laws of the land, gets sent home on the first plane out.
This should be anywhere. For any crime short of a parking ticket. They should be told before migrating, that if there is ONE infraction, off they go home.
No country should have to bear the brunt of other countries criminals. Even if their ideology condones it.
And it's a pretty sad notion, that a man's honor is based on his daughter's virginity.

This man and all the adults in his family should be deported. The victim, any unmarried sisters, and small children should be given refuge in Norway and adopted by non-Muslim families.
I've read a lot of articles on honor killing, and how muslim males are intellectually castrated. I don't know how those poor women have put up with the crap and have not all killed themselves. It's just sickening.

Yes it does. I was impressed by his reatraint. In the UK, there was a case of a father murdering his daughter because she had had a song dedicated to her on the radio. The shame brought on the family could only be relieved by her death.

I totally agree, although in this kind of case it could make reporting less likely (more pressure on the victim), and there would need to be careful means of allowing the victimes to stay and integrate into their host country.
It amazes me that immigrants in so many countries have immediate full rights when it comes to criminal offenses. What do we need more criminals for??
I will say here that I spent many years as a temporary immigrant in a European country myself. My parents did not have the right to vote. They were there to work and could enjoy all other aspects of the country. But when the work ended, they knew it was time to go home, not try and hang on via some benefit. We accepted that. And there is no way we would have expected to be able to commit crimes and still stay in our host country.
It's not right that they should have the same rights as citizens of the host country. Maybe an immigrant who flagrantly breaks the law ought to be considered a hostile and get a military trial. After all, don't public defenders get paid for by your taxes?
Bear in mind that in Malaysia, all Malays are Muslims....

Success is having children

KUALA LUMPUR: What is success to a Malay woman? Having children is top of the list, according to a survey here.
In the nationwide study among 1,000 women aged 15 to 67 years, 96% said having children was the biggest success indicator.
They listed academic achievement and earning an income as other measures of their success.
The survey was conducted by the Women for Progress Research Unit of the International Islamic University.

Dr Noraini Mohd Noor, from the unit, who presented the findings, said Malay women in the country faced a conflict between career and family.
“They want to be assertive and successful but, at the same time, there are cultural constraints,” she told a forum, Malay Women’s Perception of Progress, here yesterday to discuss the findings of the survey.
“They feel if they’re doing too much or being too aggressive, their feminine side will be lost.
“Then, there is the fact that when you’re too successful, you may have to sacrifice or neglect your family in the process of getting to the top.”
TV3 personality Nizal Mohammad chaired the forum, which also comprised panellists Ampang MP Dr Rozaidah Talib, Tasputra Perkim chairman and president of the Soroptimist International Kuala Lumpur Club Eleni Norman and Unilever Malaysia human resources and corporate director Nik Mustapha Nik Mohamed.
The survey, which was sponsored by a leading moisturiser brand, found only 35% of the respondents felt they had achieved their aspirations.
While progress and aspirations are linked, the obstacles they face are lack of opportunities, money and qualifications.
The survey also found that there was still a glass ceiling for women at the workplace and, generally, women preferred having women bosses.
Dr Noraini said Malay women were expected to be a pillar of strength as a mother, yet remain feminine and subservient as a wife.
This expectation is more predominant among women in rural areas than among their urban counter-parts.
The study shows women in the 31 to 45 age group to be the least happy and optimistic, as they are overwhelmed by the need to juggle career and family, or just being a homemaker.
Remember the line from the movie? The one when Jack Nicholson says in the psyciatrist's office:
"What if this is it? What if this is as good as it gets?"
Well here's Islam for you -- the one which rears its ugly head once the population gets to be of sufficient size to no longer fear conducting themselves like Muslims in foreign lands.
I am American -- but I hardly agree with many of the American posters who somehow feel comforted in the idea that Muslims are better integrated in America. While we have done a far FAR better job than our European friends at assimilating huge numbers of refugees (after all -- America is largely a "refugee" country) we should be so sanguine when it comes to Muslims. It may be true that we've assimilated them better, but it's far more likely that if their density reaches that of countries such as France, Germany, and the Netherlands or UK, that we too would be seeing the exact same kinds of intransigence, the exact same kind of triumphalism, the exact same kinds of contempt for our nation, their host, supposedly their ''new" home away from their respective cesspools of origin.
Rest assured, if we are subjected to the same densities of Muslims, we too will suffer the exact same insults Muslims and Islam have inflicted on EVERY nation they have infiltrated or invaded before.
This man IS a moderate Muslim in "infidel" lands -- and if "infidels" aren't happy with his performance, they'd better start turning the Islamic tide around, and figure out ways to get Muslims to start leaving en masse, and pronto! (Since I mentioned France above, I should have mentioned Spain too...)
seriously you guys, there are a ton of people who beat their children for that sort of thing. I just joined this site and it seems like although it has good intentions (anti-terror) all you guys are really doing is voicing your disdain for Islam.

Perhaps all Muslims are not 'like that'. However, Islam is exactly 'like that'. To the extent that a Muslim is following the dictates of the religion is the same extent that following orders to violate self and others will be practiced.
What the world needs like a hole in the head, Ammar, is another Muslim insisting that 'Islam is not like Islam' is. As I'm sure you've heard, denial is not just another river in Egypt. Please bone up on Islam before you comment further. "The Force of Reason", by Oriana Fallaci would be a good crash course ... that is, if you're interested, which you may or may not be ..
Norway -- and the Norwegian press in general -- is becoming more and more critical of some of its immigrants these days. The story above and the one I've pasted below would never have appeared in the papers a couple of years ago. If they did, the fact that the people involved were not ethnic Norwegians would never have been mentioned.

The 35 year old mother is sentenced to 60 days unconditional jail for mistreating her 12 year old son, writes Bergens Avisen.
The boy was naked and hands tied behind his back before his mother "went loose" on him with a belt. She beat him also on the arm. After the abuse, the 12 year old managed to run out into the street -- still naked and hands tied.
There he was taken in hand by two random passers-by. The incident happened in November 2004. The woman was arrested and spent three days in jail.
In Africa
"In my homeland in Africa, physical punishment of children is allowed," explained the mother in court.
She stated that the reason for the punishment was that her son had taken off with a key that she wanted to keep hold of. She also had hurt the boy by burning his hand with a candle and rubbing chilipepper into his eyes, wrote Bergens Avisen.
The woman herself believed that she should go free since she didn't understand that physical punishment [abuse!] was not allowed in Norway, something the court did not take into consideration since the mother had gone to an immigrant course where the approach to (such a) problem was discussed.
