(03/07/06 - CHAPEL HILL) - Still no word whether the UNC graduate who's accused of running down nine UNC students with an SUV will be charged with terrorism.Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar, 22, is charged with driving a rented Jeep Cherokee on Friday through The Pit, the popular outdoor gathering spot on the campus in Chapel Hill. He says he did it to avenge the treatment of Muslims, and he didn't deny driving through the campus....
Taheri-azar told the dispatcher that he had written the reasons for the attack in a one-page letter that could be found in his apartment, which police later swarmed. The dispatcher pressed Taheri-azar to explain the motive behind the attack.
"It's really to, ah, punish the government of the United States for their actions around the world," he said....
We also learned that while he was terrorizing the UNC-CH campus, Taheri-azar's own mother was fighting the war on terror in Afghanistan. She works for the federal government as a translator....
A law enforcement source tells Eyewitness News anchor Steve Daniels that Taheri-azar was contemplating different kinds of attacks, including shooting rampage.
I have read elsewhere that by focusing on this guy we are "trivializing real terrorism." I am certainly no terrorism expert, but I fail to see why we shouldn't be focusing on both homegrown AND foreign born. I don't see the point in prematurely writing him off as a "nutcase" either. As mentioned by posters here before, these incidents have happened previously and the underlying ideology is the same.

Sadly for us, and given the exigenices of our times, the US and the rest of the West is in desperate need of speakers of Urdu, Dari, Pashtu, Turkic, Arabic, Somali, Afar etc.
But I am completely chilled hearing tales like this... Since our "intelligence" communities were caught with their pants down regarding the rising tide and threat of Islam, our desperation requires hiring natives, who are in the main Muslims. The lack of compass in our intelligence agencies which lead to this gargantuan blunder has not disappeared. Does any one feel confident in the abilities of the same managers and directors to choose wisely when picking such translators?
This fool appears to fit to a "T" Ted Dalrymple's fascinating profile (dare I use that word) of a typical Muslim young man who turns to terrorism.

Hi guys. Here is a link to a U.S. State Department pamphlet offering advice to U.S. citizens thinking of marrying Saudis. The pamphlet was withdrawn by the department after Saudi objections. The reason, of course, for it being withdrawn is that is refreshingly frank about what it would be like to marry a Saudi. I just love this pamphlet. Take a moment to savor something written in the days before political correctness stifled all objectivity and honesty in the world.

Possibly in a strange way we owe thanks to Taheri-azar. He has caused
a few hundred, or maybe thousand more to move to discover what islam is
really about. Once enlightened, these people go onto the balance pan.
In spite of political correctness, which isn't about changing hearts, but
making people sit down and shut up, these people will have their eyes opened.
At some point, a provocation could well bring the tipping point. The point
where the tide of submission and dhimmitude will reverse. I hope it won't

Hmm...his mother is a translator. Wonder what religion she is. I also wonder if she's Muslim, and goes to mosques, does she as a woman hear the same preaching these men do?
I also wonder if she's had discussions with officials on what the koran really teaches. She was probably born a muslim, raised with the koran, but, now she's shocked that her son did his jihad.

A real push is underway at this time, (D)P.A. , Arlen Specter's bill is one of many that attempts to allow and make legal the millions that want to make the U.S. their home.
