Retraction: Danish girl not menaced

The story about the threatening of the daughter of one of the Danish cartoonists, which I have now removed, turns out to be false. Its source, the Danish politician Jens Rohde, has misinformed the public -- according to the cartoonist whose daughter is the subject of the story.

In reality, 12 Muslim men did not come to the girl's school looking for her. Instead, the whole thing was a dispute among two groups of ten- and eleven-year-old girls, and it had nothing to do with cartoon rage. A Danish story about this, "Bladtegnere: Jens Rohde misinformerede," can be found at DR Nyheder (thanks to Michael).

I apologize for passing along Jens Rohde's initial account.

He he. I'm Michael.

I don't think you should apologize, you just relayed what a prominent danish politician said. The only one who should apologize is Jens Rohde, which he has.
It's just a shame he did it in the first place, cause it'll just help shift focus from what's important...

This is where I part ways with free speech, lying is not a part of free speech and when you lie and promote it as the truth you should be held accountable to a court of law.

whoever started this lie should be severely punished and the newspaper who printed this without verifying its authenticity should be subject to penalties as well.

Mooslems create enough atrocities on they're own which is why this story was so believable in the first place.

A politician telling a lie for his own political gain. Wow! We've never seen that before.

The scary thing is, that this stupid politician has probably increased the danger the girl as well as helped the Islamists by making them look like victims of slander. Rohde should check his facts before running off at the mouth.

When we look at how Islamic terrorists target children... beheaded schoolgirls in Indonesia, children burned alive in India, children raped and murdered at Beslan, etc. etc., we have enough real atrocities, that we don't need to suggest any more victims to these murderers.

I recall an arguement when I was at school (a little older, 15ish) between some Asian girls, all from East Africa, but whose families were originally from both sides of the India / Pakistan border. The arguement started in English which is how I know it was about Kashmir. It ended very badly in Urdu and fisticuffs.

I would not underestimate how nasty even childrens arguements can be but I'm heartily glad that the girl is unharmed.

One year ago this would not have happened, except among extremists such as the BNP, Le Pen's people, or the League and Rauti's Fascists in Italy. Now a supposedly respectable politician is trying to make hay out of anti-Muslim feeling. Granted that it is someone from the eye of the storm, namely Denmark, this marks a serious shift in popular feeling and the way politicians perceive it.

Something similar happened in a small Italian town, Sassuolo, the other day. A drunken Tunisian started smashing up shop windows, and the Carabinieri who arrested him were caught on camera roughing him up in a rather Rodney Kingish manner. The elections in Italy are coming up, the left-wing media were all set to make a huge fuss about the police violence... except it did not happen, because the Sassuolo people - all solidly left-wing, from one of the old red regions - explained to their representatives in words of one syllable that they were sick and tired of the thuggish minority of criminal and drug-dealing immigrants to which this man belonged, and of the idiot magistrates who hade them on the street in the morning when the police had arrested them in the evening. So the Italian left, which is showing every sign of going insane to the extent of handing victory back to the discredited and disastrous Berlusconi government, sat back and shut up for once. You see, when it is left-wing electors who are being damaged and threatened by immigrant villains, suddenly police brutality ain't so brutal. Ah well, they can always show how PC they are by insulting the Pope.

Mr. Spencer-

You should remove the original March 2 article and all comments following it.

Let the truth speak, but let misinformation be dumped.

There's plenty of the real thing to worry about without mingling some politician's folly into the stream of debate and merely muddying the waters.

I do NOT think you should remove the post but should use it as an example of lack of critical thinking and of jumping to conclusions. I had my doubts about the story right from the start as there was something not quite right about the way it was presented -- complete hearsay with no police report or first-hand testimony.

It is not only Moslems who can be stupid and we should remember that.

Real islam gives ample cause for concern. We really don't need to make stuff up.

Apology accepted!!

Jens Rohde...has he actually apologized? I don't know Danish, so can't make much sense of the article...

Raw Data is right...I for one blundered in assuming that this was a credible story. There actually was no corroboration to the original story, no testimony from the girl or her parents, school officials, etc. Everything seems to have been based on Jens Rohde or his source...i.e., based on one man's testimony, like the Koran.

This whole fracas surrounding the cartoons has been so absurd that, on some level I can hardly believe any of it is happening. But it is. The cartoonists really are being threatened, they really do have million+ dollars prices on their heads, and dozens of innocnet people have already been murdered over this. If the family members of the cartoonists are not protected, they should be.

Archimedes,

"Jens Rohde...has he actually apologized? I don't know Danish, so can't make much sense of the article..."

Well... Difficult to say really. I know I said he had, but that's because Denmarks Radio said he had. In his own words:

"I very much regret if I have misunderstood the information I received at the meeting. And I regret even more if I misunderstood the intention of the meeting."

You could use "apologize" instead of "regret" as the danish word "beklager" can be be translated into both. In this context, though, I don't see it as an apology but him regretting not paying attention.
In Danish, a "proper" apology would contain the word "undskyld".

This will sound strange, but I disagree. Right now, in the public arena, when one has 2 sides of any issue, say the Israeli-Palestinian dispute, one has one side, the Israelis, simply going by facts, while the other side, the Palestinians, freely makes stuff up. Then the people who choose to triangulate between them place a moral equivalence between Israeli truths and Palestinian lies.

It's the same between us and the Mohammedans. When we point out true stuff about the Mohammedans and their barbarism, we are the ones branded extremists for pointing these out. What we need is a mix of truths and lies, so that we at least have bargaining chips when anyone in that glorious middle calls on both sides to cool their rhetoric. Right now, when such disputes occur, both sides are asked to cool their rhetoric, which for us, means not highlighting the more extreme behavior on their part.

What about our credibility? Important that it is, it won't stop our detractors from seeing us whichever way they want. As to those who support us, give them a pedestal as well from which they can deny being in our back-pocket, "I don't agree with everything Jihadwatch says, such as ______" and fill in the cases that we made up.

We need bargaining chips. Start manufacturing them.

If you are going to harm someone or kidnap someone you only use at most 4 people not 12 people to do the job Criminal and terrorist know certain job are done better with fewer people involve. Breaking and entering could have no more 4, unless it very hight security or hight tech or both where you need more specialize people with special training and abilities. Than you donot use more than two people to ask about her at her school.

I also think that it was a mistake to post the story here. I mean 12 muslim men trying to snatch a blond little danish girl? It's too much of a hate story to be for real. Jihadwatch better be a bit more careful about what they post here in the future instead of relying on rumors and hearsay.

DanishDynamite, thanks.

No need to apologize. It's an honest mistake concidering the topic. In a free society, mistakes like this will happen. But then the oportunity to correct the mistake is also possible. In a FREE SOCIETY!!
