Sunni-Shi'ite jihad update from AP:
In Sunni Arab areas of western Baghdad, gunmen in passing automobiles killed three Shiite Muslim pilgrims and wounded five others. To the south, bombs in a minibus and along the pilgrimage road killed two people and wounded nine....At about 7:30 a.m., a BMW sedan driving alongside pilgrims in the western district of Adil opened fire, killing three young men and wounding two other people, police Lt. Thair Mahmoud said. Police later reported a second incident, also in western Baghdad, in which armed men riding in a car fired on pilgrims near Um al-Tuboul Square, wounding three.
About midday, a bomb left in a plastic bag of vegetables on a minibus exploded and killed two passengers and wounded four in a Shiite district of Baghdad, said police Lt. Bilal Ali. Later Friday, a roadside bomb exploded as a crowd of pilgrims passed in Mahmoudiya, south of Baghdad, and wounded five people, police Lt. Thair Mahmoud said.
Elsewhere, police in a Shiite area of east Baghdad late Thursday found the bodies of four Sunni men who had been seized from a taxi by masked gunmen the day before in western Baghdad. Police also reported that six mortar rounds landed on six houses Friday in a mixed Sunni-Shiite area of Khan Bani Saad, 10 miles north of Baghdad, killing one person and wounding three.
To help guard against violence in Shiite holy cities, the U.S. military earlier this week announced it was dispatching a fresh battalion of the 2nd Brigade, 1st Armored Division, about 700 troops, to Iraq from its base in Kuwait to provide extra security.
The minute Saddam Hussein's regime was knocked over, that was it. The Sunni Arabs, who constitute less than 20% of the population but who are steadfast in their hallucinatory belief that they constitute more than twice that percentage, or 42% (the lowest estimate given by them), are never going to surrender their claim to dominance. Their ability to hallucinate can be explained in large part as a reflection of a lifetime spent submerged in a belief-system that always and everywhere encourages the habit of submission, of mental submission, and of political submission to a despot, and of economic sbumission to the inshallah-fatalism that is such a remarkable component of everyday Muslim life -- a fatalism that, however, is not to be seen in the eagerness, even alacrity, with which enemies are dispatched, suppressed, killed.
And the moment Saddam Hussein was toppled, the Shi'a Arabs, who constitute 60=-65% of the population, and who have been the victims of discrimination (their smaller stature reflects decades of poverty), persecution, and mass murder by Sunni Arabs, were determined -- and who can blame them? -- not to allow power to be retained or seized by Sunni Arabs. Why should they?
The only remarkable thing about all this is that it was all completely predictable. Yet neither the Administration, nor its critics, who appear in their shared incomprehension of the menace of Islam, and in how to exploit the situation in Iraq so as to divide and demoralize the camp of Islam (and possibly to create, with Kurdistan the Model -- forget about Iraq the Model -- an inspiration not only to Kurds in Iran and Syria, that might destabilize, but also to other non-Arab Muslims, such as the Berbers and blacks in Darfur, who might be inspired by the refusal to any longer accept the Arab supremacist ideology within Islam. And possibly that, in time, could lead to a weakening of Islam's hold, if the belief-system is seen rightly, on many non-Arab Muslims).
Attacks yesterday on the Askariya mosque. Attacks today on pilgrims. Meanwhile the Americans pretend there is, in some substantial amount, hope for an "Iraqi" army and an "Iraqi" police force and a new "Iraq."
Really, why should the Shi'a sitting on all that oil, or the Kurds, sittin on their oil (and hoping to retrieve the rest, that under Kirkuk), having been abused for so long, wish to remain in Iraq? Why should they share their wealth with the Sunni Arabs who have treated so badly? Why? Because the Americans have gotten it in to their heads that there can be created, at gigantic expense, some Iraqi nation-state that will, in some completely undefined and inexplicable way, render those who believe in the Jihad less worrisome, less of a menace?
Nonsense on stilts. Climb down from those stilts. Or if the government official is not marching around on the stilts of his own arrogance, then he may still clinging to that bar-room mechanical bucking bronco that stopped bucking long ago. Or sitting atop his high horse, but the horse isn't moving, and the would-be rider is all hat -- and still no cattle.
Wait, wait, where's Ralph Peters? I want him to tell us again how spiffy things are going over there.
"To help guard against violence in Shiite holy cities, the U.S. military earlier this week announced it was dispatching a fresh battalion of the 2nd Brigade, 1st Armored Division, about 700 troops, to Iraq from its base in Kuwait to provide extra security."
Of course this will even further inflame the punk cleric Moktada al-Sadr and his brain-dead Shiite followers against us. How dare the Infidel even set eyes on the Holy Shrines! Nevermind the ones who are blowing up the shrines.
We are in a No Win situation there. Right in the middle of it, in the crossfire.
Bring our troops home and let them have at it. Bush is so obstinate that I have the feeling when anyone tells him 'islam is the problem and cannot be reformed' he says 'Stop right there.' I am hoping there is one person who says that to Bush but maybe not.
Looks like the imbecile will have to send troops to iran now, too:
"A Sunni rebel group said on Friday it was behind an attack that killed 22 people in a remote region in southeastern Iran that officials had blamed on bandits, Al Arabiya television said.
A caller speaking for Jundollah (God's Soldiers) said the group had attacked the convoy of a provincial governor, killing 22 soldiers, and took seven hostages, including a senior security official, the satellite channel said.
The group, which has kidnapped Iranian soldiers, demanded the release of members detained by Iran, Arabiya said."
Looks like the imbecile will have to send troops to iran now, too---
But that should happen! And happen fast.
Iraq is the distraction and the lie. Iran is the threat.
OT, sorry. But here is a video showing a jihadist training camp. Pretty funny, wish I knew Arabic.
Great video, special guest! I put the audio into my trusty online new fangled Muslim speak translator and it came out with this:
"I've soiled my dishdasha! Allah be praised!"
Without a doubt, one of the biggest things that the Iraq war has taught me, is that Muslims couldn't give a damn about people being killed, unless it's infidels killing Muslims.
Obviously they couldn't care less about Muslims killing infidels. We all know that by now.
By now though it's also pretty obvious that they couldn't give a damn about Muslims killling Muslims. They never gave a damn about Saddam Hussein for instance.
But then Muslims are killers. That's what they do. They are, after all, modeled after the perfect mold of their killer prophet.
But infidels killing Muslims! Even accidentally! Sacre Bleu!! Hold the presses! The outrage!
I am not kidding. I have heard actual accounts of Muslims who say exactly that. Yes, we can kill eachother. But how dare infidels dare shed even one of our "precious" lives, even accidentally (let alone "humiliate us in any way, by for example, putting underwear on our heads).
Sorry to point out the obvious, but what bloody monsters. Killing is apparently a Muslim "right". No problem. But god forbid any infidel kills a Muslim (even accidentally) and there is no end to the hell that awaits him. Sick. Sick. Sick. And twisted as all get out.
The best thing for the world and Islam is to allow the Shia and Sunnis to fight to the death.
This is one time that we need to be helping both sides.
The Texican.
Freedom, the only choice at any cost.
ISLAM Equals Total Madness....
it is no wonder why they need a high birth rate, as
they kill enough of each other. like l said earlier, stand back, let them wipe each other, and
when someone with a brain cell make peace and get
civilized, bring in Democracy, and destroy Islam as
it is today! it's always bleakest before the light shines on!!
Sorry to point out the obvious, but what bloody monsters. Killing is apparently a Muslim "right". No problem. But god forbid any infidel kills a Muslim (even accidentally) and there is no end to the hell that awaits him.
Wafa Sultan's book has the title "The Escaped Prisoner: When God Is a Monster"
Hopefully, she will find out that God is loving and merciful. Only mahomet's invention allah is a monster, like the inventor himself. (the actual pagan moon-god was, at worst, benign)
Check out this video, (I remember someone else linking to this video, do not remember who)

This woman will be a target for sure.

patriot2 - it looks like CNN has removed the video already.
No texican we don't need to 'help both sides'
We need to get out and butt out and let them sort out their own differences.... there has been enough 'help'.
What the West needs to do is sort out the muslim problem in their own countries and to protect their own borders
Add my voice to the cry: "Bring our soldiers home!" Talk about your shock and awe--neither side would be able to belive it, if we did that.
I agree that we need troops defending our own borders, and I don't see why the US government is so reluctant to use its military in that way.
To me, the idea that we're so strong that we don't need border defenses, is just a wee bit arrogant.
Sure, Iran is a threat. And I'm not a sophisticated person, but as far as I've seen, we've been more or less impotent, in Iraq. Each day, in the news we hear reports of yet another terrorist attack, in the vicinity of where our troops are placed. We aren't helping, we aren't deterring these attacks. All we are doing is sitting there, so that the rest of the world can't point its collective finger, and ask: "Where was the US, when this (or that) happened?"
Caroline thanks, I missed the post on DW. I have been unable to read JW/DW as much as I like to. I have been at the hospital far too often.
The essence of the problem is that Mohammad, compared to Jesus, the Buddha, Confucius, etc., is a moral imbecile.
Basing either side of the faith, Sunni or Shi'ite, on this model leads to endless warfare with the outside world.
When the schism in Islam set the 'This Religion is Our Family Inheritence' Clan of the Shi'ites against the 'Islam an Open Tribal Power Game' Clan of the Sunnis, they internalized this eternal conflict.
We need to sequester them while they work this out in Mecca- so that their internal religious war need no longer be the world's.
Whichever wins the communal struggle to lead the Muslim faithful, they each still ultimately intend to wage a global battle for the triumph and tyranny of Islam.
We can fight that, as we will, once Islam straightens out its own spiritual house.
We aren't going anywhere.
(Except maybe the Moon, Mars, and Titan, -along with Alpha Centauri, a little later.)
The more the faithful clash within Islam, the more chance there will be that the wildest fanatics will weed themselves out, -in the old gangland hit-for-a-hit method so popular within the Muslim code of "honor".
They need to resolve their own religious disputes before troubling the world with their violence.
But that takes what their religious extremists keep killing off: honest opposing voices.
That they aren't shamed for that, from every corner, betrays the strange, suicidal mindset in the West. Afraid to criticize the indifferently brutal in another faith out of some guilty spinelessness.
That tide will turns as more Korans are read.
I hear the keels creaking.
patriot2 - thanks for the new link. How truly gruesome. I get the sense of people feeling the need to literally BE God in the way they mete out "justice". (And can we expect an outcry from the Muslim world at what is being done here to Muslims, which is obviously much worse than anything going on at Gitmo?)
The gruesomeness (e.g.bodies dragged in the street) reminds me of the pictures I've seen at Shiva's website, although I think this is mostly Muslim on infidel violence:
