UK cemetery bars burials of all but Muslims

4,000 holes in Blackburn, Lancashire, and in not one of them can a non-Muslim be buried. "Confusion as mourners are turned away," from the Times Online, with thanks to Douglas Murray:

A COUNCIL was accused last night of responding to the local government strike by barring burials at its cemetery for anyone who was not Muslim. Funeral directors who attempted to arrange Christian interments at the council-run cemetery in Blackburn, Lancashire, were told that it would be closed throughout yesterday due to the industrial action.

Families were forced to re-arrange funeral plans and other mourners were told that they would not be allowed to visit the cemetery to read its book of remembrance.

Undertakers were subsequently outraged to discover that the closure would apply only to Christian burials.

The local authority had ruled that an emergency service would be provided for Muslims, who — by religious tradition — must be buried as soon as possible after their death.

Just wheel those infidel bodies to the Albert Hall, since "now they know how many holes it takes to fill..."

This is Jack Straw's constituency...

...funny coincidence!

4,000 holes in Blackburn, Lancashire

That's my joke - you half-inched it.

It seems Condoleezza Rice's planned visit to a Blackburn mosque has been cancelled.

Safety concerns meant the visit to the Masjide Al Hidayah mosque on Millham Street had to be cancelled.

Well, visiting religious buildings can be very hazardous. Why, only the other day, a Bishop fell behind a rood screen and nearly lost his Bishopric.

Interested:

Sorry. I didn't mean to "half-inch" your joke. In fact, I didn't see your comment until just now. What does it mean to "half-inch" a joke?

Maybe Condi is afraid that one or more of those 4,000 holes could be inside the Masjide Al Hidayah.

Cordially
Robert Spencer

"Half-inch" is Cockney rhyming slang for "pinch" or purloin, but this is not appropriate because you made it up yourself and Blackburn is a long way from the sound of Bow Bells.

I don't know what you thought half-inch meant, and perhaps it's best that you don't tell me.

Perhaps Blackburn will soon join countless other places as one of Islam's holy sites.

I already detect an inchoate clash between sharia (assuming it mandates internment procedures) and English law. If the police find a decedent and suspect "foul play," will a coroner be barred from making an examination because the procedure will "delay" the burial? This could result in the underreporting of "honor killings," since the victims' deaths couldn't be ruled homicides by the coroner.

No, it wouldn't. I know that from a personal experience which I can't discuss here.

Presumably, though, this exemption ought to be available for Jews as well.

So Christians and other non-Muslims all like to leave dead bodies of relatives and friends lying around, do they? Or is it that non-Muslims can with impunity be bumped from the burial queue, because authorities know that they will do nothing, will not raise hell, will not physically assault anyone, will not riot. There is something wrong here. Can the local Council in Blackburn, Lancashire, figure it out, unaided? Or shall we help?

MMmmm, I would think that a city owned cemetery couldn't deny a Christian burial.

As Hugh likely knows, Judaism requires prompt burials too, usually within 24 hours unless there's a holy day that delays the burial.

But no, this whole story is insane, and not only because of the exemption for Muslim burials on religious grounds. The government should be ordering striking cemetary workers back to work along with any other strikers whose jobs are similarly vital to public health and order.

.......and so the building of Eurabia continues. Why is there no outrage over this type of apartheid on home soil? All of the advances in human rights and equality that our forefathers have fought and died for are now being stripped away one by one until....

I fear how this will end.

Outrageous that invaders can dictate to the natives on their own soil. muslims should have to send their dead back to the Kaaba, after all it is the religion of death.

Robert,

I think "half-inch" is Estuary/Cockney slang for pinch. Btw this story is incredible even for a dhimmi country like mine. But then again Blackburn is your mill-n-mosque town to boot.

A dead body is either buried or is cremated. If the former, then aside from the day or two that might be given over to preparations for the wake and then the wake (open or closed casket), that as soon after the funeral as possible that burial be prompt. Obviously if a body is lying in state, or if there are other reasons why a funeral takes time to arrange, then other considerations may take over. It is noted above at several postings that Jews, like Muslims, wish bodies to be buried as soon as possible. What about Christians? Even if there is no specific demand, surely it cannot be that those in this city in Lancashire should be expected not to care about such matters, or to have a lesser degree of anxiety about it. That's not for members of some Council to decide. Or is it?

Bury me not on the lone prairie.

Oh, I give up.

Go on, Straw, lick the Muslim bodies clean, too.

But throw Christian and Jewish on the dung heap - why not?

I've been to quite a few Christian funerals in Lancashire, and the average wait between the death and the burial/cremation has been a week and a half.

Jewish funerals, and, from what I hear, Muslim ones, are generally a lot quicker.

A disgrace. What is happening to this ocuntry. Muslims are being given more and more, and demanding more and more. We are being dhimmified by our government. How dare they allow funerals for muslims but not Christians in a Christian country. We are being played like fools. Everything in the media is slanted to make the muslims the victims, they call it "positive discrimination" I call it racism. Time people woke up, grew a back bone and stopped thinking that everything will be all right if you just keep your head down and don't rock the boat. We are being laughed at as weak, not honoured as fair minded.

What is happening to this ocuntry

I don't know about dhimmified, but it is certainly becoming feminised.

lol, oops typo.

By all means, expedite the filling of the graves in the new Muslim burial yard. Don't make them wait, not a day longer.

"But I'm not dead yet!" THUMP!

Hugh:

My second point was that the striking cemetary workers should be ordered back to work by the level of government so empowered as they provide an essential service. Even athiests may prefer that the departed be buried or cremated with all due haste for both health and emotional reasons.

My point about Jewish practices is that no such exceptional treatment was mentioned for any deceased Jews, just Muslims.

Another outdated tradition. Made sense when you are in a hot climate with no refrigeration.

Makes absolutely NO sense now.

It's like the old riddle:

"Which weighs more, a pound of lead or a pound of feathers?"

Islam is piling feather after feather after feather on the infidels' "liberal democracy" scales.

And, while a single overwhelming insult would be met in the West with outrage (like 9/11), 10 thousand little shocks like this funereal nonsense will eventually add up to the same thing:

-the slo-mo overthrow of the West.

Through its own passivity, ignorance and agreeable decency.

Smothered by feathers.

One by one.

Soft. Tickly. Deadly.

Mohammedan cadavers should be shipped back to wherever they came from at the expense of their relatives.

Allowing them to bury their dead in the soil of Dar'al harb will only encourage them in their misguided belief that they have a legal claim to all of the infidel lands.

In Arabia it is not possible to bury infidels, they have to be returned for burial to their home countries. It is high time to insist on reciprocal arrangements.

Bury all of them in dar ul Harb. In a million years, they'll become petroleum, and our oil dependence will be history.

I am writing these comments with pain in my heart, but sadly, they are true:the fit will survive, and that doesn`t necesarily mean the physically fit...
The western, christian nations have lost their ability to procreate, which in itself would be enough for the civilized world`s demise.
But that is not all,the west has become complacent, lazy, uncapable of common sense judgements, unwilling to antagonize the enemy, unwilling to give up a cvasi-comfortable life of instant gratification, unwilling to defend its religion, unwilling to protect its national heritage, moral values, language, borders and culture.
Islam,on the other hand is producing millions of militant muslims, ready to die for the cause of Allah, they make whatever is necesary to convert weak minded westerners to their satanic religion, while killing anyone who deserts islam and preventing anyone from trying to preach christianity in islamic countries.
Muslim tell us they want to take over our countries and wipe out christianity, and we say that is not real islam, islam is a religion of peace, the extremists are a tiny minority.
Muslim behead christians on tv,and we continue to give them humanitarian financial help by the billion of dollars.
Muslim burn churches allover the world and we are building mosques in our own backyards, and paying for it.
In other words, they are fit and they will survive,we are weak and we will perish.
Our leaders want it,our national media wants it,our politicians want it,even our religios leaders have accepted it.
What some of us,regular folks want is not important for the president, for the government or for anyone else other than ourselves.

Here is another desert rule - from the desert religion - a body must be buried the next day because of the desert heat. No?

Questioning the desert God and the desert Prophet is strictly a forbidden exercise.

But you know how they get when they get angry - kaboooom - and there are a lot of dead bodies all over the place. With out a doubt if they can't bury their dead the next day, they will want to kill some one. So this I am sure is for the safety and security of all concerned.

Can't they be dug up again and reburied at a later date to compensate for all those people who pay their taxes who have not been able to bury their loved ones?
