News from our friend and ally Pakistan on the eve of Bush's visit. From AP, with thanks to all who sent this in:
A suicide attacker rammed a car packed with explosives into a vehicle carrying an American diplomat in Pakistan's largest city, killing four people - including the diplomat - ahead of President Bush's visit to Pakistan.Bush condemned the attack near the U.S. Consulate and a luxury hotel in Karachi, and said "terrorists and killers" would not prevent him from going to Pakistan on the final leg of his tour of South Asia.
I'm glad he didn't say "jihadists". We mustn't offend the Muslims, even when they are killing our diplomats.
I thought terrorists were killers. Isn't Mr. President being redundant? I guess that point is not so important since he is destroying the country. No reason to notice that he and his writers are illiterate.
I'm sure Bush will bring the "terrorists and killers" to justice. Ya right.....
With friends like Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, who needs enemies?
Is Karachi itself on his itenarary? Maybe the Secret Service should look into this.
Terrorists & Killers? Comes from the same genre as misunderestimated.
He should quote the Quran to his hosts. And maybe Pakistani protesters would quote the Quran back to him. Since he wont listen to us, maybe he will listen to them.
Yes, dare not offend Muslims. Afterall, Christians, Hindus, Buddhists and Jews are blowing themselves up everyday in order to murder people....oh wait...nevermind.
How much crediblity does Bush have anymore? His deafness is bewildering.
Not mine; please pardon the reposting.
Wanda at Belmont:
[...] I think that if this shift in Western opinion is happening (and I think it is) much more than just the ports deal is dead. President Bush is in imminent danger of finding himself left behind by the American people, and he doesn't seem to realize it. He could soon be in the same position as the leaders and spokesmen of the EU - a font of noble-sounding platitudes and maxims that nobody pays attention to anymore. Meanwhile, he will have lost his ability to sway his own people's hearts and minds, because he invested everything in the cause of winning the enemy's hearts and minds. All the emphasis has been on persuading Muslims to change; how was it possible that nobody thought that WE might change too? That never entered into the calculations; it always seemed to be a given that the West would be eternally patient, open, and willing to woo the reluctant Muslim world. But while President Bush has been anxiously hovering over his delicate Islamic plant, watching for any promising little green shoot that might repay all his efforts, behind him his own garden has changed into a dangerous, bristling jungle. When he finally turns around, he won't know where he is anymore.
Bush is heading to Islamabad.
Islam.
A Bad.
Hmmmm. Maybe his apologists can make something of that as evidence for his supposed secret knowledge of what Islam is really all about?
See, he doesn't go to Islamagood, now does he?!
And how can our diplomats be so goddamned stupid as to drive around in a detectable vehicle in this jihadist craphole?
I'm so glad the $2 Billion US we sent to help them after the earthquake won so many hearts and minds in Pakistan.
We are helping to prop up the rotting hulk of Islam -- dar al Islam -- the House of Islam -- under whose roof the most evil plots and plans are being nurtured, under whose roof the idolators of this false demonic religioin dream and pray for our anihilation ---
Not one dollar more. Not one dime more. Not one penny more. Leave them in the gutter of their own creation. Let Muslims rot in their rathole nations, their cesspool societies, their sewer strewn domains. They deserve every scrap of suffering they endure in their kingdom of hatred and loathing.
You think Bush will go to Pakistan unarmed? He'll be wearing a state of the art bulletproof jacket, 300 US secret service, 1500 Pakistani troops, 35 rooftop snipers, 20 Apache helicopters, 10 heavy armour vehicles and a 45 caliber pistol as his sidearm......hmmmmm.....what will the jihadist think of next.....get a bigger bomb ! result is 1. New President 2. Pissed off Americans 3. Any country messing with us will be in BIG trouble 4. Your oil will be all ours in 3 years.....mwahahahaha !
Bush said "terrorists and killers" would not prevent him from going to Pakistan on the final leg of his tour of South Asia.
If you were a terrorist, what fame through out Islam would you have if you attacked the leader of the great Satan America even if you did not injury or kill him???
It would not be surprising if the terrorists will be like flies around the honey pot during President Bush's visit to Pakistan. It will be interesting.
The Texican.
Freedom, the only choice.
From posting above:
if "behind [Mr.Bush] his own garden has changed into a dangerous, bristling jungle", it mayn't be a bad thing... I would posit that if we have become intolerant any longer of the long Muslim wails and baleful demands for us to change while they continue rampaging, hating, and killing, if we have become exhausted waiting for them to reform their dispicable hatred spewing "religion"-- if we are no longer willing to sit and take their abuse, live with their omnipresent threats, tolerate their primitive violence, their philobarbarism, or endure their venomous hatred, or listen to their hypocritical finger wagging finger jabbing lectures, but are now focused on turning against them in earnest for the mortal enemies they have shown themselves to be... then I say GOOD!
"Bristling"? "Dangerous"? To whom? -- if we bristle now (and finally) at Muslims, if we're willing (finally) to counter their vociferous threats towards us and repudiate their murderous never ending attacks against us... I we have finally become TRULY dangerous back at them, that is, if we're finally willing to drop all the pleasant hollow daydreams and pretexts of "getting along" with the inimical Muslim filth infesting our domain and without -- I say GOOD.
I also say 'It's about time!'
PS: I'm a great fan of overheated, sometimes necessary prose...
George -- as long as you are giving away our nuclear know-how to India; our ports to your cronies in UAE; I suppose that this little ... er, uh, ... incident (calling it cold blooded murder might be too offensive) ... leaves a job opening for your new found pals in HAMAS.
I'm sure they're more qualified than any American citizen you could find back home.
OBTW, did you ever check on the backgrounds of those in charge of security for this poor diplomat?
Sounds like he might have been ... you know ... compromised? Ah, what the hell -- you can hire someone cheaper I suppose.
Thanks George!
What would happen in the U.S.if Bush were assassinated in Pakistan?
Perhaps Bush is more aware of islam than is commonly believed and in his despair he is offering himself on the altar because he believes his termination would cause the West to recognise islam for what it really is....evil putrefaction.
Sarcasm
Marilyn-
Or would there be an immediate condemnation by "moderate" imams of such an act (to cover up the global celebrations of the "Muslim street")?
I think Bush is so suspect that even his death at the hands of jihadists wouldn't change the minds of those in the West, or even America, who dislike (or despise) him. They might even be dancing along with the jihadists. (On their own future graves, though they would not have the prescience to grasp it.)
Those who support him and those who would be simply infuriated that any bunch of maniacs would attack our symbolic representative (whatever we think of him as a mere man), would be left to try to rouse the unmoved people (who would be saying: "Well, he asked for it, getting the poor Muslims so mad!") from their suicidal stupor -and into a serious response to terrorizing Islamic Imperialism.
If such a thing had happened in 2002, the answer would have been clear: -total war.
Now, I have my doubts....
I wish the President an interesting trip to the Islamic nuclear-armed hellhole of Paki[Jihadi]stan.
May something finally wake him from his democratic sleep.
And may our next president be a true war leader.
With the cunning of a Churchill, the stirring qualities of an FDR or JFK.
And the steel balls of a Teddy Roosevelt.
Don't worry about George; he has a way of taking care of himself. Lot's of luck if you're a lowly diplomat.
Actually, if something were to happen to him I would be mad; I may not shed too many tears but it would not set well with me at all.
George is our President; even if he is in my opinion rather obtuse; and putting the rest of us in mortal danger by his malfeasance, dereliction of duty, and questionable loyalties.
Nevertheless, in any case -- George will be fine.

I disagree here. I think that Mike Brown should be put in charge of global aid operations in all Islamic countries. Let's hope he pulls off there what he pulled off in Katrina.
