US informant tells British court he stockpiled weapons

This is, you may recall, the character who won 15 minutes of fame shortly after 9/11 for announcing that he was on the other side after his mother narrowly escaped death in the Twin Towers. From Reuters, with thanks to Shinolite:

LONDON (Reuters) - A U.S. informant, said by prosecutors to be an accomplice of seven Britons accused of planning bomb attacks, told a London court on Monday he had stockpiled weaponry and ingredients for the deadly poison ricin.

Mohammed Babar, 31, a Pakistan-born American who has admitted terrorism-related offences in the United States, said he had kept bomb-making material and detonators at his home in Lahore, Pakistan, which he intended to smuggle into Britain....

Babar has admitted in closed U.S. hearings trying to acquire the ingredients for what American authorities call "the British bomb plot," the court was told....

Babar told the court on Monday the detonators were brought to his apartment in June 2003 to be taken to "Europe or the UK" and were stored in a closet with a fan used to keep them from exploding.

Asked what else was kept in the closet Babar replied: "Ammonium nitrate, aluminum powder, ricin, the propane stove, urea -- instead of using ammonium nitrate you can use urea to make a bomb too."

He said the "ricin beans" had been brought from Islamabad. The chemical weapon ricin is made from castor beans.

"There were times when something came about like poisoning water supplies and stuff like that or poisoning people," he said.

He's originally from Palestine. Here's a brilliant video that you may or may not have seen about the lies the Palestine Muslims have been saying about Israel.

its called Pallywood, its about 18 minutes long

Ricin? Smuggle it into Great Britian?

This man is greatly mislead. He doesn't need no fancy poisons. If he'd just listened to the good, practical life lessons of Imam Hamza he'd be better appraised of the poison situation.

One of my favorite Quotes:

We ask Muslims to . . . bleed the enemies of Allah anywhere by any means. You can’t do it by nuclear weapon, you have to do it by kitchen knife, no other solution. You can’t do it by chemical weapons, you have to do it by mice poison.”

Abu Hamza al-Masri - former imam of Finsbury Park mosque, London

mohammed babar sounds like a true American. Earmark, deport, to the sandbox in pak. I for one, am so furious at beings such as these, take his genitals off, for he, given what he would do, would gladley rape, tortour and kill my child. SCUM!

Thank you, thank you!
Wow! The Palestinian BS machine as I've never seen it...That was one of the best connections ANYONE has ever given me. My brother is a journalist at the Washington Post and I am going to make him watch it right now..

A Yahoo! search on castor beans makes it seem like one could get them just about anywhere. According to Wikipedia (a grain of salt with those beans), "more than 1 million metric tonnes of castor beans are processed each year, and approximately 5% of the total is rendered into a waste containing high concentrations of ricin toxin." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ricin ) So, these guys were't doing themselves a favor having it hauled all the way from Islamabad if they were trying to be sneaky.

It also doesn't take much: the ricin content of one or two pulverized castor beans can be lethal to humans.

It sounds like the means of introduction is either by ingestion or shrapnel. Delivered by a bomb, with ball bearings or nails, as they're fond of including, that would be one savage and messy weapon, as even "minor" wounds would turn lethal. Of course, the secondary wave of casualties seems to be a signature of the Islamic terrorist attack nowadays.

But since the castor bean is so easy to get a hold of, what will be telling, once it's divulged, will be the money trail and means of acquisition for the ammonium nitrate, aluminum powder, and other ingredients.

Thinking over the article a bit more, I may be conflating two plots in my post above. In that regard, I hope I'm more creative than they are.

Canadian I wouldn't call that threat "credible" rpgs coming in on aircraft? Not likely, also, arriving in Oct 2005 and they did what with them? Stored them in a shed waiting on a good time to use them? Explosives are easier to make than ship, fly or drive risking detection, especially if you have a long way to go and have to store them. The threat was far from credible.

I had a colorful youth, patriot2.

Better take it seriously, Ronin. The Northeast Intelligence Network has a very good record and has proven itself very scrupulous. They care about security against terrorism and other global threats to a degree second to none.

Don't be so quickly dismissive.

You don't need the MSM to tell you something to take it seriously. The MSM would probably just report AFTER the attacks.

OT

But didn't see this?

Alleged UNC campus crasher said he wanted to use a gun
Associated Press
HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. - A man charged with trying to kill students by hitting them with a car said he would have preferred using a gun but screening laws were too stringent, according to a letter read at a hearing in his case.
Mohammed Taheri-Azar drove a Jeep Cherokee into a crowd of students March 3 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and hit nine people, none of whom had life-threatening injuries.
A police officer read the typed letter in court Friday.
"I would instead use a handgun to murder the citizens and residents of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, but the process of receiving a permit for a handgun in this city is highly restricted and out of my reach at present, most likely due to my foreign nationality," the letter said.
Taheri-Azar, a 2005 graduate of the school, also had two cans of pepper spray and folding knife in the rented vehicle. He has said the act was to avenge deaths of Muslims caused by the U.S. around the world.
"I do not wish to pursue my career as a student any further because I have no desires to amass the impermanent and temporary fame and material wealth that this world has to offer," the letter said
"However, I made the decision to continue my studies and to graduate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill so that the world will know that Allah's servants are very intelligent.

SO SOMEONE WAS ON THE BALL NOT TO LET THIS CREEP HAVE A GUN!!

Saddam, Al Qaeda Did Collaborate, Documents Show
By ELI LAKE - Staff Reporter of the Sun
March 24, 2006
CAIRO, Egypt - A former Democratic senator and 9/11 commissioner says a recently declassified Iraqi account of a 1995 meeting between Osama bin Laden and a senior Iraqi envoy presents a "significant set of facts," and shows a more detailed collaboration between Iraq and Al Qaeda.
In an interview yesterday, the current president of the New School University, Bob Kerrey, was careful to say that new documents translated last night by ABC News did not prove Saddam Hussein played a role in any way in plotting the attacks of September 11, 2001.
Nonetheless, the former senator from Nebraska said that the new document shows that "Saddam was a significant enemy of the United States." Mr. Kerrey said he believed America's understanding of the deposed tyrant's relationship with Al Qaeda would become much deeper as more captured Iraqi documents and audiotapes are disclosed.
Last night ABC News reported on five recently declassified documents captured in Iraq. One of these was a handwritten account of a February 19, 1995, meeting between an official representative of Iraq and Mr. bin Laden himself, where Mr. bin Laden broached the idea of "carrying out joint operations against foreign forces" in Saudi Arabia. The document, which has no official stamps or markers, reports that when Saddam was informed of the meeting on March 4, 1995 he agreed to broadcast sermons of a radical imam, Suleiman al Ouda, requested by Mr. bin Laden.

The strangest episode came from an appearance by Senator Jay Rockefeller on Fox News Sunday:
WALLACE: OK. Senator Rockefeller, the president says that Democratic critics, like you, looked at pre-war intelligence and came to the same conclusion that he did. In fact, looking back at the speech that you gave in October of 2002 in which you authorized the use of force, you went further than the president ever did. Let's watch:
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
ROCKEFELLER: I do believe that Iraq poses an imminent threat, but I also believe that after September 11th that question is increasingly outdated.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
WALLACE: Now, the president never said that Saddam Hussein was an imminent threat. As you saw, you did say that. If anyone hyped the intelligence, isn't it Jay Rockefeller?
ROCKEFELLER: No. I mean, this question is asked a thousand times and I'll be happy to answer it a thousand times. I took a trip by myself in January of 2002 to Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Syria, and I told each of the heads of state that it was my view that George Bush had already made up his mind to go to war against Iraq, that that was a predetermined set course which had taken shape shortly after 9/11. [emphasis added]
What was the second-ranking Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee doing in Syria, a country which perennially finds itself among the top listings of terrorist-sponsoring nations, discussing President Bush's decision-making on the war on terror with Bashar Assad, one of the worst sponsors of terror in the months after 9/11?

A GOOD READ AND WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO PUT HIM IN JAIL???

Canadian I understand they are good I just don't see the logic behind that threat. Doesn't matter if I think it's true or not. Like patriot2 says, someone is always planning an attack. I'd guess his first name is mohammud. I do agree on not waiting for the MSM, I almost never watch the news anymore, don't trust them. If it makes you feel better if someone on 9/10 would have told me someone would steel a plane and crash it, I'd have dismissed that one too

... poisoning water supplies and stuff like that or poisoning people...

Is this dude one rock-solid Moslem or what.

Like I said, armed Islamist insurrection is not far off.

The mainstream media - and what regards itself as (but isn't) elite opinion - really needs to stop trying to prove how broad-minded it is by stroking the ego of Islamic opinion. The Religion of Peace ™ myth has to go.

To be sure not all Muslims wish to do terrible things (although, note, a significant proportion of those who don't, aquiesce in their commission by those who do). However, those who are most harmless will be those who have least concern with Islamic religious doctrine - probably, people whose primary conception of Islam is in terms of the rituals is prescribes rather than the doctrines it teaches. The religion itself is a problem and, pace Brian Whitaker, Tony Blair, Prince Charles et al, seems to have been so at all times and in all places; sometimes perhaps in less drastic ways; frequently, in appalling ways.

When the keener sort of Muslim is not venting his ire for real or imagined grievances against the infidels, or simply looking to assert himself against them, he will turn and attack his co-religionists.

Breaking news from the BBC:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/4852132.stm

It's unfortunate if Brian Whitaker cannot (or will not) recognize and comprehend that there is a deep pathology here. But this is Whitaker's problem not Robert Spencer's and not ours.

I'll return to the statement I made in my first paragraph about people who are "trying to prove how broad-minded" they are. This is a form of sentimentality. I think this philosopher is right to assert, in a different context, that:

... sentimentality plays a central role in post-modern culture - it is the mask with which fantasy conceals its cynical self-regard.

source

I think some people (at the Guardian and elsewhere) need to take a hard look at their attitudes and at themselves - stop preening and start thinking and writing in a more sincere manner, which means, above all, taking the time to inform themselves rather than trundling out meretricious ready-made attitudes.

"For a believing Muslim, to create is a rash and dangerous act."

- from p.69 of The Creators by Daniel Boorstin

Ricin was used in an assassination attempt in London in the late 1970s or early 1980s.

A Bulgarian refugee was targeted on the Waterloo Bridge, as I recall. He was waiting for a bus, and the assassin poked him in the heel with an umbrella. The umbrella inserted a small, porous metal ball which contained ricin in the pores. I do not remember any longer whether or not the man survived, and, actually, I think there were two attempts over a period of about a year. I believe that one man survived and the other did not. This was written up in the Wall Street Journal at the time, and I have seen pictures of the ball since then. It was made of platinum, I believe. The Soviets were suspected as the ultimate sponsors of the attacks. I think the target worked for the BBC.

Sorry for all the ambiguity. At any rate, ricin is a deadly poison, and it can be used as a blood poison and a stomach poison.

However, I suspect that the heat of a bomb blast may destroy it, rendering it useless as an enhancement to shrapnel.

I remember a castor-bean tree (shrub), in the neighborhood when I was a child. It belonged to a doctor, and his wife always cautioned us not to eat or pick the seeds because they were poisonous. It was an interesting plant, and eventually it was dug up and destroyed.
