YOUNG Muslims should not be discouraged from joining the police force, NSW Premier Morris Iemma says.His comments follow a media report that as few as 24 of the state's 15,000 officers are practising Muslims.
The report said young Muslims who want to join the police force don't sign up because they feel unwanted.
But Mr Iemma dismissed the suggestion today, saying young Muslim cops were active and effective in his electorate of Lakemba, in Sydney's south-west.
"I can speak from personal experience where there are young Muslim men who are police officers and do a very good job in my electorate of liaising with the local ethnic community," he told reporters.
"(The force) quite deliberately seeks to recruit from the non-English speaking community."
Mr Iemma called on interested young Muslims to join the force as part of a massive recruitment drive, announced by the government in the wake of the Cronulla race riot.

I live in Toronto Canada and our Police force had its Uniform designed to be relegously neutral to assure everyone of the perception that Justice was served and a unbias judgement call was made during disputes.
But along came the Multiculturalism of the late 70's and every yahoo with a chip on their shoulder expected everyone else to adjust to their short-comings and personal bias towards at least one group from their original homeland.
While the jewish population understood that some jobs were not suited for the personal tenets of their faith that dictated some type of dress that restricted activities for certain jobs, the new wave of special interest groups had a agenda to impose their faith By-Proxy since our new "Charter Of Rights" enshrined freedoms to practise relegion in the Public domain.

Because of this obsurd demand while the Threatre chain offered all the same Movies at that building to be shown at accessible cinemas , the person still pushed the issue and the cost was so high the Theatre closed and during demolition of a perfectly good historic site one of the unsupported walls fell and killed one person and injured several foreigners at a ESL class in the next unit.
My point is that today we have Police Officers that are allowed to promote their religion while on duty and be afforded the luxury of not doing dangerous work in the Riot Squads if they have some type of head dress they can't remove to put on a helmet.
I don't want to know the faith of the Cop that answer my call about a violent neighbour or crime by some local punk, I just want to feel I'm treated fairly under the law for protection and how can that be if my Sikh neighbour or Muslim one causes a dispute and the Cop shows up in a Hijab or Turban.

Iemma's electorate is one heavily populated by Muslims. naturally he is going to kiss Muslim buttocks to ensure re-election.

Iemma has to say these things because his electorate has a high number of muslims. As a matter of fact Iemma owes his position to 'branch stacking' which is a system of getting a large number of loyal myrmidons to vote for you in order to be the endorsed candidate for your party. In return you lavish goodies on your support base (money for a youth centre, perhaps more money for language classes, and maybe get a government department to open an office in your electorate with employment opportunities...that type of thing). In most countries it would be considered sailing close to corruption but in Australia it's called politics.

Zathras, I used to think the same, but from what I have seen, the new NSW opposition leader (Debnam) seems to be on the ball in this respect. I think he will make good use of Iemma's weaknesses in the upcoming election. Here's hoping!
Yeah, that's the solution? And Australia can solve its drug problem by getting drug-dealers to join the police and can solve the problem of violent crime by recruiting rapists and murderers into to the police as well!
Hey, Iemma, can solve two problems at once... Why not just release everybody in prison and swear 'em in as cops? It's the same same logic as recruiting Muslims.
I can see it now. A battered wife calls the police and a muslim shows up telling the husband he had a right to beat his wife into submission.
Or the raped woman. The muslim cop comes up and tells her she was asking for it by dressing immodestly. And then he rapes her or kills her for adultery.
A poor child is lost or taken and when found by the muslim cop, he has sex with the child.
A non muslim shop owner calls the cop for theft and the perp is muslim, the muslim cop says he can steal because its from an infidel.
