More than 30 neighbours in the building knew what was happening but said nothing about the crime, part of a worrying wave of attacks against Jews all over the country.
Besides Yalda, several women have been arrested in an investigation into their role in botched efforts to lure other Jewish men into “honey traps”.
“He wanted a Jew,” a girl called Audrey told police, referring to Youssouf Fofana, the charismatic leader of the Barbarians, who was listed by the girls in their telephone directories as “Youssouf the barbarian”.

I find this hard to believe for several reasons
1) Abductions are virtually non-existent in Portugal (I suspect the same to be true within the Portuguese and Luso-descendents in France)
2) The Portuguese community in France has moved on to better neighbourhoods than those currently inhabited by the magrebines
3) The name of the gang and its meaning is hardly something that a Frenchman (let alone a Portuguese) would choose.
4) There is no antisemitism in Portugal and in Portuguese culture (Communists are the exception) which can only be logical because there are virtually no Jews left over here
5) Portuguese tend to not associate themselves with North Africans for cultural and religious reasons (also understandable given the amount of pork we eat)
In other words, this sounds like a big crock of bs to turn this into an "immigrant thing" rather than a "Muslim thing". Until I see names that is all the importance I will give this story.
Certainly some non-Muslims, such as West Africans with Christian names, were involved in the obscenity. But I agree with Cruzado that I do not believe Portuguese were involved. A few barbarized French, perhaps, for much the same reason why white kids in America find it cool to act as black gangstas and pimps.

The fact that there are no Jews left there would seem to suggest that the Portugese are in fact anti-semitic, otherwise, why are there no Jews left? This reminds me of the claim that "moderate" Turkey is evidence that there is nothing for non-Muslims to fear from Muslims, which avoids the question of how it is that Turkey came to be 99% Muslim in the first place.
BTW, I know zero about the history of Portugal with respect to jews so it NOT my intention to imply that Portugese are anti-semitic. I have no earthly idea. I just found your statement curious is all and of course would welcome an education in this matter.
Re the overall point about this being an "immigrant" thing as opposed to a "Muslim" thing, I read recently that non-Muslim immigrants in the French banlieus have begun to absorb the anti-semitism of their Muslim neighbors.
Personally I hold a lot of westerners (including the native French themselves)in general responsible for not only this crime but also for the rampant racist crimes being perpretrated against native Europeans at the hands of 3rd world immigrants throughout Europe. Native westerners have persistently demonized not only Israel but also westerners in general (always holding both to a higher moral standard than they demand of anyone else in the world). The intellectual grounds for demonizing and blaming the west for the misfortunes of 3rd worlders are laid out in the Baran-Wallerstein revision of classical Marxist theory. Why then should it come as any surprise that immigrants would have absorbed these guilt-ridden, self-hating attitudes of westerners and come to believe western rhetoric that Jews and westerners are indeed directly responsible for the suffering experienced by 3rd world peoples everywhere? Something similar happened a year ago in Holland when a young Iraqi immigrant doused lighter fluid on his Dutch girl friend's body and set her alight - twice. The idiot even put an mp3 of a rap song on line in which he both expressed his regrets and wiped his guilt away.
I also remember reading about a lot of cases in countries like India and Paikstan where spurned suitors turn to violence (in the form of throwing acid on their ex-girl friends).
Muslims aren't just machos, they think they have a god given right to dominate and own women. The example is set by their father and they're taught to take control over their mother and sisters when they become men at age 12. Most of them have no experience around women since they live in gender segregated societies (but then again, when you have arranged marriages, why should they?). The end result is domineering spoiled brats who turn to violence when girl friends and wives don't give them what they want.

The Portuguese Jewish community declined since 1497 when king Manuel I issued the Expulsion Edit. The introduction of the Inquisition during the reign of his son (Dom João III) in 1530 (or 1531, I am not sure) only made things worse for the Jews, particularly those that were Conversos (fake Christians). Many Jews ended up in Brazil and in Holland. In 1580 Felipe II of Spain became king Filipe I of Portugal, which turned the Dutch and the Portuguese into enemies. The Dutch conquered Brazil from the Portuguese and the Jews helped them. In 1640, Portugal regained her independence from Spain and a few years later liberated Brazil (with native American assistance) from the Dutch occupation. The Portuguese Jews fled to Curaçao (have you ever questioned why a Dutch colony would have a Portuguese name?) and to New Amsterdam where they founded the first synagogue. In the beginning of the XIX century the already mortally wounded Inquisition was finally abolished in Portugal, but the Jewish community was by then virtually non-existant. During the XX century several synagogues and Jewish schools were reopened by descendents of Crypto-Jews, but abandoned after a short success. The thing is, many Portuguese have Jewish blood (some say that up to 7% of our gene pool is Jewish) but they were absorbed by the rest of the population.
Now, does that make the ordinary MODERN Portuguese an anti-semite? Nope, because we have more important things to worry about like the sorry state of our economy, or why the cost of living more than doubled in the past six years. If they can't manage Mexico properly then what is the goal of retaking the American southwest all about? To mismanage an even larger territory? We could then simply move the wall over and run it along a more northern line. It reminds me of the Muslims fleeing to Europe and then wanting to claim it as Muslim land and enforce Sharia and turn it into the same kind of places from which they fled in the first place. I assume that you are talking about the incident that happened last summer in a beach near Lisbon when around 500 Africans "cleaned" dozens of tourists at the beach in Carvavelos (near Lisbon). We haven't had anything of that proportion, but Africans are still disproportionally involved in violence and petty crimes (as are gypsies). Needless to say, and even though crime did increase, Lisbon is still much safer than most other European cities of equal size.
Returning to the beach incident: even though there were pictures of hundreds of Africans taking things from tourists, the official story stated that the robbers were less than 50 (which is an obvious lie told with the intent of minimizing the incident).
The truth is that any kind of uncontrolled immigration is a time bomb. And the fact that the immigrants may come from completely diferent societies only makes matters worse.
