Catholic priest arrested and expelled from Riyadh

Islamic Tolerance Alert from the Kingdom of the Two Holy Places. From Asia News, with thanks to Dave Hartline:

Riyadh (AsiaNews) – A Catholic Indian priest was yesterday forced to leave Saudi Arabia. He was discovered by the religious police as he organized a prayer meeting in the lead-up to Easter. Arrested on 5 April, he remained in police custody for four days and on Saturday 8th April he left for India. The practice of any religion other than Islam is forbidden in Saudi Arabia. Meetings held privately in people’s homes, among friends, are also banned.

The priest, Fr George Joshua, belongs to the Malankara rite of Kerala (India). His visit to Catholic Indians in the Saudi Kingdom was planned with his bishop’s permission.

On 5 April, Fr George had just celebrated mass in a private house when seven religious policemen (muttawa) broke into the house together with two ordinary policemen. The police arrested the priest and another person.

Oh my! A mass deportation.

I wonder, Where are the p.c. left and the Hollyweird left? Where are Danny Glover and Harry Belafonte? Where are Hillary and Teddy and JFKerry? These folks are all for immigration in our counrty for illegals. Here are legals in Fraudi Arabia, OUR FRIEND, that are being not only detained for no reason, but also deported for not being Muslim. For not practicing Islam because they're not Muslim but Catholic. Come on you immigration reformists, Where are your voices on Fraudi Arabia and their immigration policy?

Where is CAIR? Surely they will say something in the defense of religious freedom?

CAIR is only interested in religious freedom in America; Saudi Arabia's freedoms should be none of our concern, so they say.

CAIR's answer: convert everyone to islam and the problem will go away. Easy as pie...or falafel.

This is another example of the urgent need for reciprocity. If the Saudis want to fund and open mosques in Italy, Russia, Alabama or anywhere else they should be forced to allow other religions the same freedoms in Arabia. They expel a priest, we expel an imam. Just like trade or diplomacy, it must be a two-way street.

Sounds like Christianaphobia to me.

Fr George Joshua is lucky that he was not beaten to death by the religious police or tried in a sharriah court and then sentenced to death.

Or just maybe the recent difficulty of Abdul Rahman has put the "protected" cult under some strain, and has stayed their hands for a while. But they will be back. It is in the koran, and minor political difficulties of the present do not negate the koran.

Has anyone sent a link to the article or a synopsis of this to the Brave People running Dateline?

I think I'll send them another email and put them onto this - they're always trying to ferret out intolerance like the weasels they are....

I sent a note along to Dateline cast & crew about this issue:

Dear Dateline cast & crew:

If you're looking for stories on Islam, Muslims and intolerance - stop baiting NASCAR fans and start looking into our 'good friends and staunch allies' over in the House of Saud:

Thanks

It is our job, here in the anti-Jihad community, to publicize this sort of thing. It takes a long time for the mainstream press to wake up to things they don't want to admit to, let alone things that go against their multicultural dystopian bias. Until there is a critical mass of people who are even aware this is going on, the MSM won't touch it. At the very least, in conversation about the subject, mention what is going on in SA, write about it, if you write.

I sometimes think Robert and CatholicReport.org are the only sites that carry news items such as this. Think about it, there are over 1,000,000 Catholics alone in Saudi Arabia. I don't have statistics on the other Christian denominations. A few work in the oil business but most just do all of the dirty work for the royals. They fix their cars, wait on their tables and clean their toilets. These poor folks are mainly from the Philippines. All they would like to have is to have a church or a priest to make them feel at home. Now it seems one of the four priests allowed in the country is booted out. It seems his crime was leaving the walled compound and going to a private home. This is the thanks these poor Catholic laborers get for all of their hard work. One of the posters on CatholicReport.org site said she would like a policy for every new moque built in the West, a church is built in Saudi Arabia

Hey they are being very generous, the normal custom is to saw that Priests head off and put it on a stake in Mecca.

Did you ever have those 'wake up' moments? Mine came back during the first Gulf War when I read the outrageous religious restrictions on U.S. troops in Saudi - (the men we sent to save their asses!). Die for us but don't let us see you wearing a cross or star of David. You can pray if you take elaborate precautions to hide yourself etc. etc. I knew in my innermost gut that I hated loathed and despised these 'allies' of ours forever.

When will Pope Benedict XVI start talking like his medieval predecessor Innocent III? What's stopping him?

How does a man love according to divine precept his neighbor as himself when, knowing that his Christian brothers in faith and in name are held by the perfidious Muslims in strict confinement and weighed down by the yoke of heaviest servitude, he does not devote himself to the task of freeing them? ...Is it by chance that you do not know that many thousands of Christians are bound in slavery and imprisoned by the Muslims, tortured with innumerable torments?

--Pope Innocent III

when I read the outrageous religious restrictions on U.S. troops in Saudi

Not just US troops, my husband and I were seething in 1991 to watch a BBC newsbroadcast where, even to viewers in the UK, an army Padre with his soldiers was said to be conducting a "welfare meeting" (it was Christmas, they were singing O Come all ye Faithful)

The same Saudi Arabia is sending millions of oil money into Western countries, particularly to USA to promote the 'the Peaceful Wahabi Islam'into our educational Institutions, news medias and mosques. Islam is a "one way"religion compared to a Trap. This news were not printed by our medias, whom most of them have tasted the soiled oil money. If one is not allowed to pray to their God even in their own house, that shows the weakness of their God Allah ,who depends on his followers for his protection and dignity. In Afghanisthan, they wanted to kill Mr. Abdul Rehman when he declared he wanted to convert to Christianity, because their God is unable to punish Mr.Rahman,if he has taken a wrong path. We Christians leave those things to our all powerful God,and will never bother whether one converts to other religion ,or draw some cartoons defaming our God. It is because our Faith in ourGod that he will judge and punish,if he wants the person converned.,our God does not insturct us to carry out mas-murders,and yelling and throwing stones,to protect our God and religion.

I just hope the priests' head will be leaving on the same flight as his body.

This is the country that "has no problem with other religions'

They are just such a bunch of liars.

In Reply to poster "Television": Do not despair. I too prayed very hard that Benny 16 would not follow JPII's mistaken acts and attitude toward Islam. Read a very hope filled article posted at the following link:

www.chiesa.espressonline.it/dettaglio.jsp?id=48741&eng=y

It appears that with the Pope's blessing and even encouragement priests and bishops are beginning to display a more realistic attitude toward "the challenge of Islam" and what mass migration of Muslims into Europe means sans any "reform" of the jihad outlook. Seems that like Patti LaBelle sang Benny 16 has "A NEW ATTITUDE"

What was this priest doing in Saudi? Was he a Jesuit on a mission from Georgetown, a bag man picking up Esposito's monthly payment?

They are obviously not very secure in their religion. Why else would they be so terrified of the other religions? Let's face it, it's not really a religion, it's a form of mass control that got out of hand. Mohammed was a middle aged man who married children and spoke to god, we have a name for that in society and it certainly isn't prophet.

I feel sorry for these people. They have been subject to a twisted form of political control for seven hundred years and don't realise it. I mean, if they believe "allah" created the universe and is all powerful then why does he need them to do his bidding? When the bombs went off and the towers fell we heard that it was allahs will, but when a huge earthquake ripped through an islamic country shortly after these events there wasn't a peep. Now I'm no theologian but, if I was, I would say that that was a better sign of gods anger. Wouldn't you?

The more l learn about Islam the more l see cult written all over it! you look up the meaning of cult, and the Koran in on the top of the heap! It strangles any freedom, and takes away your family, and if you try to reform it, it makes you out as the enemy and death is your price! It controls every aspect of life, no separation of church and state.
l am just hoping in my life time that l see it destroyed!

To all those who asked why the Pope is not speaking like Innocent III or the like; apart from the fact that Innocent III's crusade ended up being the catastrophic Fourth Crusade, which fought Christians and strengthened Muslims, you just have to read the hate-soaked posts of people like Peter, Giaour or KJ to get the answer. If the Pope ever gave a lead like that, the whole assembled PC creepdom that still has a hold over the Western public - although it is, in my view, ever so slowly rotting away - would declare its own crusade against intolerant, queerbashing, witch-burning, tyrannical Catholics, and would then, for good measure, involve Evangelicals and possibly Orthodox in the rout. They are already panting for ways to suppress and fragment the Church. The Pope has no political power, and his followers are always at the mercy of whatever bee happens to buzz in whatever bonnet of whoever happens to rule any country. It is not so long ago that the Mexican government turned cannon against churches and monasteries, and the French republican and democratic government sent the Army to clear helpless monks out of the ancient and glorious Grande Chartreuse. Almost worse than our declared enemies in Islam, are their godfathers in the PC world.

poetcomic1:

You mean the Saudis actually allowed Jews to set foot on holy Arabian sand?

They must be getting slack or desparate.

This priest is a hero for me, I hope there will be more cases, more vocations, but the main battle is Europe, his recuperation to the faith, conversion of muslims and these muslims converted coming back to their countries.
In this holy week, I say WOW!

Paolo,

This survey should give you confort to know that the perception of Islam and to an extent the PC thinkers is sinking.

A Post Script to Paolo,

The global south is seeing a huge growth in new Christian members and these members are for the most part conservitive. They are also are being sent to the West to plant the seeds of spiritual revival and the the PCers are no match for these folks.

It is fortunate that no rabbis live or work in Saudi Arabia. If a rabbi were discovered holding private services, he would probably be killed immediately.
