A 21-year-old Georgia Tech student taken into federal custody last month has been charged with giving "material support" to a terrorist organization, according to a federal indictment unsealed Thursday.The student, Syed Haris Ahmed, a mechanical engineering major who had become increasingly religious in his Islamic faith, was arrested March 23 by the FBI.
Syed Ahmed, 21, was charged with helping a terrorist group. The FBI believes he attended a training camp in Pakistan last year, sources say. He was in religious school there, his family says.
"This is the first international terrorism charge ever filed in Georgia," said U.S. Attorney David Nahmias shortly after unsealing the indictment "The charge against Mr. Ahmed is serious and involves national security and will be prosecuted with that in mind."...
Family members said agents confiscated computer hard drives and data CDs from their home last month.
Ahmed told his family that authorities found a video on the Internet and apparently traced it to him. The video was of a building and was perhaps made during a trip with friends. Ahmed's family members said they did not know the location of the building or when the tape was made....
In a separate case that may be related, a 19-year-old Roswell man was arrested Monday in Bangladesh. Ehsanul Islam Sadequee was arrested by Bengali authorities after at least eight months of federal investigation of him and his family, his sister, Sharmin Sadequee, said Thursday.

Islamic Terrorists Targeting Private Planes
The TSA has issued a warning to owners of private aircraft: Extremists may target private US planes: TSA.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Transportation Security Administration has warned aircraft owners and airport managers that Muslim extremists may be targeting private American jets and urged them to boost security.
“On April 13, 2006, a message posted in Arabic on an Internet forum explained how to identify private American jets and urged Muslims to destroy all such aircraft,” the TSA said in an advisory issued on Thursday and obtained by Reuters on Friday.
The TSA quoted the Arabic message as saying: “We call upon all Muslims to follow and identify private civilian American aircrafts in all airports of the world.”
“It is the duty of Muslims to destroy all types of private American aircraft that are of the types Gulfstream and Lear Jet and all small aircraft usually used by distinguished (people) and businessmen,” it quoted the message as saying.
It said the message explained how to identify private U.S. jets and also provided the tail number of a private plane believed to be used by the CIA.

Airplanes and missiles...It could be that the wings of the plane folded back against the sides on impact and were dragged inside, rather than shearing off outside. The fact that rescue, body recovery, types of wreckaged removed, were never made public, to my knowledge, is suspicious at least. Yet there were people on cell phones on that plane discribing events. If it did not hit the Pentagon, what did it hit? Someone knows for sure if that was a plane or missile. Whoever that is, they aint talking...

US firm wants to invest in telecom sector: Gen Zinni due on 24th
ISLAMABAD, Oct 7: Former US Centcom chief, General Anthony Zinni, is arriving here on Oct 24 in his capacity as a director of a multinational company which wants to invest in Pakistan’s telecommunication industry.
A Pakistani-American who is a partner in Gen Zinni’s company, claims that the initial investment will be between $120 million to $150 million that might expand to $5 billion over a period of 10 years.
Talking to Dawn he said Gen Zinnie would stay here for two days. He said the general, who is special envoy of President Bush on the Middle East, would meet Pakistani high-ups but his schedule was still being worked out.
Asad Kazmi, the Pakistani American who represents the company in Pakistan, said the general was coming here “on the call of the people and the government of Pakistan.” President Musharraf, he said, in his visits to the US had urged the Pakistani community to invest in Pakistan. “And here I am,” he told Dawn . “I have brought a major American company with Gen Zinni as its director to come and invest in Pakistan.”
According to Mr Kazmi the major area of their interest is wireless local loop, long distance international, PTCL privatization, particularly GSM cellular license. He said his company is also exploring avenues in energy sector.
He claimed that the company he is representing was telecommunications giant with branches in 42 countries. This will be major investment venture in Pakistan after the controversial IPPs and, more specifically, 9/11.
Mr Kazmi said the general’s visit was purely business and not political. But the general has great love for Pakistan and has always supported it. He has also expressed his “fondness for Pakistan” in his correspondence with Pakistani concerns here. Company chairman Eric Ram has already visited Pakistan and interacted with several official and private concerns.
Mr Kazmi said one of the reasons for the investment is that “we want to dispel this impression that Pakistan has a security problem and does not have an investment-conducive environment.” The fact that the person of general Zinni’s standing, he said, was coming here to invest proved that Pakistan offered lot of potential.
“Believe me, Pakistan is one of the most underestimated places for investment,” he said, adding, “ this has been the primary reason that he has been able to convince his American counterparts.”

Nuclear Material Removed From Uzbekistan

VIENNA, Austria (AP) -- Spent nuclear fuel containing enough weapons-grade uranium to produce at least two bombs was safely returned to Russia from Uzbekistan this week in a high-security and classified operation, the U.N. nuclear watchdog agency disclosed Thursday.
The Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency said the operation, which was completed on Wednesday after six years of planning, was the first time since the breakup of the former Soviet Union that fuel used in a nuclear research reactor was returned to Russia.
The material - nearly 139 pounds of spent highly enriched uranium - was transported over 16 days in four high-security shipments to Russia's main nuclear waste processing plant in Mayak, the IAEA said in a statement.

Just anecdotally, there appear to be a fair number of potential jihadists who are enrolled at universities in the U.S. The most obvious explanation for that is the fact that a student visa is one of the primary conduits for obtaining entry into the US. Add to that the age factor of the average college student, 18-22 (a cohort associated with youthful passion, hormones raging etc) and you have the "perfect storm" for jihadist sympathies among our own college students of foreign-born, Muslim extraction.
But once these merely "nascent" jihadis arrive here and enroll in our universities, one can't help but reflect upon what it is they actually hear in our classrooms. Namely an endless indictment of America, as "imperialistic" and " criminal" and "genocidal" and "evil". We all know the score by now. So our own universities are at the forefront of actively feeding these latent grievances which already exist among those arriving at our shores (because it's already all they've ever known through the propoganda they were raised with) and thereby causing impressionable young men from the ME (or any Islamic hotbed), who might well have been just as susceptible to an entirely different world view, one they've never even been exposed to before given the prevalent anti-Americanism in their home countries - and basically encouraging them to adopt the hatred for the west that is so inherent in our own institutions of higher learning and which merely reinforces the assumptions they arrived here with in the first place.
It's not that I don't understand what our average, liberal college professors are trying to do. They are trying to get Americans to see things from the point of view of the "Other" (and I will give many of them the benefit of the doubt here for the sake of argument in assuming good intentions), because they believe this will reduce animosity between human beings. It's a noble goal I agree. Yes, of course the imperative to see things from the POV of the Other in order to reduce animosity between human beings is one of the most important goals of any civilized human being! (Muslims are exempted from this definition of "civilized" for the obvious reason that they, unlike 4/5ths of the human race, understand Nothing about seeing things from the other's POV - they stand utterly alone and backwards on that score). But in the western college professor's committment to that goal (to get their own to see things from the POV of the "other") has it ever crossed their minds that that they are fanning the flames of the grievances of that "Other" who is sitting right there in their classrooms? Are they even aware that that "Other" has already been exposed to nothing BUT anti-American propoganda in their home countries and that this is in fact that "Other's" possibly first opportunity to hear the "Other" point of view? Has it ever occurred to these sanctimounious professors that this foreigner is perhaps in DIRE need of understanding the western POV in order to reduce his OWN hatred?
If westerners continually trash themselves and their own history and portray their "own" as racist, evil, imperialists why WOULDN'T they expect their foreign students to take them at their word? Or have they never actually considered this particular consequence of their lectures?
American professors need to study that roster just a little more carefully at the outset of a semester and look for the foreign names and find out who those foreign students are and take the time to meet with them periodically and most of all realize that the lesson they are trying to impart to their American students, namely to be more tolerant of the Other and to see things from the Other's POV, may be absorbed by those foreign students in an entirely different way than the professor ever intended. (Again, I am giving the benefit of the doubt here to many American professors, rather than assuming malevolent intent).

WASHINGTON - A botched Detroit terrorism case that already has embarrassed the Bush administration is taking a new twist: A fresh FBI analysis of the evidence undercuts the recent indictment of the former chief prosecutor in the case
The 13-page report by FBI Agent Paul George concludes that satellite photos of a Jordanian hospital closely match hand-drawn sketches found in 2001 inside the Detroit apartment of four North African immigrants who the government claimed had surveyed the site as part of a terrorist plot.
The new analysis conflicts with the Justice Department's argument that photographic evidence did not match the sketches, and renews questions about whether the government correctly arrested the four men as a terrorist cell shortly after the Sept. 11 attacks.
George testified at the 2003 Detroit terrorism trial and produced the new analysis around the time he was called to testify late last year before a grand jury that eventually indicted the prosecutor for wrongdoing in the case, officials said. The agent's report was obtained by The Associated Press.
Convictions of three of the four men were tossed out in 2004 after the Justice Department told the court its own prosecutors withheld photos from defense lawyers that could have helped prove the defendants innocence.
Last month, former Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard G. Convertino and a State Department investigator were indicted on charges they conspired at the trial to withhold the pictures because they would have shown that the drawings were not surveillance sketches of the hospital, as Convertino and trial witnesses had portrayed.
