Malawi: Police Protect Cabinet Minister against Irate Muslims

His opponents charge that he -- shock horror! -- carried a cross during an Easter celebration. For that he was pelted with "missiles." From AND, with thanks to DFS:

Lilongwe (AND). Angry Muslims today booed and threw missiles at Malawi’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Uladi Mussa who had to be protected by the Malawi Police during a protest of what they called his disrespect for the faith in Lilongwe today during the Meelad-Un-Nabi celebrations.... Saifulah Kongwe who is one of the infuriated Muslims told AND in a separate interview that Mussa had been using the Holy Islamic recitations to champion his political career and that last year he accompanied President Mutharika who is a Roman Catholic to an Easter function where he carried a cross.

"He has been saying ‘Ashihadu Ani Lailaha Ila Llah Wa Ashihadu Anna Muhammad Rasuru Illahi’ [There is no other God but Allah and Muhammad is his Prophet] during political meetings in order to entice Muslims to join DPP," he said and said this was blasphemous.

Kongwe said when Mussa carried the Cross during a Good Friday Roman Catholic ceremony last year as a Muslim he renounced the Islamic faith.

"Since actions speak louder than words he communicated to us that he has left Islam and joined Roman Catholic so he really infuriated us when he turned up to preside over the celebrations. He should thank the presence of police otherwise we were going to manhandle him," said Kongwe.

But Mussa said he recited the Holy Islamic word during any meetings being it political or religious because he wants to profess to the world of his deep Islamic conviction.

"It is also not true that I left my faith. I was born a Moslem and I will die a Moslem," he declared before denying that he carried a cross in last year’s Christian function.

Yes, Muslims venerate Moses and Jesus alright, but that veneration doesn't extend to their non-Muslim followers.

In the countries conquered by Muslims, and even in some countries not conquered outright but near to Dar al-Islam, Islam has helped to spread by making it economically difficult for non-Muslims. Payment of the Jizyah, for example, was often a severe penalty. The celebrated scholar S. D. Goitein, whose masterpiece "A Mediterranean Society" was based on a study of the contents of the Cairo Geniza, toward the end of his life (when he was also preparing to write an enthusiastic review of Bat Ye'or's first study of the dhimmi, but death interrupted), in the introduction to that work, wrote that about "nothing" had he had to change his mind as much as he had about the onerousness of the Jizyah on the Jewish communities in the Muslim lands. (This important observation somehow escaped Eric Ormsby in his tribute to S. D. Goitein published a few years ago in "The New Criterion," while Goitein's previous sentimentality about "Jews and Arabs" was carefully not forgotten).

And the Jizyah, the forced tribute normally to be paid in humiliating circumstances (in India Muslims receiving jizyah from Hindis -- not "People of the Book" so made into a kind of honorary dhimmi so that they, instead of all being massacred, could support the Muslim state -- would spit into the mouths of the Hindus, or in some cases they would be hit while offering that payment. Deliberate humiliation of the non-Muslim was important. And among the many other disablities, some had obvious economic consequences, including the inequality at law of Muslim and non-Muslim (imagine trying to sue a Muslim for recovery of property, anywhere within Dar al-Islam). Even the prohibition on riding horses could, if it slowed -- as it would -- a merchant or trader down, could have economic consequences.

And that is surely one of the reasons why non-Muslims, to escape the imposition of all those disabilities, over time converted to Islam. Just imagine if, in the United States, every Christian and Jew were reqauired to pay a head-tax, every year, of $50,000 for the upkeep of a Muslim state? Over time, how many would convert to Islam, not out of belief, but out of a desire to escape the penalty, perhaps even planning to remain a secret Christan or Jew, but within a generation or two, that original intent would have been lost?

Why is this mentioned here, in an article on a politician in Malawi? Because black Africa is a battlefield between Islam and Christianity. Individual Christian missions have done a great deal of good. But Christians in black Africa need more support, tangible and most visible. The spectacle of Muslims in Nigeria, being allowed to throttle the Christians (Ibo and others) of the south, during the Biafra War (1967-1969), with Egyptian pilots strafing Ibo villages and only two countries in the world (Ghana and Israel) willing to recognize an independent Biafra, its forces fighting against the "Jihad"(Col. Ojukwu's own word in the Ahiara Declaration), while what was seen as the Christian world did nothing, did not help the cause of Christianity in Africa. The spectacle of the Western powers, held in Africa to represent Christianity, doing nothing or very little while, almost at will, Muslim Arabs killed in a variety of ways the Christian and animist black Africans in the southern Sudan, and did this, without any consequences, for twenty years, with nearly 2 million dead a result, also did not help the cause of Christianity in black Africa.

It is time for something dramatic to be done so that the Western world makes clear it will take the side of the Christians where they are under assault. Should a new Biafra be declared, the Western world should support and not shun it. In the Sudan, the Americans should -- but this will await, as so much awaits -- removal of American forces from tarbaby Iraq -- enter, smash in the first hour the capacity of the Sudanese government to conduct its renewed campagin of murder -- so much for that "treaty" -- in the southern Sudan and its newer mass murder in Darfur -- seize both the southern Sudan and Darfur, and hold them, to protect their populations, until such time as a referendum on self-rule can be held.

The spectacle of American soldiers being warmly greeted by black Africans in both places, having dealt a blow to whatever Sudanese army or airforce exists, and having cleared Darfur overnight of Janjaweed (General Mattis might take particular pleasure in being put in charge of that) will be hard to disavow. What will the U.N. do? Deplore the protection of black Africans, either Muslim or non-Muslim, in Darfur and the south? And what will the E.U. do? They can not, at this point, denounce the Americans for such an obviously humanitarian mission. It should galvanize support for, and encourage intelligent understanding of, the need for this kind of counter-Jihad.

And the Arab League, so fourscae behind the Sudanese governemnt in Darfur as it was in the southern Sudan, or where not approving openly then approving secretly, for who cares about non-Muslims being killed or Arab Muslims killing non-Arab Muslims? There was not a syllable of protest over the massacre of the Kurds by Arabs in Iraq; there was not a syllable of protest by the same Arab League over the use of the criminal law to punish the Berbers for using their own language, and preserving their own culture, for so many decades (recently, the Algerian govenment was forced by pressure from Berbers within Algeria to change those laws). What will the Arab League do? Declare the divine right of Arab Muslims to rule over and massacre non-Arab Muslims?

And if the Western world were to show especial sympathy and interest to Christian communities in black Africa, to selectively give them aid, would not some of those who were converted to Islam rethink their conversion, possibly for practical reasons? If to be a Christian in black Africa is to be a recipient of Western interest, Western aid, would not more, rather than fewer, Muslims convert -- just as, for centuries, Christians, Jews, Zoroastrians, Hindus, and Buddhists converted to Islam to avoid an intolerable situation?

This is a way to supplement, not to replace, the work of missionaries. Some will find it too calculating, for they assume that everyone chooses a belief-system for spiritual reasons, and practical carrots (Islam specializes in the sticks) should never be offered. But all over black Africa, the Saudis and other Arabs have poured in sums to build mosques and madrasas, as earlier they poured sums into the coffers of some African diplomats and rulers to get them to convert to Islam, or to break relations with Israel after 1967.

All that is being suggested is that if the word gets around that the Western world will no longer indiscriminately support countries, but is going to favor non-Muslims, and eliminate economic, diplomatic, and other kinds of aid for Muslism countries or for countries where Muslims possess too much power. An example of a country deserving of special attention and support is Ethiopia, and its efforts to divert some of the headwaters of the Nile for irrigation projects should be encouraged, and threats by Egypt against Ethiopia taken note of, and Egypt put on notice (and right now, that Jizyah to Egypt, that the Americans keep sending, should end).

Finally, in black Africa, more needs to be done to publicize the longest and most devastating trade in black Africans -- that of the Arabs. And that information should not only be spread in Africa, but in the Western world, as Islam's missionaries have deliberately targetted black populations on the assumption that they can continue to present Islam -- falsely -- as an appropriate vehicle for the expression of dismay with, or alienation from, the larger society. For Islam suppresses music and art and science, Islam stunts mental growth (where it used to be seen only as a means for getting people to straighten up and fly right), Islam does not encourage "social justice" (good god, just look at Saudi Arabia, look at the zamindars and generals of Pakistan, look at the corrupt military rulers of Egypt and Algeria, the petty kings of Jordan and Morocco, the police-state of Tunisia -- one uninterrupted series of despotisms), that Islam discourages "materialism" (pay a visit to the souks of the Gulf statelets or Saudi Arabia -- shopping is all there is, there isn't any more).

These things can be said. But more important, for helping to immunize important target populations for Islamic subversion in the Western world, would be a clear and deliberate sign of Western protection of black African Christians from continued depredations, persecution, and even mass murder, by those pushing Islam in Africa. Black African Christians were abandoned to their fate in southern Nigeria and southern Sudan. That inattention, that neglect, that betrayal, should not be repeated.

I was born a Muslim, and I will die a Muslim.

Could you put a rush on that, please?

What the Heck are Muslims doing in Malawi anyway? This small landlocked country is distant from any traditional Muslim centre - the closest are the old Muslim harbours of northern Mozambique and the ancient Malay community of the Cape. The whole country exists largely as a result of Dr.Livingstone's missionary Christian activities and their follow-up by British colonialists - who occupied it to prevent, not Muslim, but Portuguese Catholic occupation. I find it deeply alarming that militant Islam should have come so far, and bare its fangs so fiercely, so far away from its traditional stomping grounds.

Islam is there in Malawi? This is as far from the Arab empire that one can get, and there are Muslims there? Soon, there'll be Muslims in Japan, Korea, Uruguay, Costa Rica, and goodness knows where else. There's not a spot in the world free of them. Like bacteria and fungi, they are everywhere.

Sometimes, I think the Heavensgate cult had the right idea. Albeit for the wrong reasons.

I posted, and then read your message. I think they probably came there from South Africa, which had its share of Muslims from Indians who were brought there by the Brits. Somehow, the Brits have a good deal of explaining to do to countries as spread out as Guyana, South Africa, Australia, as to why they spread all these Mohammedans around.

But a lot of these countries, while democratic, don't have the western hang-ups about discrimination. They should make the lives of Muslims in their countries miserable enough that they flee to the paradise in the Hijab

"Korea..."
-- from a posting above

The Turkish soldiers who fought in the Korean War also took time to proselytize. As a result, there are some tens of thousands of Muslims now in South Korea.

Did you think that you can
placate both sides???

Do you believe that you can be friends of the Islamic hydra and then wear a cross ...

What are you insane?

I hate to say this but short of God changing the hearts of the muslim world...

I dont see any hope of peace with the islamo fasists...

And its really sad because i have no wish to see any and i repeat ANY muslim or arab dead..

I have no desire (even though i am furious) with Islam and its lying decietful ways.. to see arabs hurt..

But i am now almost resigned to the FACTS that
Islam cannot be bargained with
Islam cannot be appeased
Islam cannot be peaceful
Islam cannot tolerate anything un-islamic living
Islam will not stop until all are DEAD or Muslim..

And I will not bow down to this horrific demonic religion (even if it does cost me my life)...

I would rather die free from islamic tyranny
then to live an islamic slave...
