(4/10/06 - BAGHDAD, Iraq) - Iraq's newly crowned beauty queen, Tamar Goregian, has decided to step down -- just four days after her election, making this the shortest reign in the pageant's 60-year history.On April 9, the 23-year-old, who was the first Armenian Iraqi to win the Miss Iraq pageant, announced her resignation after receiving threats by a group of religious extremists who referred to her as "the queen of infidels" for participating in the contest.
The pageant director said: "I respect her decision. The country is undergoing rough times, and we understand her desire to protect herself and her family."...
During her acceptance speech, Goregian told the crowd, "Maybe beauty is the final step to end violence and preach world peace after all." The Iraqis who disagree have forced her to give up her crown and flee her country.
And before anyone in the MSM picks this up and starts talking about a "rejection of modernity" this celebration of the feminine was painted c. 1650-1550 B.C.

Islam is not against "modernity"; it is against the general opinion of humankind.
Hope she and her family can flee to an infidel country, somewhere safe. Since she is an Armenian, how about Armenia? Maybe participate in the Miss Armenia contest (assuming there is one), and go from there to higher things.
If her successor is a Muslimah, I'll bet her swimsuit would be a Jilbab. Perfect for swimming in the Red Sea after returning from Jeddah, as the Egyprians discovered.
The primordial enemy of Islam is women. Any expression of femininity that is not one of subervience threatens the entire edifice. There can be no strategy to resist the global Jihad, let alone roll back the tyranny of Islam, that does not incorporate womens' rights in the Muslim world.

I love women. I see the beauty in them. Anything or anyone who doesn't is truly warped in my estimation.

Back when the secular Ba'athist Saddam Hussein ruled Iraq, beauty pageants were a common occurance. Of course, under Saddam, Christians held key posts in the government and military because the dictator didn't trust his fellow Muslims.
Now that the neo-Cons have cajoled the US into occupying Iraq and imposing a Shari'a based Islamic state, beauty queens are threatened and Christians are fleeing the country by the thousands.
Still Bush will brag that we're bringing democracy to the Middle East. If this is democracy, give us dictators any time.

Only in the Muslim world would old men threaten a woman with physical harm or death merely for immodesty. I wonder what would happen if Ms. Goregian announced, "I will make passionate love for seven nights in a row with any healthy STD-free man who kills Imam _____ for threatening me."? And "why wait for 72 virgins when you can have me right now?" It might be the imams fleeing the country, resigning their offices, shaving off their beards...
