Plane carrying Congressmen fired upon by Russian missile in Iraq

Using a Russian shoulder-fired missile, the mujahedin almost got a planeload of Congressmen. "Plane with U.S. officials was fired at House members say C-130's defenses repelled missile; Boxer argues for similar equipment on commercial jets," from the San Francisco Chronicle, with thanks to Gabrielle Goldwater:

Members of Congress are used to being attacked by their political opposition, but being attacked by anti-aircraft missiles is another matter entirely.

In January, a six-member delegation of the House Armed Services Committee, led by Rob Simmons, R-Conn., came under missile attack as they traveled "lights out" on a military plane from Baghdad to Kuwait, according to three members of that delegation.

Reps. Jeb Bradley, R-N.H., John Spratt, D-S.C., and Neil Abercrombie, D-Hawaii, confirmed the incident to The Chronicle.

Sources familiar with the Defense Department investigation into the attack said the missile used in the attack on the C-130 carrying the delegation was an SA-18, considered the most sophisticated of Russian shoulder-fired missiles, or MANPADS (man-portable air defense systems).

Ah yes, it is from the COLD WAR that is over(really??), Russia would love to see more of our demise and if it means joining with the mujahedin then they will do it. With friends like these who needs enemies.

Well it was American weapons used against Russia in the Soviet war against Afganistan which ultimately saw the demise of communist power.... All's fair in love and war they say.

I'm not much a fan of representatives in Washington right now, so excuse me if I don't shed a tear.

Better them than the service personnel they so poorly serve.

Or the American public they betray with open borders and with no comparable protective measures on commercial aircraft ('cheaper to pay the families of the dead than do it right in the first place' is the 'weight-of-the-corpses-versus-gold' actuarial logic that renders our non-miltary craft vulnerable), including the fire-supression systems in military planes that are "not required" on civilian airliners, whose effectiveness was shown last week in an Air Force cargo plane crash where all onboard survived, even though the fuel tanks were full.

But I wouldn't want the pilots and crew hurt, so I guess the politicos can be considered "acceptible gains" in this scenario.

If these missiles missed the plane, how do they know what missile it was....????
Well, Gobachev said that communism hasn't finished as some in the west would say, all we have done is just changed out tactics...
How can a government like that change when the same is still in government.
Muslims dont mind climbing into bed with communism as their tactics are much the same, but muslims know when they have taken over they will kill off all communists unless they submit.
Yes, I have never been happy with Bush and his smerky smile, but if we have to have a country who is the world leader, I sure am glad it is America, and a so called right winged Government, the left wing seem to always run a country down... Acturally, I prefered it the way it was, when our own country made all its own things and imported what we didnt make, and employment was good because we manafactured our own things...

Gaye, unemployment is the lowest and other indicators stating enconomy is doing best of all western countries. the leftist media is always portraying the worst so they can blame Bush and get in Democrats. you cant believe the media. you need to read Rush website on the economy. its true government needs to slow down on its spending. need smaller goverment. just look at how bad Europe is doing..

Well, Well, Well. I wonder if these Congressmen still think that Islime is a "religion of peace" now?
