DENVER, Colorado (AP) -- A Saudi Arabian couple accused of keeping an Indonesian woman as a virtual slave have agreed to pay her $64,000 in back wages, according to a court document.If approved by the court, the deal would settle a federal lawsuit by the Labor Department against Homaidan Al-Turki and Sarah Khonaizan and avoid a federal trial.
State and federal charges alleged the couple required the woman to cook, clean and care for the couple's five children in suburban Aurora for little or no pay from 2000 to 2004.
Prosecutors also have alleged that Al-Turki sexually abused the woman and that she was sometimes loaned out to work for other families.
A federal trial was set for October on charges of forced labor, involuntary servitude and harboring an illegal immigrant.
I wonder if any of thier "friends" are being investigated as well. I wonder if there are more of these situations happening in the Aurora area.

Have any womens' rights groups weighed in on this? Slavery and rape seem pretty serious to me. Not just something you can deal with in civil court. Perhaps it's too politically hot, or they don't choose to view her as a real woman. Kinda' like the ACLU not worrying about my second amendment rights. It'll be interesting to see how fast this story is swept under the rug.

These abused and vulnerable women and girls have their passports confiscated by their employers as soon as they are through passport control. From then on they are virtual prisoners, literally locked in and with nowhere to go if they did manage to escape, quite unused to the frightening world beyond their confinement, knowing no-one, unable to speak the language, they stand little chance of a genuine escape. Occasionally a brave servant does manage to escape in London and by sheer good luck conveys the need for help to genuinely decent strangers who take them to the police. I have read harrowing reports of the treatment these escapers have been subjected to - allowed only the left-over scraps from their employers' plates, physically beaten and sometimes tortured for some ludicrous 'fault', worked day and night every day and with no private space, often sexually harrassed and raped; all with the connivance of the British Home Office which knows this sort of treatment is prevelant. On the few occasions where such slaves have managed to get the police to prosecute the employer/s the outcome will either be that the princes and princesses have flown away or if still here will receive a token 'punishment'. The hapless former slave then faces the need for a second escape which may be even more problematic for her. Following their "prophet's" example, Muslims refer to rape victims as "concubines," imprisonment as "seclusion" or "modesty," and murder as "honor." It is the language of monsters.
By the time the lawyers get their take, this young slave will have no more than a couple months' living expenses if that. But that's probably academic since she will likely be deported back to Saudia Arabia anyway.
