US-educated Saudi is "proud" he fought against the US

Why not ask those applying for education visas some hard questions to determine their view of the jihad ideology? "Detainee Says He's Proud to Fight U.S.," from AP, with thanks to Mackie:

GUANTANAMO BAY NAVAL BASE, Cuba (AP) - A U.S.-educated Saudi accused of being part of an al-Qaida bomb-making cell said Thursday he is proud that he fought against the United States and doesn't want an attorney at his military trial.

"I did not come here to defend myself," Ghassan Abdullah al-Sharbi calmly told the military judge. "I did what I did and I'm willing to pay the price no matter how many years you sentence me."

Al-Sharbi, 31, an electrical engineering graduate from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Ariz., was captured in March 2002 in Pakistan with senior al-Qaida lieutenant Abu Zubayda and other figures.

He is charged with conspiracy in an alleged plot to build remote-controlled explosives to attack U.S. troops in Afghanistan and faces up to life in prison if convicted in the military tribunal at Guantanamo.

The military panel that determined whether al-Sharbi was an "enemy combatant" disclosed that he was known by other detainees as Abu Zubayda's "right hand man" and that he had been seen "chatting and laughing like pals" with Osama bin Laden at a terrorist training camp, according to Pentagon documents recently obtained by The Associated Press.

At his military trial, al-Sharbi, who has long hair and a thick, flowing beard, told the presiding judge that he would not cooperate with his court-appointed attorney.

"I'm going to make this easy for you guys. I fought against the United States. I took up arms," he said in English, his hands clasped on the defense table in front of him. Later, he added: "I'm going to tell you what I did. ... I'm proud of what I did."

It could hurt their religious feelings and create a hostile atmosphere that's not conductive to a democratic dialogue between religions.

Just like Moussaoui. And just as Moussaoui's lawyer, and many of those in the press who simply cannot be bothered to learn what Islam teaches, and why Muslims might do what they do, think what they think, harbor what dreams and resentments they do harbor, instead describing such people, time after time, as "crazy" or "schizophrenic," they are not.

The only "crazy" behavior to be observed over the past few years is that of the Infidels who, faced with a threat, a menace, unlike any other they have faced on a world scale, cannot conceive of such a thing, do not want to hear about it, do not wish to engage in the kind of study that might offer an explanatory model that fits both past and present data (about Muslim behavior and attitudes) and that has predictive value.

Despite the volcanic mountains of evidence that rise higher as heaving hatreds sputter from deep below, the Infidels of this world content themselves with every conceivable explanation but the real one: "It's poverty." (Then the studies explode this). "It's American foreign policy." (Then the killings in Bangladesh and Pakistan of Hindus, of Christians in the Sudan and the Philippines and Indonesia, and another hundred examples, are adduced). "It's only the Wahhabis." (Then the speeches of Ayatollah Khomeini are pointed out, and the history of Jihad-conquest that preceded Al-Wahhab by a thousand years). "It's Iraq, it's "Palestine," it's whatever you want it to be, to explain Malmo, and Rotterdam, and the unintegrable Muslim masses in Europe, and it's the Norwegian imam who explains that stealing from Infidels is religiously-sanctioned because it is merely a taking of the "Jizyah" that is owed to Infidels anyway, and its the Sydney rapes and the Swedish rapes and the Norwegian rapes. And it's the mass hysteria over Danish cartoons in a Danish newspaper, leading to world-wide boycotts of Danish goods, recalls of ambassadors, demands for changes in the Danish, in the Western, the world's laws pertaining to free speech so that Islam, Islam, Islam will be exempt. It's a "war on terror" and those "terorrists" are a "handful of extremists." No, they're slightly more than a "handful of extremists." Now they're ten percent, and now potentially 50 percent, or if e are to believe the ex-Muslims, the keen apostates, more like 80% of those who take Qur'an and Hadith seriously, or more, support acts of terror. And then, of course, we are not entitled, are we, to even discuss Da'wa, and the demographic conquest of Western Europe, even if such matters are discussed openly, with great anticipation and pleasure, at Muslim websites. That would not be possible.

Who's crazy? Who's schizophrenic? Is it Moussaoui? Is it Al-Sarbi above? Or is it those Infidels still unwiling, still too paralyzed with fear of what they might find out, who remain incapable of even beginning to find study those texts, and why the 1350-year history of Islamic conquest, and subjugation, and then codified oppression, of Christians, Jews, Zoroastrians, Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, Buddhists, and indeed everyone under their control who was not a Muslim?

Who is crazy in the case above? Is it Al-Sharbi, or those who are discussing his case who will tell us that he's just "one more nut case, like Moussaoui"?

And I'm going to be proud when he gets his JUST desserts.

If he wants to throw away what could have been a potentially nice life to kill people, then he deserves what he gets.

give him a quick military trial, then put him against the wall, firing squad, then cremate his remains send it back to the sands of his homeland.
we need to fight to win this war, and not tie up the hands of those valiant military soldiers doing the country's bidding and keeping us safe from these muslim monsters.

Another from "the saudi friend"

This man should be transformed into a women and then parachuted into a Taliban controled area of Central Asia....sporting a bikini.

That way he can learn about islam the way 52% of muslims have.

In fact, it'll be the first time in his life he'll have learned anything at all

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Stop giving out student visas to people from the Middle East or anyone that practises the "religion of peace" until the war on terror is won. Our universities have educated more than half of the known terrrorists in the civilized world. It's time to put this to an end. Leave these people in the 7th century where they want to be.

I dont understand what the problem is with the american public not understanding the threat that islam poses to our way of life. it is obvious that these people care not for our way of life or life in general. when the first u.s educated holy warrior blows up a bus of schoolchildren they will be screaming "why oh why did'nt you warn us!!! I fear for our way of life. this is my first post ihave trouble finding anyone with the same or similiar views.

If he is proud of what he did , then we should proudly throw him in a pen of hogs to devoure him. This is war not a police action. All prisoners at Gitmo should be executed. It is a waste of time and resources to house them to collect misinformation and ignorace that fills their hate filled heads.
