Aussie teacher threatened jihad in suburban Brisbane

John Amundsen Update: "Teacher on terror charges," from the Courier Mail, with thanks to JE:

THE first Queenslander charged with terrorism allegedly sent police an email threatening to launch a jihad – or holy war – on the suburban streets of Brisbane.

Police received the "anonymous" email this week as they were investigating the alleged purchase of 53kg of explosives by Brisbane high school teacher John Amundsen.

Queensland police have allegedly tracked the email to a computer at a Brisbane internet cafe used by Amundsen.

It remains unclear whether targets were mentioned, however police sources said there were no specific streets identified.

It is understood Amundsen is still maintaining he bought the explosives for stunts and to blow up trees for a movie he was making.

The 40-year-old manual arts teacher allegedly used about a fifth of the 53kg of Powergel to build four bombs, some containing nails and razor blades, which were seized in a police raid on his north Brisbane home on Monday night.

Ten detonators which were not yet attached to bombs were designed to be set off by remote.

Could this mark the birth of a new slogan, copying for different purposes those old subway ads for a certain rye bread: "You don't have to be Jewish to love Levy's." Think of psychically marginal people all over the Western world taking to heart a phrase such as "You don't have to be Muslim to go on Jihad fi sabeel Allah"? This particular wretch, an Amundsen who was not a polar explorer but quite possibly is bipolar, appears to have been ready, willing, and able to engage in what he found most appealing about Bin Laden and about Islam, without even needing to formally "revert."

And he is not alone.

"I wouldn't want to say there is any fear or any concern about a larger organisation being behind this person," Mr Keelty told reporters outside the Future Summit 2006 in Brisbane today.

So as long as he's not working for Al Qaeda, we should all roll over and go back to sleep? Just another one of those lone nutjobs, y'know. Never mind that a discovery of Islam and jihad doctrine is a common factor, again.

And Nazism combined with jihad:

Someone, tell the Queensland authorities the truth as well.

Hugh,
For what kind of "stunt" do you use bombs with nails and razorblades embedded in explosives? Was he trying to get a one-time appearance on "The World's Most Dangerous Stunts"?

Has there been any comfirmation on the religious leanings of this guy? If he was NOT muslim I would have expected a number of media outlets to feel it was their duty to show us that not all terrorist are islamic. Not that this guy is a terrorist or ever could be considered one accourding to his lawyer...

"These offences, whilst they’re under that legislation, it does not follow that even if he was convicted that he’s some sort of terrorist."

Good hair day, bad brain day - Forgot to include this quote re: Amundsen's fascination with Nazism:

Yesterday police removed Nazi and war paraphernalia from inside Amundsen's Aspley home where he lives with his elderly mother.

Unfortunately, that will probably just further the "lone nut, nothing-to-worry-about" sentiment.

Amundsen is the first person in Queensland to be charged under the new national legislation.

Books on al-Qa'ida leader Osama bin Laden as well as Nazis Items were seized during the raid on Mr Amundsen's home. So in that respect there may yet be an Islamic connection to this sicko.

Amundsen also put photos of his bomb on the internet. Clearly bombs made with razor blades and nails are anti-personnel weapons.

Perfectly congruent world-views and mind-sets. Complete Regulation of Life #1a and Total Explanation of the Universe #1b meet Complete Regulation of Life #2a and Total Explanation of the Universe #2b. Both couples get along swimmingly.

Great news, the Iman responsible for the cartoon jihad is taking his family and leaving Denmark !

Normally, these Western hating jihadists go to another Infidel nation, but he is heading back to the muslim extrement hole of Gaza !

Ever try to explain the danger of jihad to someone?
You must read this short story by Dan Simmons.

"Complete Regulation of Life #1a and Total Explanation of the Universe #1b meet Complete Regulation of Life #2a and Total Explanation of the Universe #2b. Both couples get along swimmingly."

The specific concrete stipulations of 1a-b, and of 2a-b (or of any two Totalitarianisms), could just as easily militate against their cozy relationship: what makes them swimming bedfellows (pardon the mix of metaphors) in this case is their common fanatical antipathy toward a common Enemy seen as a mega-cabal: The West / Christianity / Jews.

Dawn of a new animal: the infidel Jihadist

kevin, I don't think your link works. I can't click on it.

Mackie, I think this from the article above clearly shows that there is an Islamic connection to this somehow:
"sent police an email threatening to launch a jihad..."

And OT, but relating to Kevins posted story: Has anyone read the Scott Adams sequel to "God's Debris", "The Religion War"? The first one is a free ebook...

Shinoliite
According to that site there was no jihad before WWII. So we must tell our children the truth, that Islam is actually ok after all I guess.

"Read TELL CHILDREN THE TRUTH and you will learn that the root of this evil called fundamentalism is not original Islam, it is plain fascism. The representant of this foreign ideology in the Arab world was Amin Al Husseini, who tried to marry Nazism with Islam. "

Mr Krabs-- that certainly wasn't my point.

What I was aiming to point out was the ideological affinity (which Hugh elaborated on) and the historical alliance between Nazism and Islam that is of interest in Amundsen's case.

I was lamenting the fact that the authorities probably won't connect those dots, and write this guy off as some "lone nut," and thus somehow less of a concern than if he were affiliated with, say, Al Qaeda, as the quote in my first post seems to hint at.

Kevin,

that was the most depressing thing I have read in a long time. Not shooting you - the messenger, here.
I know how you feel - people just don't want to know or don't want to believe it.
Thanks for posting it.

Typo: above should read "the fact that the authorities probably won't connect those dots, and willwrite this guy off as some "lone nut."

What were the three last words?

Stupid question: What is "manual arts"?

Infidel Pride - I'm assuming it's what we call "shop class" in the US: Vocational training; traditionally an emphasis on woodworking.

Shinoliite & Infidel Pride:
It could include woodwork, metalwork, ceramics/pottery, 2D art, 3D art, textiles/sewing. Depends on what the school feels like offering. Basically any 'art' subject excluding performance. But I am not in that immediate area, could be minor differences...

Shinoliite
I wasn't suggesting you agreed with the apologist aspects of that site, I got your point though.
I come across a site about Islam with the word "truth" in the heading and I'm automatically suspicious. Funny that. There are more red herrings out there now about Islam at the moment its stupifying.

Actually, Islam is a theological red herring.

Television: "What were the three last words?"

six six six?

kevin, a story that teaches a lesson has to be more artful than that.

thanks, though, it will stay in mind.

The school that John Amundsen taught at is an excellent school, and I am wondering if he intended to do his horrific deed at his school for maximine effect. As we have seen in Israel and other countries, this religion of peace has no problems blowing up children.
But I am also wondering to his surname,, what nationality is it????

Gaye,
Amundsen is a Scandinavian name. Norwegian I think. (Some one please correct me if I am wrong about Norway.)

I have checked a couple of Aussie papers as I type and he isn't even mentioned anymore!

So far we know his elderly mother is a devout Catholic. His religion has not been mentioned.

The nails and razor blades are common ingredients in palestian suicide bombs but they also dip them in cyanide. This means that a survivor of an attck has great difficulty healing.
It took the Israeli's a while to work this out. They have an antidote but it is expensive.

Charming indeed to have such a creep here, and working in a school.

I hope the make a huge example of him and put him away for a VERY long time.

Shinolite,
http://www.conceptwizard.com/pipeline_of_hatred.html

Have you seen this one? There is definitley a connection between nazi's and jihad's. Trouble is nazi's were contained and there are less of them!

Pali bombers would often use rat poison in their bombs. Rat poison is an anti-coagulant and would cause people to bleed to death from wounds that would not normally be life threatening. Israeli doctors have, in the last few years, developed new medicines that quickly restore the clotting properties of blood. They have actually pioneered this effort as they have more than enough experience needing it.

RE ANGRY MUPPET'S post towards the top of page.

I am in Australia and been following this case closely. To date I havent seen a mahomadden connection except for the Osama book found ( another poster pointed out that it is an anti-Osama book and therefore confuses the issue further )
I too, a.m. , am worried that the local moonbat brigade ( and there are many, so very painfully many) will latch onto this and we'll never hear the end of it.
"See terrorists are not Mahammedan ! "

They'll latch onto this like " No WMDs" or "Children overboard" ( both debatable but irrefutable in moonbatland )

Me, I say "the exception proves the rule."

My, what a charming young chap.

Gramfan, thanks for the explanation of where the name comes from...
and things have gone quite here now on this issue...

you also said, "There is definitley a connection between nazi's and jihad's."
No,,, Mohammad had more brains than Hitler, he incorporated a religious cult into it, with strict rules and total obedience, which demands more control then just a leader... the fear of a horrific god who will punnish you for ever if you dont obey, is far worse than a horrific leader whose powers end here.
