AMSTERDAM — MP Ayaan Hirsi Ali told an emotional press conference on Tuesday that the decision by Dutch Immigration Minister Rita Verdonk she is not entitled to Dutch citizenship is a "disproportionate sanction".The lawmaker called the press conference to announce she is leaving the Netherlands, where she has built up a reputation as a critic of Islam and a defender of women's rights.
A native of Somalia, Hirsi Ali gave a false name and date of birth when she sought asylum in the Netherlands in 1992 from an arranged marriage. She became a naturalised Dutch citizen in 1997.
Although Hirsi Ali has been open about the lies since she joined the Dutch Liberal Party (VVD) in 2002, Verdonk ruled on Monday that the lies invalidated Hirsi Ali's asylum status and subsequent naturalisation. This means Hirsi Ali was never a Dutch citizen and should not have been a member of parliament for the VVD since 2003. Hirsi Ali told the press conference she is fighting the Minister's decision.
This is absurd given the timing. The circumstances of Hirsi Ali's life since she came to the Netherlands offer abundant reason to give her asylum now. To bring up her lies, which she has acknowledged for years, at this point recalls the sailors who threw Jonah off their boat, hoping the storm would thereby cease. For them, it did; for sailor Verdonk, it won't.
Her voice sounding deeper than usual, Hirsi Ali said: "I came to Holland in the summer of 1992 because I wanted to be able to determine my own future. I didn’t want to be forced into a destiny that other people had chosen for me, so I opted for the protection of the rule of law. Here in Holland, I found freedom and opportunities, and I took those opportunities to speak out against religious terror."She became an MP in January 2003. "First of all I wanted to put the oppression of immigrant women - especially Muslim women – squarely on the Dutch political agenda. Second, I wanted Holland to pay attention to the specific cultural and religious issues that were holding back many ethnic minorities, instead of always taking a one-sided approach that focused only on their socio-economic circumstances.
"Lastly, I wanted politicians to grasp the fact that major aspects of Islamic doctrine and tradition, as practised today, are incompatible with the open society."
And they are. And they still are, whatever Hirsi Ali said to get into Holland. The Dutch will soon find this out, and wish they had heeded her voice.
She said she had stumbled often in her political career and it had sometimes been frustrating and slow. "However, I am completely certain that I have, in my own way, succeeded in contributing to the debate.""Meanwhile, the ideas which I espouse have begun spreading to other countries. In recent years I have given speeches and attended debates in many European countries and in the United States. For months now, I have felt that I needed to make a decision: should I go on in Dutch politics, or should I now transfer my ideas to an international forum?"
Describing the Minister's decision on her naturalisation as disproportional, Hirsi Ali explained there were associated reasons for her leaving.
"It is common knowledge that threats against my life began building up ever since I first talked about Islam publicly, in the spring of 2002. Months before I even entered politics, my freedom of movement was greatly curtailed, and that became worse after Theo van Gogh was murdered in 2004.
"I have been obliged to move house so many times I have lost count. The direct cause for the ending of my membership in parliament is that on April 27 of this year, a Dutch court ruled that I must once again leave my home, because my neighbours filed a complaint that they could not feel safe living next to me."
The Dutch government is appealing this court decision. However, she said, that appeal did not alter her situation. "I have to leave my apartment by the end of August."
Concluding her statement, Hirsi Ali said: "Ladies and Gentlemen, as of today, I resign from Parliament. I regret that I will be leaving the Netherlands, the country which has given me so many opportunities and enriched my life, but I am glad that I will be able to continue my work. I will go on."

this entire episode is the perfect "poster child" for what europe is today......i think it may even lose its status as a great outdoor museum!
Of course this is wrong of the Dutch, sends all the wrong signals to their feral populations (Muslims). BUT ... I sure wish we -USA- would retroactively take away citizenship from our immigrant criminals and boot them out. We have laws to do this but it's never done. Coming back here after deportation is a felony. This also is never enforced.
I heard Hirsi Ali will be coming here. I sure hope so. The Dutch are too cowardly to deport her to Somalia. Hirsi Ali could tie them up for years on this one. EU nations are not allowed to deport people back to places they will be murdered. In fact UK has about 50 Muslims they want to boot out but have legally been able to stay due to fear of persecution if sent home to their cursed homelands
Does anyone have Rita Verdonk's email? She should be swamped with emails from all over the world advising her how shameful her behavior is... Even under the rule of law, there should be exceptions for exceptional persons.
Mevrouw Verdonk's decision is probably based on some statutory provision of Dutch immigration law. A number of countries, including the USofA, have laws against using fraud and misrepresentation to obtain immigration benefits and/or citizenship. It is likely that the Netherlands is one such country, and such a law is being applied in this case.
It is my prayer that if European states are indeed going after people who fraudunlently gained asylum and/or citizneship, that they will also catch a large number of jihadis. Something tells me that this population is not one that has many scruples about lying to unbelievers.

I'm not convinced.
Emancipated females like Rita Verdonk get off by ruling over chicken-men and PC-infected dhimmies, but they can't handle a calm, cool and collected, out-of-the-box, from the 3rd world, proud female who does not only look impressive, but says all the right things and gets much more attention and respect than all the Rita's combined ever will.
Rita Verschtonk clearly is vindictive, and I wouldn't put it past her that she engineered this whole charade.
Rita's type, resembling the below average mediocrity, exemplifies everything thats wrong with Europe today.

That was a graceful parting statement from a gracious lady, with a move clearly that of a person with a sense of prestige. Way to go.
The Dautch government took a wonderful step in getting rid of hirsi's citizenship. serves her right.
l am sure that there are no Dutch or European politicians as brave as MP Ayaan Hirsi Ali! Shame on them for using her as a scapegoat. She is too good for them, and l am glad she will fight them and embarass them as well! l am planning on going to the Netherlands late June, and hope to talk to as many Dutch people about her, even though l am going on a business type trip, the people l will be with are all non-muslim, and l will try to get the pulse of the regular Dutch person.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali is a brave woman that stands for the truth. To call B.S. for what it self evidently is, that is the character of the people that made America the greatest civilization in world history.
She belongs with us to live a life of greater freedom and fullfilment than she will ever know anywhere else.
To come to America DOES serve her right, a right she has EARNED!
