Iraqi tennis players shot 'for wearing shorts'

Sharia Alert from the Brave New Liberated Iraq. "Iraqis shot 'for wearing shorts,'" from the BBC, with thanks to all who sent this in:

The coach of Iraq's tennis team and two players were shot dead in Baghdad on Thursday, said Iraqi Olympic officials.

Coach Hussein Ahmed Rashid and players Nasser Ali Hatem and Wissam Adel Auda were killed in the al-Saidiya district of the capital.

Witnesses said the three were dressed in shorts and were killed days after militants issued a warning forbidding the wearing of shorts.

Other Iraqi athletes have been targeted in recent incidents.

In this case, according to accounts, the men dropped off laundry and were then stopped in their vehicle by gunmen.

Leaflets

Two of the athletes stepped out of the car and were shot in the head, said one witness. The third was shot dead in the vehicle.

"The gunman took the body out of the car and threw it on top of the other two bodies before stealing the car," said the witness, who requested anonymity.

He said leaflets had been recently distributed in the area warning residents not to wear shorts.

I shouldn't laugh about three tennis players being killed, but this is funnier than the ice cream threat.

BTW, In tennis you have scores like 15-Love. How the hell can anyone play tennis in Iraq? Where's the love?

This is the problem with Islam..

The morons (mostly the leftist pacifists)
Dont GET IT...

Islam will not be satisifed ...
Even if you lay down your arms
Even if you surrender
Even if you abandoned all the jews
Even if we left all of the middle east
Even if we stopped selling alchohol
Even if we stopped the lottery..

It wont End until

All Americans are wearing beards
Forced to pray 5 times a day to allah
All women are forced into burkas
All children are married off at age 9
All Churches are burned to the ground
All people wearing shorts have beeen Murdered

And thats just the beginning of fun under islamo fasism folks...

Give me liberty (from Islam)....
and Islamic fasism....
Or give me death...

If you ask me, they were askin for it.

SHORTS !

the very idea.

Can't have that.

Woulda shot em myself.

I don't wear shorts myself. Legs too skinny and white. Easily sunburned, too. Unless you got good tanned legs, you shouldn't wear shorts. Almost enought to make me convert to islam. Almost.

Sandals is my other pet peeve. Can't stand sandals.

I'd like to see the jihadists pass a law against sandals!

I believe ultra-Orthodox Jews also object to men wearing shorts, but somehow I doubt if they advocate the death penalty for anyone breaking the rule.

So - is this supposed to be the Iraqi "resistance"?

These men who were shot in cold blood for wearing shorts were the creme de la creme of Iraqi society - the best and brightest. Olympic athletic skills are a rare gift in ANY human society. Most sane human beings on the planet want to appreciate and celebrate and NURTURE the rare human gifts which they see in their fellow men.

Muslims, by contrast, are focused on the goddamned length of a man's shorts and apparently think nothing of terminating the lives of their most accomplished fellow citizens over something so absurdly trivial.

Murder. Of Athletes. For wearing shorts.
Good God. Have Muslims no shame at all?

Maybe some Manhattan liberal ad exec types can come up with a real cool ad campaign to celebrate this new take on "multiculturalism".

I can picture the ad now - athletes are struggling to GET to the Olympic stadium and we're not sure which of them are actually going to make it to the start line after running the gauntlet, dodging bullets in their Nike shorts.

I'm dead!

From the first warm day of Spring until Winter's icy claws close their grip on Fall, I'm in shorts every chance I get.

And I love tennis (pun intended), too.

Doesn't everyone in Iraq carry a gun for protection by now? (A .25 semi-auto, in a small holster, can clip onto the back elastic of even tennis shorts.) I mean, the place is a tad dangerous, no?

How naive were these athletes?

Shot them and tehn stole their car. Muslims, murderers and thieves.

Well, you know, I don't think that it is the shorts themselves that they object to. It is not in the koran, as far as I know. What gets their blood boiling is seeing infidel clothing. Why? Because they see that as being a harbinger of the infidel invasion of islam.

That is how the jihadist mind thinks. Everything is a symbol. Everything represents a force for good or evil. So they must do battle with the evil forces. If something is tolerated that is not to their liking, then it is a symbolic capitulation. Symbolism is everything to the jihadist. Witness the Nike and BK fiascos. Similarly, those tennis shorts symbolized the west, the infidel, Christ, and George Bush, everything they have sworn to defeat. So it's not the length of the pants that is the issue. It's not the shorts at all. It is what the shorts symbolize in their twisted minds.

How short were the shorts?

What annoys me even more that stories like this will not make the six o'clock news!

Last week Fjordman did a great piece on Sweden.

Yound Swedish girls are dying their black so as not to be conspicuous and get raped and abused,,being called "whores" all the time, and more.

This all speaks volumes, but apart from people who post here and other similar blogs, who gets to know?
Does anyone anywhere still watch travel shows? They show not one muslim in Europe - wonder why?

It is sickening!
http://gatesofvienna.blogspot.com/2006/05/new-york-times-and-sweden-dark-side-of.html

East solution - let them play in their traditional robes, even in international tournaments.

That way, they'd lose straight sets 6-0, 6-0, 6-0.

Unfortunately, these men aren’t the first to be killed for the “crime” of wearing shorts. According to this story:

http://www.washingtontimes.com/world/20060524-104300-8042r.htm

There was another attack like this in Baghdad. Six men were killed on Tuesday for wearing shorts. It’s not limited to this either. It seems that a bunch of clerics in Baghdad have decided to back Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi. They have decided that Sharia law is going to be enforced. It sounds just like the Taliban: women are not allowed to work and girls are not allowed to go to school. The clerics have armed groups of thugs out on the streets enforcing this crap.

We overthrew Saddam Hussein for this?? Sure, there is a new government. But that government has no real power. The real power is now with the clerics (and their armed groups of thugs). Goodbye Saddam, hello Taliban! The clerics in Baghdad will probably be setting up their own Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in the near future.

Islam is disgusting, revolting. It is stories like this as well as my personal encounters with dawah and Muslims both convert and immigrant that turned me againest Islam. It is really draining some days to read all this stuff posted here, so much of the stuff perpetated my the followers of Muhammed is so-mind numbingly stupid , so vile, so utterly pointless. The killing and destruction of human life for such nothingness is unbearable. The idea that three human beings died for wearing shorts is beyond vile. Islam is vile and so are the dhimmis that defend it and carry water for it. How long do we have to countinue play games and dance around the truth?

This shows again just how stupid
toppling Saddam was. Saddam knew exactly
how to keep these people in line.

Basically, removing Saddam
was like opening the gates of an
asylum for the criminally insane.

Ya, Saddam was a very bad man, but he was a bad man to people who were just as bad, that is what Bush didn't realize.

Isn't it strange that in our war on islamic terror after 9/11, we attack one country. And the one country we attack is the one country in the whole islamic world led by a secular government.

Ironic, eh?

Let me tell you why Bush attacked Iraq:

After the Gulf war ended, Bush Senior, W's dad, let Saddam off the hook. Remember that famous scene where Saddam is on the balcony firing his gun into the air in celebration? Well Saddam declared victory in the gulf war. That pissed a lot of people off. But it got worse. Shortly thereafter, W's father was booted out of the whitehouse. And people started to make the observation that within months of ending the gulf war, saddam was still in power and W's dad was out on his butt. W is a very proud man. That really hurt. There was a lot of anger there.

But it gets worse. Saddam then tried to have W's dad assassinated after he was already out of office. It was a pathetic plot, but he tried. That shows just how much animosity there was between the Bush family and the Hussein family.

That revelation sent W ballistic. If you remember, and I wish I had the clip available, W talks about Saddam's evil ways prior to the invasion of Iraq by stating "This was a man who tried to murder my dad!"

I don't blame W. If someone tried to kill my dad I would go ballistic too.

Then W heard about the rape rooms and the unholy acts of Saddam and his two psychopathic sons. That really got W going.

So what was happening was a confluence of factors, creating a perfect storm in W's mind about Saddam. Not only was Saddam a bad man, as everybody admits, even the liberals, but for Bush, it was personal. Very personal. There was an intense personal hatred there. This man Saddam just had to go. It was a real family feud. Like the Hatfield and the McCoys.

That perfect storm came to fruition on 9/11. As one of Bush's aids remarked that day, Bush asked him if Saddam was in any way involved. He desperately wanted to know. Why? Because that was going to be the final straw. That was going to be the moral justification he needed for invasion to finally get rid of Saddam using US forces to settle an old family score.

Any intel suggesting that Saddam had WMDs was welcome. Intel suggesting otherwise was ignored. And for the record, Saddam probably did have WMD somewhere in Iraq and shipped it to Syria during the run up to the invasion. But WMD was not the reason for the invasion. Bush knew that Iran had a real nuclear WMD program and said nothing about it. Iran was ignored. Why? Because Iran is a much bigger country, and its mullahs didn't try to kill his father. There was no personal animostity between W and Iran like there was between W and Saddam. So Iran was treated like any other pariah nation in the mid-east. It was ignored. But Iraq was led by Saddam. And there was a persoanl family score to settle.

So after the invasion and the successful dethroning of Saddam, Bush couldn't just go home. That would look like it was just a vindictive crusade to get his old nemesis. So Bush went to stage 2. Stage 2 was to use Iraq as a tipping point for the entire middle east, as he himself said was the desired effect. Nice idea if it works. But as we know now, the islamic world doesn't want democracy or freedom, or Richard Simmons informercials. But Bush couldn't see that. He naturally assumed, being a naive liberal, that all people want freedom and democracy. That was an incorrect assumption based on any over-estimation of the islamic people.

Today W is probably coming around to see that staying in Iraq for stage 2 was a mistake. That not invading Iran for WMD was a mistake. That blowing his wad on Iraq was misspent. Still, he got rid of the Bush family enemy, that insolent Saddam. That guy "who tried to murder my dad."

Dan the Infidel
yes,,what a waste of time and lives to get back a Taliban-style of government. I have also been thinking saddam knew exactly how to control his people.

Soemthing about islam.
Also correct but how about the oil? That must have also played a big part.
Watching Bush and Blair together the other night/day,,depending where you live,,wasn't awe-inspiring! I was a bit like Abbot and Costello!

This is like the murder a few weeks ago of those children's entertainers whose crime was that they also performed for non Muslim children.

Decent non political people who aren't a threat to anyone, can't get on with their lives.

In todays Times it is stated that the leaflet also forbids the purchase, and, presumably, the consumption, of mayonaisse! Can anybody tell me why this should be so? I know that the moslem world is renowned for its stupidity and silliness but this seems to be right off the radar screen.

Dominic.

Dominic,

Islamic culture regulates every aspect of life, from the toilet to the temple. Just take a look at a Muslim website, such as IslamOnLine's Q & A, and you will invariably encounter rulings on what types of foods are permitted or forbidden, what types of shampoo are permitted or forbidden, what types of nail polish remover are permitted or forbidden, what types of insurance policies, economic interest, graveyard plots, breakfast cereal, public urinals... Everything: Islam is Totalitarian.

Whew!

It snowed here in the Sierra Nevada range last night.

I'll be safe from the Mo Says No Shorts Patrol for another day.

Pray for snow!

Dominic--Because it goes well with a ham sandwich?

Somethingaboutislam has it right.

"Witnesses said the three were dressed in shorts and were killed days after militants issued a warning forbidding the wearing of shorts."

Just like the AP and others, the BBC just can't bring themselves to use the word "terrorists" (instead of militant, gunman or dissident) when describing people who commit terrorist acts.

Dominic-

Vinegar, a component of mayonnaise, is made from 'spoiled' wine/cider/etc., so perhaps it is not allowed because of this "almost alcohol" rationale?

Go "Ask The Imam" about this culinary quandry at one of the many Islamic advice columns on the web.

(Or maybe it has to do with the infamous "Vinegar Bible"?)

The weather here is superb, so I'm heading out for a few sets of tennis.

L'oeuf!

Profitsbeard- I am just an older farmer out here in Idaho USA-please tell me what is the 'infamous Vinegar Bible'? Hope I am not asking an indiscrete question. I am fishing this weekend with waders on my legs. Hope that is okydoky.

george_rem,

I agree with you 100 percent! Iraq can only be ruled by a bloodthirsty dictator and it is far better to have a secular dictatorship under the Ba'athists than the Islamic mess we now have in Iraq. Saddam and his fellow Ba'athist in Syria, Hafez al-Assad, were known to commit mass murder and gas thousands of people. But since those gassed were mostly supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood, it may have been justified.

Also, both Saddam and the Assads generally left the Christians alone and Saddam's government was almost dominated by them. Since the US conquest of Iraq, the Ba'ath party has been outlawed and only Islamist parties now vie for power. We have killed a dog and now face a wolf.

necessitasnonhabetlegem (thank god for cut and paste):

"In todays Times it is stated that the leaflet also forbids the purchase, and, presumably, the consumption, of mayonaisse!"

Sorry but there's simply no negotiating on the mayonnaise. Or the Ranch dressing, or the Caesar dressing or the Blue Cheese. No way. No how.

Oh - and while we're on the topic of supposed trivia (and if the length of a man's pants aren't trivia then I don't know what is) then I would like to point out -

ZERO negotiation on the dog thing. I am prepared to personally kill anyone who thinks that my dogs are fair game for his sadistic fantasies. It's not clear to me that much of the Muslim world has actually appreciated this little "quirk" of westerners - i.e. our love and devotion for dogs - considered vile to Muslims. But methinks that’s gonna be a real flashpoint in the coming "clash of civilizations".

Caroline--does that also mean my 2 Brittany Spaniels? If it does then I'm with you gal.

And I think you will say yes, so I am with you Lady.

My God. Talk about micromanagement!

Bob Al-Harb,

I believe the Vinegar Bible was a 16th- or 17th-century bible, so called because of a misprint in which the 'Parable of the Vineyard' came out as the 'Parable of the Vinegar'.

Off to make myself a potato salad with LOTS of mayo.

WSW

Bobalharb: "does that also mean my 2 Brittany Spaniels?"

It most certainly does! Zero negotiation on the dogs!

I am waiting for the day that JW posts that Frenchmen are no longer permitted to bring their pooches into restaurants for fear of offending Muslims. That will be "the shot heard round the world" for us dog lovers.:-)

Stopping "Islamic Extremists" is not as effective as stopping the written teachings that eventually lead to the extreme violence.

Over at LGF, Charles said

"Wearing shorts “violates the principles of Islamic religion” — but murdering athletes apparently doesn’t."

Good point.

Wild Slutty Womens... Don't non-Muslims get 72 of you instead of virgins when we die?

Here is a serious question--that number 70--or 72--that comes up often--in the old Jewish writing too--where does it come from--serious question.

bobalharb,

The number 70 (or 72) does come up with a certain mystical significance in Judaism and early Christianity.

Seventy is the number of the nations enumerated in Genesis (Bereshit). Rabbi Elazar observed that altogether there were a total of 70 bulls offered on Succot for the welfare of the 70 nations of the world. Elsewhere Rabbi Pinhas is quoted to the same effect: that the 70 bulls for the 70 nations would prevent the world from ever being depopulated; or in still another text, that they might dwell in peace.

By the time of Rashi in the 11th century (d. 1105), the universal spin given to Succot by the early Rabbis is gone. In his comment to Numbers 29:18, Rashi explains the significance of the 70 bulls in a strikingly different way: "The number alludes to the 70 nations of idolaters who steadily dwindle and decline, a sign of their destruction.

The late 13th century biblical commentator, the Baal HaTurim, notes that the Hebrew word used in Deuteronomy 30:19 "Therefore choose life that you may live, you and your seed" isn’t the usual "L’chaim," but "B’chaim." He suggests that the reason "B’chaim" was chosen is because its numerical value equals 70, and the number 70 teaches us lessons about life that are important to remember:

First he notes, the normal life span of man is 70, as Moses taught us in his famous Psalm, "The days of our years are 70, and if with strength, 80 years" (Psalm 90:8). Seventy years passes way too fast for one to ever be able to say, "I have time to kill." No ethical society can tolerate murder, and likewise no one should murder time, for the ultimate gift is time itself.

70 is also associated with another concept that is basic to Jewish life. Certain sages say that there are "70 ways to interpret the Torah" but I'll leave that one to a Jewish scholar (perhaps Eliyahu or Igor) to explain since I'm not qualified.

2200 years ago, King Ptolemy of Egypt forced 70 Jewish scholars (some writings say 72) to gather and translate the Hebrew Bible into Greek. Even though the Talmud relates to us that this project was blessed with a miracle -- the 70 scholars were all placed in separate cubicles and yet they all came up with the exact same translation. This translation -- the Septuagint -- eventually became the basis for the Old Testament section of the Christian bible. The Greek translation of the Bible also further aided the advance of the agenda of the Hellenist Jews to bring Greek culture into Jewish life, and to attempt to reform Judaism in the image of Greek values and lifestyle. The "koshering" of the Greek language by its use in translating the Hebrew Bible had wide ramifications in Jewish society.

Finally, while Jesus had 12 primary apostles that travelled around with him, the New Testament also refers to "the Seventy" disciples. It was from this group of 70 that Mathias was chosen to replace Judas Iscariot after his betrayal and suicide (Acts 1:12–26).

Hey, Thank you Provoslavni--I will follow that out. Thank you very much for your help.

Provoslavni--I quess I would ask--how did that get translated over into Islam?

bobalharb asked: how did that get translated over into Islam?

Simple: All the violent stuff (the Medinan Suras) is from Mohammed's own sick mind or from a demon masquerading as Gabriel.

Any of the positive stuff, i.e Moses, Mary, Jesus and the other Meccan suras are plagiarized from Jewish, Christian and other religious stories. They are also very mixed up, such as the Quran has the Virgin Mary being Moses' sister.

Thanks, Provo, that helps--have a good holiday--if you are in the States--it's remember day here.

This story reminds of another Arab athlete. He was an accomplished student at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem [another indication of Israeli apartheid]. He used to like to run or jog at night from his home in the Beyt Hanina neighborhood to the university, passing through the Jewish Tsameret haBirah neighborhood on the eastern slope of French Hill, near the university. Then he would jog back. One night, some of his Muslim brethren decided to kill a Jew with their gun. So they drove to Tsameret haBirah and waited on the street in their car for a Jew to turn up. Along came this Arab athlete, who was also a good student at the university. Thinking he was a Jew [not the first time terrorists mistook a fellow Arab for a Jew], they shot him and drove away. He did not survive this act of jihad. Ironically [or sadly], his grandfather had also been killed by Arab terrorists, by an exploding refrigerator in Zion Square more than 30 years before. Ironically, the father was a lawyer who sometimes did work for the palestinian authority.
