ZAMBOANGA, Philippines - The Philippines military said on Thursday it believed a militant Islamic group with links to Al Qaeda was behind the kidnapping of a nine-year-old girl in the southern island of Basilan.Gunmen believed to be Abu Sayyaf rebels abducted Donna May Ramos, the daughter of a village official, along with a friend while they were playing Wednesday, it said. The other girl managed to escape.
The girl’s father is a town councilor in Basilan, a stronghold of the Abu Sayyaf and other armed Muslim groups.
Provincial police chief Superintendent Clifford Gairanud said there were no immediate demands for ransom and the motive for the abduction was unknown.
It's obvious - marriage.
In fact they're doing her a favour by making her get married. She'll be ten next year, well past her sell-by date.
I don't know what the age limit for girls to be married in the Phillipines is but it's nine in Turkey.
Kidnap children, marry children, call all other religions false and prosecute the practitioners, and basically kill individual citizens of the world for trying to live as free people. Little wonder Islam is the nidus of creeps, and Al-Qaida is main parasite.

The little girl's name is "Donna May." That could be a Christian name. Christians in the southern part of the Philippines are coming under increased pressure from Muslim groups. Many have moved north. God help save that little girl and her family.

Good point. After a little searching of the internet I wasn't surprised to see that this was a common misunderstanding amongst us less discerning folk particularly after the events of 9/11 where the Sikhs were being tarred with the same brush as the Muslims.
So to get it straight; The Sikh turban consists of a long cotton scarf of varying colour that is turned around the head in a clockwise direction. The turban of the Muslim is similar but with a bomb on top.

Phillipines is a Catholic nation, previously colonized by the US, so I wouldn't expect barbaric laws to run there. Most of that country is pretty much okay, except for Mindanao, where the MORO National Liberation Front and Abu Sayyaf run things.

Actually, the Republic of the Philippines is a Roman Catholic country due to being colonized by Spain. America took it from the latter after the Spanish-American War.
