This is getting embarrassing. Do you think they are embarrassed? You know, all the others? The people who run us, who tell us what to think, who supposedly protect us? Tom Friedman and Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter and James Baker, Madeline Albright and George Bush, and all the others -- le tout Washington, Scheuer of the CIA (with all the worldliness and comprehension of Islam of a schoolboy raising hamsters for a 4-H club project), and all those in the CIA and the FBI and the local police who are, in their silence, in their miscomprehension, in their ignorance, about Islaml, always misunderstanding things, always underestimating and misunderestimating the origins, the nature, the potential scope, of the menace, always unable to articulate properly, always unable to account for much of the data as so many of them ignore any of the instruments of Jhad beyond that well-publicized one of "terror" and ignore all theatres of that war outside the Middle East, with its Lesser Jihad against Israel (often mistaken as a "nationalist uprising" by the "Palestinian people").

When will the intelligent replace the stupid? In time, or not in time? How long will it take?

The world should be more worried about nuclear weapons falling into the hands of terrorists than about Iran's nuclear program, the head of the UN's nuclear watchdog agency said Friday.

I'm not sure any evidence is going to convince the people who've invested their lives and careers on bankrupt ideologies, myths, and delusions. Certainly everyone is wrong about some things, or many things, but education, media, politics, and political theory had relegated this sort of warfare to the dustbin of history. The notion it could flare up again in our Space Age World seemed preposterous to most of them.

Marxists, progressives, multicult leaders, and the like, seem to think the aggressors are just another oppressed minority pet they can slip under their big tent of grievances.

Islam's apologists have done a masterful propaganda and historical revisionist job on education. Their victimization specialists know us better than we know ourselves. Whenever a jihadist writes something to the public, they carefully select the buzzwords and terms which are sure to paralyze or pacify the uneducated but communicate a completely different message to the ummah.

Underestimating the enemy has cost us dearly so far. I doubt one criminal case in North Carolina, however instructive, will change many minds. There's almost no possibility the mainstream media will report on this material.

As for the Daily Tarheel, they can feel good about doing real journalism when it's become a rarity. In a world where the number of outlets seems to be increasing exponentially, most still rely on the miserable reporting of three major wire services.

It used to be hard to believe someone so intelligent, educated, and conversant on topics from philosophy to physics could decide to kill strangers for God. Not any more.

His writing shows the confusion of a young man beginning to grapple with knowledge, confounded by absolutism, but these letters take insanity right off the table. He's accomplished at making an argument. Another overdose on Islam. Just say no, kids.

I was actually thinking he could be a CIA operative, you know.... a double agent.... doing his job to show the world the REAL and following instructions by "the Book" twisted logic of the pious Jihadist.

Reza Taheri's document does a good job at revealing the Quran for the murder-manual it is. His understanding of the true nature of the Muslim holy book is as clear as that of Robert and Hugh.

He's now pleading not guilty. Why are they always so brave when they're committing the crimes and then turn into a wimpy yellow bellied..chicken when it comes time to face the music?

His lawyers must be having fits. Taheri-azar comes across as intelligent, organized, in control of his actions, able to make judgments, seemingly quite aware that injuring/hurting people is not socially acceptable etc etc. I think that the legal test for insanity has something to do with "ability to know right from wrong." And he certainly seems to.

Yet...yet...he is obviously (in my practical framework) "crazy."

Several years ago I noticed something which most lawyers would claim isn't possible. A Muslim can be legally "insane" (sort of, but not, because there's no disease of defect of the mind) and yet not be clinically insane. There's an army of psychologists out there who will give you a diagnosis of insanity for $300, or more/hour. I mean among unbiased psychologists.

The point is that his right is so wrong by our way of thinking it's impossible to say he understands right from wrong in our society.
On the other hand, Ward Churchill, and hundreds of similar professors, think pretty much the same way.

The UNC jihadi's essay on being and first causation is completely lucid and something Thomas Aquinas would recognize immediately as his "first cause" or "first mover" theories, albeit with too much added confusion tossed in from modern pseudo-philosophy.

Keep a close eye on CAIR. They have to shut this guy up. My prediction: A privately hired attorney appears, a sudden change of plea to guilty, and a generous payoff, unreported, courtesy some saudi benefactor, to this individual's family. Either that, or he suffers a sudden and severe debilitation while in jail awaiting trial. And by the way, writing and e-mail priviledges hereby revoked.

This letter of course is not at all surprising to regular readers of JW. It's all there - everything JW has been saying for years now. Just to double-check what I thought was the case, I just googled the word "jihad" and lo and behold, this site is the very first site that comes up.

It's now 5 years after 9/11. There is ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE WHATSOEVER for any half-sentient person paying attention to world events, LET ALONE our leaders and all the other folks that Hugh mentions in his post - but added to that list JOURNALISTS worldwide, whose job it is to be informed - to be ignorant about the Koranic injunction to wage jihad against dar al-Harb. There is no excuse whatsoever to be ignorant about basic concepts such as "abrogation" and "taqiyya", and the facts about Muhammad's life and his journey from Meccca to Medina and the concept of the Muslim hudna and so on and so on.

We need to focus on the manifold reasons for this willful ignorance. We know by now that a good part of it stems from the fact that Muslims have co-opted the Jewish claims to victimhood and that the charge of "islamophobia" is designed precisely to silence well-meaning westerners by playing to their deep fears that they could possibly bring about a "second holocaust" - this time of the Muslims. It's a reasonable fear but it would take an entire book practically to straighten out that confusion.

But next to that, there is what can only be described as "arrogance" and "hubris" on the part of these same westerners. It is simply arrogant to place oneself at the center of the universe and imagine that people outside the western orbit can only be motivated by insanity, or poverty (money? LOL!) or in response to something WE have done?

On the contrary, recognition of what ACTUALLY fuels the jihad is FAR more respectful. Of course, I respect lions and tigers and wolves too. And when they wander into our back yards I recognize - with all due respect for their nature - just how much of a threat they actually represent to our children. And because I actually RESPECT lions and tigers and wolves - I recognize what needs to be done to prevent them from their preying on our children.

When it came to education regarding Islam, i believe the early "educators" took the line that "Ignorance is Bliss".
Perhaps due the evidence of its negative scientific and cultural achievements, they judged that it was not a threst to western society, merely a backwards religion of the dark ages that had unlike Christianity never reformed and abandoned its supremacist and exterminationist views. An arrogant and dangerous notion indeed.

So generations of students grew up in total ignorance and in that ignorance even romanticised a la "lawrence arabia" the noble savages who daringly crossed unhospitable desserts on camels.

As for the left/right deal in Islam, I'm pretty certain Muhammad was obsessive-compulsive (among other things), due to his fixations with cleanliness, with rituals and their proper execution, and with numbers: For example, his saying one must use an odd number of stones to clean up with after using the privy (and not using one's right hand, Allah forbid!).

If it's not unique in having a hangup about lefthandedness (my kindergarten teacher tried like hell to get me to switch), Islam is surely unique in the magnitude to which that hangup is enshrined in law.

This is the kind of micromanagement that Taheri-azar seems to be enthralled with, and which he would impose on the rest of us if he could.

It should be obvious to the posters here, that no amount of evidence will change the opinions of the MSM and their willing exececutioners of truth, on the realities of islam.

I think it would be helpful to adopt some new distinctions: we can say that all authentic Muslims are legally and clinically sane, but philosophically insane ("pneumopathological" was the term coined by the great 20th-century philosopher, Eric Voegelin, meaning "having a disease of the spirit"). All those Muslims who are not fully authentic, but who are in various twilight stages of extrication from that totalitarian pneumopathology may be said to be, to one degree or another, on their way to philosophical sanity (with, however, a high and difficult-to-predict recidivism rate a peculiar feature of the Islamic Welt and Weltanschauung).

Tell you who is crazy and no.. not Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar, but:

"crazy" Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar, right before / after the congratulatory letter to Mujahid / Al Shahid Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar is drafter and signed, followed by a proud 'Allah Hu-Akbar'.

Imagine yourself an exile from the Islamic Republic of Iran. Not a Zoroastrian (not many of those left), not a Baha'i, not a Jew, not a Christian Armenian, but a Muslim. You might have been a member, or a child of a member, of the ancien regime. Perhaps such names as "Cyrus" and "Darius" run in your family, names redolent of pre-Islamic Persia. Perhaps your family or you are resolutely secular. Nonetheless, even in the West, you continued to call yourself a "Muslim." You told your children that the kind of Islam that you believe in "has nothing to do with the kind of Islam that is violent, aggressive, and so on." You tell them that you are a "cultural" Muslim. You tell them not to take too seriously a large part of the Qur'an and the Hadith -- to "take the good and leave the bad." You tell them that they can consider themselves, just like you do, "culturally Muslims." That should do, you think to yourself.

Unfortunately, children do wild and crazy things. There is no telling what will happen. Consider the case of Russian Jewish refugees from the Soviet Union, former refuseniks, discovering to their dismay that their own children, raised from an early age, or perhaps even born, in the West, do not share their political views, but rather have been influenced, it seems, by all those Clinton and Dean supporters to be met at the local reform synagogue.

It is the same with Muslim refugees from the too-much-Islam of the Islamic Republic of Iran. They assume that their children will understand, will like them limit their identification with Islam to that "cultural Muslim" business, so that they will remain "Muslim-for-identification-purposes-only" Muslms. But what if they don't? What if something happens to them? What if they begin, slowly, to start "redisovering" Islam in this land where many are so busy with their geneaologies and their investigating their Old-world roots? Perhaps one would feel a certain defensiveness about Islam, and that in turn might lead to a greater identification with it. Reza Taheri-Azar, according to his own letters to Shannon Bowen of the Daily Tar Heel, had parents and siblings who are "American citizens and taxpayers" (as he put it) and who gave little sign, or no sign, of taking the Qur'an to heart, or being the "real Muslim" that Reza Taheri-Azar turned out to be.

Is there a lesson here for "Muslim-for-identification-purposes-only" Muslims living in the West? Yes. Unless you are prepared to make a complete break with Islam, to sever the line, and to raise your children as apostates who are taught to see through the totalitarian belief-system of Islam, and if they are Iranian by descent, taught to view Islam as a poisoned chalice imposed on the superior Persians by the primitive Arabs (which not only accords with the truth, but allows for an "Iranian identity" to be emphasized over the "Islamic one" and gives people, should they wish -- and apparently many wish -- something with which to label themselves.

Explain to them just how, over time, the system of the dhimmi forced so many to convert to Islam, even without the threat of immediate death. Explain all the disablitites. Wonder aloud about the horrific conditions that must have caused your own ancestors -- that is, the ancestors of your children -- to accept Islam, in order to escape the burden of being a non-Muslim in a land ruled by Muslims.

Keep this up. Give them Ibn Warraq's "Why I Am Not a Muslim" and "Leaving Islam." Give them "The Myth of Islamic Tolerance" and "The Legacy of Jihad." Give them Ali Dashti's "23 Days." Give them Mary Boyce's books on the Zoroastrians, and even her studies of the last living remnants of Zoroastrianiam. Give them Firdowsi, Hafiz, Sa'adi, Omar Khayyam, and explain how each was so un-Islamic, and how all of them, but especially the first, managed through their art to protect Persians from the lingustic and cultural imperialism of the Arabs, and explain, and keep explaining, how Islam has bgeen a vehicle of Arab supremacism.

Keep it up, if you never want, at some point in the future, your children, your grandchildren, your great- grandchildren, in a fit of spiritual searching, a fit of depression, a fit of anomie, a fit of anything at all, to suddenly "redisvoer" Islam. Protect your children. Get them out now. Don't rely on their being sophisticated Westernized people when they grow up. Cut that cord with Islam now, for their future sake, when you will no longer be around to direct or instruct them.

Surely the parents of this Taheri-Azar, when they read what we can all read above, will have wished they had done so.

Islam stunts the mental growth. It attracts, in the Western world, the most psychically marginal. Those who are born into it, through no fault of their own, and who can get out of it, should get out of it, and no longer assume that being sophisticated, westernized, essentially non-Muslim Muslims, is enough. Not for your children it isn't. They don't always know how to read those signals. Help them now.

The Koran excises the feelings of Guilt from jihadists that commit murder.Islam legitimizes. permits and encourages the evil which is latent in all men.
Since guilt lead to shame they feel no shame for their actions either.
That is why there were no sackcloth and ashes after 911.
Westerners feel guilt and shame for their evil deeds because evil is forbidden by Judeo christianity.
Thus the war is very one sided in this respect.
In days of old , crusaders would spend days inside churches before and after battle to absolve themselves of those sins.
No such thing exists today, only the stonings of soldiers by their own side, when civilians are accidently killed, often because terrorists are using them as human shields.
By accepting the worthy principles of "civilised warfare', we unfortuanetely created a rod for the backs of our own soldiers, when we are facing an enemy that has no such reservations and feel no guilt or shame over their actions.

About this left hand/right hand thing. It is strictly a matter of hygiene.
You eat with the right hand and take care of bodily cleanliness with the left. That is why if a Muslim loses a right hand he is ostracised, especially when it comes to communal eating. Dipping into the food with a contaminated is a real no-no.
A little variation on this is to remove the right hand and left foot. Then if you have an inclination to polute the communal bowl, you probably can't get to it anyway.

I did my time in the hippie army in the 70s. ( Her Majesty's 3rd Ganja and Charas Smokers ) . I served in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand , Burma, India, Nepal & Sri Lanka. The method descibed by cactus is traditional in all these countries and only the first two are Mohammedan .

The method , while seeming crude from the comfort of a western abode, is the only practical alternative in the "field" (as it were .)and is quickly adapted to. As long as there is a source of water to clean your hand after the deed ( which there always is) its no big deal.

People there have enough trouble affording rice and some basic vegetables to go with it. A roll of TP is a luxury item costing an amount that would feed a family for a day. Do you think the average villager calls out to his wife as she goes out "hey honey, dont forget to swing by Safeway and pick up some ultra- soft triple ply in lilac." For a start there aint a Safeway .
Believe me , it aint on the shopping list.

Iran Focus

London, May 13 – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) had provided the insurgent group al-Qaeda in Iraq heavy weapons including anti-aircraft missiles, it emerged on Friday.

The Iraqi daily az-Zaman which is published in London and Baghdad quoted credible Iraqi sources as revealing that the IRGC had given al-Qaeda in Iraq, Strela-type SAM-7 surface-to-air missiles, modern explosives, and a large number of personnel arms including Kalashnikovs and BKC machineguns.

Al-Qaeda in Iraq is believed to be led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, who is on the United States’ wanted list.

The report said that representatives of al-Zarqawi’s group met in Beirut with members of the Iran-backed Lebanese group Hezbollah and through them established channels with Tehran.

Three close aides to al-Zarqawi travelled to Iran via a security checkpoint in the Iraqi border province of al-Amara from where they met with Iranian officials, the report added.

The United States and Iraqi officials have accused Iran’s radical Islamic government of sending agents and arms into Iraq to assist the insurgency.

The IRGC was founded in the early days of the Islamic revolution in 1979 as an armed force loyal to Iran’s clerical rulers. Its commanders directly report to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and their mission is to “protect and propagate” the Islamic revolution.

We've seen this before in the case of the jihadi who murdered Theo Van Gogh. Jihadis do not feel any sympathy or pity for their victims or their relatives. How can they as know that allah ordered them to mass murder? I believe psychiatrists define this as command schizophrenia. If this is the case then Jihadis could be suffering from a mental affliction. I'm just guessing here and would like to know more.

How do we get the word out ? Last week I responded to an AP reporters article in our local newspaper presenting the notion that all Jihadists are different ie., Hamas does not have the same intention as bin Laden etc. In a stern reaction to this lie, I submitted an editorial to the paper showing that indeed all the Jihadists, including the ones in Sudan, have the same intention: subjugation or annihilation of non-believers. I supplied passages from the Koran showing that it was the inspiration for this murderous idealogy and I gave them examples of jihadists includind Taheri-azar and Moussouie who have quoted the Koran as their excuse to murder innocent people. I stated that the Southern Sudanese tribesman did not want to make truce with the Islamic government that was murdering them because some of them were Muslims and knew what the ultimate intent was of these tyrants.

I was careful to try to present facts for my thinking so as not to be branded racist or hateful. One of our representatives, McGovern was arrested outside tyhe Sudanese consulate because he worried for his children and could no longer take what was happening in Sudan. I told him if he cared about his children escaping the grips of Sharia he should also study some of the law cases like al-Arian in Florida and CAIR in order to protect us from the "wolves in sheep clothing" in our own country.

What happened? Zero... No response from the paper... no printing of article...silence....

I wouldn't assume that there was no reaction to your letter. Who knows what chain reaction you may have started in the mind of a reporter, or secretary, or editor. They may have discarded your letter, but a day or two later their curiosity will begin to awaken. With your direct Qur'anic quotations, maybe they would be tempted to seek out a Qur'an for themselves to see if you had manufactured such horrible and violent statements, or if you had somehow "taken it out of context". Yes, there must be some context that explains "kill [the infidels] wherever you find them", they will begin looking for it. And then their jaw will drop, and their face will become ashen. And another person will have awoken.

There are many of us sending letters to newspapers or regional politicians. I wouldn't assume that there has been no effect. The jihadists see this as a thousand year struggle. So should we. If one newspaper doesn't publish one letter, just move on to the next skirmish.
