Saudi Says 16 to Be Freed From Guantanamo

Why these men? Why Saudis? Who made this decision? Under what circumstances, and under what pressure? What steps will be taken by our Friend and Ally to ensure that they never return to the jihad?

From AP, with thanks to the Constantinpolitan Irredentist:

The United States will release 16 Saudi Arabian nationals this week from the Guantanamo Bay prison camp for suspected terrorists, Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal said Wednesday.

An estimated 100 Saudis are being held at the U.S. military prison in Cuba, some of them for more than four years. Their detention has been an irritant in the otherwise improving relationship between the Bush administration and the Saudi kingdom, which U.S. officials say has been helpful in tracking and stopping terrorism since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Most of the 19 hijackers were Saudi.

"It took us how many years to get them back?" Saud told reporters. "It hasn't been easy."...

Saud told reporters that the 16 men are the first Saudis to be released, but another Saudi had said late last year that a handful had already been released.

The 16 will be jailed upon their return to Saudi Arabia. Some may eventually go on trial if there is evidence against them, or they could be released after a judicial review, Saud said. He would not release the men's names.

sure, let em go.Its not like almost all of the hijackers on 9/11 were saudie.

Let 'em go. Just radio tag them before releasing them back into the wild.

"Improving relationship"? How could such a perfect relationship get any better? Yes, please get rid of the only irritant, the detention of hundreds of men caught trying to kill U.S. troops in Afghanistan. If we would just stop resisting, things could get even better.

Was Michael Moore right in his film "Farenheit 9/11"?

Why do the saudi's always get special treatment like after 9/11 when they were all allowed to fly out and I was stuck in Arizona and couldn't get back to Australia for many, many days?

I have my doubts about Michael Moore but they are diminishing by the minute!

As I emailed Bush many times:

Why were these terrorists, saboteurs, and spies not given battlefield trials and shot?

No Gitmo p.r. nonsense making the U.S. look bad for years in the world press.

No U.N. b.s. pontificating about "torture".

No released to return-to-fight killers.

No wasted tax dollars for prisoners' Korans, etc..

No hysterical Islamic deaths over a rumor of one such textbook of terror being "flushed".

This pussyfooting is making us look like suckers.

And our leadership look like dithering idiots.

Even more reason to never take prisoners, they don't.

If they fight in uniform, and do not perform acts of sabotage, spying or terrorism, they get prisoner of war status.

Otherwise, they get a cigarette, and blindfold and a grave.
