At January 3, 2006, Nazanin was sentenced to death for murder by a criminal court. The Court of Appeal will review her sentence, and if upheld there, it must be confirmed by the Supreme Court, before she can be executed.According to the Iranian daily Etemaad, then 17-year-old Nazanin and her niece had been spending some time in a park west of Tehran with their boyfriends, when three men started harassing them.
The girls` boyfriends fled from the scene, leaving them helpless behind. The men pushed Nazanin and her niece down on the ground and tried to rape them, and to protect herself, she took out a knife from her pocket and stabbed one of the men in the hand.The girls tried to escape, but the men overtook them, and at this point, Nazanin stabbed one of the other men in the chest, which eventually killed him. According to the newspaper, she broke down in tears when she told the court: "I wanted to defend myself and my niece. I did not want to kill that boy. At the heat of the moment I did not know what to do because no one came to our help." Nevertheless, the court sentenced her to death by hanging.
In a western country Nazanin would probably be acquitted or at most receive a short prison sentence, as she obviously acted in self-defense. Furthermore, since she was only 17 years old, she would be treated as a minor. In Iran however, the minimum age for the death penalty is 15 years for males, and 9, yes nine years for females. Although there is no record of girls that young being executed, the fact that the law opens for this speaks clearly about what kind regime Iran is.
Another point worth noticing, is that if Nazanin had let the men rape her, she could in the worst case have been arrested for extra-martial sex, which carries a maximum penalty of 100 lashes.
Even more horrific, more unjust, more outrageous (if any of this is possible) than Nazanin's case is the plight of Leyla Mafi (scroll to the bottom of the page on the Nazanin link).
Here, horrror gets piled upon horror. An 8-year-old forced into prostitution by her mother? What does the Islamic Rebulic of Iran think of this? Well, for the mighty Mullahs, flogging a 9-year-old who has just given birth seems to be one of the preferred methods of social control.
From the Nazanin link: Leyla Mafi was forced into prostitution by her mother when she was eight years. She got pregnant and received her first child when she was nine. For this she was sentenced to and received 100 lashes for prostitution. She gave birth to twins at 14, for which she was whipped again.
That wasn't the end. The horrendous litany of sick-minded "punishments" later inflicted on this young woman, who may be developmentally handicapped, by the mighty Islamic Rebuplic of Iran is hard to stomach.
"Torture and crush the weak defenseless female, anyone who threatens to expose our own warped sexuality" -- this seems to be the only rationale for such inhumanity.
This is the most ridiculous culture. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.
And what is more insane is the fact they consider a girl of nine, to be a woman. How many know a nine year old girl with the mentality of a woman. I don't. My neice is two years older and she's NOWHERE near being a woman. Muslims are pedophile's and that's all there is to it. Cult sanctioned pedophiles.

And for reasons everyone knows. One of the laws changed at once under the Khomeini regime was to reduce the marriageable age of girls to nine. That was done so that Iranian men could properly emulate Muhammad, uswa hasana al-insan al-kamil. If nine-year-old Aisha was good enough for him to marry (she first caught his eye when she was six), back in Arabia, circa 620, then surely it was right and proper for Muslims living in Iran, in 1980 (what's 1360 years when you're having fun?), to do the same.
And if you are fully capable of being married and having sexual intercourse, then of course it doth follow as the day the night that you possess full adult responsiblity for your acts. And while women are inferior to men, somehow they acqire that responsibility, according to the criminal code in the Islamic Republic of Iran, at the age of nine, while boys only achieve it at the age of fifteen.
It all makes perfect sense.
I'm sorry, but if the girl didn't have 4 male witnesses (of good character) observing the rape, then it can't be proved. That's Sharia for you.
If this is divine law, transmitted directly from the deity, then he must be suffering from serious mental health problems.
Look at the bright side of this otherwise tragic event. There is one less raping mohammedean walking on this planet today. This is good news indeed!

So she was dead nobody what. As soon as those boys decided to rape her, she was dead. Either by her father, or by the government. But at least this way, she dies without having been raped. So she chose the correct path.

The saddest thing is , she protected herself from the attackers, but before her sentence is carried out, the jailors will "muta" marry her and rape her. Virgins are not allowed to be killed, because a virgin would go to "paradise".
Shouldn't there be an extra charge for carrying a knife, as well?

In Karachi Pakistan if a women goes in to report that she has been raped, the policeman keep her there for a week or more and she is then repeatedly raped by all the officers, known as the Karachi Cops.
The Islamic woman is as good as dead if she loses her virginity before marriage.
Another case covered by CNN, where a Pakistani woman chose to marry a fellow student at her medical college. Her family though, had planned for her to marry her first cousin and forced her into an engagement. But when she returned to school she married the man of her choice - who by the way is a doctor. Now the family has formally charged her with adultery??!! - A charge which could result in her being stoned to death if she returns to her village area.
The young woman and her husband sought the help of a human rights organization and has complained that all Muslim women are expected to do is have children and do the housework.
These problems will only disappear when Muslim women stand up for their rights themselves. Only when they say enough is enough that they will gain control over their lives and in particular when mothers are prepared to help their daughters.

Islamic women are part of islam by choice. Most of them. Some of the most virulent defenders of islam on TV are women. One half of the population can never successfully oppress the over half if the other half will have none of it. Islamic women for the most part are proud to be islamic, proud to wear the hajib and burka, and proud to send their sons to blow themselves and others up. They are just as sick from Mohammad's disease as the men. When the towers fell on 9/11, the women danced in the streets, too. They are not prisoners of islam. They are the soldiers of islam.

I believe the way the "good" Muslims see this is that the young girl got what she deserved for being out with friends and boyfriends rather than a male family member protector. She likely was not veiled, making her responsible for the rape as she "enticed" the men who couldn't help themselves.

She must have been wearing her hajib in an especially provocative way to arouse the men, so it is still her fault. "Letting" the men rape her is just proof that she was a harlot and deserves to be killed. What a sick bunch of bastards. Where are the Mohammedan trolls who populate this site?
