The Vice Premier of Israel, long notorious as a soft-talking compriser, answers Ahmadinejad's lust for genocide in strong terms. 1938 Alert: "Peres: Iran must remember it can also be wiped out," from Reuters, with thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist:
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has called for Israel to be wiped off the map, should bear in mind that his own country could also be destroyed, Vice Premier Shimon Peres said Monday.Peres said Iran was mocking the international community's attempts to resolve the crisis over its nuclear ambitions and that the credibility of the United Nations Security Council was on the line.
In what Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has described as a threat that must be taken seriously, Ahmadinejad has called for Israel to be destroyed.
"They want to wipe out Israel ... Now when it comes to destruction, Iran too can be destroyed [but] I don't suggest to say an eye for an eye," Peres told Reuters.
"Israel would defend itself under any condition but we don't look upon it as an Iranian-Israeli conflict exclusively... [Iran] is basically a danger to the world, not just to us."
Indeed.
Yeah boy! But he was being nice when he said the "credibility of the U.N." The U.N. is as useless as t#ts on a boar hog. The world needs to get behind Israel and take the threats seriously and make the decision swift.
This is a serious statement from someone who knows the game.
Iran this is your first REAL warning.
Iran] is basically a danger to the world, not just to us."
Did you mean to say basic danger to the non-Moslem world, Shimon? Or, did you too attend Brandeis?

Give em hell Israel.
Maybe Israel will have the cojones to do what must be done to Iran--and that would be to detonate Electro Magnetic Impulse weapons over Iranian airspace and thus render it incapable of launching the missiles laden with nuclear explosives it plans to launch at the western world and Israel.
This little doggie, ( Isreal ) has a real SHARP bite.
A big league statement from one who knows. It's big league because Israel knows the enemy and won't play around as far as iran is concerned. Iran may end up glowing in the dark.
Quoting a bumper sticker I saw:

"...detonate Electro Magnetic Impulse weapons over Iranian airspace..."

Honestly friend, I don't see that as being such a bad idea. It would be a military strike, but one that involved non-lethal weapons (just so the U.N. dhimmi's would be a little quieter) so there would be no huge backlash against Israel and Voi-La, problem solved (for the time being). I think that would be a better start than a direct military strike via cruise missles and the such. Think about it, Iran is ready to launch missles at Israel and US installations, then Omar presses the button and it doesn't work. Then they get so pissed off they start jihading their computers and again, Voila, no more computer systems (and they're too dumb to build new ones) problem solved again....
peace out,
erik
As far as I'm aware, an electro-magnetic pulse is ineffectual against anything contained in a Faraday cage: surely putting something inside a stainless steel jacket or even a car is hardly rocket science.
I don't get the Iranian policy at the moment: they know that they will be attacked by the US, Israel or both, rather than be allowed to develope nuclear weapons.
Perhaps they're putting thar faith in concealment - after all, after the 10 and 1/2 week bombing campaign (from 5 miles up) in Kosova the Serbs pulled out with enough armour and artillery to equip a couple of divisions not to mention half a dozen Migs that they flew out of Pristina airport. All that took place in a relatively confined area, although crucially, it wasn't a featureless, flat desert. It looks as though NATO had been bombing inflatable rubber tanks and plywood command HQ's all that time. Then there was all that hide and seek business with scuds during the first Iraq war.
US inelligence had better be pretty good, and preferably not just from aerial surveillance, before making any strikes.
When even the appeaser's appeaser Shimon Peres is talking (however temporarily) tough, you know Israel means business. Bless Israel, may she one day again have leaders worthy of her.
I am new to posting on this site but I have been following it for months now. I have been wondering if simply having the S. Arabia block Irannian pilgims to Mecca because of their governments stand on the nuclear issue would be productive at all. It would be very hard to get them to do it, but I think something like this would mean alot comming from a muslim state. Also If the S. Arabians were unwilling to do this it would be one more thing that would show that they are not really our allies and need to be delt with.
I work in a small South Dakota middle school and I get more and more worried about the fate of my students as this thing with Iran and the Muslim world continues to grow.

this is not possible. s. arab can't do it. They themselves want the n. bomb. The s. arab prince or king or whatever they call 'em toured pakistan's nucleur facilities after the pak nuke tests in 1998. All the mo countries describe the n. bomb as the "islamic bomb". pak has it.
The real news here is Shimon Peres being on Israel's side of this conflict.
Sorry, couldn't resist
All this nonsense for prophecy to prevail?
The muslims are rallying with multiple issues to make way for the 12 imam or the Mahedi (the Saviour).
Now, when the muslims countries are powerful (& they know they could win), they would ellect (the orriginal bloodline of the imam seems to be in hiding) the 12th imam.
The 12th Imam is the only one who could declare offensive war against anyone, it is the responsibility of any muslim to obey his orders.
(Note that all the Jihad is for defence, imagine what will an offensive Jihad will be)
While one will not know if the 12th imam would do such things, he could also declare peace & change rules to accomodate peaceful treaties.
So, its a matter of time it will happen either way, be prepared & understand the rules of engagement.
Only one thing that may justify it all, is the last command from muhammad was not said (before he died). He wanted a pen to write on (to a paper / skin ++) but was recieved with mixed reactions (to give or not) from his aids. The delay made him upset. He was angry, scolded them & asks them to leave the room & spent his last breath with his wife.
I wonder what would he say? Was it to leave in peace? it leaves a big question mark.
If Im wrong, please correct me.
Iran has to know that if it attacks Israel the first reaction by Israel won't be to go into committee meeting phase. I suggest that co-ordinates are already entered in the computers and all Israel has to do is hit the button.
tjwork, I think I read somewhere that the Iranian president thinks he is the Mahdi (the expected one). It is interesting to think about this course of action by the Iranian president. Muslims say that Allah created this beautiful world and everyone in it. What gives a mere mortal the right to destroy it? Won't Allah be most displeased with that mere mortal?

Let's go
Because we have been using Depleted Uranium munitions in the ME, the whole place is glowing. They just don't know it.....yet. Iraq and Afganistan are seeing a huge increase in birth defects and multiple cancers in 30% of the population and it's growing. The ME will be uninhabitable in 10 to 20 years. The dust particles have already traveled a thousand miles in all directions from each area. That covers roughly 875 million people who will die from radiation poisoning, including our own.
Turbinehead, Texican, ironman Hondo and...I love this one...bigcatgirl...are seeing the writing on the wall: Peres' statement means Israel is going to strike. Soon. Mahmoud Ah-whatever knows it's coming too. Why else is he writing personal letters to our alleged president? Another prediction: it will not be a heavy military operation. It will be very Israeli-like. It will be a covert strike right at the heart of the problem. That little toothy greaser and his raghead croonies. You're history. Whoomp! Next?
RE: Post by Jewish GirL "Because we have been using Depleted Uranium munitions in the ME,...."
All of what you say is erroneous and I have
no idea where you have obtained such false information. Certainly, not from knowledgable
sources. Probably from a "reporter" who wishes
to gain "attention" and not the truth.
Dear Girl,
Your claim about Israel using depleted uranium is one of those bizarre lies invented by the PLO/palestinian authority propaganda machine. If depleted uranium can spread radiation around and beyond the place of use, then it would indeed be a danger to the Israeli population if it were used against the Arabs in the palestinian authority zones, because we are living so close to those Arabs. It would in that case be dangerous to the families of government officials and high army officers. There you have good reasons for Israel not using it. Further, depleted uranium metal is supposed to be very hard, hence it could be effective against tank armor and the like. But it has not been necessary since the PA/PLO have not been allowed to bring in tanks, although I have no doubt that they would like to. Moreover, there are other weapons against tanks and heavy armor that Israel has.
Shame on you for believing the Nazi-like lies of PLO/PA spokesmen [and women], such as Suha arafat, Sa'ib Erikat, Abu Rudeineh, hanan ashrawi, Leila Shahid in France, Michael Terazi, Mahdi Abdul-Hadi [I don't know that he repeated the particular lie about depleted uranium], and many others. Indeed, PLO/PA spokesmen are usually lying. Anyone who believes them is either a fool or a bit of a fanatic who is already inclined to believe anti-Jewish lies.
Eliyahu has it correctly, DU rounds are particularly unappealing for use against humans because they are so hard, they punch through softer targets like people whereas a lead round is soft enough to either fragment (doing much more damage internally) or they flatten into a mushroom shape and bounce around internally. Putting a DU round through a fighter won't have much stopping power, it might spin him around or drop him on his ass, but it won't take him out of a fight unless it's a vital area (instant or near-instant kill).
They're great against armor, very poor against "insurgents"
