Spencer book an "influential force in America"

This just in from Pakistan's The Nation (thanks to 101): My book The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (and the Crusades) is being "highlighted" by the Heritage Foundation, "which has considerable influence in the Bush Administration."

Influential forces in America may be creating a climate of paranoia. The leading conservative think-tank in Washington, "Heritage Foundation", which has considerable influence in the Bush Administration, highlights books like "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam", which supposedly warns the West about "disturbing facts about Islam and its murderous hostility to the West". It also maintains that the West cannot prevail without "pride in the superiority of Western Christian civilisation."

Thanks. That's the best news I've heard in awhile. Too bad it isn't true. In real life, I have never had any contact, outside of a few casual conversations, with anyone at the Heritage Foundation, and I have no idea that they are "highlighting my book." And certainly I think if they book were influential in the Bush Administration, Bush and Co. would be heeding my advice.

But George, Condi, Don (and anyone at Heritage), let me know if you'd like to see the book, and I'll send you each a copy, gratis.

Influential forces in America may be creating a climate of paranoia.

Laughable.

What can we expect from a world that would rather own a lie the size of Islam instead of discussing the facts surrounding its creation and its militancy? Ooh, someone pointed a finger at the Truth, must be PARANOIA!

The Truth hurts, but Lies kill.

(You can quote me on that one.)

Oh, and yes, God forbid that we are allowed to have "pride in the superiority of Western Christian civilisation."

Bad white men. Bad, bad Europeans!

Knock your heads on the ground and pray towards Mecca so that you can drum those foolish thoughts right out of your skulls....

I did read the linked article and it was the same "poor little Islam" schtick, under attack by hostile "xenophobic" forces in the west lead by the right wing U.S. administration.

Sorry dudes, but that dog don't hunt anymore.

"In Europe, too, things are not getting better. An article in the April 3 issue of the leading magazine, "The New Yorker", discusses the rise of anti-Muslim xenophobia in Holland .."

There they go again, anti-Muslim xenophobia just appears right out of the clear blue sky. Keep piling it on, the more the western world reads about Islam the better. The truth eventually bleeds out and it ain't pretty.

Constantinople-- in case you missed it, see the last paragraph here:

http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/011259.php#c209148

Robert,
Actually, many South Asian political analysts, especially in Pakistan, use sources that are way out of date. I've seen many writers confuse the Heritage Foundation and Free Congress as if they were the same institution. This mistake is often repeated on left-wing fringe websites.

The truth is that although they shared common funding sources in the 1970s, that hasn't been true since the Reagan Administration. Both foundations are very separate institutions and neither receives any kind of government funding or support.

Constantinople-- it was not my intention to compare you in any way with Ashley. My apologies if it came across as such.

That's why I only cited the last paragraph. I was trying to be reassuring in pointing out that the delay or absence of an answer should not be taken personally, but that clearly failed.

I think that I should probably just return to the position of observer and not post anything here. - from your posting above.

I'd feel awful if you did that on account of something I said. I periodically mull the same decision, though in my case for fear that I'm not making myself useful, and merely taking up space.

This is one of those days. I think I'll see what the cat is up to.

Constantinople and whomever it might concern:

Before you start hammering on Mr. Spencer, I'd like to make this simple point: I have been visiting this website for over two years. In that time I have exchanged emails on occasion with Robert Spencer, I have been treated cordially by Hugh Fitzgerald and from time to time I have been in disagreement with one or the other or both. Indeed, at one point I was quite loudly in disagreement, but God loves a debate!

I have run my own blog since 2004 and I deem it an honor to help further the readership here at JW in anyway I can by linking to it, donating and buying Robert's books.

What I have never done is EXPECT anything in return.

I know from long experience, having run several websites of varying kinds, that it is an often thankless job administering a site such as Jihad Watch, and it is going to always attract its share of ingrates, rudeness, hackers and worse.

I would therefore suggest strongly to you and anyone else that comes to JW or visits any other such blog on the web -- that you study patience, you do not ever expect too much and that you always attempt to, at the end of the day, remember that we are all in this fight together. What is discussed on here is just the beginning of what I am afraid is going to be perhaps THE WAR of our time. Most longtime JW readers would agree with that statement, I'm willing to bet. So, our own trivial egos are hardly worth a mention when it comes down to it.

Frankly, I'm just glad that Mr. Spencer and Mr. Fitzgerald believe in making a difference as strongly as I do. If it wasn't for such men (and women) we would most certainly be getting thrown to the wolves before too much longer and looking back over our shoulders and asking "Why?"

Well, we most certainly know the reasons why by now, and no thanks go to the PC media or our own Western governments.

Thanks goes almost soley to JW for opening my eyes and I am never one to forget the source of an education.

Foehammer

Spencer-

The article is bs.

People are becoming more aware everyday that Islam is Hinduphobic, Buddaphobic, Atheistphobic, Christaphobic, etc.-and they know it. They can feel the eyes of people looking at them with wonder-wondering about how they who are so intolerant of other religious beliefs can dare to pull this scam about "Islamaphobia." Why are they not concerned about with the intolerance in Saudi Arabia? People wonder.

Your influence will grow in the future because you are a rationalist who keeps pointing out obvious contradictions on this matter of Islam. You make people think. That's your talent. You will not bury that talent.

Constaninople,

I don't suppose you want to tell us which state you are running in, or what your name is. I understand the impracticality of that, but it sure would be interesting. I'll keep an ear out for a politician making salient statements on jihad.

If you're getting into politics, I hope you have a thick skin, you seem kind of confrontational with posters here (and Robert) who should be your allies. Don't tear down your coalition before it can even begin to grow.

Since i discovered Jihad Watch I have found a place where my fears are addressed rationally with great insight.
I have not read the book. Roberts book is unavailable in the Maldives (you can be sure it will be banned by the Mullah Diktator).
I will buy it on my next trip abroad. I shall smuggle and get my friends to smuggle copies of the book into the Maldives.

Does anyone out there want to find out what happens if they post the book to me? I could always say that somebody i dont know sent it to me. Of course I may have to spend time in the detention and torture chambers and get abused and beaten as a Kuffar...

Dear Constantinople:

Well, I have many, many faults, and I will not dispute your assessment of my rotten character.

I will note that from the looks of things, you have a great future ahead in politics, and if not in politics, then in diplomacy.

I also think it is worth noting that I wrote you an email apologizing at 3:30, but at 4:21 you posted the comment above, criticizing me quite harshly for ignoring you.

And I can tell you from this experience, I know what it feels like to be ignored.

Whoops, Constantinople, sorry.

A movie, "A Day Without a Mexican," graphically illustrates what would happen if, for example, California found it suddenly bereft of its Mexican workforce. American life would grind to a halt. Nevertheless, a nation of immigrants may end up criminalizing those with aspirations similar to those of the forebears of their modern-day persecutors. Defenders of the 7 million or so undocumented workers evoke and reinforce stereotypes when arguing that Americans should allow Mexican workers if only for the reason that they do lowly jobs that no Americans will touch. This is an argument for creating a permanent under-class.

What a load of crap! We Americans have worked very hard for what we have and will continue to work and invent and accomplish.
"Lowly jobs that no Americans will touch" NO...just jobs we will not do for slave wages (that have been brought about by illegal aliens working for peanuts)
You could give an analogy of a beautiful house on a hill, the poor people below want to live in the big house...so instead of earning the house, they just move into the back yard and start junking up the place. Pretty soon the big house looks just like where the people came from, Mexico. And no, I am not against Mexican-Americans (I have a much adored Grandson who is half Mexican-American.) I am just against invasion.

Dear Pig Loving Maldivian,

I'd be happy to send it to you. Send me your address info and I'll amazon it to you. alpha9884-surfer7@yahoo.com

It's excellent. But how will you distribute it's content in the Maldives? I worry about you - it could possibly really bring harm to you or persons you love, no? Does it need to be disguised for customs, or are there other measures to limit risks. Please discuss with me in email, if so.

Be strong but careful.

Constantinople wrote:

How grossly self-indulgent of you!

In the future I suggest that if you're dissatisfied with the way things are going in government, maybe you should ask yourself if you did everything you could to change it. You may even remember a time when a would-be politician solicited you for help and advice and you shunned him. I'll remind you, and everyone who hasn't run for office, that it isn't free either. I'm funding most of my own campaign and if I do get elected I will end up taking a pay cut to maintain the office. This is my sacrifice to the cause along with my years in the military.

As for the statement, "Most longtime JW readers.." I can't tell you how long I've been on here, but it's been a while. Like I said, I reached a level of disgust trying to "get through" that I just stopped trying.

Now that I'm thoroughly disgusted, I think I'll retire from the board for a while. Good day to all.

(takes a deep breath)

How shall I put this?

You sir, are pretentious.

Yes, I think that about sums it up. I thought I was quite sincere, and calm and to the point in my addressing the focus of the problem between you and Mr. Spencer, but apparently I have now myself somehow managed to bring down the ire of a future (Presidential? God help us!) candidate for office.

When it turns out that I have more tact than you, sir, I sincerely think you should keep your political ambitions more to the level of the local PTA.

Do I ask myself if I've done enough ---- LOL.

You have got to be joking, right?

It would take you several hours if not days to read my blog in its entirety.

I am a writer myself, but one of fiction, and just perhaps one day when I complete my first novel there might be some subtext there that will be relative to this conflict. I am undecided on that yet since I think such a subtext is going to develop whether I intend it to or not, so we shall see --- but I digress.

My political representatives are contacted so often that they send me personal replies and not form letters, if that says anything to you. No, have no fear, I do not WONDER about anything when it comes to my efforts. If anything, I have recently made up my mind to try to get more publicity for Spencer's Politically Incorrect Guide because I think it is the most "accessible" book of its kind and deserves to be a bestseller. So, I have started looking around to find the appropriate contacts to raise a little heat on that. If we all sent an email here or there, you might be surprised at how much can get done in that regard. "A bug in the ear."

Now, I am the one disgusted and it's hot in Texas so I think I'll stop now before I say something I might actually regret. Not to mention, the intended party will probably never even read this reply.

Foehammer
self-indulgent slacker in the fight on Islamic terror

PS The expense of Foehammer's Anvil is completely out of my own pocket and I have never so much as received a dollar from anyone, nor have I really ever asked for it. THAT is my sacrifice every month and I don't even blink because it's the right thing to do.

Constantinople

Having read your posts in the past, and your courage in putting up the cartoonjihad web site (before your webmaster forced you to bring it down), I appreciate you running for office, and wish you success. While I do think that Jihadwatch has sometimes shown questionable judgement in its choice of articles, I do think that your seemingly confrontational attitude with people who largely agree with you was needless, particularly given that going forward, you'd have to convince people who may disagree with you on certain things to support you.

There have been times when some important events in Jihad have gone on unmentioned, while some of the stories were posted way after the event, even though that event itself was discussed on the pages of J/W or D/W weeks earlier. But although one can always advocate better selection of choices, I do agree with Robert that if he is understaffed and gets hundreds of mails daily, then it is unreasonable to expect that some important ones may not fall through the cracks. But that is what makes it less impressive when less important stories make it through.

I do hope you stay, and let us know how your campaign is going. If people here have been rooting for anti-Islamic candidates, we want to know how successful such an issue/message would be at the polls, (not necessarily in your own political successes), since this is an issue that has been under the radar, and not analyzed. One suggestion though - I'd not suggest pledging to take a pay cut if elected - in the wake of the Duke Cunninghams and the like, making ethics a platform in this election is more likely to backfire. Instead, focus on this message and other issues that happen to be the top ones in your constituency, and take things from there.

Also, you had mentioned previously that you would be putting on ballot a proposition that de-recognizes Islam as a religion. Is that on the ballot, or are you still gathering the signatures? Also, while not revealing your identity, can you tell us which state this is in?

If we get to the point where these books are available online, maybe for a fee, it could get around the issue of books being banned. Maldivian, how private is Internet access in the Maldives - is there a danger that people's internet access gets monitored?

Another thing Constantinople - why not post your queries here so that more people can respond? Or are Robert and Hugh the only people whose responses you are interested in?

Speaking of Dr. Charles, I sent an email to the email address he had posted where he promised to send anyone contacting him copies of his supposed "proof" about Robert Spencer. Three days ago, I sent him my email simply asking politely for that proof. I haven't heard a peep out of him since.

Lets keep our focus and our keyboards firmly pointed at the enemy !

Infidel Pride:

To each his own, of course, and de gustibus non disputandem, but two of the three stories to which you object to seem to be those that are a bit lighter.

I reserve the right to find some laughs in the middle of covering this bleak, bleak subject day in and day out.

Constantinople:

Here's my two cents. When I have moved into new fields (and I have done this more than once) I identify more than one expert whom I want to contact. Possibly this sounds simpleminded, but in fact there are usually a few people who can be helpful. That way, if one is not available, another can serve. You may in fact have thoughts of asking R Spencer to be your major advisor in the future. But in politics, as in business, even though it's good to be focussed and driven and not-take-no-for-an-answer, sometimes the answer is no, or the time isn't right. So I'd suggest that you search for a handful of advisors, or at least three, or possibly two. Attempt everything, expect nothing. In addition, as I am sure you are more aware than I (since you are a politician), acuity in a subject does not necessarily bring a politician success. Usually what does is convincing voters and colleagues that you can get them what they want, can cut a deal, can influence people, can get something done. Which means that though you may not be totally on point regarding Islamic issues, you may still achieve a sizeable margin of success based on other factors and still be able to effect your platform.

Robert

Okay

Actually, Robert, the first one should have been this:

http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/011216.php

I apologize for copying the wrong link. Nonetheless, point taken.

Infidel,

Paul Williams explained in detail at the America's Truth Forum, where he and I spoke last weekend, why he thought Hamid Mir was credible.

I don't know for sure myself. But I'd like to know on what grounds you dismiss the story out of hand.

Also, get a web host who 1) agrees with your politics or 2) will leave you alone as a matter of principle or get your own server. That way, you can put up whatever you want (more or less)on your site.

Robert Spencer: It is hard to lighten up this effort, because the Islamics are so touchy (to put it mildly). So here's something, that if not funny, is at least touching (even though somewhat OT):

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3246548,00.html

"Yad Vashem honors the entire Danish nation as Righteous Among the Nations, in recognition of the campaign to save Denmark’s Jews in the autumn of 1943."

The Danes here are noted in their saving of the Jews as being, if not planful (like the Germans), then simply improvisational.

As we can see, they did it again with the cartoons. Our help comes from Heaven, and it comes in all forms.

Robert

I described my reservations about this in the thread in question. And judging by the comments, it seems I wasn't the only one to question the veracity of a nuke going off in Kabul or Kunar unnoticed, and a person losing only an eye as a result. This particular article was more egregious than the others, since it made the site look like Conspiracy Central - something I'd think one would like to avoid.

It is not a secret that I am not a popular poster here due to my opinion(s). I am simply an openly gay, yet anti-Islamic, American male. I am not ‘militantly’ gay regardless of what some Jwers might erroneously believe. In fact, I am fairly conservative in my private life and in my political beliefs. Moreover, my opinions are infinitely more similar to the vast majority of posters than they realize. With the exception of “social” issues (issues involving civil and gay rights), I am largely on the same page as many posters on this site. Nonetheless, on many occasions, several posters have questioned my intelligence and (perceived lack of) education.

I beleive that Mr. Spencer himself took offense at my questioning of his personal opinions regarding homosexuality when it became an issue. In my opinion, it was a timely question. Hirsi Ali’s ‘Submission’ was being celebrated; Moslems were being rightly condemned and all the while one member of Mr. Spencer’s staff person expressed radical Christian views against homosexuals. Immediately thereafter, Mr. Spencer was in Holland presumably to pay tribute to (openly gay) Pim Fortuyn, and by extension, to Van Gogh and Hirsi Ali for the (laudable) purpose of ‘safeguarding Western civilization’ and alerting the Dutch. Mr. Spencer refused to chime in on the issues that the website should not have injected into the window looking at Islam. Therefore, I stand behind my questioning of his position, which he never articulated.

It was never my intention to offend anyone at this site, particularly Mr. Spencer. I never intended to disrupt the site. I was merely challenging a viewpoint that I thought appropriate to question. In essence, I was pointing out hypocrisy.

Mr. Spencer, if you viewed my line of questioning as a personal attack, please rest assured it was not meant as such. Robert’s (or the posters’) Christianity does not generally trouble me. However, radical Christianity does annoy me tremendously, albeit infinitely less than radial Islam. I have repeatedly pointed out thay I have noticed a clear Christian agenda (which I wish did not exist as it would give this site a true appearance of neutrality). Nonetheless, my dislike for that agfenda is outweighed by the power of this site.

Few have the courage to actively expose Islam and do it well. JW does. The fact that I disagree with Robert about some issues, or with many posters here does not take away from my tremendous appreciation for the work done in posting articles here. I realize the work that goes into this. I again take this opportunity to thank Robert and his staff for their work, regardless of their likely dislike of my presence here.

Kafir Nonbeliever:

I am happy to see you here. I have long maintained that I would like to build a coalition of all the potential victims of jihad and Sharia violence, and have covered many stories at Dhimmi Watch of Islamic violence against gays. Why this isn't good enough for you is puzzling to me; I don't ask you to agree with me in order for us to make common cause -- why then do you seem to demand that I agree with you?

Infidel Pride:

I don't see anything in the story about a nuke going off unnoticed and someone losing an eye. Maybe I am just missing it -- it must be the eye I lost in that nuclear blast.

There I go with the levity again.

Cordially
Robert Spencer

The idea of a suitcase nuke is outrageous, even a thimble sized amount of U 235 or plutonium would put out enough radiation to kill the messenger.

The lead shielding necessary, changes it from a suitcase nuke to a bank vault.

Maybe I'm wrong, are there any nuclear experts on this forum?

As regards being called Islamophobe or Supremacist I get it all of the time, but first have to disabuse the assailant from the notion that I'm a racist, as we all know Islam is not a race, then I have to field the equally querulous charge that I'm antisemite, since Arabs are supposedly semites, but that takes more words, debunking the notion that all self identified Arabs are not Arabs, but identify as such merely because it is their primary language.

And there is no such thing as a semitic race or a semite (sorry folk) Semite is merely a language group, to be anti semite requires one to be "against a language" group like being anti Indo European or anti Indo Iranian.

I will admit to being AntiFrench.. the language sounds too effete, feminine, nasal and consonants are dropped or blurred (how the French can understand each other is beyond me), btw I am working diligently at trying to understand Arabic, but doubt that I will ever penetrate the veil of their script.

By the way I am a Western Supremacist, and when hit with that accusation, I pick up the cloak, don the shoes and wear them proudly.. I would not migrate to any non western or third world country, and neither would those who accuse me of being a "supremacist" and those that accuse me and live in third world (and Muslim) countries, would love to be able to migrate to the land of Western Supremacist Imperialists.

"The idea of a suitcase nuke is outrageous..."

With all respect, I strongly disagree. It is one of the greatest threats we face.
