By the way, arjun, I've been watching the late night doings at "my" mosque, too. The lateness of their hours is weird, and it is new. But I've watched them, and none of them seem to stay for very long. Maybe it's just extra prayers. The activity reminds me of Friday services.

I'm not quite willing to just let it go at that, though. I intend to get in a little closer, maybe tomorrow night. There's enough flora in the area to hide me, in the dark. Plenty of trees and tall bushes.

Caroline I think you've hit the nail on the head re: Muslims 'behaving peacefully' in India.

I also suspect that there is a ratio within each flavor of society for the critical mass of Muslims in that society. A ratio for the onset of Special Muslim Demands jihad to secure blessings for the Special Muslim People. Another ratio for Muslim comfortableness towards incitement to violence. And a third ratio for the point of no return -- i.e. Islam has established itself, and short of mass deportation or something far worse, no hope of turning their violent outbursts back. Can it be thought of in this way? What are the proper ratios?

Taking Canada as an example, the recent events may point towards a dangerous possibility. I've heard estimates of between 2%-4% density. I very often see the number of 750,000 to 1,000,000. Frankly this just seems high to me, even in such a large geographic country. Homegrown Jihad is now part of Canada's landscape so they've already gotten to stage 2. What does this mean for Canada's future? Is it something that can be quelled without mass deportations or internment?

And if their attacks get worse, which they most surely will, then the question we must become: What EXACTLY will we do about it? Deport them? Other? This discussion needs to begin all over the West -- it's really not even something we discuss here -- not at least in any meaningful way.

These are the Godhra riots you are talking about. The first time since 1947 when Hindus inflicted more casualties than they sustained. Your point is fundamentally correct. I agree with you. Only way muslims understand. What is incorrect is the number of casualties. On both sides. Search "Godhra riots" on google images if you want to.

It's interesting that you refer to "stage 2". Even the Pentagon acknowledges "stages" in the jihad which are linked to a certain "critical mass".

But I had come across the number of 10% or so in kicking into stage 3. This shouldn't be too difficult to study from an historical POV.

It seems to me that as the American public gets more and more up in arms and vocal about immigration, the basic prerequisite to enact any of this, namely a change in moral thinking about imnmigration - could become a possibility. As Auster says,

Look at how far the world seems to have come in the 2 years since he wrote that article. Two years ago, immigration was barely on the radar screen. Now its front and center. Also, we see more and more articles addressing the assumptions of multiculturalism. So it's not entirely wishful thinking to imagine that we could move in a direction where a slow reversal of things could be possible.
