Denmark: Nine people convicted in honour killing

Clash of Civilizations Update from AP, with thanks to Kaosktrl:

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) - Nine people were convicted Tuesday of murder or being an accessory to murder in the killing of a 19-year-old woman gunned down by her older brother two days after her wedding because her Pakistani family disapproved of her husband.

The 12-member jury returned guilty verdicts against the nine, all family members and friends, in the slaying of Ghazala Khan. Sentencing was expected later this week.

Khan was shot and killed Sept. 23 in Slagelse, 100 kilometres west of Copenhagen. Her husband was shot twice in the stomach but survived.

In testimony during the trial, Khan's older brother, Akthar Abbas, admitted to shooting the couple as they tried to flee to a train station, but he claimed he acted in self-defence because his brother-in-law, Emal Khan, had allegedly kicked him.

Akthar Abbas was found guilty of murder. His father, Ghulum Abbas, was found guilty of incitement to murder and masterminding the killing. Both face the maximum sentence of life imprisonment, automatically commuted to 16 years under Danish law.

Seven other people, including three of Khan's uncles, an aunt and a family friend, were found guilty of being accessories to murder.

Prosecutors alleged Ghulum Abbas had his son and other family members track down the daughter and her new husband and kill them. Ghulum Abbas pleaded not guilty.

The trial, which began in May, has highlighted disparate views on marriage between some immigrants and Danes in this country of 5.4 million. An estimated 200,000 Muslims live in Denmark.

"In some parts of the immigrant community, there are still some differences in understanding love marriages and cultural backgrounds and traditions," said Torben Ruberg Rasmussen, a professor with the University of Southern Denmark's Centre for Middle East Studies.

Abdul Wahid Petersen, a leading imam in Denmark, said Danish Muslims did not regard the honour killing as "their case."

"To us, it is not a religious case, it is a criminal case," Petersen told The Associated Press before the verdict was delivered. "But it is obvious that in many people's minds, it will be connected to Islam."

Mmm hmmm.

Differences? You could say that.

If muslims were allowed to marry for love instead of the parent seeing dollar signs or wanting to keep it "all in the family", maybe a lot of the anger in islamics might ease up.

islam just refuses for it's people to be happy. So sad.

I remember the good old days, when honor killings were honorably done by one person.

Whoe unto us!

"To us, it is not a religious case, it is a criminal case," Petersen told The Associated Press before the verdict was delivered. "But it is obvious that in many people's minds, it will be connected to Islam."

Denmark is in denial, they have been taken over by a force more evil than the Nazis, funny how the more evil a mindset is the more bleeding hearts tend to support them.

Nine people ti murder one female, The majority will be male, perhaps they thought that maybe two one one were not safe enough odds. Tells you something about the bravery of these Muslims when it takes up to nine to murder one. Not many b*lls involved.

I can't wait to see the sentencing. Akthar will probably get a year, if that much, and the rest will be told that they were really bad boys and they should promise never to do it again.

Will they be imprisoned, at the expense of the Danish state, and then ultimately released back into Danish society? Denmark should be spared that expense and that presence, and should decide that all Muslims comvicted should be sent back to be jailed in their countries of origin, or the countries of origin of their parents. Even if their sentences are shorter, the lives they will lead in those countries, outside jail, will be worse than the lives they would lead in side a Danish or other Western jail. So it will be punishment enough. And once they are released, they must never be permitted re-entry to Denmark, or to any Infidel country.

There is no right, divine or otherwise, to settle in this or that country. There is no duty, divine or otherwise, to open one's country, and one's own citizens, to dangers from those whose entire mental and moral makeup is different from the indigenes, and who are pledged, if they are serious about the belief-system that they claim to accept, to regard those indigenes with contempt and murderous hostility.

Shy Guy,

The reason, in my opinion, that it took nine conspirators to commit this murder, is that killing a family member goes so against the natural human urges that it requires mob-thought to carry through. It is likely the brother would not have had the "courage" in the Hannah Arendt "Banality of Evil" way to slay his sister, for whom in any rational world he would be delighted to see find a loving husband. The religion of Submission is run through with the need for mob thinking. This is why all the Israelis I know tell me that Palestinians are invariably reasonable as individuals but a hopeless rabble when they congregate.

We will soon (10-15 years?) start seeing strong-armed, fascist leaders promising to take care of the "Muslim Problem" popping up throughout Europe like mushrooms after the rain.

Pity that Denamrk doesn't have the death penalty.

Of course!! Its obvious!!

It's a criminal case because all the Buddhists, Christians, Hindus and Jews go round killing women members of their family who have "disgraced" them.

These "honour" killings are all too frequent these days in certain western communties where there are lots of "males" ... and "bride burning" for the dowry money is a long practised tradition in the UK ... well since the last 20-30 years at least.

wtf, what's up with you guys. THIS IS BLEEPING GREAT. No other country whatsoever has ever made a sentencing equal to this and all you do is bitch about it. This will set a precedent which other countries will follow. Also, the minimum sentence will be 5 years and they can be given life. When any comes out they will be expelled, this has happend before on much minor cases.

Denmark is a country which sets new standards against islam, standards that not even USA or any other country have followed. So let's hear it for Denmark.....

Every travel starts with the first step.....

"Will they be imprisoned, at the expense of the Danish state, and then ultimately released back into Danish society?" - Hugh

Uh-huh. They will. Nobody is likely to face deportation, and everybody will be on the loose after 12 years or so. That is "life" here, guys.

Wish this were the case, but the truth is more mundane, I'm afraid. I have a theory that our gung-ho/"xenophobic" reputation is due to the local dhimmis trying to stir up hatred against us from the outside, more than a reflection of reality. By spreading such lies abroad they can bolster their own case first by urinating on us, and then telling us that we smell.

Oh, and that filthy imam Abdul 'Gris' Wahid Pedersen has openly declared himself in favour of sharia "law," stoning and all. Know thy enemy.

Let's hope that the warden makes these thugs share a cellblock with the biggest, meanest motherf------rs in the prison. Then maybe the Danish people will be spared the expense of having to house and feed them for long. I'm sure that just like prisoners in other countries, prisoners in Denmark know how to "shank" such scum, especially if the guards are busy looking the other way.

I never thought I would ever feel this way, but I hope that their cell-mates are a bunch of racist skinheads.

I hate uffe too for what he did prior this, but you are really insance if you think they wont be deported. As I have said others have been deported from Denmark for less crimes so why you think these will be spared I have no idea, except if you're just trolling. Why you can't rejoice in this I have no idea, but this is almost as great as the great cartoons.

Name me one other country with the same stance again islam...

Trolling? Goodness, no. Please read my comments again. We may be in the front with regards to stance, but that is only relatively, given that nobody anywhere is doing absolutely anything at all. We can't (or won't) even deport imam Abu Laban (of Motoon hate trip fame); much less all those extremists (including his son) who take up a place that should be occupied by worthy refugees and who threaten our national security. When we start looking into, and expelling, all those clogging up our national arteries, then I will start rejoicing. Not before.

Why on Earth did you think I was trolling???

While I'm not sure what differences there may be between Danish law and, for example, German law -- if it's even remotely similar in terms of sentencing or leniency -- this will be no big deal.

Remember Monir Motassadeq? He's that scrofulous walking Arab cadaver who was convicted for abetting Muhammad Atta and setting up the 9/11 plot, and who is considered by some to be the possible 20th hijacker. He was convicted of accessory to murder for the nearly 3,000 deaths he helped orchestrate on 9/11 in a German Court in 2003. His sentence? 15 years. (That's ~ 1.8 days per murdered soul, my friends.)

As if that wasn't bad enough, he is out on appeal now because the US didn't allow his defense lawyers access to top secret al Qaida prisoners such as Khalid Sheik Muhammad and Ramzi Bin al Shib.

Another accomplice, Abdelghani Mzoudi, was altogether acquitted of charges for the same reason -- no conviction whatsoever. They both smiled and laughed through much of their trials.

This is the "European Justice" system on display, folks. It's no justice at all -- at least not for 'our side'.

It is a start, not a great start but a start we should continue to support Denmark. The are a brave people facing overwhelming odds, just like the rest of us, only they chose to act.

Though it was a different legal jurisdiction, and leaving aside the issue of whether it was correct or not to try him, Milosevic was dragged down into the bottomless sewer of nonsense and farce known as the "EUROPEAN WORLD COURT".

That theater of the absurd was just as ludicrous as the Saddam Hussein trial. These are the people who want to 'tame' the Americans? These are the systems that they hold forth as being superior to ours? These are the Paragons who hold themselves up as a Beacon unto the Peoples of the World? These are the swindlers suggesting that THEY should be the strategic counterweight to the American Hegemon?

Europe = dead man walking. Their systems make me sick.

By the way -- the EU has just cast its lot for terrorist suffrage:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/5119650.stm

"CIA flights 'must not reoccur' "

That would be the worst thing imaginable, wouldn't it be, Europe?

Imprison them then deport them all. Be done with these evil bastards! Back to Pakistan!

jsla:

"...These are the people who want to 'tame' the Americans? These are the systems that they hold forth as being superior to ours? These are the Paragons who hold themselves up as a Beacon unto the Peoples of the World? These are the swindlers suggesting that THEY should be the strategic counterweight to the American Hegemon?"

These are the deluded fossils of yesterdays PC cult. They are todays speed-bumps on the war against the jihad and the key-masters of the coming Eurabisia.

But I shall remind you that at least one half of America is with them, incl. your congress, the MSM, Hollywood and your "neo-con" government. Eurabisia and the USA has many things in common and I wish the US would lead the world in this WOT, but you need leaders to lead and not some kind of 'administration' (as in bankruptcy)

Imam Abdul Wahid Petersen? This idiot is a Danish convert to Islam with a last name like Petersen. Merely another psychologically marginal self hating westerner sticking it to his own people. I hope Mr. Petersen enjoys the coming nightmare his new found co-religionist are bringing. Enjoy hell Mr. Petersen, so amply demonstrated by this loathsome herd of vile swine on trial for this murder.May all the stupid Western converts to the death cult get all they so richly deserve. Ha Ha.

I agree that this is start, compared to say Britian and Germany, but in the end it just isn't good enough. This kind of crud is in need of permenant solutions if you get my drift. They'll do their time wallowing in jail,in a toxic mixture of Islam and self pity, and come out and kill somebody else for some other demented reason. They'll be out again to add another blood sacrifice to propiate their vile God.

"Forget shutting Gitmo. We should offer it to Denmark and other countries as an "outsourced" prison. "

Looks like a good idea to me.

I am slowly becoming of the opinion that death penalties for any cold blooded murder should be mandatory: this includes disHONOUR killings and an automatic KGB shot for any muslim male convicted of the planned murder of a female relative.

There is a lot more detail on this incident at Gates of Vienna.

According to Denmark's most popular news programme, there have been ten 'honour' killings registered in Denmark since 1986.

1986. A 15 year old boy and his mother were both shot by a Turkish father who had already promised his daughter (the boys girl friend) to another man back in Turkey.

1986. A 31 year old Turkish woman was stabbed to death by her father in law, apparently for having 'abducted' a 13 year old girl girl from Turkey.

1993. A 25 year old pakistani man was stabbed to death by his own pregnant wife, and her brother, apparently because he had decided to leave her. After the killing, the body was decapitated and mutilated and the remains dumped at different locations.

1995. A Turkish man shot and killed his 2 Turkish sisters in law after his wife left him.

1997. Before the eyes of her entire family a 20 year old woman was strangled and had her throat cut by her older brother for refusing to marry a cousin chosen by her family.

2001. A 22 year old Iranian man was beaten to death with a weight lifting bar by his Iranian girlfriends father after he'd refused to collaborate in forcing his girl friend to move back to Iran.

2001. Four men beat a 59 year old Turkish man to death when his son refused to marry his girl friend (one of the murderers was the girls brother).

2002. 14 year old Sonay Ahmad Mohammad was found floating, dead, in Præstø harbour with multiple head wounds. Her father was eventually found guilty of murdering her because she was 'living like a Dane'.

2005. 18 year old Ghazala Khan is gunned down in public by her brother after having being tricked by her aunt into a meeting she'd believed was a reconciliation. Nine members of the family have now been found guilty of murder. According to DR news, only one will receive a prison sentence under 5 years. The state prosectutor is asking for the maximum sentence of life for most of the rest. 'Life' in Denmark is typically 16 years.

The murder of Ghazala Khan:

Father: Life in Prison (it is more than 16 years)
Brother and two uncles: 16 year
Aunt and a cousin: 14 years
3 friends of the family: 10 and 8 years

These verdicts are very tough by european standards, but of course it's never enough.

Oh and the aunt and cousin will be expelled from Denmark when they get out of prison. The others are danish citizens and cannot be expelled, except if the constitution is changed...
