Al-Qaeda terrorists came within 45 days of attacking the New York subway system with a lethal gas similar to that used in Nazi death camps. They were stopped not by any intelligence breakthrough, but by an order from Osama bin Laden's deputy, Ayman Zawahiri. And the U.S. learned of the plot from a CIA mole inside al-Qaeda. These are some of the more startling revelations by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Ron Suskind, whose new book The One Percent Doctrine is excerpted in the forthcoming issue of TIME. It will appear on Time.com early Sunday morning.U.S. intelligence got its first inkling of the plot from the contents of a laptop computer belonging to a Bahraini jihadist captured in Saudi Arabia early in 2003. It contained plans for a gas-dispersal system dubbed "the mubtakkar" (Arabic for inventive). Fearing that al-Qaeda's engineers had achieved the holy grail of terror R&D — a device to effectively distribute hydrogen-cyanide gas, which is deadly when inhaled — the CIA immediately set about building a prototype based on the captured design, which comprised two separate chambers for sodium cyanide and a stable source of hydrogen, such as hydrochloric acid. A seal between the two could be broken by a remote trigger, producing the gas for dispersal. The prototype confirmed their worst fears: "In the world of terrorist weaponry," writes Suskind, "this was the equivalent of splitting the atom. Obtain a few widely available chemicals, and you could construct it with a trip to Home Depot – and then kill everyone in the store."

Maybe it will take a chemical or biological attack to wake people to the threat amongst us. The victims should be remembered as *our* martyrs for paying the ultimate price to shake the West awake...
Is there a connection here with the recent police raid on a house in Forrest Gate, E.London where they were reportedly looking for a dispersal device involving hydrogen cyanide? The raid was intelligence led but turned up a blank.

Why would another attack change things? Sarcastic to say, but I would bet if another attack occured, killing hundreds or thousands, a shaken Bush and Condi would plead for calms, remove their shoes and visit the Mosques begging for the Americans to understand the religion of peace. If the Muslim's take out a city with a nuke, Maybe 50-50 there might not be the obligatory visit to the Mosque by W, but I wouldn't rule it out. Also, sadly, but as predicted, the killing of the pride of Zarqa, Jordan in Iraq, hasn't exactly stiffled the religion of peace or its attacks on our soldiers. This is why the McCain versus Hillary is no choice at all. Forgetting personality or politics, both support staying in Iraq(perhaps McCain a bit more), both refuse to consider 'any' creative proposals like the forming of three countries--including a Kurdistan. I've actually heard McCain laughingly say this is a non-starter on tv a year ago. We need a third party. A party of Tancredo, Dobb's point of view. Stick up for America. Stick up for the West. Protect our borders. I don't agree with Lou Dobbs on everything, but I love it when he mocks the 'war on terror,' instead calling it the war on militant Islam. Hell, half the battle is diagnosis what the freaking problem is with proper language--not with code words.
The one thing that New York has going for it is the NYC Police ant-terrorist division.
Thank God, they are tough, very vigilante of New York's Muslims, have set up numerous stings and I hope can keep us safe.
We should do everything possible to support this effort for the dihimmi left as they are certain to try to keep them from their work.
Maybe, it's time we think about the negative consequences allowing large groups of Muslims in the USA.

After the likes of Condi 'Belevolence-in-the-heart-of-Islam' Rice, Karen 'Hijaab' Hughes, and Dubya 'Sell-out' Bush, the above will be a breath of fresh air and boy, right now, does the air stink!
How much more evidence do we need? Even if this gas attack had happened the dhimmi idiots running the country would still claim the "hi-jack" theory. "Register to vote. Harass your representatives" (nicely NOT) Our noble leaders are not listening to reason so to win this fight for freedom we must insist in no uncertain terms that we value our rights and those who deny them will not be tolerated as representatives...
