London, Jun. 06 – Weapons smuggled from Iran have been discovered in Iraq’s southern city of Basra, the prominent satellite network al-Jazeera reported on Monday.The network quoted an Iraqi cleric, Ayatollah Hassan al-Moyed, as saying that the arms cache was discovered in a shed in Basra, Iraq’s second largest city.
In a separate report on Monday, al-Jazeera quoted the spokesman of the Sunni group, the Association of Muslim Scholars, as saying that Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) had infiltrated much of Basra.
In March, United States Secretary of Defence Donald Rumsfeld accused Tehran of sending elite members of its Revolutionary Guards into Iraq to cause harm to the future of that country.
This is a job for the finest flower of Fallujah, Ramadi, Tikrit -- let them go forth and do battle in Basra, defending their oppressed Sunni brothers. Do nothing to discourage them. Do nothing to encourage them. Just let them be. Let Moqtada al-Sadr, and the Assocation of Muslim Scholars, and anyone else who wishes, do to each other what comes naturally to them, and what only a despot willing to deploy and use force like Saddam Hussein prevented in the past.

Some, who have lived abroad for decades, may acquire that spirit, that dim glimmer of understanding that things can and are done differently elsewhere, but as water seeks its level, a Muslim society, one suffused with the teachings, the attitudes, the atmospherics of Islam, will with great difficulty do without coercion.
It can be a military junta, the generals in Pakistan or Algeria. It can be a military leader with his Friends-and-Family plan -- Mubarak, who followed Sadat, who followed Nasser. It could be a monarch, the Sherifian kings of Morocco, the Hashemites of newly-minted Jordan (who, when they need to, do what they have to do -- see the memoire of Oufkir's daughter, or for that matter, read up on the kidnapping of Ben Barka from the Brasserie Lipp). It can be Saudi Arabia, where tens of thousands of princes, princelings, and princelettes of the Al-Saud, who divvy up much of the country's loot and serve as the loyalists, along with the courtiers who make money the old-fashioned MIddle Eastern way, by being middlemen in arms deals (Khashoggi, etc.) protect the regime, which also has cut a deal wtih the mutawwa and the exceptionally troglodytic clerics, who are free to enforce Muslim virtue and forbid Muslim vice as long as the Al-Saud can continue to make out like gangbusters, and skim from the top, and then dip that ladle in even deeper.
Get out. And let them compromise or not. Let them decide. Let "the Iraqis" decide. And let Shi'a everywhere help the Shi'a, and Sunnis help the Sunnis.

Know Islam....It is our best weapon.......This great war is called al-Malhamah al-Kubrah or Armageddon. It will end up with a great victory to Muslims against Romans after six years. Muslims will take over their capital Rome (this can be any city). In the seventh year, the Anticrist will apear and a greater war will start between Jews and Muslims for 40 days (longer that usual days) and will end when Jesus (pbuh) will come and Muslims will kill all Jews. All people will convert into Islam. Peace will pervade the whole world.
As Muslims, we should remember that the prophecy about Mahdi is one that will come to pass. This prophecy, however, does not absolve the Muslim Ummah from its duty to strive in the cause of Allah, oppose injustice, and seek peace and betterment of human condition. Centuries have passes from the time of the holy Prophet and there is a good possibility that many more will expire before the advent of the Mahdi. Muslims who are negligent in their duty hoping for a savior are committing a grave mistake and are not following the divine decrees ordained in Quran or taught by the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

I'm Shocked...shocked! What a waste of manpower, treasure, life and limb, to spread Islamic Gnosticism and to further deprive minorites and women of basic rights and freedoms. What a tragedy; most had more under tyrant-Saddam than they will have under Shar'ia.

Hugh is a extremly wise man. Best thing we could do is drop a few hundred million dollars in arms off to the Kurds, declare victory and go home. Then commence day and night bombing of all Irans Nuclear facilites until they are utterly destroyed.

Also, Islam, in it's great wisdom, is doing everything in it's power to inform the world of it's fate. And many nations are taking steps to remove oil as the primary fuel. So, once the funds from oil go away, so will Islams power to shock the world. And this will happen within this century.
Islam must win now if it can, for the future is not in it's favor.

Hugh, I agree with your analysis, your conclusions, and your frustrations. And, I have to add, I have tossed in the towel on Bush. So, we agree on that, too. The new Iraqi constitution (and the Afgan one, as well) is sharia through and through.
We have lost those countries, and the best we can hope for is a muslim killing field. We can, and must, bomb the training camps from time to time. But as for a democratic, pluralistic, egalitarian, secular, humanistic or multicultural society over there, it is hopeless. Let them wipe each other out.
Of course, when the killing gets too bad, watch for the streams of refugees headed to . . . and welcomed by . . . the United States, Britain, Canada. It is written. All in the name of the democratic, pluralistic, egalitarian, secular, humanistic and multicultural society that our home-grown idiots keep telling us we should have.

Never would I say that he was a follower of islam (storagemanager), just adding a point. Forgive me if it was out of line.
Also, Islam has nuclear power and arms now. I still say this will be over by the end of the century, regardless of how many bombs they aquire over the comming years.
We won't have to wait for even thirty years to see the major changes underway .

I am from India, Yesterday in the news, The mulim patriots of India wants a ban on th 100 yeard old National Song.
I am really very hurt at their demand, how can they be so rude...I know that muslims are the worst people to live along with but from what does they get this rude and unyeilding behaviour to ask for a ban on everythig and anythign that they dont like that to in a country where they are a minority.....
I guess when they breed well to even 30 to 40% I can see the temples being blown up frequently...
