Iraqi Jihad Update: "Group claims it kidnapped U.S. soldiers," from AP:
BAGHDAD, Iraq - An umbrella group linked to al-Qaida in Iraq claimed Monday that it had kidnapped two American soldiers reported missing south of Baghdad, where 8,000 Iraqi and U.S. troops were conducting a massive search. The group, called the Mujahedeen Shura Council, also claimed it had kidnapped four Russian diplomats and killed a fifth in Baghdad on June 3.
The message, which could not be authenticated, appeared on an Islamic Web site known for publishing messages from insurgent groups in Iraq. U.S. officials have said they were trying to confirm whether the two soldiers, who disappeared Friday evening following an insurgent attack that also killed a U.S. soldier, were kidnapped.
During the search for the missing Americans, U.S. spokesman Maj. Gen. William Caldwell also said the military killed three suspected insurgents and detained 34 others in fighting that left seven U.S. servicemen wounded.
The Web posting said: "Your brothers in the military wing of the Mujahedeen Shura Council kidnapped the two American soldiers near Youssifiya." It did not identify the soldiers.
The Defense Department identified the missing men as Pfc. Kristian Menchaca, 23, of Houston, and Pfc. Thomas L. Tucker, 25, of Madras, Ore.
It said Spc. David J. Babineau, 25, of Springfield, Mass., was killed. The three were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.
Gunmen kidnapped the four Russian diplomats near their embassy in Baghdad's Mansour district after firing on their car and killing one embassy employee.
"God has enabled the lions of monotheism to arrest four Russian diplomats in Iraq and kill the fifth," said a statement from the group on the same Web site....
Arch misnomer: the Lions of Monotheism - how about the Scum of the Koranic Weasels, or the Bastards of the Caliphate.
What an embarassment to have these lowlifes claim kinship with the Lord.

Of course it's nothing to do with Islam
The religion of peace !
I pray our troops can find them before the headhunters do their evil.
Perhaps we will allow the Russian intelligence services to conduct an independent, KGB-style "investigation," as they are rumored to have done decades ago, when some hapless Islamo-idiots kidnapped one of theirs in Beirut.
The story was, the KGB figured out who the kidnappers were, and started delivering chunks of the kidnappers' associates to one of their "safe houses" until the Soviets' comrades were released. I don't know if it really happened, but I love the story.
One could only wish we would go after our own with the same sense of purpose.
the only thing these sand monkeys understand is brute force. Start with the Sunni triangle. Fallujah would be a good spot. Drop one daisy cutter per day until they either turn over their captives unharmed, or we level the city. Then go on to the next terrorist stronghold. If we are not going to wage total war like we did in WWII, it will be useless.
I think the statement would better read-"God has not enabled the jackels of monomania to arrest four Russian diplomats in Iraq and kill the fifth," said a statement from the group on the same Web site....
I'm only concerned for the two GIs in this matter and pray these bums don't abuse them.
It's a good thing all those screaming of the abuse, torture and inhumane conditions at Gitmo are on the case on behalf of those brave soldiers. They are, aren't they?
What kind of intel do we have? We've been 'in country' for over three years; what kind of resources do we have? It's not safe for Iraqis to move around--so how can it be safe for the CIA. I suspect our intel consists of fancy sat images and Jordanian tidbits like those leading to The Pride of Zarqa's demise. It's like a black hole. Does this stem from a failed perspective of why were there? What are our goals? The semantics of 'warring against terror.' Were not the French assasinating SS Officers in Paris during WWII 'terrorists?' Is this our enemy? Terror?
Since were deaf and blind from the top down, how can we have good intel on Muslims? Since our stated goal is to tend to the messy afterbirth of a free, unfettered Iraq, integrating the Sunnis and Shias and Kurds together in democratic bliss--is our intel worth anything? US and Iraqi officials subsist in thie freaky 'green zone,' and one wonders when the other 'shoe' will drop down in a green zone terror op. It isn't too hard to fathom.
Yes, the war on terror. Islam means peace. War means peace. And all the rest. Meanwhile two kids waiting for the executioner sit in terror(if there still alive). I actually agree with the daisy cutter approach, and if that doesn't work, then get out of dodge.
Is this my political party talking about 'completing the mission,' cutting and running.' Perhaps we should have never left Vietnam? Perhaps we should never leave Iraq. We're told we'll be there until the Iraqis stand up. When peace is brought to the area. When security improves??? But how can this happen, when the problem is Islam??? Pure, unfiltered, back to basics Islam?
The solution here is to claim victory! The purple finger crowd has their precious 'government' and we can go home. This is madness. These police we are training don't give a damm of Iraq -- but only which sect they're from. Their allegiance is to their clan and sect first. A civil war misses the point. It is a religious war, and these are the worst kind to get in the middle of. Let our boys come home to a grateful nation, free us from an experiment gone amiss, and let Muslims be Muslims.
I'm only concerned for the two GIs in this matter and pray these bums don't abuse them.

Most likely they have been abused plenty already.
Once they are interviewed on Al-Jazeera and all the propaganda is used up, they will probably behead them in the name of Allah.
More bad news.

Even as a Brit I feel a particular kinship with your armed services operating in Iraq and Afghanistan. What seems to be an impossible task of instating democracy in places where the majority of the inhabitants are hostile or have no interest in moving their country into the 21st century. My thoughts are with those two soldiers and their families right now.
Is it not time that those in Washington or wherever that plan these operations consider a more radical approach. We are not fighting an ememy of sixty or so years ago that can be stopped with a bullet or the threat of, but one which rejoices in death including their own in a mistaken belief that they will be rewarded with an eternal paradise. Could not a few of your psychoanalysts, which are abundant in the US get together with some ex-Muslims and come up with a formula which would strike terror in the hearts of those jihadists. It's known that they have an irrational fear of dogs and pigs. Humiliating their so-called prophet, feeding their remains to animals, anything that prevents them from attaining those everlasting pleasures. I'm sure they could come up with better. Do not be timid in using these methods you are up against a real enemy and nothing more than real force can subdue this evil.
I hate to admit it but I hope they are dead, no one should fool himself or herself into thinking they would be treated well. Losing a son to war is horrible enough without later finding out they were tortured. I don’t hold much hope for them.
Tom Tancredo for President--those are my sentiments too--only guy making much sense right now.
Ronin, was thinking that to.VERY sad,but what they are doing/or did to them,is worse than i could imagine. My prayers are with them and their family.
I grew up in a military family and the older vets constantly told me stories about Americans who were found after they were tortured. They all warned me along this line “die if you must but don’t get captured” I look at it as good advice now and I’m sure the muslims can be every bit as cruel as some of the other monsters we have faced. I know some will point out the are worse but evil is evil and it doesn’t matter the flavor.
The region where this happened should be carpet bombed for a week or two, or perhaps three. The radius of destruction should be five miles at least. No, ten. OK -- twenty. And that should only be for starters.
"Every attempt to make war easy and safe will result in humiliation and disaster." General William T. Sherman
This is the problem with Bush and crew...they think they can make "war easy and safe". We wack some muslims who no doubt were involved in killing our people and where are they now?? In Jail!
The muslims capture ours and their heads role and the ones who do it are praised!
"I would make this war as severe as possible, and show no symptoms of tiring till the South begs for mercy." William T. Sherman
Bush does not understand this either. We must crush the sunnis..they must fear us. We should level their cities and kill all those who oppose us. Instead of having our troops guarding stupid check points while our leaders sit on their ass doing nothing. If this is WAR as Bush claims then let it be WAR.
"If I had my choice I would kill every reporter in the world, but I am sure we would be getting reports from Hell before breakfast." William T. Sherman
Bush should stop letting the media run all around the place. The Imbed processes is stupid and forget what the media says. They don't understand WAR either. What are they going to do "run negative stories"...who cares. Most Americans don't really care if we should waste a few cities....
"I make up my opinions from facts and reasoning, and not to suit any body but myself. If people don't like my opinions, it makes little difference as I don't solicit their opinions or votes." William T. Sherman
We need to dig up this guys body and clone him....
Have to agree with Boehmond_1069 and jsla-
Broadcast to the captors today that one insurgent stronghold will be utterly annihilated daily until these two soldiers are released.
The strategic incompetence of the military planners in allowing this to occur is maddening.
The tactical pussyfooting from the C-I-C is pathetic.
They say don't like us in Iraq?
Let them have a real reason. Or four.
Haditha. Ramadi. Fallujah. Tikrit.
And sow salt in the ruins.
Then, if the soldiers are not released alive-
-four more strongholds levelled -as a warning against any further kidnappings.
If they don't value life, let them know that we do.
Our own, especially.
My heart goes out for these captured soldiers and the terror they are going thru at this very moment. I'm praying for them several times per day and ask that you all do as well. It's time to pull out of Iraq and let the Shias and Sunnis kill each other off. It's no longer our fight. Maybe when the beheading videos of these poor soldiers surfaces, our public will be outraged enough to force a pull out.
Another odd thing is that Zarqawi lived for 52 minutes after having 2 500 lb. bombs dropped on him. Only a demon could live for that long after having 1000 lbs. dropped on him. This is Islam for you, the religion of Satan.
I support Tom Tancredo for President in 2008. He is the man! Don't forget to pray for the captured soldiers. They need our prayers. It will be a miracle if they're found alive and God can work miracles thru prayer.
