Official: Gitmo Prisoners Waging 'Jihad'

Well, of course they are. What did you expect them to do? From AP, with thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist:

Guantanamo Bay detainees are staging suicide attempts and hunger strikes to undermine American policy in the war on terror, a senior U.S. military official said, calling the acts a "jihad" against the United States.

"The detainees view this as a struggle. They view this as a jihad ... They're trying to figure out ways that they can continue the fight," Navy Rear Adm. Harry Harris, the commander of the U.S. prison on Cuba's southeastern tip. "They do that with hunger strikes, overdosing on medicines. And now they've succeeded in killing themselves."

Three detainees - two Saudis and a Yemeni - committed suicide in their cells on June 10. The U.S. military said the men hanged themselves by fashioning nooses from bed sheets. Harris said the deaths and other suicide attempts were coordinated acts of resistance - not acts of desperation prompted by their indefinite detention.

"I think it is less about the length of their detention ... It's less about that and it's more that they continue to fight their fight," Harris told reporters, adding that defiance in the prison was widespread. "I think the vast majority of detainees are resisting us."

As we've seen in the case in canada with the 17 jihadists arrested on terrorism related charges, one Lawyer used the media to tell the World that canada was torturing his client who is presumed innocent until the trial prove guilt.

Plus, Mr.Kutty that has been such a loud mouth about bogus charges and how his client is innocent has announced he's stepping down a his defense Attorney.
Mr.Kutty has a colourful past with links to CAIR and Mosques that are now subject to questions about Radical Imams from the Middle
east spewing hatred towards jews and Christians.
I'm betting Kutty knows the outcome and the guilt of his jihadist client, and he also wants to lay low as his name starts popping up in the media from past opinions that promoted Jihad in canada and convinced youth that Islam is at war with canada.
These poor fools , the same free-speech laws they used to spew their tripe will be the same freedom of the press to re-print those tirades and anti-west hatred that will convict some of them in a Court of law.
I now see that 4 defence lawyers now want a open court system, at first they demanded a banning of information to assure a fair trial. Something must have been revealed that makes it clear the 17 Muslims are guilty and these weasel lawyers
are hoping for a mistrial or media errors to question the Jurers judgement.

-Templar13,

I raise my beer and shout a mighty "allahu akbar" to that one!

Templer13-

Don't forget little, 3-legged stools.

So. They go on hunger strikes, overdose on meds, or hang themselves. Good riddance. Why the hand wringing, by various US officials?

Wow! And all this time we've been fighting the war with bullets! Imagine, a big open area where they could get guns and stuff and go Jihad themselves on thier own and... oh, wait, that's Baghdad! If we could only charge a fee, we would recoop some of the losses... maybe sell photos of the 72 virgins, as an incentive...

So they are struggling because they cannot carry out their struggle on a wider canvas to kill infidels. And in their former struggle they are succeeding. What is the problem ? :)

Exactly. Jihadists/Terrorists/Enemy Combatants/al Qaeda/Taliban combatants committing suicide. And that's a bad thing?

This is one time the ICRC has done something right - ask that they be given due privacy. Each of them should be restored their bedsheets, and some strong hooks should be attached to their ceilings. Or maybe, provide each one of them suicide bomb belts, and let them do what they might have done on the battlefield.

Why bother with sheets? Just leave some string lying around plus an arabic instruction manual for the more stupid. They are doing the world a favour. Long may it continue!!!

Zathras

The same sheets that they use to hang themselves can then be used to cover their bodies after they are taken down. Minimal handling of corpses of the believers.

Seriously, why is the Pentagon so much after whatever intelligence they have to offer? Put that onus on the regimes in Pakistan, UAE, KSA, Qatar, et al. They aren't going to learn much about their current whereasbouts from prisoners who were taken almost 5 years ago, even if they were co-operating.

Jihad, striving for Allah, allows the jihadists to whatever is necessary to push forward the goals of Islam. They have learned which buttons to push to manipulate the West ... they have become "victims".

Think about the many categories of individuals that were powerless until they suddenly found themselves a member of a protected group or class or that somehow had been elevated to martyrdom. As members of this group or class they are manipulating the rest of us...Muslims aren't the only martyrs in the neighborhood today.

Ain't it sad?

While the enemy is engaged in Jihad against us, we are practicing "Gee Duh" against ourselves.

Infidel Pride, I suspect that the Pentagon has long ago obtained all the intelligence information these animals have to offer. It's just that most/all of them are far too dangerous ever to be released.

americaningermany....the pacific war took the west by surprise with regards to its brutality and it took a good year before ALL western armies could cope with what is essentially the SAME sort of tactics(minimum appreciation of human life and the Geneva convention).

Although this war is not a normal war just yet, when it DOES become such you can expect the kid gloves to be lost very quickly and summary execution to onnregualr tap as it was in the pacific. The British in Burma even turned a blinfd eye to Gurhka bad habits(beheading captives..one hit that is) after the Gurkhas found some of their men beheaded.

I would feel very sorry for ANY al quaeda captive if the Gurkhas caught him as all Nepal knows what happened to their 12 captives and those nepalese in Iraq are often exGurkhas.

Myself, I would kick the news cameraman in the family jewels then shoot all prisoners unless info specifically required. I have NO compassion for Allah's slaves nor respect for any islamic untermenschen.

I am not blaming anyone here for a linguistic trait. The British wrote them as "Gurkha" and the world still writes and pronounces it such. The way the word is spoken in Hindi, is , Gorakha. The vowel "o" is spoken fully and the first "a" in the word is spoken lightly with the last "a" spoken as in "calm".

The Gorakhas are simple people who did not have air conditioned places (offices, jets) for long debates about "he is a human being, he breeds like us, hey he kisses his son, never mind his mother uses a knife to bleed him in the name of allah, he cries when he is hit, we cry when we are hit, so we shall keep him captive, oh! he won't eat vegetables ? What does he want ? Meat ? Give it to him. What ! he won't eat it ? Why ? Oh ! he eats meat exclusively of animals whose heads have been sawn off. So saw off the heads of animals. And make sure it is fresh by the time he gets it. So, we were talking........".

I AGREE, the PC and MSM crowd who harp on releasing these animals would like you to believe we are holding simple farmers and sheep herders who just were in the wrong place at the wrong time. In fact, most were toting AK47s and RPGS, and were using these weapons to kill Americans, coalition forces and even their own countrymen. Many of these prisoners were in fact, leaders who knew a great deal on the membership and operations of Al-Qaeda.
IT seems the likes of Ted Kennedy, Charles Rangel, Cynthia Mckinney, Barbara Pelosi, MS Boxer, Joseph Biden, John Kerry, John Dean would like to release these prisoners and apologize to them. Appeasing Islamic terrorists is a sure way to insure more death. These are the politicians who prefer the cut and run tatic, which is a defeatist and potentially fatal course of action to the correct action of destroy the ideology and perpertrators of the dealth cult some call the Peaceful Religion of Islam. These people call Iraq a quagmire and a mistake, yet seldom mention the Islamic violence in at least 20 (and more)countries in the world today. They seem to be oblivious to the very real danger of Islamic violence and goals in all of Europe. They fail to recognize the fact that Islamic terrorists have been attacking Americans and American interests since at least 1811; in the past 40 years this violence has been increasing in intensity and has sprouted on the very soil on which these people live and have families. If they fail to act to destroy to Islamic terrorists, then they have sentenced their families and countrymen to certain death.
To those who would rather cut and run from the war on terror or move to appease the Islamic terrorists---YOU ARE WRONG.
Taking the terrorists of the streets and placing them in confinement in GITMO is but a small victory (have you seen how Islam treats its captives??). Would you choose being their prisoner or would you choose being a captive held by the Americans? The Americans have been playing the war on terror rather passively, but as the Religion of Peace continues to accelerate the level of violence and to escalate number of attacks the patience of the USA and the rest of the world will diminish and the Peaceful Religion of Islam will be surprised at the level of death that will be inflicted upon them. They are doomed.

Now if we can just get this trend to catch on in Gaza, in Somalia, Kosovo and Pakistan and Canada, - what a wonderful world this could be !

We find a Jihadi and say: Do your duty, figure out a way to kill yourself, and we will pretend to value your uselessly directed lives and pretend to try and stop you from committing this merciful act.

Imagine the ambulances going around to collect the bodies at Clichy Sous Bois. Doubtless a muslim cartoon, insensitive, unfeeling, would launch a thousand Jihadi deaths.

And we can collectively sigh and say: another poor Jihadi done gone. If only we could stop these poor bastards from killing themselves, tsk, tsk. He seemed like such a nice boy. That trendy gal in the hijab next door actually liked him.

If only Atta and the boys had conducted their jihad by going on a hunger strike and starving themselves on September 11...

"No! NO crackers! NO pretzels! Allahuakbar!!"

Jan III Sobieski
The bums in Gitmo are conducting their jihad PRECISELY because they were not allowed to make out their jihad like atta.

I am concerned. What can us ordinary American citizens do to alleviate Gitmo's apparent shortage of rope?

chsw

americaningermany asks: "Where are the enraged human rights activists complaining about how hostages taken in Iraq are tortured and beheaded???
You don't hear a peep out of them about that."

The U.S. is held to a different standard for three reasons:

First, much of the world is envious of America's position as the world's only superpower and are obsessed with finding political ammunition they can use against America. That was true even during the Clinton Administration, when Europeans started sucking up to the Arab world as a counterweight to what Jacques Chirac called the "American hyperpower." So anything wrong with America, whether it's cultural (rap music) or economic (big gas-guzzling SUVs) or anything else gets giggles and instant nods and knowing looks from those "sophisticated" Europeans that those uppity uncouth Americans are going to get their comeuppance someday.

Second, the U.S. makes itself more vulnerable to the charge of hypocrisy when it is such a vocal proponent of freedom and human rights. The Islamists don't lecture the world about freedom and democracy the way we do. So when we set such high moral standards, we are scored every time we ourselves fail to meet those standards.

Third, many of these "human rights" activists are staunch leftists (via Google, you can find out how many self-described Marxists and socialists are activists at Amnesty International). And to them, the U.S. is morally suspect from the get-go, because it has committed the most grievous sin of all: we're a capitalist country that has been the world's most effective proponent of capitalism and opponent of socialism.

Steven -- I am in agreement with your statements above; what I would like to add to the debate is this: as "americaningermany" points out, far too often we hear the noisy voices of the left condeming this or that action of the US. Is it at all possible to actually have some form of activism based on the higher moral standards you correctly points out, OR it will be perceived as nationalism (see some more recent postings at JW) and summarily dismissed?

To illustrate the point, some headlines form Canadian press:
Canadians dying over U.S. drug policy in Afghanistan: report

U.S. Afghan policy costing Cdn. lives: think-tank

The "think tank" is the Senlis Council

And this is why America is NOT getting rid of Gitmo or releasing most of these prisoners anytime soon.

Henry, you scare me.

I watched with curiousity how Bill O'Reilly's series on Gitmo would be handled. To my surprise, he let the US servicemen really talk rather than "bloviating" as he usually does. That man loves to hear himself talk.

I don't remember the names of the men he interviewed, but they definitely don't think the prisoners should be released whether they can get anymore info out of them or not. One of the interrogators said that after a few years of talking, the prisoners can't remember all their lies they've told, but since it all has been written down/recorded, the interrogators can trip them up on it. Our guys said some of them are the worst of the worst. They talked about the hatred in the prisoners' eyes towards them and said some had told them they'd try to kill their families if they ever got out in keeping with this nice quote,"Sheikh Al-Islam ibn Taymiyya encouraged [the Muslims] to hate the unbelievers, saying: 'When you spend time in the camp of the unbelievers - for purposes of medical [treatment], study or trade - harbor hostility towards them in your heart.'..."

Our guys down there definitely have a grasp on the insanity of islam. I say, let'em hang themselves.

As long as they are locked up, they can not harm innocents on the outside.

Of the four hundred plus insurgents just released in iraq by the US forces: how soon and how many will be fighting the iraqi and US forces.

How many more American soldiers will be killed by these released insurgents??

Prisoners should only be released once the fighting stopped.

Texican-

They'll be 1350 years old by then!

I'll pay for their walkers if they make it!

I'm still waiting for the Leftists to question Cuba and Fidel since they have allowed the US to lease the land for almost 100 years and Gitmo
prison is actually a Fidel Castro sanctioned
military base.

The Geneva Convention doesn't apply their
because Cuba didn't arrest them and the terrorists
failed to wear a Uniform as part of a negotiating Army for POW's.

ala-sux, unfortunately, the US Supreme Court today has over-ruled Bush on that -- demonstrating that the Leftist PC rot extends even into the right-wing-dominated Court.
