Echoing what I wrote here. From AFP:
The Pentagon expressed caution June 8 over the impact of the killing of al-Qaida’s chief in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, on the violence in Iraq.”We always tend to treat these things very conservatively here in this department on the impact of particular individuals when we didn’t have them and now when we do have them,” said Department of Defense spokesman Bryan Whitman.
Zarqawi was the “self-proclaimed leader of Al-Qaida in Iraq,” Whitman said. “He is one individual and we don’t expect that the violence in Iraq is going to end...."
Nail on the head.
This might be a symbolic victory for us, but the totalitarian ideology of hate continues. I don't see any lessening of the Jihadists will to fight any time soon.
I am all for these strikes at the top of the various Jihadist organizations, but we certainly need to be focusing on the man on the street and the theological correctness our Western nations are drowning in.
Absolutely ... this is but one victory in the war on the ideology of death to the infidels.
The war rages on ... as it has for over 1400 years per the Quran and Bigmo.
OK. Obvious.
But it's a good excuse for a shot of anything alchoholic in minor celebration.
Here's mud in their eye!
I think the majority of posters on Jihad Watch understand that while this is an important victory, it doesn't come close to ending the Jihad in Irag. There is no shortage of Jihadis ready and willing to follow in his footsteps.
Still, a little celebration is in order. He was an important and very skilled terrorist, and the loss of someone of his stature and ability is a blow to the Jihadists. We should walk with a nice spring in our step today, but keep in mind there is much more to do and Islam's war of conquest will continue.
Iran began a fresh phase of uranium enrichment this week just as world powers presented it with incentives to halt nuclear fuel work, according to a UN nuclear watchdog agency report obtained by Reuters on Thursday.
The report, emailed to the 35 states on the International Atomic Energy Agency's governing board ahead of a meeting starting on Monday, also said Iran was pressing ahead with installing more cascades of centrifuge enrichment machines. Authored by IAEA chief Mohammed ElBaradei, the report said Iran resumed feeding "UF6" Uranium gas into its pilot 164-centrifuge cascade in Natanz on Tuesday after a pause of several weeks to do test runs of the machines without UF6. Rejoice in no one's death.
May all of his seven virgins have the faces of Madame Albright on a very bad hair day -- without make-up!

But Abram said to the king of Sodom, "I have raised my hand to the LORD, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth, and have taken an oath 23 that I will accept nothing belonging to you, not even a thread or the thong of a sandal, so that you will never be able to say, 'I made Abram rich.' 24 I will accept nothing but what my men have eaten and the share that belongs to the men who went with me—to Aner, Eshcol and Mamre. Let them have their share GEN 14;22-24...... The Jews struck down all their enemies with the sword, killing and destroying them, and they did what they pleased to those who hated them. 6 In the citadel of Susa, the Jews killed and destroyed five hundred men. 7 They also killed Parshandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha, 8 Poratha, Adalia, Aridatha, 9 Parmashta, Arisai, Aridai and Vaizatha, 10 the ten sons of Haman son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews. But they did not lay their hands on the plunder. Esther 9:5-10.....16 Meanwhile, the remainder of the Jews who were in the king's provinces also assembled to protect themselves and get relief from their enemies. They killed seventy-five thousand of them but did not lay their hands on the plunder.Esther 9:16
Zarqawi's death is indeed welcome. BUT no one should be under the illusion that his passing means anything in the world of Jihad and Islam, for at this point, both are an international movement of self-starting killers that need only to consult the Koran for orders.
In the world of the Ummah, there is nothing more important than Islam; there is no human more important than Mohammed and no being more important than Allah. Everyone else is superfluous and expendable.
The killing will continue until all the rest are Muslims of the same brand...or....until we stop them. It won't be pretty.
I just posted this on the Zaquari thread but its more fitting here. Apologies to anyone who read it twice.
And of course we'll still see the Sunni/ Shia warfare Al Quaeda or no Al Quaeda.
Regarding the 'Many Headed Hydra" school of thought. ( that when you cut off one of the many headed snake's heads another grows to replace it) I once read an article on the Israeli elimination of Hamas' leading terrorists. The article put forward the stance that such assassinationd DO have a noticable effect on the enemy's ability to function well. If you get rid of its most "talented" leaders , then the 2nd raters and eventually the 3rd raters ans 4th are put in charge. Eventually the guy whose previous position was to tend the camels is in charge of operations. thus making the organization less effective. Apparrently this was noticable within Hamas.
Maybe Zach's 2IC will be a less efficient killing machine.
"Guys ...whaddawe do next ?"
"geez Habib , I dunno.. "

Zarqawi's death is a great blow to the Jihad, he deserved to die, and showing his brused head was a humiliating slap to the Ummah, but some of the news points to outcomes that may not favor the West in the long term.
Al-zawahiri had been very critical of Zarqawi's attack of other muslims and his single minded pursuit of a war of Sunni domination over Shias. Zarqawi was at odds with some in Al-qaeda who wanted to reach a tactical alliance between Iran (Shias) and Bin Laden's (Sunnis).
Al-qaeda and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad are now in competition as to who will lead the Jihad against the West.
There is also a certain cooperation between Al-qaeda and Iran.
It appears that Zarqawi was killed with the help of informants, maybe some help possibly from anti-Zarqawi forces within Al-qaeda.
A deal was reached to form the Iraqi government (a Sunni Arab to head the Defense Ministry) , was Zarqawi's death the demand that Shias expected for them to accept this Sunnis to take an important position in the government?
Does his death serve both Iranian and Al-qaeda interests
Interesting questions.
Zarqawi's death is fantastic and a great victory but, it's the Da'wa that is the greatest long term danger.
Sunni's and Shias united against the West is not good.
These are just my thoughts I welcome feed back on the above points.
