We really need to institute a "no visas" policy on Saudi nationals planning to come to study aviation--and we should not lift it until we seem some substantive reforms in Sa'udi Arabia. And we ought to say that up front and plainly to the descendents of Ibn Sa'ud in open fora.

My question is....before going over the instrument checks, do they have to recite the koran? And how much? And I'll bet the flights are always late! Do the passengers get scared when everyone starts screaming allahu akbar? Does the pilot come on the intercom and say" allahu akbar, another safe landing from muslim airways"?

I know why the Saudis want to study aviation courses in the United States. Just why is the United States permitting this to happen? Inquiring minds want to know. Especially before election time.

Wasn't there some agreement last year between the US and KSA to allow 20,000 Saudi students to study here in the next five years? This must be the first "wave" of those "attackers"...that is, the first "wave" of students. Oh yes, and while some are studying aviation, why doesn't the State Dept. encourage eager young Saudis to enroll in Homeland Security courses? I am sure that there is much the Saudi students could share once they returned home.

Today Al-Azhar University offered 650 scholarships to malaysian malay/muslim students for Islamic courses.

the largest number offered so far to outsiders.

Islamic studies itself is a money making business. Hence I woudnt be supprised if Memorizing koran would be a criteria.

My husband had a job in which he evaluated the transcripts of international students. He said that it was not unusual for Saudi students to have 50-60% of their course work in the area of Koran/Islamic studies. Given that fact, it would seem that it might take years for Saudi students to catch up on basic science and math skills in order for them to go into the aviation field. However, since money is object with that group, the scholarships may extend over years and years.

We do not assume all Muslims are suicide-bombers.
We believe that nearly all suicide-bombers are Muslims.

And if you took a course on mathematical logic in school, you would understand the difference in those two statements.

In fact, the only non-Muslim suicide-bombers I can think off offhand are the Tamil Tigers and the World War II Japanese kamikazes.

The scholarships are being offered by the Saudi Government, which foots the bill for students at Saudi public universities as well. It is part of a much larger program by the government to send 25,000 Saudi students abroad for higher education in the next five years.
