Somali Jihad Update from CNN: "Bin Laden message: Somalia is front in war on U.S."
MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) -- The hard-line Muslim leaders who control much of southern Somalia claimed nationwide authority, while the latest message attributed to al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden describes the Horn of Africa nation as a battleground in his global war on the U.S.
Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, leader of the militia's executive council, made the claim of authority throughout the country Thursday, striking yet another blow to Somalia's largely powerless but internationally recognized interim government.
In a weekend restructuring, the relatively moderate Ahmed was replaced as the Islamic group's overall leader by Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys, who is on the U.S. terrorist watch list as a suspected collaborator with al Qaeda.
"We hope this council will be more effective than the one before," said Ahmed, who had been reaching out the interim government and the West before he was named to the executive council on Saturday night.
U.S. fears al Qaeda hotbed
The developments in Somalia are of particular interest to the United States, which has long-standing fears the Horn of Africa nation will become a haven for bin Laden's terrorist organization, much like Afghanistan did in the late 1990s.
On Thursday, U.S. lawmakers told a House of Representatives panel in Washington that the United States has failed to develop a coherent policy to stop that from happening.
In an audio message purportedly put out by bin Laden -- released on an Islamic Web forum where militants often post messages and bearing the logo of al Qaeda's production branch -- the speaker vows to continue to fight the U.S. and its "allies everywhere, in Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia and Sudan ...."
Be careful, GeeHahd. One of the problems in this "War on Terror" is that there aren't very many obvious targets. Once a nation state has embraced a national policy of Jihad, it will quickly appear on the big map in the war room.
It is ironic that this recent development comes at a very bad time, right after the SCOTUS ruled on the Gitmo teror prisioners case yesterday. That ruling was a bad blow against the GWOT.

From Afghanistan to Somalia in an historical blink-of-an-eye. And why? Because we waste YEARS in places that should take months. If we used our military powers without kid-glove, our troops would be out of Iraq and Afghanistan by now and freed up to do the real business-at-hand. We waste forming democractic governments based on foreign precepts, Sharia Law and the Qur'an like blind fools. As if just having a democracy spells real freedom. What a tired joke...

Somalia can be the permanent movie set for all the ancient Romaan or Greek movies or the end of the world type Road Warrior flicks. I heard they want to do a remake of the Flintsones on location in Mog, but they said the capital was too primitive by Bedrock's standards..
There is no real problem here. Just give all the Somalis instant asylum in the West. Many of them are already here and are making the expected contributions to their new homes. Furthermore, they will contribute to the acceptance of their Muslim brothers in the West because they make the Palestinians look civilized.

The ex-Mayor of Toronto (1-term wonder) has made it official that it's a "Phobia" to feel threatened by Terror cells in Canada,or even the recent arrests of the Brampton-17 Jihadists that planned to slaughter thousands of civilian Canadians because of Irqa,Palestine,Afghanistan, and the filthy pig Jews and gays in the west that offend Allah.

Smashed mosque windows and workers losing their jobs because of their ethnic background, are among signs that anti-Arab sentiment is on the rise in Ontario, the Ontario Human Rights Commission said yesterday.
Chief commissioner Barbara Hall expressed dismay at an increase in "Islamophobia" in Ontario, as she released the commission's annual report at a news conference at the Ontario legislature.
"We continue to hear ... from Arab and Muslim communities on increasing incidents of discrimination," Hall said.
Chief among her concerns was an attack on a Toronto mosque just two days after police arrested 17 people earlier this month, who were allegedly planning to stage terrorist attacks in southern Ontario.
Hall also cited a group of cases in which complainants with dual citizenship from countries other than the United States, claimed they were discriminated against by employees at a company that makes defence equipment for several countries, including the U.S. The employees were reassigned and even fired in some cases, possibly because they were seen as a potential threat to the company's security, Hall suggested.
"The allegations remind us that society must balance security measures in a manner that does not compromise human rights protections."
The agency did not provide precise statistics, but Hall said there was "an enormous increase" in Ontario - even if people who are affected are at times hesitant to speak out publicly.
Incidents of "Islamophobia" were among the 2,399 new complaints filed with the Ontario Human Rights Commission during the past year, the report found.

BTW, the reason the HRC is being dismantled by Bill 107 is from all the wasted time on bogus cases, the 2 main whiners are self-perceived Disabled people wanting special status at work or in public, and the other is Muslims wanting the same.
The last report had 60% of the files covering "Isamophobia" which appears to out number the handicapped and elderly population even though there are only about 500,000 Muslims in canada.
Another fact is that only about 8% of the claims make it to a Court settlement with Companies or Governemnts being forced to make changes to accomadate a disability.
So basically out of 100 people complaining, 60% are muslims that make up only 1% of the population nationa wide, and 92% of the gripes never make it past the hurdle to go to a Courtroom for a Judicial ruling.
The 1964 HRC concept was set up to fund the complaints by low income people with no power to access those Rights, but groups like CAIR-Canada exploited this free upfront Public body to the point where the Lawyers win every time and the real victims have to stand in line with the 92%
that milk the system for a free-ride as a quasi-victim hoping to intimidate a Company or person into a out-of-court settlement.
Bill 107 will switch the onus back to the lawyer to assure as case if valid by the client paying upfront and then geting the pot-O-Gold after a Court ruling, lets see how quick lawyers will do the pro-bono cases with a little percentage of the cash-4-life payout if they win.

First, there was "driving while black," the expression that summarized racial profiling employed by some American police officers. Then came "flying while Arab" to denote the suspicion that followed 9/11.
Now, since the arrest of 17 alleged terrorists in Toronto, we have "Canadian while Muslim."
Not a month has passed since the arrest of the Toronto 17 and reaction has ranged from the sublime (rescind multiculturalism) to the ridiculous (ban burkas). Racist language and thinly veiled Islamophobia have laced many media commentaries. One columnist said the young men arrested were "bearded in the Taliban fashion," though the facial hair, based on courtroom drawings, looked alarmingly similar to beards sported during the recent NHL playoffs. Suspects were often described as "brown skinned," and there frequently followed the mantras of "homegrown threat" and "the enemy within."
Interesting how Michael Sandham, the former police officer/soldier turned Bandido member, has yet to be described as "white skinned," a "homegrown threat" (though he's a Canadian charged with the murder of eight men), or as an "enemy within" (he was a Bandido-friendly police officer). The double standards abound. Welcome to the world of "Canadian while Muslim."
Yet, we cannot give in to the cynicism. Today, "Canadian while Muslim" implies an onus on Muslims to work twice as hard -- to fight extremism on the one hand and Islamophobia on the other. It is heartening to see individuals and groups stepping forward to take on this social responsibility, each in their own way. Muslims, after all, are not a monolith.

that's one interpretation . . .another interpretation would be . . . it's a
'target rich environment'.
MEMRI provides countless examples of how these clans feed off each other . . .particularly in large gender segregated gatherings, pounding their chests in defiance of the west.
It would be so cost effective to simply pay attention and be prepared with PMC taking aim/unloading as each successive opportunity presents itself.
It would simply complete the goals of opposing wills. A jihadist loves death more than life . . .the west (via PMC) can give it to them. Everyone's satisfied.
It might be a good idea for the USA to recognize the breakaway northern region of Somaliland (the formerly British part), and send a message to other potential failed states that the USA is no longer going to commit itself to keeping history from happening--especially to those determined to have it happen to them.
Further, I suspect that even if Somalia becomes a Qaida hotbed, it will be too busy with its own internal feuds to be much of a threat to anybody.

SG: I think the Transitional Government, which the UN has recognized, is in discussion with the leaders of the Islamic Court. They know the international scene reasonably well – I mean the Transitional Government - they know what is required of them. I don't know what will be the outcome of their discussion and what the leadership structure for the immediate future will look like once they have concluded their discussions. And so I would want us to keep the door open to see what the Somalis agree, and how they organize themselves to move forward, and then the international community will have to determine how we engage them. But I don't think it is necessarily clear who is going to lead Somalia from next month or so. Discussions are still going on.
It looks like the UN did, indeed, know and get what they wanted with respect to the transitional government. Now the known Al-Q terrorist, Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys, is and will be running the country.
Maybe they'll seek a more well known terrorist for the permanent government, not that it any longer matters.
